Reviews for Piece Hostel Sanjo
Review 1:nothing that I didn't like...
Review 2:Everything! 1) breakfast is awesome and generous! 2) location is perfect! just behind the Shikin Market and Kawaramachi shopping street. Plenty of cheap restaurant near by! 3) I didn't feel that I am staying at hostel, I thought I am staying at hotel! 4) shower facilities are great! 5) the laundry system, washer and dryers are available for very cheap price. 6) special thanks to Ayasa, the friendly lady who will great you at Reception when you check in.
Review 3:It might be noisy if other people check in at midnight.
Review 4:Excellent location in the Kyoto central! The staff are very nice and friendly. All speak English fluently. Everything is clean and new!
Review 5:Nothing.
Review 6:It was really nice and comfortable place. And everyone there was so kind. Thank you for answering all of my silly question. Plus, Breakfast was amazing. ^^ I want to visit again.
Review 7:The room was a decent size for a family of five. The beds were comfortable and warm. The kitchen facilities were clean and easy to access and to our surprise included breakfast of Western and Asian standard. The seating area was comfortable and had a pleasant view of greenery. Staff were very helpful and the location was in trendy downtown Kyoto where restaurants and shops were easily accessible. Out of our whole trip, my youngest son, 10 years old, enjoyed Kyoto the most.
Review 8:Everything. More like a boutique hotel then a hostel. The room and accommodation is fresh and modern and the free breakfast was a welcome addition. It is also very centrally located for main sightseeing including dinner at Ponto Cho or Gion.
Review 9:The location is a little bit far from subway.
Review 10:The room is very clean and provide everything you need, such as slipper, shampoo, shower gel. The staff are helpful and warm welcome.
Review 11:Extremely good value for money - we had an ensuite double room and itfelt more like a hotel than a hostel. The lobby and kitchen areextremely stylish and everything is really clean. A good breakfast isprovided (toast, some pastry, different jams...). Moreover, it isperfectly located in the middle of the city in a very nice area. Thiswas the best hostel I have ever stayed in and for a really good priceconsidering the average price level of Japan.
Review 12:Really nice and new hostel with community space (including cooking and washing up facilities) that would be great for travelling with friends or meeting people. Staff also very lovely :)
Review 13:- everything was extremely clean - friendly and helpful staff - nice location - breakfast was decent - hostel provides everything a traveler needs
Review 14:The breakfest is not worth going down for, they didn't have much down there and what they did have wouldn't be very healthy. If you wanted a hostel to just use as a base to see Kyoto this is perfect, but if you want to meet people this is not really the place.
Review 15:Great location close to everything,'it's a brand new hostel so everthing is clean and works well, you could compare it to a hotel.. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 16:some people talked in the room. I think the staff should warn more about public manner when people check in.
Review 17:its so clean and excellent for the value of money.
Review 18:Everything was great.
Review 19:The downstairs lounge area was nice and spacious, great place to hang out at night and meet other travelers; close to subway stations and was able to see many attractions by just walking, good nightlife; bed was so big and comfortable, clean facilities, breakfast included. Couldn't believe I was staying at a hostel it was so nice. Laundry machine was good (detergent included) and our clothes dried in the room.
Review 20:where do i start! this place is amazing. i extended my stay twice and took Shinkansen to Osaka and Kobe instead of looking for accommodation there. The place is beautiful; amazing design, delicious buffet breakfast, spacious common area on ground floor away from rooms located on upper floors. place is very quiet. locker in the room big enough for a backpack, socket beside your bed, three pcs at your disposal beside the reception. Hostel is located bang in the centre old town. 5min stroll from metro station and right where all the delicious restaurant, designer shops and all the amenities are. All the people i met were saying this must be the best hostel they ever stayed in. Did i mention laundry room? :) 200yen wash 100dryer... i love the place
Review 21:- the bed was like a "memory" cushion that wasn't comfortable
Review 22:- helpful staff that were fluent in English - nice clean environment - location was in the middle of the Kyoto shopping district so lots of shops/dining around
Review 23:We would have appreciated private bathroom... Next time we'll try to book more in advance to get one of those few rooms!
Review 24:Amazing stay at Piece Hostel Sanjo. Fully dedicated staff, always willing to help and attentive to details. Best value for money ever, in a cute and peaceful district of Kyoto. We want to come back!!
Review 25:It was a little bit cold in the room.
Review 26:everything is okay, and the cozy bed is the best. Though shower room is in the basement, it didn't matter at all. The staffs are kind and english is pretty good to communicate with the visitors
Review 27:Staff there are really kind, and the environment is really great, nice bed, clean towel, two kinds of pillows can be chosen and dilicious breakfast(we can choose to eat bread or rice) Really near to the street where can shopping and eating. Btw the hair dryer is made in Taiwan"達欣牌", this is interesting since some of we Taiwanese buy Japanese hair dryer :p
Review 28:I had two big pieces of luggage, which made it hard for me to go around. The place may be close and within walking distances to shopping areas, you would still have to walk at for around 10 mins to locate the nearest bus stop/subway. Perhaps for those looking for more convenience, piece hostel Kyoto would be more ideal.
Review 29:The staff were very attentive and helpful. Facilities (common areas) were comparable to hotels as well. My stay here was relaxing and perfectly comfortable. Highly recommended.
Review 30:- showers are all on basement level however this isn't such an issue as each shower is it's own room with changing space.
Review 31:- everything! - super clean, well designed hostel - awesome common area - decent range of breakfast served - helpful staff - awesome and very accessible location
Review 32:Checkin time is late/16:00. Shower area is in the basement a bit far from where I lived (but have enough shower spaces, new and big enough)...
Review 33:Very well designed hostel! Like boutique hotel... Everything is super clean... Very beautiful living room/lobby and kitchen area! Artistic little garden view... Much better free breakfast than I've ever had in any hostel...highly recommend!
Review 34:Best hostel I've ever stayed in. The beds in the 10 bed mixed dormitory are huge and one can argue offers slightly more privacy than the 4 bed mixed dormitory as the 10-bed is more true to the capsule bed motif. Although they will say the breakfast is modest, in my opinion, it's quite generous for a hostel. Everything about this place is luxurious, including the shower rooms. Even the lobby shared computer space is loaded with several of the new gorgeous iMacs for guests! Stayed in hostels all over the world in several design-centric cities and this hostel surpasses 99.9% of them.
Review 35:Location is great, staff was friendly and helpful, 7-11nearby, and the room we stayed in, two persons including shower and toilet, was the best room of the trip. It was even more comfortable than the expensive hotel we went to later on in Osaka.
Review 36:None!
Review 37:Overall it was the best hostel I have been stayed at! They even prepare breakfast with so many choices! Staff was friendly and helpful, bed is fantastic and hostel was super clean!
Review 38:The only thing we d change is to add some fruits to the breakfast.
Review 39:It is a beautifull hostel, really well located, completely clean. Staff is definately nice and helpfull.
Review 40:Location is convenient and accessible to Kawaramachi/Karasuma Area. About 10 to 15 minutes walk to subway or bus stop to explore others places of interest. All staff are friendly and easily communicate in English as well as provide valuable help. Family room with private toilet we had was spacial and beds are comfortable. Though the breakfast choice are limited but acceptable. The kitchen area is a nice meeting place. A very nice place to stay.
Review 41:Nothing! Everything was great:)
Review 42:The staff are really friendly, and if you do not know how to speak Japanese, never fear! Many of the young staff are fluent in Japanese, English and Chinese. Location is great and I will definitely be back again.
Review 43:Only negative is the bed was a foam matress (still comfy) but not great for a bad back, it flared up a bit after a few nights. Very minor complaint.
Review 44:Very friendly staff and in excellent location. Clean hostel. Breakfast spread was good with LOTS of bread/pastry, rice coffee and miso. Rooms quiet. This is not a party hostel but is lively in the common area.
Review 45:The shower rooms were on the basement instead of having it on each floor.
Review 46:It's very clean and very new. Breakfast selection were plenty and generous in servings.
Review 47:Location is perfect! Just 5 mins walk from Teramachi, and 12 mins walk from a few subway stations. Interesting breakfast! I love the mixed rice and my husband love the assorted bread. Easy check in and out.
Review 48:Only suggestion I would make is maybe introducing some eggs into the breakfast spread!
Review 49:Piece Sanjo has some of the best staff I have ever met. One guy in particular, I never got his name but he wore a trainee badge and usually worked in the evenings! He helped me plan all my onward travel around Japan, he researched places for me to go, and stay and wrote all directions for me in Japanese and English so I could get around easily! He was amazing, probably one of the most helpful people I have met and I have been travelling for 6 months! All of the staff are full of information and insights into the best things to see in do in Kyoto and further afield! The hostel has everything you could think off, an amazing open space kitchen, wifi in all the rooms, towels, slippers, shower gel/shampoo. Really modern! you wont regret your stay here!
Review 50:The "simple" breakfast included several different dishes, including different kinds of bread, eggs and potato salad- they were even trying out pancakes that day! Common area also has a great atmosphere, and they gave me complimentary ear plugs at check in.
Review 51:If you are solo traveller & you like to interact with other travellers, this is not the right place. I set the temperature in the dorm room to 17C but it's still too warm. Probably there's another button that still need to be pushed to make it cooler? If you decide to do laundry, keep in mind that u need to use the dryer at least 3 times to get ur clothes dry.So in the end you will need to spend 500 yen.
Review 52:A brand new hostel.Everything is like description. Breakfast is pleasant.A lot of breads to choose, seaweed rice, miso soup, tea. I had never waited for showering because there are so many shower rooms in the basement.Shampoo, soap, conditioner are provided.Rubber slipper is also provided.
Review 53:Cheapest of all our stays in Kyoto and Osaka but our favourite. Piece Sanjo is a great place for modern travellers: all basic necessities covered (clean, big shower rooms; free drinks; large communal areas; clean towels everyday; attentive staffs). While we found ourselves much difficulties finding drinking water, doing laundry and chat in other hostels, we didn't in HPS. Great for groups. Amazing breakfast! For free!
Review 54:Breakfast was a little basic - mainly just breads and some Japanese rice dishes, but there are plenty of convenience stores nearby if you want to add things like yoghurt or fruit to give a little variety.
Review 55:Everything at the hostel was fantastic. We stayed in a twin room and loved the bunk beds, and there was plenty of space in the room around the beds, so we felt quite comfortable. The shower facilities were excellent - the best we have seen in the hostels we have visited whilst travelling! And the laundry facilities are easy to use. The hostel was always clean and very pleasant to stay in for the 4 days that we were there, and we really can't speak highly enough of this hostel - interesting design, great staff and an all round excellent hostel.
Review 56:Wish we stayed longer
Review 57:The staff are so friendly, the facility itself is very modern and always clean. The breakfast provided had a large variety and on one day they even made us pancakes!
Review 58:This is likely to be my favorite hostel ever. Everything is perfect and above the best expectations. The staff is amazing, even a 5 star hotel couldnt have better staff !
Review 59:I wish I had called/emailed ahead to ask for a lower bunk. I am small so it was challenging to stay in the upper bunk. Wish they had wall sockets near the floor and not just by the bed.
Review 60:Clean and comfy beds. Plenty of shower rooms. Helpful staff. Simple but adequate breakfast.
Review 61:It was not a very social environment. The hotel is so big, it felt unlikely to meet people.
Review 62:It is a beautiful property with comfortable dorm rooms and a great breakfast. Everything is very new and it was a nice treat to stay somewhere like that. The staff was helpful and gave me advice for what to do in Kyoto.
Review 63:nothing!
Review 64:Everything!! Good breakfest, employees are helpfull and gave me a excellent place to eat ramen! the bed is superrrrr confortable !!! WOW would go back there any time soon! Location is great!!
Review 65:Location was a little far from the subway station.
Review 66:Great customer service and staff were very prompt and helpful. Breakfast was good, overall good value for money.
Review 67:nothing... if i turn to Kyoto probably I would turn back to Piece Hostel...
Review 68:Staff was really nice and gentle.. Its new hostel and was very pleasant stay..
Review 69:The breakfast repeated throughout the 5 nights we stayed.
Review 70:The staff are good in English and are very helpful, the location is good, and the room, although a little small but is clean and comfy.
Review 71:it isn't the most convenient because it's not so well connected by local transport.
Review 72:everything was great, but the staff was absolutely amazing! The facilities were clean and the room size was good (by japanese standards).
Review 73:the shower room is only at the basement. not many choice of food and drink in breakfast
Review 74:the staff is really friendly. the extra pillow is really considerate. quiet even stay in dorm. good value all guests clean up their dishes after breakfast d e s i g n
Review 75:The aircon was set only to heating, and we got bitten by mosquitoes when we opened the windows to get some air. No hot water in the sink (though of course there was hot water for showering;). The kitchen was a mob scene at breakfast.
Review 76:Very good value for peak autumn season in Kyoto. Nice to have the kitchen/lounge area to rest in with 24-h coffee and tea. The family room was spacious. The location was fantastic.
Review 77:The location of the hotel is excellent; Nishiki market is nearby, and surrounded with cute stores, very nice neighborhood, and if you have a good walking spirit, Kiyomizudera and other neighboring temples are a leisurely walking distance (about 30mins), the staff were extremely friendly and well spoken in English. The hotel was cozy and have comfortable rooms. Well worth of your money. Our stay here added more happiness and enjoyment in our Kyoto trip, definitely will come back in the future.
Review 78:I stayed at the very classy and modern Piece Hostel for two nights, firstly in a 4-bed female room, and secondly in a 4-bed mixed room. The beds were much bigger than I expected, and being able to choose my own pillow was great. The staff were attentive and helpful, especially Shu who was excellent. Showers were huge and incredibly clean, the kitchen area was spotless, and the continental breakfast was great - staff worked through the morning ensuring food was replenished right up until the end of the breakfast period. I couldn't have asked for more from a hostel, and will definitely stay there again if I make it back to Kyoto. Just make sure you book early, this place is very popular and for good reason.
Review 79:The mattress is so much soft that we can find our body shadowed after wake up.
Review 80:The staff are friendly and helpful. They have staff specified in different language which it makes us feel at ease.
Review 81:Rooms are mixed, which could be awkward when you want to put on your trousers and so on the morning. A small shelf in the bunk bed would also be a huge plus. Milk a Orange juice will be a lovely addition fro the breakfast too, even water and ice!
Review 82:It is really affordable.
Review 83:Some of the showers could use a little cleaning, but overall they were great.
Review 84:Brilliant location in the heart of Kyoto, just off Sanjo-dori and a few minutes' walk from the markets and nightlife centres of the city. Loved the value for money, new facilities, clean rooms, and free breakfast in the lobby/lounge was a great plus
Review 85:We received a very unpleasant and even racist comment from one of the girls from reception (Tomo). It was the only black spot in our trip to Japan. They shouldn't hire people like this for an international Hostel.
Review 86:Clean room and very new building
Review 87:Love the modern interior design. What the surprise is breakfast is included. Not far from duck river, and lots of bus-stops near there. Easy to head Kiyomizu temple Arashiyama and most of the places of interest.
Review 88:Ensuite room doesn't have any chair or desk. No cup for teeth brushing.
Review 89:Warm welcoming & helpful front desk staff. All day free tea & coffee.
Review 90:Not a bad side but trying not to disturb your roommates at dorm type room may be a little tiring. Just going to your room to sleep is the solution.
Review 91:A great and budget friendly clean hostel at the heart of Kyoto. With super friendly and helpfull staff.
Review 92:The shower tap automatically turns off every few seconds (unless you hold unto it).
Review 93:Great location, there are several different train stations in the area and many interesting places are just a few minutes walk. The place is well designed and clean. Staffs are super friendly and helpful. If you arrive before check-in time, you can store your luggage for free. The bed is large, thick, and comfortable. The bathroom is very spacious.
Review 94:Wow! An amazing brand new very swanky hostel!! Me and my friend loved it! We especially loved the sushi class that we took part in the day we arrived where it cost 500 yen to make lots of good sushi! Would definitely come back!
Review 95:Could have used a couple of more shower stalls.
Review 96:Fabulously clean and modern hostel with a very helpful staff. Location is ideally situated for walking to bars, restaurants and shopping.
Review 97:Brilliant hostel experience, really provided all the necessary amenities and more! My favourite bit was how big the bed was (for hostel standards) so I didn't feel claustrophobic. They also had eco-friendly showers!
Review 98:Room is not sound proof. At night we could hear people walking and opening door.
Review 99:My husband and I were happy about the location. It's truly convenient to many places. We walked to Kiyomizudera! We enjoyed our walk to Nishiki market and Teramachi. We will definitely recommend to those who plan to visit Kyoto. Besides, we find Wan Ling, Nobu and Allen were particularly friendly and helpful. They had gone the extra miles to assist us in food, transportation and even to get the refund for the bus pass (thanks again Nobu for the impossible) ^.^
Review 100:Nothing
Review 101:This hostel is the top. I loved everthing about Piece Hostel Sanjo. So friendly staff, clean facilities, cosy bed, free breakfast and so stylish design. Definitely recommended!!
Review 102:Very new facilities, really comfortable and with all you need to enjoy the stay. Location is pretty convenient. Breakfast is good too. I strongly recommend this hostel
Review 103:Staff very helpful and most of them can speak english very well, which is not usual in Japan. Bed is very big for a hostel and the mattress very comfortable. Well located, close to many bus stations so you can go everywhere easily.
Review 104:very impressed with the free buffet breakfast included in the already reasonable price of the hostel. The location is great for people who want easy access to independent shops away from the big chain stores in the centre ! Close to cultural Gion area !
Review 105:The halls looked like in prison :) There is a lot of people, they are changing every day, so bit crowdy and it doesn´t have the real hostel atmosphere.
Review 106:The location is perfect, it is a modern and clean. Breakfast is simple but tasteful.
Review 107:A bit squeaky for the upper bed. Mine was a room for four people. Every time the guy turns it squeaks
Review 108:It's in the center of Kyoto. The hostel is super clean and tidy. Hotel standard for a hostel. And the staff are really helpful.
Review 109:The only outlets on the bedrooms are by the beds, which is annoying if you're on the top bunk. There's also no bath, only showers.
Review 110:As good as hostels get. Great location, comfy beds, nice lounge and patio, excellent free breakfast, staff that's very helpful with directions and advice. A safe for each guest in your room.
Review 111:- rooms are a bit sticky (and it was not possible to let any fresh air in)
Review 112:+ location (restaurants, shops, bus stop, etc.) + cleanliness + helpful and friendly staff (e.g. they provide maps and explanations for all the major sights) + beds are a bit wider plus curtain for more privacy + towels are included + free tea and coffee + nice kitchen/lounge area I would definitely stay there again!
Review 113:too famous! lol
Review 114:it was really great so I'm worried about fiancial loss of hostel... lol piece sanjo is not a hostel. service and facilities are kinda boutique hotel.
Review 115:Sleeping in a dorm means you wake up early. People are up packing, and alarms went off alot from 6.30 in morning. But its the same in any hostel. Breakfast quite basic, no cold drinks. Wifi cut out sometimes.
Review 116:Great staff, the hostel is all new, fresh and clean. Very comfortable bunk beds with curtains for privacy. Extra pillows etc.
Review 117:The staff were so friendly and helpful...very engaging! The bed was amazingly comfortable. The best bed on our whole trip around Japan. Room was largish for Japan. Nice central location with the Nishki Markets down the road.....great place to stay!!
Review 118:It didn´t look like a hostel! Very new and clean, everything was great. The beds are very spacious and have some great shower room. The kitchen is awesome!
Review 119:The shower room was very hot and no place to put your things in the bathroom. Not bad though.
Review 120:Very clean hostel. The beds were cozy as they were encapsulated but with a curtain. Convenience of plugs by bed
Review 121:The bathrooms are relatively clean but it sometimes smells. I guess a bathroom freshener would help take away the bad odor. Also and I know this is out of the hostel's control, some guests do not clean up their mess like they leave their fallen hair on the bathroom floor.
Review 122:Piece Hostel Sanjo is by far the BEST hostel I have stayed in Asia. The staff are always helpful and genuinely nice. I also like that I can freely change my towel almost on a daily basis! The location is also good, lots of local stores nearby plus the neighborhood is "zen"-like which made my trip more relaxing! The free breakfast is basic but good enough to keep me energized until lunch time. The hostel is always clean, the bathrooms are spacious and water pressure is good! There is an elevator which is a plus for those travelers staying at the upper floors. I will definitely stay again in this hostel when I go back to Kyoto. I hope there is a Piece Hostel anywhere in the world! :)
Review 123:Wasn't lot of space in the dorm
Review 124:Very nice and clean hostel. Nice design. Modern facilities. Nice bunks cabin-style bunk beds and lockers in the rooms.
Review 125:Was like staying at a hotel - everything was new and clean, and the continental breakfast was very good. The staff were incredibly helpful with food recommendations and other tips. Location was great close to the Nishi Market.
