Reviews for Chez Les Berbéres
Review 1:It is difficult to find as there's no sign after one on the street so need to ask people around. what is not a problem as everybody around are really nice and helpful! :)
Review 2:Everything is amazing at this place! Food is delicious! Views from the terrace and balcony are breathtaking. Such a relaxing place to stay for a while!
Review 3:We areived very late because we went to the wrong Imlil. Although it has stated on the website that the check in is only until 9pm, the owner was so kind to wait for us. We arrived at 1 in the morning. And he came all the way down to the road to pick us up And brought us to the property. Theres no parking space, only off road parking. And it took about 10 mins walk to the property. But it was worth it. The property was beautiful. The best we had during our trip And the view was breathtaking. The breakfast was so delicious and the owner's wife, khadijah was so kind. Beautiful people. Beautiful place. Beautiful experience!
Review 4:We had booked what was called a "suite" on the website which was supposed to have a private bathroom. But we had a shared bathroom/toilet and the bathroom and toilet didn't even have a latch! So my husband had to wait outside while I was in, just in case someone else entered by mistake! It is also a shared balcony. Disappointed. Food was good, but very expensive.
Review 5:View from the balcony and terrace was beautiful
Review 6:They had trouble with hot water, but this is common for many of the village houses in the mountains because they produce hot water with bottled gas. Also, they had really nice fire places in the rooms, which weren't lit even though it was quite cold - perhaps if I had asked they would have happily lit them.
Review 7:The host was very friendly, attentive, and spoke English. The terrace has amazing views of the famous Toubkal mountain, and is south facing so it is a Sun trap. Authentic Moroccan family house, great insight into village life.
Review 8:no comment
Review 9:Everything is great! The owners are the best, very nice. The dinner was delicious, very good! I read review that people are complaining about location, you are in the mountains! Ok, maybe with a suitcase is difficult to get to the house, but this is for hikers with a backpacks. And also, you can hire a mule to get your suitcase up, you whiny people!! The room was clean, warm, the view from the terrace is beautiful! And the price is very low for what you get.
Review 10:The homely feel of the riad, with young family hosts very much part of the daily life of the riad; Mohammed the host is so warm and friendly and goes out of his way to make sure your stay is perfect; the quality of the dinner and breakfast was fantastic.
Review 11:Its pretty difficult to get there - the house is on the hill - but if you're going to hike toubkal its nothing:)
Review 12:The lady who owns the place is super nice, she sewed my ripped backpack and talked with us. Awesome place.
Review 13:but we went at a time where it was very cold, rainy and damp, so did not enjoy it. Also, could not see any of the spectacular scenery because of the constant fog. You might want to go there summer time.
Review 14:I liked the guest house and the staff were very kind and made us feel at home,
Review 15:We were disappointed that Kadija was unable to cook dinner for us during our stay.
Review 16:We loved the location, which is at the top of a steep village just outside Imlil, with a spectacular view of the mountains. There were five of us with suitcases, so we hired a mule to take the luggage up and down. It is a beautiful, exotic and very interesting place to stay, since you are right in amongst the people and animals of the village - it really is 'chez les berberes'. The sunrises, sunsets and stars at night are awesome.
Review 17:The litter in the village (Marrocco in general :-)
Review 18:The host was very friendly and helpful (fluent in French and English). We invaded the entire upper floor and felt welcome at all time. The view from the roof terrace was magnificent. The two km walk from Imlill to the village through the valley of apples was very pleasant.
Review 19:The food was not great, a tajine that had more bone and fat than meat, considering the price a little meat would not have cost much. Also the location is outside the village on the opposite side of the trail to Toukbal.
Review 20:The location is well off the road and away from light pollution, giving a cear sky for star gazing.
Review 21:What a lovely, low key spot to relax, stretch, think, read, enjoy the sunshine, tea on the roof terrace. The staff were all wonderful... Very welcoming ,Lovely riad with nice, comfortable rooms.
Review 22:It is very difficult to get to the guest house. One has to follow a very rough, steep pathway which is very uncomfortable with luggage. We were also disappointed that the hostess couldn't cook for us as she had a small cut on her finger, but the following evening she cooked for other guests without letting us know. It is quite a walk to find another place to eat if one is unable to eat at the guest house. When we expressed our disappointment at this, the hostess became very impolite and defensive. She subsequently claimed that we were a "no show". Luckily we still had our receipt as proof that we had stayed at the guest house as per our booking and that we paid on departure.
Review 23:The view was good and the accommodation reasonable.
Review 24:You must understand that this is a backpackers destination. You have to walk quite a ways on a dirt path and climb up a hill through narrow dirt lanes to get to the house. No wheelie suitcases will make it. There are no signs, and we couldn't use our phones, so wandered around through the village for quite a while before a boy showed us the right house. Also, we had the room with the 'shared bathroom'. It's very basic and is open right onto the guest living space.
Review 25:Khadija, the owner, is lovely, warm and very helpful! She's a delight. This was a wonderful experience in a Berber home. The view is gorgeous! Her husband noticed our bags in the car and took them to his parents house to make sure they were safe overnight - very helpful. The dinner and breakfast were both delicious.
Review 26:Please note if you are a muslim couple wanting to stay in Imlil, you must provide a marriage certificate as proof. Luckily I had a copy of mine on the phone and that was sufficient. If we didn't make a phone call on the day to the owners we wouldn't have known of this and probably turned back after travelling for 6 hours as they don't except muslim married couples who have no proof of being married. This is just the rule of the village nothing against the owners.
Review 27:My husband and I spent 1 night here and wish we could have stayed longer. It is perfectly situated in the valley offering you fabulous view of the mountains. The view from the terrace is lovely and we cant wait to go back!! Kadija and Hassan and their son were a joy to stay with. We felt immediately part of their 'family' and were asked to treat their home as 'our home' - and this was genuine. No request we made was looked on as too much trouble......We chatted to Kadija a lot and learned about berber life and life in Morocco. The magnificient coffee Kadija served at breakfast was something really special. We had our dinner, breakfast and lunch here for a great price. Very tasty. You wont be disappointed. We cant wait to visit Imlil again and explore the area more.
Review 28:It is a tough find - but with the help of a local boy it was simple
Review 29:Views - Toubkal, architecture, true mountain life of Morocco Hostess - just, amazing! Food - best in Morocco! Décor - prettiest of our stays
Review 30:Hot shower was tricky, but not impossible. Breakfast was basic. Bed rather hard, but huge.
Review 31:The home cooked food in the evening was excellent. Location is wow! VFM was tops.
Review 32:A wonderful guest house in a stunning location. I was made to feel very welcome. The food was delicious and my room was cosy and had great views of the Atlas Mountains. Sitting on the sun terrace in the afternoon is a very special experience.
Review 33:We were in February, and despite the electric heater operating all night, it was very cold in the room. But for someone who goes hiking this shouldn't be a problem :-)
Review 34:Wonderful scenery, delicious food, very friendly hosts, excellent value for the money.
Review 35:Leaving....
Review 36:Chez le Berbers is tucked away in a maze of houses in an off road village but dont let that put you off, we were met at the road about 400 yards away and led to it through fascinating narrow alleys by the owner who carried our bags for us. Its remoteness is charming and the hospitality inside wonderful, clean, warm, friendly, safe and with plenty of excellent traditional food. We were made to feel part of the family but had our own space too and the view from the terrace and roof top are amazing. Wifi worked well considering its location and there was plenty of hot water and we were given a portable fire to make sure we kept warm (it was winter). The combination of the remoteness of location, stunning views, and wonderful hospitality in a simple but comfortable warm friendly family setting make this place hard to beat, go and you wont be disappointed.
Review 37:a little chilly at night in winter so make sure you grab the room with the open fire.
Review 38:incredible location, getting the afternoon sun on the balcony when the town below is in the shade of the mountain, easy access to walking trails, good food, very secure, very welcoming and one of the best views you're likely to get anywhere. period.
Review 39:We were visiting over New Years. Even then, the light on the valley is breathtaking and Chez Les Berbers gets more sun on it than any other building in the area! Best breakfast we had throughout our travels, local produce and the 'secret recipe spiced coffee' is amazing! Really sets you up for a days walking. Khadija and Hassan are so warm and welcoming, we were truly relaxed in their home. Their son is also adorable, we had fun playing together on the terrace! We much preferred staying in the village of Ait Souka to Imlil itself, you get a truer sense of life there than in the more commercially driven center. Still a great location for many walks. Thank you both very much for making our visit that much more memorable.
Review 40:First and foremost, this stay was excellent value for money. When we arrived at around 11pm, we were offered a hot meal. This sort of hospitality remained for the duration of our 4 night stay. We traveled during Ramadan and this was truly a spectacle in the mountains. We were naturally very inquisitive about it and the owners were more than happy to answer all of our questions. We stayed in the room with en suite facilities and this was very spacious and traditionally decorated. From the dining area, all guests could go out onto a large balcony, about 25 feet wide. Having seen a lot of the properties in the village, I believe this balcony to hold the best view of Imlil. A true spectacle. We shall hopefully return for Ramadan next year. Chris
Review 41:Not even Superman could make it to Imlil in 10 minutes. It is at least 30 minutes from Imlil, and 20 to Imlil walking.
Review 42:The view is stunning, genuinely. The host (I think Khadija) was great, she made us breakfast to go and really did try to make us feel welcome in her lovely home.
Review 43:The house is in the middle of the berber village in the mountains, with beautiful view and absolute silence at night, stars...Host family is ver friendly, helpful, meal are excellent ;)
Review 44:The house is not easily accessible from the road in Imlil. We had a mull to take our suitcases down the valley and up again to the house. The water pressure is poor so do not expect great showers
Review 45:As the owners Khadija and Hassan live in the house with their 3 year old son, this is a real experience of rustic living with the Berbers. They are a lovely family and made us feel very at home. We stayed there for 4 nights and used it as our base for exploring the Imlil region and to climb Mount Toubkal. Khadija cooked us some lovely tagines and royal couscous on our last evening there and organised our transfer from Marrakesh.
Review 46:It was a great value for money, great view from the balcony and really cosy rooms. I would highly recommend home made meals prepared by the owners.
Review 47:location,hard to find,no direct acces from the road
Review 48:delicious food,great hospitality,clean and tidy
Review 49:Great service and friendly staff. Food was Delish. Would stay again.
Review 50:Beautiful room, great view from the roof terrace, friendly staff.
Review 51:The host Khadijah was helpful and had put in place all the little touches that make a stay comfortable
Review 52:Perfect food and staff.
Review 53:Great hostess in a very authentic Berber village, amazing view from the terrace, delicious food!
Review 54:Recommend. Fabulous rooms, Great terrace view, central location. the views of the mountains and surroundings – from our balcony, Great helpful staff.
Review 55:Hostess very helpful
Review 56:charming and helpful owners, great atmosphere of a real home, people, views from the terrace, unique localization :)
Review 57:If you want to get to Imlil you need to cross the village and the valley.
Review 58:Excellent host
Review 59:Chez les Berberres is definitely worth reccomending. Place is not in thecenter of Imlil, but on the side of a hill, what builds its intimatecharacter. It's cosy, peaceful and very clean. Mountains and villagelife outside and warm hospitality of Hassan and his wife inside pairwell. Hassan speaks french and his wife speaks english so you cancommunicate easily, and they are eager to help you, if they only can. Aswe decided to eat at Chez les Berberres we must say that food was verygood and portions are big enough to feed hungry mountaineers. After ourstay in Imlil we spend few days in Marrakesh and only once we'vefound a place to compete with Chez les Berberres meals, but itwouldn't stand price comparisons.
Review 60:I can't think about anything bad to say....
Review 61:Everything was amazing! Especially Khadija's specialities! Also her husband Hassan was always ready to help. And their child was the sunshine during our stay. We will definitely return there!
Review 62:- difficult navigation - the site is on the opposite side of the hill to where gps coordinates navigated us. We needed to ask locals several times. - you can't get to chez directly by car. aprox. 15 minutes by hilly walk is needed. It wasn't big problem for us but you need to be aware of that.
Review 63:- warm welcoming and excellent service by owners themselves - beautiful mountain view from room/terrace - English spoken - very nice village - complete opposite to nearby Marrakech from which we arrived to Imlil. All very relaxed. - great food (besides breakfast we had dinner too) - definitely recommended
Review 64:A little bit difficult to find, as they are only allowed one sign post. Everyone knows the place as "Chez Hassan", so ask for Hassan's place once you have turned off the main road. It is well worth it !
Review 65:Exceptionally friendly and helpful. Hassan organized a great trek up and down Mount Tubkal at a very favorable price. Wait with organizing your trek till you get here. The breakfasts were delicious as were the optional dinners. I even managed to cook my own food as well. Upstair rooms were bright, comfortable, clean and with views to die for :).
Review 66:Access to the house is a bit unusual but don't let this scare you off...
Review 67:Everything...nicely decorated rooms, food (great breakfast and excellent dinner made by Hatidze and served with help of her husband Hassan). Very memorable stay! Highly recommend!
Review 68:Very friendly, knowledgeable owners. Great to stay in a village and see a bit of Morroccan life. Beautiful views from the terrace. A little tricky to find - but we should have just phoned. Anyway, we got there by asking people and it was all fine!
Review 69:This place was fabulous. The staff was incredibly helping. I was there at the busiest time of the year but still, they came to pick me at the airport, made their waiters wake up early to prepare my breakfast and booked a chauffeur to drive me around at a friendly price. The room was nice, well decorated and clean. The restaurant offers excellent food and the terrace on the roof is beautiful. It was a great experience to live in the mountains for a few days., Thank you hassan and your small family.
Review 70:From the moment we arrived at Chez Les Berberes we knew we had chanced upon an absolute gem in the tiny village of Ait Soukha, just above Imlil. We were met at the airport by a friendly taxi driver and taken on the one-and-a-half hour journey to the beautiful, traditional Berber home of Khadije and Hassan. Nothing was too much trouble, from the extra blankets, a portable heater, and a bowl of hot salt water for tired, aching feet, to delicious, home-cooked tajine, couscous, breakfast pancakes with home-made jams and honey, advice on where to go and who would guide you there, and time to tell stories about Berber life. Really, Khadije and Hassan were not just our hosts - we honestly felt like part of their family, and their genuine warmth, kindness and helpfulness made our stay so. memorable that we will DEFINITELY be returning! Chez les Berberes is an absolute delight - and the views of the mountains and down into the valley are stunning. We were lucky enough to have snow whilst staying there, which was a magical experience! (A word of warning - whilst it was 25 degrees in Marrakech, a mere one-and-a-half hours away, it was freezing at night in the mountains...Take your thermals!!) Don't hesitate - book your stay at Khadije and Hassan's little paradise - you will be enchanted. It is just fabulous!!
Review 71:It is hard to find but well known in the village so you got to ask your way through.
Review 72:The hosts are really nice and speak both french and english. You have a nice terrace Towards South with an amazing view. The breakfast ist rich and good. You should also try the supper! The hosts really try and succeed to make you äs comfortable as possible!
Review 73:Location and breakfast Was great. Rooms were very very clean. We dined in the hotel that evening and had a fantastic meal. Definitely the best place we stayed at in Morocco. I recommend it.
Review 74:There is nothing to dislike about Chez Berbers. It is perfect. Hassan and Khadije are perfect hosts and offer their home with true Berber hospitality.
Review 75:By far the best days we have ever spent anywhere in the world.Hassan and Khadija are perfect hosts and amazing, fiendly people with excellent French and English.True Berber family with little Hanir. House is immaculate . Our room was large and very comforable with incredible views of the spectacular location. Meals were delicious. Trecking trip organised for us was amazing. Cannot praise this gem of Morroco enough. It was a privilege to be there and we hope to return. Impossible to describe this adequately!
Review 76:Just the greatest place we had to stay in while in Morocco. Owners of this guest house are the best people. Tasty food, good atmosphere, view from balcony - priceless. Definitely visiting if ever coming back to Morocco.
Review 77:We found the supply of hot water to the shower and sink a little hit and miss.....but this was NOT a problem caused by our hosts but more one created by issues with the supply of local water which is irregular at times.
Review 78:The hosts, Hadija and Hassan, were just the nicest, best people you could imagine. Food was simply delicious and varied and reflected local Berber tastes. The location in terms of trekking or simple walks was just brilliant, and the views from the balcony just took our breath away. Our hosts were brilliant in sorting out anything we needed. All very very special.
Review 79:I Had a Wonderful stay, our Hosts Hassan and Brahim made a great effort to look after us and ensure that we were comfortable, happy and felt welcome. The location of the Guest House is stunning, especially with the terrace overlooking the imlil village and Toubkal Mountain Views
Review 80:I Recommend this Guest House If you stay at " Chez les Berberes " you not only enjoy fantastic hospitality, great food and a great location, I loved Chez les Berberes . It's a pretty house, in a gorgeous location, with breathtaking views. Sipping mint tea on the terrace, surrounded by silence and magnificence of the Atlas mountains is something I will never forget.
Review 81:a little disorganised. no sign on hotel that it was chez les berberes. accessing key to get in took time several times breakfast late - had to wake staff at 0830 to get breakfast. did not appear to know agreed price for room
