Reviews for Matsumoto Hotel Kagetsu

Review 1:Very well located close to things we wanted to see in Matsumoto. Courteous and very obliging staff. (We arrived at midnight and had no problems checking in,)

Review 2:Nothing really

Review 3:We were travelling with our 21 year old son and the Japanese room we had was big and very comfortable for the 3 of us. The Japanese breakfast was very good value for money.

Review 4:hard pillows and unable to control central heating, though we could open the window to cool a bit.

Review 5:Easy check in room well sized for Japan great bath in the room. Position very convenient for walking around central Matsumoso station and the Castle

Review 6:- The room could be a bit more spacious but it was a bit bigger than the average Japanese hotel room.

Review 7:- Location - very very close to Matsumoto castle. - Staff friendliness - The hotel and room were very clean. - Breakfast was complete and it allows the guest to choose between japanese and western.

Review 8:Room furnishings were a bit dated and not as sparklingly clean as other places we stayed. However it has lots of character, helpful staff and a good location

Review 9:Staff were very helpful. Good location close to castle and traditional streets. Onsen was enjoyable.

Review 10:-My mattress was too soft and I could feel a spring

Review 11:-Staff was extremely gracious and went out of their way to help us -Large rooms and bathrooms -Onsen was lovely -Great western style breakfast with eggs, yogurt, and breads -Great location to downtown Matsumoto and Matsumoto castle

Review 12:Very close to the castle. Tight space for twin beds but adequate for a short stay. Washer, trousers press, induction stove are all in the compact room.

Review 13:The walls and roof/floor are a bit on the thin side and the room was a little noisy, but overall, great hotel, wonderful staff, 2 minute walk to Matsumoto Castle.

Review 14:customer service was fantastic!

Review 15:The rooms are specious but deco is a bit old n needs upgrading.

Review 16:Great location n not too far from Matsumoto Station n Matsumoto Castle. Hotel is nearby traditional shopping streets with good eatery restaurants n shops. The onsen is not too big but good enough as great. The front desk manager, who is a senior gentleman was very helpful to to guide us from front entrance to carpark n back to the hotel reception (in the rain) n patiently briefed us of the room switches n onsen facility. Very importantly the breakfast was very delicious!!

Review 17:Our room was a little dated (this did not worry us).

Review 18:Helpful English speaking staff, the Japanese style room that we booked was spacious, the hotel is located near interesting shops and restaurants. It is within walking distance of the train station as well as Matsumoto Castle. Good Japanese baths.

Review 19:Rather dirty people in the sento one day - but that happens and is not Hotel's fault.

Review 20:The room was fine, the sento wonderfully hot, the breakfast - japanese and western - extraordinarily good.

Review 21:Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The location was really close to Matsumoto Castle and only a 15 minute walk from Matsumoto station. The tea room at the hotel was good and staff there were excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and the room was a good size.

Review 22:The whole hotel felt a little dated- curtains seemed very 70s and completely out of character for the room, the coffee table had cup marks all over it and just generally a bit of a neglected air (although everything was perfectly clean and comfortable). The onsite restaurant was unusually expensive, but we never actually ate there anyway (for that reason...)

Review 23:The room was huge, for someone living in Tokyo at least! It had a small kitchen area, separate toilet, shower and washrooms and coffee table. It was in a good, but quiet location, and it was easy to reach all the main sites of Matsumoto. Staff were very helpful.

Review 24:The nearby restaurants were expensive! Better food options are available closer to the train station.

Review 25:The hotel location was good, close to the castle and merchant quarter. Lots of bars nearby.

Review 26:Nothing.

Review 27:Nice hotel location which is very convenient to Matsumoto Castle and city shops. Very friendly staff and nice spacious room. Complementary car parking.

Review 28:Location a bit far from the JR station. Wonder of they provide shuttle bus

Review 29:A hotel with a charming history. Beautiful decorations, charming place to stay. Staff were very helpful. They also provide bikes for free and have great onsen facilities

Review 30:What's not to like?

Review 31:Spacious, bright rooms and nice bathrooms; great breakfast in the hotel; excellent public baths for men and women. Perfect location almost in sight of the castle. The staff is very gracious and helpful.

Review 32:I know this might be cliche... but everything about this Ryokan was awesome! I highly recommend anyone who considers cost as a factor to try this one out. Make sure you test the waters in the public bath (on-sen). The Ryokan itself wasn't crowded, so it's likely that you're in there by yourself anyways. Also, if you do book here, be sure to request bicycles so you can tour Matsumoto in all its glory. We really loved the Matsumoto Castle!

Review 33:You had to chose (in advance) between Japanese and western breakfast. I prefer a buffet which allows me to mix and pick up what I like.

Review 34:Rooms a bit dated but quite large. Breakfast was a good quality and quantity, served at the table. Wifi reliable and signal strength OK. Very near the castly and many restaurant options.

Review 35:Decor a bit outdated. Noisy plumbing.

Review 36:Breakfast was good, and good location to the castle. Only 15 minute walk to the station.

Review 37:Enjoyed my stay.

Review 38:Nothing - it was all good

Review 39:Friendly, convenient, very clean, and lovely breakfast too..

Review 40:Very comfortable and well located just minutes on foot to the castle. Nice onsen too.

Review 43:Hotel has it own Onsen and free bicycles.

Review 44:Wowwww what a hospitality!!

Review 45:Very large traditional room with full bath attached

Review 46:nothing

Review 47:location

Review 48:the city itself, hotel next to Matsumoto castle, not far from city center and station

Review 49:Very friendly and professional staff. The nicest and largest room we had during our trip around Japan.

Review 50:Took a while to sort out wifi. dining options not clearly explained

Review 51:Location

Review 52:This hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the Matsumoto Castle and the downtown area on foot. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 53:Bathroom was a little old

Review 54:The staff were great, the meals and meal area clean and a good experience. The girls enjoyed their spacious tatami room.

Review 55:About 10 mins walk from station and 1 min to castle. Good basic hotel with decent bathroom open all night. Staff speak English.

Review 56:2 minutes walk from Matsumoto castle (which is very impressive). Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 57:nothing.

Review 58:Spacious family room, with Wifi. Nice large bathroom, with two sinks. Good location near the castle.

Review 59:good staff,nearby Matsumoto castle,good room โรงแรมน่ารักดี เงียบสงบ

Review 60:room was not so bad, but for the money I expected more

Review 61:Close to the castle and japanese breakfast are amazing!!

Review 62:Helpful staff, good position Good resturant and bakery around the corner.View over the castle from the higher floors.

Review 63:Very helpful staff, given that we speak little to no Japanese. Superb location close to the castle and other sites. Good price given the amenities.

Review 64:Location, quietness, the surrounds

Review 65:Very close to the castle Free bicycles

Review 66:Pillows

Review 67:Hotel need upgrading.

Review 68:Helpful Staff

Review 69:very clean and very accesible to Matsumoto castle, restaurants

Review 70:Lovely spacious Japanese style apartment. The public bathing room with large hot bath for guests. Matsumoto castle is a short walk away. Sneaker bus stop is very close.

Review 71:Fantastic stay - Japanese rooms immaculate with modern bathroom, English-speaking staff very professional and helpful. Coin laundry available. Very close to castle and relatively easy walking to art gallery and town. Taxi from train station/bus terminal 700 yen. Instead of set breakfast (1200 yen pp), chose breakfast offered at adjoining cafe (700 yen pp).

Review 72:The restaurant attached to the Hotel stop serving meals at 8.30pm which is a little early.

Review 73:Very close to the Matsumoto castle and Tourist information office. Great little Japanese restaurant just around the corner, that hotel staff will refer you to. The restaurant is very popular with the locals. The food is amazing and the staff are so friendly, you have to bow many times to all the waiters, chefs and the mummer - son before leaving. Mummer - son keeps a close eye on all the dinners and does not miss a trick while she attends to her cooking and boiling vats. Close to train station and Japan Alps.

Review 74:Lobby was on 2nd floor and there was no porter to help with the luggage. Hotel caters to large tour groups and staff may be overstretched and appears abrupt. Futon was not made up for the night and had to remind receptionist.

Review 75:room was spacious by Japanese standard.

Review 76:On the last morning, despite having western style breakfast nearly all week, I was suddenly swapped to a very odd Japanese breakfast (not the normal Japanese breakfast), it really didn't suit my taste and I'd have rather been asked.

Review 77:Public bath was great, my first time. Views of the mountains. Close proximity to Matsumoto Castle.

Review 78:Bit of a walk from the train station, but that may have something to do with the fact that we were there during the snow storm. ;)

Review 79:Easy walk to Matsumoto Castle. The Japanese style room was enormous and had a wonderful atmosphere. We immediately felt comfortable. Great breakfast in the morning.

Review 80:Nice big rooms, good public baths. It's an older hotel with lots of character. Very comfortable. Has a lovely tea room. Its very convenient and quiet and the laneways around are all very attractive.

Review 81:Carpets a little worn in the rooms under dressing table chair which stood out in an otherwise elegant/luxurious small hotel

Review 82:Great location for Castle and shops Our 7th floor room (710/711) had a great view of castle/mountains) Good restaurant and café Nice Onsen Comfortable rooms We felt pampered here

Review 83:nothing. i would only suggest the staff let visitors know that there are not towels in the public baths. i went down expecting to find them there (as in other places) and ended up shaking myself dry.

Review 84:the hotel had a lovely 'vibe'. the breakfast was hearty and tasty. there was a sweet olde worlde cafe attached that served equally good food. the bath was lovely and peaceful. the staff were friendly and considerate. hotel was in a great spot.

Review 85:Nothing in particular.

Review 86:It has an hot water bath open all day long! Location is good very close to Matsuyama castle. The staff very very helpful and polite.

Review 87:The hotel is very well located, a few steps away from Matsumoto castle, the tourism office and many restaurants. Very clean and comfortable, the hotel has an onsen on site and offers free bicycle rental. The staff is polite, helpful, and at ease in English. Probably the best cost / value hotel that I have seen in Japan.

Review 88:Hotel's location is absolutely convenient for the walking tours. The dinner we had were so delicate in taste and presentation. Very comfortable rooms too.

Review 89:The price was a bit steep for us, but probably fair value for money if you want central and very nice Hotel.

Review 90:Very neat, clean, professional and up-market hotel compared to our usual 'backpacker' lodgings. Most expensive accommodation we stayed in, but could not find any better - due to our late booking and its very central location a short walk from the station and a very short walk to the castle. Nice restaurant downstairs with a fair and decent western breakfast option for AUD$12 approx. Brilliant japanese bath. Very nice Japanese style rooms with roomy shower/bath and (seperate) toilet room.

Review 91:Friendly and help front desk staff of the hotel. Good hot spring.Relatively convenient location, about 15 minutes walk from the MatsumotoStation, nearby good and variety of restaurant, very closed location tothe castle. Free rental of bike for city tour.

Review 92:- Room not very clean and need a total refresh anyway. - Instead of the legendary warm japanese welcome, receptionist asked me to wait for 10min to deal with the reserved parking lot which was not easy apparently.

Review 93:Bathroom smelt bad. No English tea available in whole hotel.

Review 94:Location. Size of room was good. Was quiet.

Review 95:Good location, right in the middle of the city, very comfortable bads!

Review 96:Japanese Breakfast was too big and too expensive.

Review 97:The size of the rooms and the public bath. Proximity to the Castle and the streets by the river.

Review 98:parking, bath, very good breakfast availabilty and kindness of personnel

Review 99:Hotel needs a makeover, bathroom smelt a little.

Review 100:Good location and near the Castle and shopping areas, with local bus stopping out side the Hotel

Review 101:Lack of character

Review 102:Location was perfect

Review 103:Basic 3-4 star nothing over the top

Review 110:The Pillows were like rocks!!

Review 111:The Location

Review 112:Rooms were very small, furniture very old and some broken, walls scuffed everywhere

Review 113:Common areas were quite nice, as was breakfast. Central location.

Review 114:Lively part of Matsumoto, great room

Review 115:It was not possible to pay with Visa Credit Card???!!!
