Reviews for Dormy Inn Matsumoto

Review 1:Excellent hotel. Various japanese breakfast with bee larvas to try ! Nice sento on the roof. And above all excellent staff, very nice and helpfull. They helped us to organise a trip to see the monkey swimming in hot bath (Jigokudani Monkey Park). We were very happy we could see that. Thanks again !

Review 2:It's a bit of an older Dormy, but impeccably clean. Breakfast was a little thin (Toast and Coffee), but it was also pretty cheap so I can't complain.

Review 3:Very good bathroom, air purifier in the room. Spacious and comfortable room, good bed. Easy location to get to with the station nearby and Matsumoto Castle a pleasant 15 minute walk away.

Review 4:The staff was okay helpful but not beyond giving tips to the city. I guess the problem was the language. Rooms are Japanese size.

Review 5:This is a no-nonsense hotel that'll meet your basic needs. It is about a 10min walk from the train and bus station. And another 10-15min walk to the prime attraction of the city - Matsumoto Castle.

Review 6:Hard to say what I don't liked. Dormny still use traditional keys instead of magnetic cards to open the room. That means you have to leave the key at front desk every time you leave. It's not an issue but you have to identify yourself every time to get the keys.

Review 7:Nice location, closer to station, friendly staff and good breakfast included (optional). This hotel also has hot springs but I didn't used this time.

Review 8:We had some problem when we returned to the hotel after sightseeing. The reception on the next shift didn't really understand English so it was hard to explain that we had already checked in, paid in full plus given the extra deposit. I thought she could have just check the system and things would be clear.

Review 9:Outdoor bath, free ramen supper

Review 10:Was spoken slightly rudely on initial arrival by man behind desk (a manager possibly?) because we arrived an few hours before check in time (we just wanted to leave bags) however rest of staff lovely and were able to check in after all. Bad day?

Review 11:Nice location, comfortable room and lovely rooftop Onsen. Staff very friendly and nice breakfast choice.

Review 12:Only Japanese TV channels, which was the case in most hotels I stayed in on this trip. No other complaints

Review 13:Convenient for the station and castle. Offered a free soup and noodles later in the evening ( after 9.30 ). Staff very helpful and breakfast reasonably priced and good quality.

Review 14:The room was a little cosy but it was more than adequate for our needs.

Review 15:Loved the convenient location, buffet breakfast, free supper, toiletries, comfortable bed and pleasant staff.

Review 16:i wish they would change their sleep wear. in the past, they were cotton. now they are polyester and uncomfortable to sleep in.

Review 17:stayed here three years previously and enjoyed my stay. i brought my friends this time and they enjoyed their stay as much as i did.

Review 18:Hotel was a 7-8mins stroll from the main station and easy to find. It's either a new building or must have been recently renonvated because everything felt fresh, clean and light. The top floor onsen was wonderful and spacious and had a nice outdoor pool as well as a cold water plunge pool for the sauna. Dormy Inn is normally good for budget travelers but this particular branch was especially nice and comfortable. Highly recommend.

Review 19:Room and bath were small but this was expected in Japan.

Review 20:This hotel is a real value for the money. Close to the train station; comfortable bed; good breakfast; fast wi-fi; self-service laundry with free washer and small charge for the dryer; and as a bonus, lovely Japanese bath on the rooftop.

Review 21:One night we couldn't turn out light off, there's a little switch that has 3 settings which was near the floor as you walk in - we had a pretty bad night sleep but the next day I managed to find it and turn the light off. I think it's meant to be on a motion sensor but somehow it was flicked to always on.

Review 22:Dormy inn had a lot of services on offer. Breakfast was included and was a great mix of Japanese and western. The free ramen in the evening and the onsen were both a surprise and delight. The staff was very friendly.

Review 23:N/A

Review 24:Location excellent to station & castle. Very comfortable bed. Gorgeous onsen. Delicious breakfast. The staff were just lovely & couldn't do enough to help.

Review 25:Room was a little worn in spots, but nothing severe.

Review 26:Great location, comfortable beds, good breakfast and a rooftop "onsen" for a relaxing bath. The twin room we had was an excellent size, with a good sitting area and an extra sink outside the bathroom.

Review 27:Hotel made a big effort to accommodate English speakers - they had a map of local restaurants that have English menus. Extra pillows were available in different firmness. The Onsen was lovely (trees and scrubs, inside and outside pools).

Review 28:This hotel offered some nice extras -- free shaved ice in the afternoon, noodles at night, and a rooftop onsen. The breakfast buffet was pretty extensive. Location was few blocks from the train station and central to attractions. Rooms were clean.

Review 29:Convenient location close to Matsumoto Station and only a short stroll to Matsumoto Castle. The room wasn't large but sufficient for one person, with a comfortable bed and a foam pillow, not one of the usual rock-hard varieties favoured by Japanese hotels. Breakfast was a buffet with quite an extensive range of both Japanese and western dishes available. The public bath facilities provided are excellent. I will probably stay at other Dormy Inn properties based on my stay here.

Review 30:Location is good. It is in the walking distance from the station. The room is clean. The hotel offer free ramen at night. The open air onsen is relaxing. It was pretty nice to have security code for woman room. Staff is very helpful and speak good english. There is an english instruction handout for everything.

Review 31:Great location: 5 min from the train station and 15 min walk from the castle. Also very close to restaurants. Good breakfast selection. No problem with storing luggage. Nice touch with free ramen in the lobby in the evening. For me it was a great place to stop for 1 night coming from Tokyo on the way to Kamikochi in the Alps. Good onsen.

Review 32:Nothing bad.

Review 33:This was a fantastic place. Value for price, luxury touches, roof-top onsen & sauna, complimentary ramen, great breakfast buffet - all soooo good! I will return!

Review 34:Western style breakfast was pretty weak, but was include in the very good room rate to be fair

Review 35:Has everything you need, pretty comfy, great value and location for train station, castle etc

Review 36:The breakfast was good. The onsen on the roof was very new and nice. The room is very clean. It's sweet that they offer you soup noodle for free at the night time. I had a good stay there!

Review 37:Near the Matsumoto station. The castle and most places of interest can be reached on foot. The hot bath is very nice. The breakfast was tasty. The room was bigger than the usual ones we had in Japan. The receptionist was very friendly. There are free mangas to read. Free umbrellas if it is raining. We were 2 hours early and we could check in - in other hotels this was not possible.

Review 38:The fact I've had to give this place such a good review that if I come to Matsumoto again, the hotel may well be booked out :)

Review 39:Stayed here twice in the course of our trip, and both times I was really impressed with everything from the service, to the room, to the cleanliness. The bed was really comfortable, and the room was generously sized by Japanese standards.

Review 40:Not too large a room but fine by Japanese standards.

Review 41:A 5 minute walk from the station, very central. Excellent onsen, with sauna space: clean, very relaxing and even an open door space, worth the trip.

Review 42:Good selection at the buffet breakfast, udon service in the evening and coffee service in the afternoon Very close to the station Within walking distance of the castle

Review 43:Loved the outdoor onsen! The laundry and dryer machines came in very useful. Breakfast was wonderful! Everyone was very polite and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.

Review 44:Very small rooms, smell of smoke even on the non smoking floor.

Review 45:The staff were helpful, the hotel well located close to the train station. WiFi worked well and the bed was comfortable.

Review 46:Overall, I had a great stay: nice town, good food and its probably the most clean japanese city id ever been.

Review 47:Break fast buffet was really warm and sweet, free and it has both Japanese and Western food. In house onsen was excellent, and WIFI was real fast.

Review 48:The room is very small but the bed is still comfortable.

Review 49:Location is excellent. The hot-spring in the hotel located on the 9th floor is also very comfortable.

Review 50:1. Hotel was a slight distance away from the train station more than I would have liked

Review 51:1. Clean hotel 2. Spacious room 3. Great breakfast selection 4. Friendly and attentive staff 5. Good location

Review 52:Nothing!

Review 53:English speaking staff and a good recommendation of local food (in english! Rooms are clean. Hotel is at a good location and price is reasonable.

Review 54:Great location you can see the hotel sign from the station. New rooms and new bathroom was very comfortable in a twin room with two adults a child and a baby. Great staff husband had tonsillitis and they found us a doctor 1 min from the hotel.

Review 55:Breakfast not as good and varied as other Drmy Inns

Review 56:The natural spring water onsen, short walk to the JR station, nearby food street that comes alive at night

Review 57:Nothing to report

Review 58:Very friendly staff, location close enough to the railway station, room lager than the Japanese standard, free noodles after 21:30 o'clock, beautiful public bath (onsen) for hotel guests, all free. Really an excellent place to stay in Matsumoto.

Review 59:A nice modern hotel, easy walking distance from the station and the tourist attractions of Matsumoto. Rooms reasonably generous size by Japanese standards. The rooftop onsen is so nice, don't miss the outdoor bath, they have made a real effort to make it a little oasis up there. There's also a sauna, which is not always the case in Japanese baths. Staff were very friendly, and spoke good english, and I liked that they left us a little bag of fresh towels even though we didn't get the room made up.

Review 60:Nothing.

Review 61:The public bath were truly beautiful and clean. The room was big for Japan. The free coffee and ramen were appreciated. We regretted spending only one night there.

Review 62:Having been a regular visitor to Matsumoto over the last 5 years and stayed at nearly all of the comparative sized Hotels, I would recommend the Dormy Inn as a good choice.

Review 63:The onsen and facilities in general were excellent. Clear English instructions were provided which helped with our first time using onsen. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Rooms were well-maintained and very clean.

Review 64:Enjoyed relaxing in the in-house onsen. The Japanese style breakfast was very good with many choices. Staff were very helpful at all times and provided an excellent local map with recommended restaurants. Our double room was quite roomy with great facilities. Matsumoto turned out to be an interesting destination where much effort was put into tourism.

Review 65:Nothing

Review 66:Everything was great. Location is good, next to the JR station and the center. The onsen is really nice including inside and outdoor bath and sauna. also there is free ramen in the evening 21:30 to 23 pm
