Reviews for Cosmos Hotel
Review 1:The insolation had some problemes-exterior windows. In december was very cold.
Review 2:When we arrived, because we stayed for a longer period, they offered us an appartment at the same price as for a room. Very polite staff.
Review 3:Everything was great--no complaints.
Review 4:The ladies at the front desk; the cleaning lady on the 10th floor; the corn flakes at breakfast; the "Soviet Feel" of the hotel.
Review 5:- The hotel is really old - the furniture, the draw and everything else. - In the bathroom there was a bad smelling - The breakfast was with cold eggs, stale bread, and bad coffee and poor
Review 6:+ the staff did not have a standard room, but they offer us a superior room in the same price as we booked here. + the room was clean
Review 7:The room was okay but the fridge was so loud we had to unplug it, and the window didn't fit into the frame well, so it let in outside noise. Also, the wifi didn't work well in our room, we had to go to the lobby.
Review 8:The staff was excellent! it was located a little out of the city, but as the receptionist was happy to call taxis for us, this wasn't a problem. And taxis were really cheap!
Review 9:i stayed one night and everything was ok
Review 10:Huge hotel close to the city center (around 5/10 min by walk). Architecture in pure soviet style, furniture vintage but pratical. Receptionist very polite and she speaks an excellent english. Hotel clean. Breakfast good with a good variety of food. Big market, central autobus station and restaurants close to the structure. Nice city view if you have room located in the high floors. System heating powerful.
Review 11:pretty old and basic facilities, some of the staff are very friendly, others a little grumpy
Review 12:fair offer at a very good location, in walking distance to the city center
Review 13:*You ALWAYS have to wait an eternity for the elevator. *The room was old and not good looking - not very good for romantic trip ;)
Review 14:*The staff was very nice and helpful *The location is pretty good - 15 minute walk to the very centre *There is a Hertz car rental office in the hotel *Wifi worked smoothly *If you are looking for "back to the past" experience, this is a great place for you
Review 15:Breakfast enough but lacking imagination.
Review 16:Staff were very friendly; hotel on main bus/tram route. Everything worked in hotel as this was an old Soviet style building but all good. Really good value for money; will stay next year as well.
Review 17:The breakfasts are Russian-style, so that may not appeal to everyone.
Review 18:The staff at this refurbished Soviet-era hotel are really friendly. The location is pretty good for travellers arriving by bus or train and not too far from the city centre either. The wifi was pretty decent in my room and the lobby.
Review 19:Noise from the Casino next door prevented us from sleeping on at least three nights. Poor workmanship in rooms advertised as renovated.
Review 20:Friendly and helpful reception desk staff. Breakfast was okay but having the same menu got tiresome for long-staying guests.
Review 21:Elevator doors shut rather quickly if there are others already in the elevator - can be a bit jolting. Was asked to pay early since there were many guests leaving in the morning, which I gladly did, only to have to wait in order for the staff to check the room to make sure nothing was missing or broken. Not pleasant nor necessary.
Review 22:Staff were wonderful - very helpful. Secure parking was nice. Wifi was consistently good in the room. Maintenance and upgrades are still years away, but this property was fine all things considered.
Review 23:The furniture is really old. The breakfast options are limited, and have not changed during my 6 nights of stay there.
Review 24:Staff was really nice and helpful. My room included a balcony, a desk, and a large fridge. It was very clean, and the cleaning lady did a proper job every day I was there. The hotel is decorated in the old-fashioned, socialist style. Staying there is like traveling back in time at least two decades, which can be a tremendous experience. The location is also good. It is in walking distance of the railway station (about 5-10 min) and the downtown (about 10-15 minutes).
Review 25:good location next to the train station, some bus stops, shops ect.;very friendly and helpful staff; clean rooms with ac, WiFi and refrigerator;very good prices for room, bar, services
Review 26:The leading woman at the reception desk was extremely helpful and efficient in all planning for my stay in Chisinau and speaks good English. Good location near Railway and bus stations. The rooms at the back side are quiet and have balconies with afternoon sun.
Review 27:Rooms were not too clean at all. In one of the rooms we found a bug and it went under a closet. The balcony window and door frames are still the ones from 20 years ago. Beds are not so comfortable and for a double bed they provided a single bed sheet. TVs are of CRT type, very old and with bad reception. Although the exchange bureau from the lobby does not belong to the hotel, the lady at the exchange is very rude and was refusing to give us information about exchange rate and even a receipt.
Review 28:The location is quite good, and the personnel was very kind to us, even called some POIs and asked for information. Although on their site there are 2 types of rooms (economy and economy refurbished), for booking customers the refurbished ones are available, which was a big relief. Bathroom was pretty clean, provided with soap and shampoo. The WI-FI signal was good(5th floor). Rooms have AC and that’s a big plus. Breakfast was acceptable for the price paid, but could be better. Relatively close(30 min walk) to Stefan cel Mare Park, Triumphal Arch and The Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of the Lord”.
Review 29:There were no special coins available for the water dispenser on the ground floor during out of office hours which in hot weather was rather annoying. Hotel security staff could be more helpful and cooperative (in particular during out of office hours)
Review 30:Nice location, friendly and professional staff, excellent breakfast. WiFi was better than during previous stayings
Review 31:very few choices for breakfast but good if not a very fancy person
Review 32:Good location for visiting. walking distance from main atractions. Supermarket close open 24/7. Atrium very close, good to party. Friendly staff. Guarded parking.
Review 33:Room stank of smoke that air freshener coudn't cure as nicotine obviously embedded in carpets etc over many years. People smoking in lobby. Breakfast woeful - eg cold fried eggs, powder coffee
Review 34:reliable hot water, aircon, cheap, tram/bus stops just outside so easy to get to centre (2 lei on 1,4,5,8,28) and airport (3 lei on 165). Greenhills supermarket across road.
Review 35:the hotel needs urgent refreshing, balcony shabby, breakfast a bit poor, bad room illumination
Review 36:tower hotel, well located in the south of the city center with shopping facilities nearby, large, bright and cozy apartment on 10th floor, interior a bit sovjet-oldfashioned, not very renovated, reception staff friendly and helpful (absolutely outstanding!, the girls speaking almost all important european idioms), well working air condition, free and safe parking, WI-Fi very well working
Review 37:The hotels is old, it needs renovation and the sheets are old and smelly.
Review 38:The location is very good, internet is great, really nice staff people , they have a good parking lot. Also at breakfast there is a all you can eat buffe.
Review 39:I did not get room with balcony.
Review 40:I have got exactly what I expected. Old, big postcommunist style hotel. It had all features I sought and was also clean and airconditioned. Since hotels are relatively expensive in Chisinau, this one was fairly priced.
Review 41:The lobby is right straight out of the 70's and is really old and tacky looking. But, having said that everything works.
Review 42:The people are very friendly and make an effort to be very accommodating. The rooms are vary basic but clean and many have small balconies where you can step outside.
Review 43:The location is useful for arrival and departure (halfway between the central bus and train stations), although for visiting the central street Stefan cel Mare and the central parks, it is a fair walk.
Review 44:The staff were absolutely super. I chatted to the friendly receptionists a lot.
Review 45:Breakfast is included in the room price, but don't expect high quality food.
Review 46:Very good location, close to train station, 5-10 minutes by bus or trolleybus to the city centre. Minibus 165 to the airport (30 min - 3MDL) stops next to the hotel. The hotel is a bit outdated, like from the 70s and 80s, but if you know what to expect, you won't be disappointed. And you can't beat the price: 530 MDL (apprx. 26EUR) per night for single room is a bargain. Wi-fi on the 5th floor was fast (although there were some stoppages for a few minutes from time to time.) They were very flexible, and allowed an early check-in (8 am) without paying extra.
Review 47:NO bad experiences.
Review 48:ALL Reception staff fantastic people and very friendly and courteous and did a great job. The greatest asset to the Hotel. Room staff great. Great job Breakfast really nice, fresh and great variety and lots.
Review 49:I was woken up by monotonous jungle music at about 4 am Sunday morning and the music carried on until 8 am. Also had the noise of hooting cars.
Review 50:The staff and the size of the rooms for the value of the price.
Review 51:With the exception of the reception desk, everything else about this hotel screamed of Soviet "hospitality". Most staff wouldn't give you the time of day, let alone do anything for you. The hotel itself is dark and depressing and in serious need of updating.
Review 52:The room was comfortable enough, although run down. The young ladies at reception were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was decent.
Review 53:Everything was perfect.
Review 54:Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. One of the most extensive free breakfasts I have ever found in a hotel, with both hot and cold options. Location is perfect.
Review 55:Nothing to complain about
Review 56:The staff were all warm, friendly and helpful. Language was not a barrier. Local transport links straightforward and efficient, and food fresh and inexpensive. The included breakfast was a veritable banquet.
Review 57:WiFI quality are poor in the room, in the lobby it is much more stronger. Refrigerator in the room is too noisy. (make sure to turn it off when you sleeping)
Review 58:The stuff and the service are excellent.(speaking vary good english) Breakfast is great. Room is comfortable, (make sure you ask for a room above the 10th floor not close to the elevator) hot water
Review 59:Yes, it is a bit old but it has character and everything Sems to work.
Review 60:Yes, they smoke in the lobby. I do too. Although I'm not a big smoker. I likef the lobby. The WiFi is always good and the drinks are cold. Plenty of others places to eat and drink in the shopping malls and don't forget the nearby flea market and railwaystation where there is a train waiting for you to bring you to Odessa.
Review 61:I like funky old hotels in general so the retro-Soviet feel of the place appealed to me. I enjoyed staying in a 70s-era hotel. The fixtures, etc were a bit tired-looking, yes, but I know what financial straits Moldova is in these days so I can overlook them.
Review 62:The staff was kind and helpful, the breakfast buffet nice and filling. The room was OK; liked the balcony although the crumbling concrete made me wonder how long I should stay on it. Only a few floors are in service apparently. The top few floors are out of action, likely due to money problems.
Review 63:Everyone in Moldova smokes like crazy. This is not the hotel's problem but the lobby and many of the main hallways had a smoke smell. My room was fine though.
Review 64:The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. The hotel is renovating but still has some old soviet charm. For a 3-star hotel I thought it was excellent though. This would be my first choice on a return visit to Chisinau.
Review 65:An extremely nice personal at the reception, very tasty pancakes with cheese - my favourites, so close to the center that it doesn't need to take a taxi or even public transport to come to the hotel.
Review 66:WiFi didn't work at all in the room.
Review 67:If arriving by train, the location is perfect. You can actually see the hotel when stepping out of the railway station. Staff very nice and friendly and helpful. Overall atmosphere very funky in a Soviet-Chic sense (I don't mean this in a rude way).
Review 68:the room smelled cigarette, but the good thing i had a balcony so kept the door open for fresh air.
Review 69:the ladies at the reception helped a lot for my passport stamp issue, organising local buses
Review 70:Wi-Fi remains a problem. Last year we stayed at the fifth floor, this year at the 10th and in both instances wi-fi was intermittent with frequent disconnections. It works perfectly in the hall on the ground floor.
Review 71:Very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, basic but sufficient facilities. We feel at home there.
Review 72:The hotel is quite basic and from the soviet era and it shows. But then again it did not disturb us.
Review 73:Excellent staff especially in the reception. Very good value for money. 24h lobby bar where you can buy drinks to your room. Wifi worked well.
Review 74:Nothing really. Please remember , Moldova is a developing country, the warmth and friendliness of everyone we encountered in Chisinau made this a memorable trip
Review 75:The staff where so helpful and so very friendly. No problem for ordering taxis, for giving us directions and also, I wanted to buy Moldovan football jersey, and one of the girls at reception organised for me to go to the stadium and get to the accounts branch to buy it. Id recommend this hotel for anyone staying In Chisinau
Review 76:I have stayed at the hotel a couple of times, and the level of service never stops surprising. This time I was upgraded to a suite when I arrived. Thanks to the excellent staff for making this hotel such a nice place to stay.
Review 79:Old hotel. bed was horrible
Review 80:The resepsonist was very nice and helpfull. this hotel is only 15 min walk to all the mayor resturants etc. Hotel is also close to train station
Review 81:I did not like the fact that I couldn't have stayed longer.
Review 82:I liked everything about this hotel from the Soviet architecture to all of the ladies at the front desk. Even the breakfast, although simple, it was satisfying, especially the corn flakes!
Review 83:Breakfast is not that extensive
Review 84:The staff is great, very friendly. Some rooms are decent, others are a bit old fashioned, but ok. Let's say Eastern Europe standard. We were offered the suite on the 16th Floor by the staff, in stead of 2 double rooms, which was great to stay
Review 85:Everything was wrong. Breakfast was a joke And prostitutes were always in the lobby bar.The equipment in the room was really old even when I changed my room. It was my last time at the cosmos.
Review 86:Only location
Review 87:- old furniture in the hotel and rooms as well - extremely poor breakfast - heating issues and the door from the balcony not opening
Review 88:+ located in the city center + the staff willing to help + good WiFi connection
Review 89:nothing was bad
Review 90:the staff amazing even took me to the football match ina taxi,,girl on front desk is encyclopedia(amazing) strong wifi great tv ,location for train the best and the best value in town, love the old russiann throwback style
Review 91:- not modern, but a flavour with nostalgia from the past - rooms inc. bathroom slightly worn out - balcony door sealing dropping when going out
Review 92:- friendly staff, peaceful inside i.e. not many visitors - limited, but for us adequate breakfast - 24 h lobby bar - staff performed extra change of bedlinen when requested - wifi worked fine
Review 93:Squeaky bed and breakfast leaves a lot to be desired !
Review 94:Good Location and friendly staff, reception speak English and hotel has working visa machine to pay for room
Review 95:Breakfast was not great.
Review 96:I like this place, it's good for a stop-over during a long journey. This is in no way a fancy Hotel, it definitely has the Soviet vibe about it. But it's very good value for money, everything is clean, the staff is very nice.
Review 97:Breakfast was adequate but not much variety
Review 98:Location, friendless and helpfulness of staff, many staff spoke English. I got upgraded to a small comfortable apartment.
Review 99:Poor insulation of windows, somewhat unpleasant bathroom smell
Review 100:Not a great hotel by any means, very soviet in style, but good value for money. Staff friendly and competent, breakfast ok, wifi mostly fine
Review 101:Ladies in reception very helpful, good breakfast. Try stuffed pancakes with potato, very good. Clean and comfort basic room. You can choose apartment room. Price little bit higher but room better.
Review 102:Location - close to the Train station and the centre of the city - easy walking distance to everywhere. Close to places to eat, bars and all the main sites. The hotel is a bit worn but the friendliness of the staff more than makes up for this. I'd definitely stay here again.
Review 103:Very blocky architecture. Vast number of staff in the lobby area but less than a third of them actually seemed to be doing anything useful.
Review 104:Welcoming and helpful reception, decent breakfast, very good location for airport bus and local trolley buses. Comfortable and clean bedrooms.
Review 105:1. Former soviet hotel has not been completely reconstructed yet for european style.
Review 106:1. Fast solution for any extra needs. 2. Very comfortable level of prices cpmparing with the others.
Review 107:Room was typically soviet - clean and comfortable but basic and in needof a refurb. WiFi worked but had kinda poor reception in the rooms.Overall - can't complain for the price
Review 108:Staff were extremly helpful, allowing me to check in very early andeven offering me a breakfast for that morning (that another guest hadskipped on).
Review 109:I cannot pay with credit card because the line was off!!!! The windows of three room I've seen were broken. The floor of the aisles was dusty... Very bad building...
Review 110:Central, easy parking
Review 111:spent a 20 days in this hotel and can honestly say it was a pleasure to be there..extremely helpful staff who dealt with everything with a smile... Go Cosmos Go...
Review 112:Pictures of the hotel show what it is like - a tad dated, the entrance lobby and reception is similar to the interior of a small bus station. The breakfast was OK at best. Non of these would stop me from staying again.
Review 113:Overall this hotel was very good value for money. The staff were very friendly. Location was great for the train station, a little walk into the heart of the town but nothing to complain about.
Review 114:Rooms a little dated but wasn't really a problem. Wi-Fi in room sometimes crashed but I always got a good connection in the lobby, so again was not a major issue.
Review 115:Good location, dealt with several receptionists and they all spoke good English. Useful bar/café in lobby, beer at reasonable prices.
Review 116:For me, the room was not clean enough. Some pieces of furniture seem to be a bit too old.
Review 117:The hotel is located near the center of the city. The staff is kind and helpful. The price is OK.
Review 118:It's very old Fashioned. I didn't have anything for the shower head to clip into, just a shower head that lead to the main tap that's it, so having a shower was tricky. Everything is old and looks Tired
Review 119:Location, in middle of the city. Good value for money, decent enough! It has air con and comfortable to sleep.
Review 120:Nothing I couldn't get over.
Review 121:Way past its sell by date reflected in the price but all staff despite the hours they worked couldn't be more helpful
Review 122:Wifi sometimes does not work or work slowly.
Review 123:Typical socialist realism type of hotel, so I advise it if you want to understand the communist past a bit....Very friendly staff, good breakfast, including typical pancakes with apples (bliny s jablokom) good location in the city centre (15 min to bus station, 10 min to railway station), enough of restaurants/shops around. Though located on frequented roundabout the isolation is ok and night sleep uninterrupted.
Review 124:Unbearable noise coming from the building behind the hotel all night long. I'm a sound sleeper and I was dead tired, but I still found it difficult to fall asleep. Fancy by USSR standards / Outdated by Western standards. On the map it looks closer to the city centre. Once you get there, you realise it can take you a 30-minute walk to get to the Cathedral Park.
Review 125:Easy to get to from the train station. Very helpful staff. Free Wi-Fi. Clean. Bottle opener included with the key (!!!). Allows you to travel back in time to the 70s at no charge.
Review 126:The Hotel Cosmos is not just a hotel, it takes you back in time to the decor and ambiance of the 1980s Soviet era. (Although the lovely staff may be friendlier than they were back then.) It is full of character and the huge reception area is peopled by characters. The rooms are large and spotless and have their own balconies. The hotel is very close to the main street as well as the train station. It's a wonderful place to stay.
Review 127:Terrible smell in bathroom. furniture is very old. Refrigerator in the room makes noise. it is not an easy thing to get to the parking.
Review 128:Fine location, nice staff. Free parking. Breakfast was good
Review 129:-Internet only worked properly near the door of the room.
Review 130:-The hotel met my expectations, it is just as advertised. -The Staff was friendly, they paid attention to my higher floor request -The room had a balcony which was nice -The hotel is in a central location with restaurants, markets etc. at 2-3 minutes walking distance
Review 131:the fridge has some bad smell because of power off for a long time , that is the only problem.
Review 132:location is close to train station. The staff is super nice, they prepare the breakfast 45mins ahead of the usual time for me, becasu I have to catch the early train. I love this hotel.
Review 133:No problem
Review 134:The hotel is in the city center . The staff are very friendlyand helpful, especially Irina and Anastasia.Breakfast is very Nice . I recommend Cosmos.
Review 135:In the heart of the city, the staff speak English well. They are very friendlyand helpful, especially Irina and Anastasia.Buffet Breakfast is satisfactory.
Review 136:Not much .. its an updated soviet style hotel clean reasonable comfort at a good price, everything worked, and staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast basic by western standards but still OK
Review 137:location good for Train Station, right side of town for airport and OK for the main city street. Clean , adequate room with ensuite and fridge. Quiet and receptionist really helpfull
Review 138:- Very poor Wi-Fi, to get an affordable signal you have to exit the room to the corridor - during my staying (July 13-14) the fridge was unbearably noisy (room 1024)
Review 139:- Location - Service - Good value for money
Review 140:If I had to choose anything... breakfast is ok but could be just a little better.
Review 141:Nice communist era hotel. The hotel breaths communism, but that makes it the perfect hotel. Staff are all but soviets. They are very very friendly and helpfull. Refurbished rooms and free wifi are a big plus. Just a nice walk away from trainstation and center, with two shoppingmalls next to is.
