Reviews for Himeji 588 Guest House
Review 1:If you sleep in the mixed dorm definitely sleep in the bottom covered futons, as the light for this room is kept on all night for easy navigation. Not too big of a bother, though.
Review 2:The staff was super friendly and offered some good recommendations ^^
Review 3:The private room was very basic and you could hear everything as door and internal window were made of paper. There were only two toilets and showers for the whole guesthouse. Therefore, we felt it was overpriced.
Review 4:Friendly and helpful staff. Other guests were also friendly.
Review 5:Only minus is that the guest house were closed until 16.00. Luckily, they could take care of my bag for me at the castle.
Review 6:It really felt like coming home and the staff were great! Nice pöace that were close to both the castle and the station.
Review 7:Owner and staff are very unfriendly . Urine on the toilet floor. No running hot water where you brush your teeth. Room was too cold even with heating switched on. Having to call the owner of you wanted to go out after 10am, very inconvenient.
Review 8:It's within walking distance of the Himeji JR station. Near Miyukidoori, Piore shopping mall, etc.. Walking distance to Himeji Castle. Price per night is good.
Review 9:Great location between the train station and the Castle, on the arcade. They have one of those tables with heating under the blanket, nice and cozy. People working there at the time were very friendly.
Review 10:Far too narrow. The dorm room sqeeze in two more beds then usual.
Review 11:staff and owner are very friendly and willing to help. Clean. Just next to Himejijou.
Review 12:Be aware of the opening times. The hostel is closed between noon and 4pm with no option to drop bags.
Review 13:Friendly staff, really close to Himeji castle, 10 minutes walk from the station, good shower and comfy beds.
Review 14:Pillows were not comfortable. It could be less pricy.
Review 15:The location is great, near to Himeji castle, near to train station and just in the middle of market. Staff was very nice. It was clean.
Review 16:On the first night the fellow guests stayed up until after midnight being very loud. The next night was better. If this was more of a party hotel it should be made more clear on the web. I think guests should be asked to be respectful of others after 10pm.
Review 17:Location and room.
Review 18:The inside is pretty old, the laundry machine a bit scary and hard to use
Review 19:The staff, the location, the common room, the small sofa outside for the smokers, the futon bed.
Review 20:Very poorly equipped guesthouse, without any life. The owner of the guesthouse was not present in the guesthouse during most of my stay and when she was there, she was not very talkative/friendly. Very noisy and badly isolated. It is very expensive for what you get. And this expensive price does not even include a towel (you have to pay 100¥ to rent one)!!! It is so greedy!
Review 21:Localization close to the castle and the JR station
Review 22:The staff were very friendly and gave recommendations for places to visit nearby. We were gently encouraged to go to bed after midnight :) I had the opportunity to talk with our hosts and other guests and hear their interesting experiences in Japan.
Review 23:Narrow stairs, Kitchen unusable, the mattress of the bunk bed is a tatami (like almost all others hostel), you can't to leave your luggage after the 15PM, small room, light off at the midnight in the common area
Review 24:Easy to find, Friendly staff, near Himeji castle, complimentary shampoo/gel shower, bed with curtain/lamp/socket, locker for valuable, common area with socket, tv, sofa, small table, Free Coffee/Tea
Review 25:Late check-in of 4pm, and not even being able to drop my bags off before as it's un-staffed and locked until then. Could have been a little more clean and tidy.
Review 26:Nice central location to castle, shops and station
Review 27:The only bad thing is the check in timing. I arrived early (2pm) because of the weather condition from Kyoto but I can only check in at 4pm. Also, I'm OK with the thickness of the futon but someone with a bad back might not be OK with it.
Review 28:The staffs are friendly, the place is easy to find, it's also clean. The place to sleep is pretty small but it's comfortable enough for me. I'm pretty satisfy with my stay there.
Review 29:Luggage could be stored and picked up until 15:00, other than that, no guests were allowed inside the building between 10:00 and 16:00, not even for checking mails via wifi etc.
Review 30:Great location. It's at the end of the shopping arcade that starts right outside the station making it easy to stay out of the sun or rain when walking to and from the station. It also makes it convenient for eating and shopping. The castle is within a 5-7 min walk from the guesthouse.
Review 31:The rooms are tiny but it is expected.
Review 32:The staff is really nice and helpful. The entire accommodation is very clean and tidy. Strongly advice youths travelling with several friends to stay there overnight.
Review 33:The hostel is located in a shopping street, a block away from the castle which makes it an excellent and convenient base for sight seeing. Food are easy to find, as well as presents and souvenirs. The hostel is owned and ran by an absolutely lovely lady, Kyoko. She was very nice and accommodating to guests' need. I was rather unhealthy during my stay and she really paid attention to my condition.
Review 34:The 4pm check-in is a little late...there really is no-one there until 4...everywhere else was by 3pm.
Review 35:Friendly and fun. Walk to castle and train. Under cover street.
Review 36:I was staying alone in the big dorm, it was a bit creepy. It's in a traditional room just under the roof.
Review 37:Very close to the castle Friendly service Nice common area Limited opening hours, but baggage deposit possible.
Review 38:We think that it is a bit overpriced for the private room.
Review 39:Location, although was hard to find at first because we were not familiar with the city, but it is in the neighbourhood of the main market and super close to the castle. Actually if you got off the station, walk straight direction castle you will see the markets on your right. You can walk through the market, still directing to the castle, you will find the hostel on your right. It is just like one of the 'shops' there.
Review 40:staffs are really friendly to us and helpful with all our needs! and old structure of the house is beautiful. you can feel the air flow in and out. really nice. and it's only 5 minutes walk to the himeji castle!
Review 41:no proper kitchen door closed and not allowed to stay inside during the day (11am to 4pm)
Review 42:location near the castle and on the main shopping street friendly staff
Review 43:I enjoy the privacy curtains many of the Japanese hostels have. This one was no exception. While you are in a room with up to 7 other people, you have your own private space. The facilities were good and clean. The staff were nice and assisted with good knowledge of places to go, places to eat and things to see. I didn't have a problem with taking my 14 year old.
Review 44:There was one rather strange thing about this place - check out time - 10:00 am - which can be obviously understood if only leaving rooms/dorms is considered but it refereed to guest house premises.
Review 45:the guest house itself is small and with friendly atmosphere. The staff is open and helpful.
Review 46:Alcohol at the bar was expensive but there are other bars close by
Review 47:The staff were friendly and the facilities were clean. The bunks provided a surprising amount of comfort and privacy for a great value. The location is unbearable. It's on a nice part of a shopping street barely ten minutes walk from the castle and the train station.
Review 48:it was dirty, no lock on private room, toilet and shower facilities were not on the same level and were unclean, pictures and information on the internet very misleading. Not good value for money.
Review 49:The location to Himeji Castle
Review 50:Check-in starts at 16.00 and if the staff is not around it is not even possible to leave the luggage.
Review 51:Nice and cosy place with friendly staff. A few minutes away from the train station and Himeji castle.
Review 52:You don't have a lot of choice in Himeji when it comes to hostels, being a small city. But this place is good as it's just a 5 minute walk to Himeji Castle grounds. You have eateries next door and plenty of shopping nearby. The staff speak English and were helpful during my stay. It's fairly new -- and small -- so they don't have a whole lot of beds. Still, like I said, not a whole lot of choice in Himeji.
Review 53:You can't stay in the hostel from 10 am to 4 pm. In my opinion that's too long, so you are kind of forced to go out. You can't use the kitchen even though it's there :(
Review 54:staff is nice
Review 55:Some guests stayed up drinking beer till midnight, others came in at 2:30am and woke most others. We did not get any more sleep... In the morning some were really pretty inconsiderate of others. Maybe a curfew could help... Or some sound proofing. Futons were ridiculously thin and consequently pretty useless.
Review 56:nice n close to Castle, the girls that run the place were very, very nice. Helpful and easygoing. Made the rules clear.
Review 57:It was really cold. Pee on the toilet floor.
Review 58:I met generous people there. Offered us drink. It is really close to many things, restaurant, shops. Few steps from the himeji castle.
Review 59:The guesthouse are required to go out from 10 am till 4pm even those on an extended stay
Review 60:Location, location, and location Staff are very nice Ms. Kyoko and Misato
Review 61:We had the only twin room available which was a bit small. We couldn't really fit the two futons on the floor.
Review 62:The staff was really nice and helpful. We arrived before the check in and the staff allowed us to put our baggage in the guest house. The guest house is only a ten minutes walk to Himeji Castle.
Review 63:No kitchen and no kitchenfacillities You have to leave the hostel from 10am to 4pm, you can not stay there at daytime Just a small public area
Review 64:Big bed Central area Friendly staff
Review 65:Our host was a very open and likable person, we had a super conversation together in the evening. We were just passing by in Himeji, and it was an excellent adresse just in between the castel and the station.
Review 66:Be aware it’s a guest house, not a hotel. Every sound can be heard at any time everywhere in the house. For a little bit more money you’ll get at other places private toilette/shower … The twin room in this grotty place was not worth the money.
Review 67:location
Review 68:a bit difficult to find; it is in a shopping arcade!
Review 69:great location very friendly hosts clean and comfortable We had the separate double room which was great
Review 70:The place is horrible. It's very small, very badly maintained, dirty, the girl who works there can't speak any english. Worst place I sow in years. Only after check in we realized how bad the place is and that we can't stay there. The stuff refused to give us back the money we just payed in cash. It's not a big sum, but it's too expansive for what you gonna get there. Eventually we spent the night at some other hotel. Don't even come near this place!
Review 71:Nothing
Review 72:Tiny place, bad smell, dirty and unpleasnt kitchen (its more like a counter with all the dishes on it with no place to put anything). Beds and sheets look very old and kind of disgusting to touch and sleep. bed bugs. The hostel reception girl doesn't speak any english not recommended
Review 73:, good atmosphere with the other guests. Good location
Review 74:Nothing.
Review 75:The staff are absolutely amazing. So kind and helpful. It's about 20min for east exit of station and 6min walk to himeji castle if that. Loved this place.
Review 76:The kitchin is small but If you don't cook, never mind. It is also based on a shopping street cos you can get food and find resturant. キッチンが手狭でしたが、料理を作らなかったので、洗い物だけであれば事足りると思います。 商店街の中にゲストハウスがあるので、食事どころやスーパーなどをすぐ探すことができます。
Review 77:Kyokosan and staff are very friendly. They are nice person. I had warm reception,Thank you very much. This place is easy to find. It is one straight road from Himeji JR station and it is also very close to Himeji castle. The wifi is everywhere that give to pass. about security,The police box is opposite side. If you try to communicate(talk) with some people,Himeji 588 Guest house is good place!
Review 78:The use of available facilities (such as the communal fridge) wasn't explained as well as it could have been.
Review 79:Good atmosphere with the other guests.
Review 80:With this price, you can hardly find anywhere better than this hostel. Super kind and helpful staff, extremely good location (right on the way between the station and the castle, in the heart of the shopping street - what else should we demand for a better location???).
Review 81:Check-in time is 04:00 pm and you are not able to get inside even 1 minute earlier. But they are nice enough to let you drop off your luggage and backpack. It is very annoying when you have spent 5 hours at Kansai International Airport until the first train depart to Himeji. Just imagine, you arrive Himeji at 10:00 am then you have to wait another 6 hours to get inside the house and take a bath etc. You will be extremely exhausted, sweaty, sticky, etc. It would be nice if they let you at least to take a bath and refreshing, since the bathrooms are located downstairs and the dorm rooms are upstairs.
Review 82:The guesthouse is located in a perfect location. It is located right in the middle of shopping center, easy access to gift shops and restaurants, walk out the door and you are there! Walking distance to JR Train Station and most important the glorious Himeji Castle!

Review 112:being rushed out
Review 113:Friendly staff, good location
Review 114:Very near to Himeji Castle (not even 5 minutes away), comfy and nice looking clean room, sweet interior and staff.

Review 116:Its a small property, with super thin walls and you hear everything that goes on in the rest of the facility.
Review 117:Good location and friendly staff
Review 118:Staff Location is pretty good Very recommended
Review 119:The wifi in the annex room didn't work.
Review 120:Kyoko is a kind host.
Review 121:The room consists of wood beds literally and looks shabby
