Reviews for Royal Exchange Hotel
Review 1:Not to be pedantic, but the TV remote in Room 11 did not work properly. As well, rather bland bacon with overcooked eggs, not "over easy" as requested. Bacon was rubbery, tasteless and fatty. No doubt a one-off that day.
Review 2:Great staff, very comfortable hotel, well maintained. Highly recommended.
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:The refurbishment of this beautiful hotel is spot on and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is also very good and it's so nice to be able to have a lovely meal in house.
Review 5:The shower is over the bath and for the mature the step into the bath is somewaht difficult and potentially dangerous. There is no lift.
Review 6:Magnificent building.
Review 7:Noisy group on balcony till 1am. A group of 12 meant we couldn't eat there. Staff were polite but not friendly. No parking.
Review 8:Beautiful building and comfortable beds. Great deep bath.
Review 9:The bed was very comfortable and the room, though not large, was pleasant. Bathroom was good. We loved the beautifully renovated Art Deco interiors especially in the lounge/dining area where the two big fires added warmth and atmosphere. The food at the restaurant was good too, staff really good. Would stay again.

Review 14:Room 22, although O.K. for a couple of nights, it is quite cramped, with not enough space to put travel gear, hang and stow clothes, or even prepare coffee or a snack.
Review 15:Clean, quiet, smart décor, well presented. Location was ideal for me.
Review 16:Sadly, we arrived on a Sunday and the restaurant closes on a Sunday and Monday, the only 2 nights we were there! However this gave us an opportunity to get out and try other hotels and we were not disappointed.
Review 17:Charming old hotel purely for accommodation. Our room had access to the rap around balcony. The bed was so comfortable, I didnt want to leave. Well appointed room, with period furniture. There is a lot to like about this hotel.

Review 19:Balcony is great! Room comfortable, clean and furnishings and fittings are in the period of the hotel.

Review 22:Unfortunately the service in the restaurant was straight from Faulty Towers.
Review 23:Great old style hotel good facilities. Good food in the restaurant when it turned up.

Review 70:The central location was excellent with an old worldly charm.
Review 71:The yesteryear luxuries. The fires, gracious lounges, genuine good old time service with a smile. The Art Deco decor must be preserved as it is unique. Thank you for a lovely visit.
Review 72:Room was very comfortable and good size - it was away from the street and very quiet. Visited restaurant twice - excellent food, good value. Staff were friendly and low key. Would definitely stay again.
Review 73:That there simply was not enough space , I found myself having to sit things on the toilet & the same in bedroom , nowhere to sit anything , was a huge bed necessary ? I went to boil the kettle & ended up doing that on the very small vanity , as for the case , kept tripping over it !
Review 74:Nice & central , nicely furnished & extremely quiet
Review 75:This time we had a chance to go to the dining room for dinner, and it was excellent - food was seriously good, the atmosphere was great with a pianist - who played non-intrusive music, and of course the art deco style of the building makes the restaurant an absolute delight, and on top of that Jo is so helpful and caring to all her guests.
Review 76:Room very small and hardly a place for our suitcases, but still a nice stay.
Review 77:Erin who checked us in was most friendly and helpful when we didn't like the first room offered as it was dark and only had one small window looking at an adjoining wall. We stayed for 2 nights so were most grateful for her understanding. Our new room was comfortable - although small, and had 2 windows and lots of natural light. The hotel is lovely with all the old features like high ceilings and wonderful upholstery and furnishings. Beautifully decorated. Modern air con in room which was wonderful.Lovely lounge downstairs - disappointed the fire wasn't lit.
Review 78:Would like a make-up mirror in bathroom - lighting is a little dim. No full length mirror in room/ wardrobe

Review 81:The staff were extremely obliging- arrived late after the office closed but this was not an issue.
Review 82:Could not have stayed in dark internal room, which also had an unpleasant odour. Shower over slippery bath may prove difficult for older people or those with limited mobility. No dedicated off street parking.
Review 83:Booked standard room which was small, dark, and with no external view. Upgraded to deluxe room for $15 a night which had access to verandah and street view and was also considerably larger. Room was well equipped, comfortable and very clean. Location was excellent and public areas very attractive, although lacked atmosphere as they were deserted.
