Reviews for Sottocoperta
Review 1:Location is perfect to hop on the trains or go for walks in the Cinque Terre. The rooms were very nicely rennovated and included a water boiler to make coffee and tea. Riomaggiore tends to have a bit more expensive restaurants compared to the other towns of the Cinque Terre so that was not perfect for a family with kids, but we made it work all the same.
Review 2:Not so good view
Review 3:It's really close from Rio Maggiore train station. It's a nice small pretty room. Very clean and modern facilities =) We wish we could have better view but it was comfortable enough. (*There is no elevator in all hotels in Cinque Terre. The room is in 2nd floor so it was okay to clim up with luggages for us. )
Review 4:It's worth noting the hotel has a very steep, narrow staircase. This was not a problem and was just fine for us, but travelers should just be aware of the configuration. Cinque Terre as a whole has many steep, narrow staircases so set your expectations accordingly and enjoy the charm of this amazing region!
Review 5:Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, especially with local restaurant recommendations. The location was perfect for exploring Cinque Terre.
Review 6:Little hard to find. No tea and coffee making facilities. Nop lift so 4 flights of stairs. No breakfast meals but lucky shops open to buy provisions.
Review 7:Room was spacious, bed was good. WIFI good. Bathroom was very good and modern. Very good location only 50 m from train station.
Review 8:The flight of stairs to the room was very steep. Luckily the host helped me with my luggage but I had to carry them down when I check out. The shower arm mount was loose and I couldn't shower hands free.
Review 9:The room is pleasant and spacious. The check-in was hassle free and the host was kind to recommend some nice restaurants around the area.
Review 10:There is no separation between the toilette and the room, just a sliding door wich doesn't isolate noises or anything. No privacy. The same happens with the rooms next by. You can hear absolutly everything that's happening in the other side. And by everything, I mean EVERYTHING. Not only the check out is too early, at 10 am, but also the front desk man appears knocking your door few minutes before 10 am, to ask you if you are ready to go. I consider this a lack of taste and education with the clients.
Review 11:Excellent location, in the main street of the town. The marina, bars and restaurants very close walking. Nice typical building of the italian coast, and the rooms were modern.
Review 12:Stayed here for one night. Really good location and the owner and his wife both met us downstairs. They will need to know what time you will arrive so they can let you in. Lovely owners who gave us a map and a run down about the yrails and some suggestions where to eat.
Review 13:Location was superb and the check in process was easy and quick. The room was easy to find and near everything in Riamaggiore including the ferry and train.
Review 14:This is the perfect location for exploring cinque Terre. Very close to things to do and the train station and ferry station. And the room was so cute!!!!!
Review 15:Some may find the fights of stairs very steep and difficult with luggage. It can be a little noisy due to the location.
Review 16:Beautiful room has a very nice feel about it. Sara the owner is just lovely and extremely helpful. We arrived early but she stopped to assist us with local information, offered us a shower she was just lovely. Great location in the Main Street. Tea/ Coffee facilities plus a mini fridge in the room.
Review 17:Narrow flight of stairs, irregular and dimly lit. Location over a takeway restaurant, blasting loud music much of the day, unnecessarily, the only business on the main street to do so. Too much money for no breakfast, and these problems, even though we had the cheapest room. Advertised mountain view from our room was just a fairly small part of mountain behind the street.
Review 18:Good location, near the harbor Helpful owner with much information about transportation to other villages, and trail closures.
Review 19:There is a bar beside the property that blasts terrible top 40s music from the morning till late. One night, a group of revellers gathered at the bench opposite the bar and sang and made merry until 1am. Avoid if you're a light sleeper.
Review 20:It was near the station so we didn't have to lug our luggages up the steep slope of Riomaggiore.
Review 21:The hotel is well located, a few minutes walk from the station. The room was cosy, wide, comfortable and had all the utilities that we needed for our stay, included fast wifi. Andrea was very kind and helpful. My highest recommendations!
Review 22:the stairs are somehow hard to climb up and down especially with a luggage.
Review 23:Almost nothing to complain. We contact the owner in advance and it turns out my check in time is too late for them to wait. But they email us a very clear instruction on how to find the room and our keys, so it worked for us very smooth.
Review 24:Hotel is above a very popular fried fish restaurant an FYI item Balcony was not an added benefit to the room ( restaurant)
Review 25:Central location Very clean Great owner/ staff
Review 26:The room is very pretty, clean and comfortable. It's build in with private shower room. There are some tea, coffee and hot chocolate offered. Very nice!!!
Review 27:Just be warned that you need to leave your heavy bags in Monterosso or similar, and take a backpack, as there are stairs everywhere in Cinque Terre, including getting up to this lovely room from the front door.
Review 28:The location was fantastic with lots of eating shops nearby. The furnishings were very modern and Andrea was extremely helpful in explaining how to get around. Excellent room price compared to say, Monterosso, and a lovely spot to stay for a few days whilst checking out the rest of Cinque Terre.
Review 29:If you are a light sleeper consider using some ear plugs as the music from the pizzeria downstairs is very audible till lateish at night.
Review 30:Very chic and spacious room in the heart of Riomaggiore!! Ultra modern decor and very friendly owner.
Review 31:The stairs - everything else was perfect
Review 32:It was a lovely room they have done a fantastic job decorating it - it was the stairs up for me that was the downside but lovely property
Review 33:The stairs, there are lots of stairs to get up to the apartment... but a little exercise never hurt anybody :)
Review 34:The location was perfect, right on the main strip, 200m from the train station. The apartment is gorgeous, nice and clean and crisp and surrounded by restaurants + shops. The wifi was SO fast, the best wifi we've had while travelling. The staff is very friendly, Andrea was a huge help, when we checked in he gave us a few tips on where to eat and how to get to the ferry if we wanted to visit the other 4 towns.
Review 35:Negotiating stairs with bags tricky, but Andrea owner lovely and helped us if lift would be 10 out of 10 value for money very clean modern.
Review 36:Lovely room bit of noise from street below but minimal beautiful place
Review 37:We were very disappointed with the lack if cleanliness of the room. Hair all over the toilet, dirty floors and no soap, or shampoo provided. No on-site staff to clean or express concerns with. Hard to believe we spent so many euro on a filthy room. During 3 weeks touring Italy this was our biggest disappointment. Sheets were done after day one but nothing else. Also there wasn't even a coffee pot/machine which we had at all other locations we stayed at. Also, the balcony overlooked garbage so it's probably by worth it.
Review 38:The man who met us went out of his way to help us park out car and carry our bag. That was outstanding. The location is ok-pretty central. He was kind but we never saw him after the day we arrived.
Review 39:It's hard to imagine such a great room is inside this unassuming looking building. The owners came and met us even tho we were later then expected and were very helpful.
Review 40:It can get a bit noisy at night but that didn't bother me but it might bother someone who is a light sleeper.
Review 41:Our stay at Sottocoperta was perfect. It's not far from the train station and is only around 50 metres up the hill. Sottocoperta only has three rooms, we stayed in the Gozzo room. It was a bit noisy at night but we found it easy enough to fall asleep. The rooms all have air-conditioning, which was great for cooling off. I would highly recommend staying at Sottocoperta!
Review 42:Be aware that the room is up 3 to 4 flights of steep stairs. There is a balcony, but it overlooks the rather dingy small interior "courtyard" of an old complex of buildings. However, the buildings are part of the historic portion of the village and considering the restrictions, the room itself is very nice.
Review 43:Helpful, efficient staff (carried our heaviest bag up several flights of stairs). Great location. Clean, comfortable room with air conditioning.
Review 44:Great location right in the centre of riomaggiore. A 5 minute walk to the train station and small harbour. Good facilities in a clean room overlooking the main street. There are lots of stairs to get to the rooms, Andreas was very helpful on checkin.
Review 45:Nothing.
Review 46:Location was perfect for the start of my honeymoon right in the very centre of Riomaggiore. Bright, fresh, modern and very clean room and facilities. Davide who met us upon arrival was incredibly helpful in advising us where to go and how to get there etc.
Review 47:Because we stayed 3 nights we thought they may have provided more instant coffee. We were caught short as we thought there would have been shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided like they do in hotels.
Review 48:When we arrived we were met by the owners to book us in. They gave us information that would help us during our stay. The room was so clean and fresh.
Review 49:The bed was really bad, had to put the Donna under ther bottom sheet for a bit of comfort, the stairs were hard work also, but you have to expect stairs in a place like that.
Review 50:We like being right in the middle of Riomiggiore you came down the stairs & you were in the thick of it Loved the ferry that took you from town to town, the food was great, as long as you like seafood, & pasta & pizza, oh & the fresh a anchovie were beautiful, we did, we said we would be going home healthy.
Review 51:The property is on the main drag and very noisy because of the activity on the street. The value would have been better if breakfast had been included.
Review 52:The room was clean and comfortable. It's located right I. The heart of Riomaggiore.
Review 53:I did have to wait an hour before I could check in to my room, even though I arrived within the listed check in time.
Review 54:The location is great, right on the main street.
Review 55:We loved everything. Lovely, big room, exellent service, thanks Andreina. Location was perfect. Really amazing! Whole Cinque terre and Riomaggiore is not a choise for people who are not able to walk and climb.
Review 56:Sarah was very friendly and helpful. She volunteered her husband to carry our two very heavy suitcases up to our room. The room is spacious and comfortable. The location in the heart of Riomaggiore is very good.
Review 57:No receptionist (there is a sign in front of the door to direct to a certain place and ring a bell) Steep staircases but it is generally the case for hotels in Cinque Terre, luckily we were prepared and left our big luggage in La Spezia Centrale.
Review 58:Very nice and sweet decoration Spacious bathroom High speed wifi Within a short distance to train station and marina A lot of restaurants around Near supermarket (coop) Easy and quick
Review 59:5mins walk from train station, surrounded by plenty of good restaurants, less than 5 mins walk to the priceless scenery of Cinque Terre. Strongly recommended!
Review 60:Balcony is basically in an alley, staff did not meet outside like planned but did meet us down the block which was fine.
Review 61:Great wifi (best I've had); PERFECT location, very clean, towel warmer and steam shower.
Review 62:Do not be put off by the entrance. The doorway and the rather austere stairs do not represent what you will find at the top. Only criticism .. please supply some milk for the tea !!
Review 63:Perfect location. Lovely host. Clean and modern room with lovely little balcony. Simple but very well thought out room. Selection of coffee and tea, kettle and small refrigerator in room. Fantastic modern bathroom. I thought I may have left my glasses in the room and the hosts took the trouble to look and e-mail me. Great value for money in an expensive area to stay.
Review 64:1)the check in was in another place 2)stairs 3)the bar downstairs and the smell of fried foods down stairs
Review 65:great location spacious room good bathroom comfortable bed friendly staff price is good
Review 66:There are many stairs to the rooms, but nothing to do for that in Cinque Terre.
Review 67:Clean, comfortable rooms. The view from the window just looks at the beautiful street of Riomaggiore. Also there is a chance to leave your luggage.
Review 68:46 steps that were uneven in height with railing only half way up. If you are unsteady on your feet, proceed with caution.
Review 69:Price, cleanliness, convenience to everything, premises recently renovated
Review 70:The manager was very quick to meet us at the hotel, and show us to our room. Although it was a lot of stairs, it would be the same anywhere in Riomaggiore. The room was very nice & bright.
Review 71:- Empty fridge, it would be a nice touch to add 1 or 2 bottles of water even from tap. Not a complain, though, just a recommendation! Place is perfect!
Review 72:- Furniture/Decoration - Friendliness of staff - Location - WiFi
Review 73:Double bed was 2 single beds together. Slightly hard to find if you don't know to look closely. We went during the off season so I don't know if that impacted the village but there weren't many places open to eat.
Review 74:Very nice room and size. Sarah was very nice, friendly ans helpful!
Review 75:The room was fresh and modern in design. We had everything we needed within the unit and the restaurants ,superrette, bakery and coffee shop were just down stairs within ten metres or so.
Review 76:Climbing the stairs to our room was a challenge, especially for my mom who has slight walking difficulties.
Review 77:Sarah was excellent, she met us in the station, despite us missing a couple of trains and making her wait...She gave wonderful restaurant recommendations and made us feel right at home
Review 78:Lots of stairs to go up to the room. We had to call the owner on arrival to be able to enter the room.
Review 79:Design of the room, excellent wi-fi, in the middle of Riomaggiore close to train station.
Review 80:No elevator made me quite tired to take our biiiiiiig suite case upstairs
Review 81:The staff was friendly. The location is quite easy to find. Clean. In general, it's a good place to stay
Review 82:Need to climb 2 stories up the narrow stairs but understandable because we are in Cinque Terre!
Review 83:Nice newly renovated room. Bathroom was clean and spacious.Good wifi. Very informative and helpful lady that checked us in, gave us all the information we need to explore the 5 Terre. All in all very good.
Review 84:good location,on the main street of riomaggiore, rooms verry nice, stylish and good quality decorated.Sottocoperta is nicer than in the pictures :) easy check-in and friendly staff
Review 85:Street noise may bother really light sleepers, but it was fine for us.
Review 86:The room was recently refinished and beautiful. There was a bit of street noise, but we slept fine. The owner helps to carry your bags up and offers a locked closet to keep them after checkout if desired. The location couldn't be better. Very close to the marina and on the main street. We really enjoyed riomaggiore and were glad we stayed there as the train and water shuttle were easily accessible to go to other towns. Trains and the boat don't stop at other towns as regularly.
Review 87:Loved this little unit in the heart of Riomaggiore. Few steps but you won't avoid steps anywhere really. Bed was comfy, room was spacious and windows looked over the main street of the village village. Bit of a smell from the restaurant downstairs but adds to the little village feel. Great restaurant right across the street!
Review 88:Couldn't get closer to the middle of town, very close to train station. Very helpful owner, carried my bag up the stairs like it weighed nothing. Room was modern, spacious and comfy. We wished we could have stayed longer!
Review 89:Nothing really, but there was a hot plate and variety of teas in the room, but no coffee.
Review 90:Very helpful owner who helped with suggestions for dinner, and was flexible about check in and check out times.
Review 91:During the unfortunate train strike on 21 Sept, we could not easily travel from Pisa to Sottocoperta. Owner was very responsive to our emails, offered to pick us up at La Spezie (which we declined) and met us at 22:30 on the main street to help us check in. She was very understanding and helpful.
Review 92:The room s on the upper floor without elevator
Review 93:It locates near the train station, coast and business area. Very nice and clean room with amentities. Good staff
Review 94:There were some steep stairs to get up to the room. The locks and doors were quite noisy when others in the neighboring rooms came or left.
Review 95:Just a short walk from the train station, and only a block from the sea. Nice restaurants and shops right outside the guesthouse. AC worked well - very modern room! Sara was accommodating and helpful to us - she speaks English very well!
Review 96:44 steps to get to the room. We are in our 70's and we could hardly make it up the steps. Steep and narrow. Especially after walking all over the. Cinque Terre. Staff carried our luggage up and down for us.
Review 97:Very clean but did not bring fresh towels and no soap in room.
Review 98:Travel light as there are many steps up to the room, (but that is the charm of Riomaggiore).
Review 99:Clean and modern accommodations. Fast WiFi connection. Private interior room by main street of village so it was a quiet and peaceful experience.
Review 100:My husband and I stayed two nights here, and we were so lucky to find the place, as there is currently not much info online about it. The reason for this is because they have just opened recently. The owner, Sara, has put a lot of hard work into the place to make it nice. The rooms are beautiful! Also the price is incredible, especially for the area. The best part though, is that Sara is the most lovely and helpful person. She came to meet us at the entrance and helped us carry our bags all the way up the hill (from the entrance to Riomaggiore town) and up the stairs to our room. She also helped us with parking and went in the car with us to lead us to the best location. Then she stayed over an hour and a half with us, helping with our train tickets that we were trying to figure out how to purchase online, and other issues we were having with our travel. My only regret is that since we had to leave so early upon check out, we did not get to say goodbye!
Review 101:The staff is very helpful and nice. She pointed out the best way to travel trough those five villages and gave us very useful map. The room is clean and big. Strongly recommend.
Review 102:No hotel name at the address 45 steep steps up to the room- no lift didnot take credit cards right above main street - loud with people untilwell after midnight, then the garbage trucks at 6 am, then the deliverytrucks at 7am tv didn't work bed - very hard mattress desktop, drawers and headboard just recently made out of cheap wood - somepainted, some not.Sorry, not the quality I expect from booking.com
Review 103:Sara, the owner was very nice and helpful.
Review 104:The area is crowded cause in the very center. At night there's some noise coming from the street but just before midnight.
Review 105:The perfect place to stay in magical Riomaggiore. Close to the railway staton, port, restaurants and shop, our room was very nice and clean, recenty restored and very comfortable. Just downstairs there's a fresh seafood bar and the center of the village. Andrea, the owner, was very kind and suggested us what to visit and where to enjoy amazing local food. We will come back soon to Sottocoperta :)
Review 106:Having to leave!
Review 107:New & beautiful bright rooms. Ours had a fridge and a small pot to boil water for tea/coffee. Bathroom was great. There was also a line to hang washing under the window. Location was perfect! I don't think you could get better. 3-5 min walk from train station, it's located on the Main Street in Riomaggiore with 2 x grocery stores and many restaraunts and take away places in the same street. Also 1-2 min walk to a beach and small marina. Riomaggiore was our favourite of the 5 towns, it's less busy and just as beautiful if not more so than Manorola and Monteroso. Locals are friendly and Sara the owner was so lovely and friendly. I would highly recommend and definitely stay here again!
Review 108:Nothing to complain about....we enjoyed our stay.
Review 109:Our family enjoyed our 1-night stay at Sottocoperta. It was supposed to be for 2-nights, but we wanted to venture off and see all 5 villages. Though there was a lot of steps, the apartment was awesome. Everything looked very new. Location was perfect, as there were a lot of places to eat. Grocery store, bars, gelato, fried calamari, etc. The train station is about 5 minutes away and not to forget to mention a easy stroll to the boat harbor. We are looking forward to our next trip and will definitely stay here again. And as a guest, she was nice to hold our luggage as we ventured off to see the other villages.
Review 110:We were met by the owner I think and where taken to another address 178 via Colombo up some very steep stairs that smelled old and damp we where shown the room which was clean and recently renovated but it still smelled dank it had no window just some small vents we felt claustrophobic the aircon wasn't effective the fridge couldn't keep a bottle of milk cold there was no wifi we were told to go and find some wifi in the street in summary we would not recommend this room to anyone
Review 111:It is a good location close to the train station
Review 112:Riomaggiore is very busy with tourists and as a result it is simply overcrowded at times. The main problem we found was the fact that the rubbish bins were overflowing and smelly, this is very off putting. However this has no reflection on our accommodation at all.
Review 113:the room was lovely, newly decorated clean and comfortable. Bathroom was very modern and shower efficient. Great experience to stay in one of the traditional cinqe terra buildings, despite having to climb 44 steps to our room. Riomaggiore is a very busy place but once the windows were closed it was quiet enough to sleep well. Good air conditioning too.
Review 114:Cash only despite pre-booking.
Review 115:The price was great; the manager ran to meet us at the door from his apartment. The room is comfortable with a big bathroom.
Review 116:The room their was no negatives only positive. Be careful of the coffee shops in the street where you sit. They are very expensive 4euro for a coffee better to go to the little shops inside buildings
Review 117:The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The location was perfect and the charm was what we loved the most. Could see what it must have felt to have been a part of this town in the 1500. This place should not be missed and the owners go out of their way to help you
Review 118:There is a bit of noise as it looks right over the main street, but that's also the charm of it, and it's quiet during sleeping hours. Just loved it. Highly recommend it.
Review 119:Location just off the marina and train tunnel entrance as you walk into town. Very new, beautifully furnished. Wifi worked great, a/c was great, just lovely
Review 120:We didn't not like anything, but being international travelers we didn't have a phone that worked so we had to find a phone, lucky there was a lovely lady next door who let us use her phone to contact the owners to check in!
Review 121:It was an awesome location right in town and near train station. So clean and fresh for what you pay! Owners are so lovely and helpful and just make you feel so welcome! Just awesome overall, would defiantly stay there again.
Review 122:In Italy, everything is hard to find... These rooms are not attached to a hotel so when you arrive you'll need to call the owner (ph number is on a sign) or visit the foccacia store down below like we did and ask them to call the owner. She'll arrive in less than five minutes and let you in. This is only a slight inconvenience is truly the only tiny complaint that I could I think of.
Review 123:My wife and I arrived with another couple and we had rented two rooms for two nights. While walking up the stairs to the rooms, we were concerned about the quality of the rooms because of the appearance in the hallways. However, when the door opened to our rooms we were pleasantly surprised to find completely refinished rooms! Everything was new and the AC worked better than any other hotel we had stayed in for three weeks while in Italy. The owner was especially sweet and made sure that we had everything we needed to include some recommendations for places to visit and eat on our stay. The location is ideal! It's very close to many of the local shops and is not very far up the hill. I would definitely stay there again!!!
Review 124:+ Hotel does not have a parking and we had to park at some other location reached by a shuttle bus BUT, I don't think any hotel in Riomaggiore has any parking (it's a really small village) so it's not really a minus.
Review 125:+ The location is perfect, you are 30 seconds away from the beach and the marina + Riomaggiore is just beautiful and has very "young" feeling + The hotel owners are really sweet couple, very helpful and kind + It's such a good value for money that we actually considered staying for another day + The whole 5-terra region is amazing, I think I could easily spend there a week.
Review 126:nothing
Review 127:nice and clean
Review 128:So central amongst the beautiful building and surroundings of Riomaggoire. Lovely room and bathroom, everything we needed!
Review 129:Location is good.not far from train station. Owner is very helpful ,immediate response to e-mail.
