Reviews for Sabah Hotel
Review 1:unfortunately at 1am, a/c in my room suddenly turned off.the maintenance unable to fix it and they moved us to another room at 2am.it still junior suite but felt a little bit small and had country view.
Review 2:i stay in junior suite.my kids and i like the room very much.spacious room with big and cosy bed, have balcony with chairs, and window facing swimming pool.my kid enjoyed the pool.definitely will come again
Review 3:We loved the pool, fresh air, green landscape, friendly hospitality, and spacious room. I wish we had booked earlier so we could have stayed here all four nights. Though no fault of the hotel, we needed to take my wife to the hospital for stitches, and the hotel manager accompanied us at least for an hour to ensure someone was available to translate and ensure we felt at ease.
Review 4:The interiors smelt musty and the bed and towels too. No-one knew what type of wine they had available and service was extremely slow.
Review 5:The pool was nice but everything needed a good clean
Review 6:Loved the position of the hotel amongst the bush just gave it a little more. Staff very friendly and food very good. Parking excellent. Close to monkeys etc.
Review 7:WiFi signal in room was very weak; could just have been the particular room I was in though
Review 8:The staff at this hotel were wonderfully helpful and very friendly. The hotel itself is located a short drive from town on top of a rise. The terrace and pool area backs onto forest and provides a very pleasant setting. The hotel has a good gym and a spa is also provided. The hotel "Plantation" restaurant offers very enjoyable food. The hotel is well located to visit local attractions such as the various wildlife centres at Sepilok and Labuk Bay.
Review 9:The location is not that good, a 15 minutes walk to the city center of Sandakan on a road with heavy traffic. But still one of the best places to stay in Sandakan.
Review 10:Vey nice hotel and rooms, big swimmingpool, sauna, fitness, table tennis facilities.
Review 11:Restaurant buffet - staff was indifferent - very hard to get service; buffet advertised until 10 but we arrived late just before 9 and even though there was food left, it was lukewarm and no staff about to provide plates, etc. The a la carte options were much better. There was the same cigarette butt in the elevator both day and night so obviously they didn't clean intensively :) although room was fine.
Review 12:Swimming pool is very nice with a waterslide and nice decoration; surrounded by jungle, very nice views from the elevator area; reasonable price
Review 13:Found the hotel in a convenient location and amongst lovely surroundings of nature with fresh air which was a very welcoming. The staff were pleasant and eager to help . The room was spacious and comfortable.
Review 14:Food a little pricy but very nice.
Review 15:Very cosy after a week or more in other places in Sabah. Nice pool for the kids - good for all. Really good service from all staff. Really excellent cakes in the coffee shop near reception. Tasty cocktails!
Review 16:Great hotel, great staff and fantastic amenities and extra's. Food was good, pool was great for the kids. Adjacent rooms. Very comfortable. Too bad the spa (massage treatment) was fully booked on our day there... ;)
Review 17:There was an odd smell to the room that was like old cigar smoke (which is odd as the room is non smoking) but it might have been the cleaning products used. But the adjoining room my parent's stayed in did not have this smell which was odd. Just a note that the outside dining area is smoking. Sat indoors for breakfast to avoid the smoke. There is plenty of parking available but there there is no covered access from the parking area to the hotel
Review 18:Comfortable, spacious and clean airconditioned rooms with helpful and friendly staff. Pool facilities and gym facilities were excellent. Breakfast buffet had lots of choice (thou only beef bacon but not an issue for me). The chef on the egg station was very fast and friendly. The BBQ buffet dinner was excellent with lots of choice. A short drive (which is also walkable) to town. There is plenty of on-site parking available.
Review 19:The pool was amazing, the staff was so kind to us, the room was perfect. Great value for money. Sandakan downtown is 15 minutes on foot. I definitely would recommend that place. Compared to the city hotels you feel like in a green oasis in Sabah Hotel.
Review 20:The best hotel in Sabah at a very reasonable price. They upgraded me to the junior suite, which is lovely - spacious, quiet, big terrace, big marble bathroom. Great staff, especially at the restaurant.
Review 21:Wifi was a bit slow but no problems other than that.
Review 22:Great room, great pool, amazing breakfast and a good location. Make sure you visit the Sun bear conservation centre in Sepilok too.
Review 23:Mosquitoes and the small insect bite my face in swimming poil
Review 24:Very good staff an very helpfull .. Swimming pool is lovely the hotel is five star I travelled all around the world....
Review 25:Too few people around. Staff efficient but need to be more attentive to the details, eg empty tea urn needs to be fille, empty fruit platter needs to be filled, etc.
Review 26:Excellent room, huge double bed and lovely pool.
Review 27:Price of alcoholic beverages, most expensive prices I have ever experienced anywhere in the world!!
Review 28:Big comfortable room, great outlook , fantastic pool area, lots of facilities and dinning options on site
Review 29:Maintenance issues, plumbing, light control in room, air conditioning control. Extreemly loud disco music in the garden at 17:00
Review 30:The garden The restaurant The view
Review 31:The pool staff telling off pool users to take off their swimming shirt when you know this is Malaysia!! And the towel station is mostly unattended....
Review 32:The large family swimming pool!
Review 33:Comfortable rooms, good view over the pool, good restaurants, excellent massage, helpful staff.Taxis waiting at the door, lovely interesting tea garden ten minutes walk away.
Review 34:Overpriced taxi services who think that every foreigner has an unlimited budget.
Review 35:Pool was amazing to regenerate the tired body out of traveling. I took advantage of the massage was amazing. Hotel provides adequate comfort. Shame that we have spent have so little time.
Review 36:- the most uncomfortable bed ever - very hard - needs a serious upgrade of both inside and the pool area - about 30 years out of date
Review 37:- wifi throughout - lovely staff, couldn't do enough to help
Review 38:nothing really
Review 39:Good location away from the city centre. Very friendly staff. Left a suit in the room when we checked out. Hotel staff kindly kept the suit in safe custody for me to collect on return to Sandaksn.
Review 40:Insufficient servicing of room of facilities. In particular, attention to water around.
Review 41:It is easy to stay, good is there environment in nature. Staff were very helpful.
Review 42:I booked two rooms for two nights. The doors didn't unlock on the second day and we had to get it endorsed at the counter. That was the least expected of all hotels
Review 43:The hotel did not honour the rate provided to us through Booking.com, and when this was challenged they were not prepared to discuss why
Review 44:Overall the facilities are reasonable and the majority of the staff went out of their way to be helpful. Our only issue was they did not honour the rate provided to us by booking.com and were not prepared to discuss why
Review 45:The bathroom sink was block, the bath towel was smelly even requested to change. Did not supply compliment water everyday, only provide the first 2 days. No slipper.
Review 46:The room is big n comfortable and the wifi is very good.
Review 47:Very soft pillows Pool closed during cloudy weather Maintenance issues
Review 48:ahe is getting on a bit but still has grace and character. I will stay here again if in Sandakan the Ming resturant is great the breakfast good and the staff great
Review 49:The staff at the recreation club were very friendly and helpful. The staff at the counter when we check in wore the i-dont-really-care attitude, but only she alone. My stay at the hotel was pleasant. The breakfast spread was good but dont expect anything fancy.overall, the hotel was good. Recommend online booking cuz if you call the hotel to book, the rate is more expensive.
Review 50:I was staying at this hotel 2 months ago and was told then it was under refurbishment. The hotel room then was old and very rundown. So on this return visit I anticipated a fresh and refurbished room. After all the room pictures on Booking.com look very pretty. It was a disappointment. There weren't much change except new tasteless flowery red carpet and dull wallpaper. Don't think I want to go back again.
Review 51:greenery location and peaceful.
Review 52:Nothing.
Review 53:Hotel was more like a resort. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Was within walking distance of town centre and places of interest. very quiet location on edge of jungle area. Would stay again if in Sandakan.
Review 54:Nothing!
Review 55:Location, 5 minute tai ride to centre of town, 45 minutes form Sepilok relaxing location, with pool. it was a busy Borneo bank holiday weekend when we stayed but it added to the experience. relaxing café/bar area which you could use all day /night. plenty of choice for breakfast. Ming restaurant in the hotel was excellent and most defintely value for money
Review 56:Very bad in food taste , can't even cook a simple chinese style rice noodles !! If you lodge a complain to the F&B manager , they won't give you satisfied answers !!! Very bad , please do not eat in the hotel restaurant both Oriental and Western's .
Review 57:Quite dated but renovations being done. Quite noisy at times. Food and drink very expensive. Better going down to the town.
Review 58:The pool is very good. Nice layout and location. Staff are very friendly.
Review 59:We're sorry we could only spend one night in the hotel and Sandakan!
Review 60:My husband and I were glad that we chose Sabah Hotel, built on the site of the Governor's home, from three hotels recommended to us for our first visit to Sandakan for Memorial Day on 15 Aug 2014. We were able to walk to the writer Agnes Keith's House and the adjacent English Tea House for an English cream tea with a view of the harbour.
Review 61:I really don't like the bed cos is too hard for me. I understand that its good for my backbone but i can't except its.
Review 62:The swimming pool is excellent for me & my children ( 4 years old ) especially the pebble wash side pool.
Review 63:Noise from the renovations. Carpet was stained. Rooms were dated. Some of the surrounds are in need of maintenance.
Review 64:Location in the rainforest. Friendly staff. Pool. Good size room.
Review 65:The hot shower was bad in room 520, with the right temperature, the water is too small, and the temperature is too hot with the right water. There is also no bar at the lobby and i can sit down and enjoy some beer.
Review 66:When we arrived a female member of the staff was slightly rude. Hotel could use refurbishment, and actually theyre rebuilding some places now.
Review 67:The hotel is located in a green garden with palmtrees with a big swimmingpool. Rooms are a little bit old fashion but gave a nice atmosphere. Food in the morning is very diverse. From typical Malay to toast, yoghurt, fruits, omelets. Also service in Plantation cafe is good. Staff is helpfull, some of them dont speak very well english.
Review 68:The downside of the location is that it is hard to independently get to town. The sidewalks between the hotel driveway and the bus stops (or to walk to town as we did) need better, more frequent maintenance so you don't have to walk in the road. This won't matter if you have your own car or take taxis.
Review 69:Almost everything. The advantage of the location is you are in a little rainforest oasis, separated from the the hustle and bustle of downtown. Best breakfast and wifi we had in Borneo. My 8 year old loved the pool and it even had some shade (which the Sheraton does not). The pool is bigger than the Sheraton too and more kid oriented.
Review 70:We were upgraded because they couldn't find our booking and no other space. The room was very clean and modern, however had a damp, musty smell. We were moved to another room which was another upgrade with a balcony, although a lot more dated.
Review 71:The staff were incredibly helpful. We left our passports behind when checking out. The staff responded efficiently and sympathetically to our frantic call from the airport, found them and sent them in a taxi within 5 mins (taxi details recorded). We didn't miss our flight. Pool was lovely and the feast to break Ramadan fast was magnificent buffet with everything imaginable plus more. Beef rendang and satays were among best we've had this holiday. Thoroughly recommend this hotel and I don't understand why it isn't more popular.
Review 72:cafe has limited menu
Review 73:The hotel location (I like being around nature)& the pool (located very near to lift/near cafe)
Review 74:No bad experience. Only felt the towels could be better.
Review 75:Very pleasant staff
Review 76:Horrible house wine.
Review 77:Great breakfast buffet. Very varied BBQ buffet on Saturday.
Review 78:The breakfast
Review 79:Friendly staffs
Review 80:Without own transport, quite difficult to go out.
Review 81:It is almost resort like hotel. In the wood. Some privacy.
Review 82:Internet was very slow. Breakfast could be also a little bit better.
Review 83:No hose for toilet use in the bathroom
Review 84:The pools
Review 85:Tropical surrounding
