Reviews for Palazzo del Capitano Relais & Wellness

Review 1:Bed was not up to the quality of the rest of the room - a bit lumpy.

Review 2:Location was excellent, the room was well appointed, and the breakfast was exceptional.

Review 3:Attention! Ir you booking a standar room you will lead to a building of apartments 200 mts from the hotel because yo have reserved a "next room". I must to pay an additional price for stay in the hotel main building. The hotel is very good in a nice place.

Review 4:Ambiguous pet Policy. Huge difference between the afternoon receptionist on arrival (very welcoming, friendly and Professional) and the staff the following morning - unpleasant. I was also given dirty flip flops for the sulphur baths - they had grass and mud on them.

Review 5:The location, the room, the view

Review 6:Our only complaints were spotty wifi, mostly not the fault of the hotel and in our room we could not get any English channels on the TV. Although we were told we should get CNN and BBC. Neither of these detracted from our very enjoyable stay.

Review 7:This a a beautiful hotel with a very helpful porter who helped us manage our car. Most of the staff was very helpful and friendly. The garden is wonderful and the breakfast is excellent. We would stay here again.

Review 8:The mattress and pillows were rigid. Some of the young reception staff were a bit stand offish

Review 9:Beautiful facility. We stayed in the Leone suite and it proved to be more than we expected

Review 10:Our room was in extra building. Air conditioning was not working and there was a fan. We complained as we had booked airconditioned room and it was very hot. We changed room where air conditioning worked but wasn´t efficient. Sleepless night.

Review 11:There were plenty of varieties in breakfast, something for everybody.

Review 12:If you stay in the annex, there is no air conditioning, and the standard is not quite the same, but it is also cheaper and fine for the price.

Review 13:This is a beautiful hotel with a wonderful garden and breakfast. The jacuzzi is a highlight.

Review 14:Location very difficult to reach by car and no proper information before arrival about parking and Shuttle Service which is available. Room "Suite" was in the middle of the Stairways half a floor above the reception area with no noise isolation so from early morning all the talking of Receptionist and Guests was as if they were standing in the Room. AC was not controlable and not even possible to switch off unless switching off the Fuse which I ended up doing as it was too loud to have it running at night. Hygene Standards not the one of a 4* Hotel as I saw the cleaning of the Breakfast room while having Breakfast and that I would have preferred not to see. From the moment I checked in I felt it was all about making money for them - prices of the Mini Bar were ridiculously high and everything was available against charge. Wellness Factor for me was zero so I spent my days exploring the surrounding small villages and places which was definitely more relaxing - a normal small Hotel would have been a better choice.

Review 15:Only thing I liked was the Body Lotion but that even was not replaced in a 3 nights stay. Receptionist in the evening was very friendly.

Review 16:*The bed is not comfortable *Wifi signal is very weak, not available in the room - must stand next to the door to catch the signal *Breakfast could be improved.

Review 17:*The Staff is extremely helpful, always smiling and welcoming. *The location is perfect, right in rhe middle of the village/center. *The interior design of the rooms, the cleanliness *The garden and jaccuzi

Review 18:A small gripe was that in terms of technology it was sorely lacking - TV didn't work well it offer many channels, the WiFi signal didn't reach our room. But in many ways these things were a plus as it gave us a digital detox too!

Review 19:A beautiful old building in an absolutely stunning location - it was totally breathtaking on arrival. The suite as fantastic - tasteful, spacious and luxurious.

Review 20:The Acquario suite was claustrophic , convent-like,and oppressive. an attic loft overhung the room space, and a ladder-stair well filled much of the floor space. The sole window was about 12 feet up the wall and not admit much light as it was blocked by the roofline. Floor tiles and mortar in the suite were loose. There were inadequate usable surfaces; surface space was consumed with a sewing machine and the hotel's stuff. The girl at the front desk on June 2nd and 3rd from 9:30 to 10:30 was rude. Suites are on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator. Matches and candles are in the room which has a bed hung with curtains, posing a fire risk. The main stair well is blocked by a padlocked metal gate at night, which blocks a means of egress in an emergency and would interfere with rescuers reaching 3rd floor guests.

Review 21:Porter was excellent. Shampoo and soap were excellent, but we received only one bottle of shampoo for 2 persons for a 4 night stay. The hotel garden was lovely but umbrellas should have been placed to shade the tables.

Review 22:The hotel charged my credit card before we arrived, they explained it was due to a special offer I had taken on booking.com. This isn't a big problem, but a small inconvenience for us because our parents wanted to make sure they were paying for their rooms and make sure they reimbursed me and so on. It would have been easier if we could have paid for the rooms separately at the time of check in or check out.

Review 23:My husband and I were traveling with both of our parents for a weekend road trip visiting a few of the great wine spots in Tuscany. We made it to the hotel quite late in the night and the staff was awake and ready for us, extremely polite and helpful in showing us our rooms and taking our luggage. The rooms were comfortable for the night we stayed and in the morning they had a nice breakfast buffet, including gluten free options for my mother in law, who is celiac. The hotel usually has some gluten free things, but I appreciated that they indeed received my message via booking.com to please include gluten free options in the breakfast if possible.

Review 24:Only thing I would change is the quality of the bed. For a five-star resort I'd expect a true Queen bed and not two singles merged together.

Review 25:The staff and hospitality was excellent, nestled in a quiet castle area between two major wine-producing regions. On top of the excellent service and facilities there were majestic excursions organised by the hotel staff, including an off-road Jeep tour courtesy of the owner, Roberto and a follow-up trip to Montalcino via Sauro - a witty, retired Dr. With great knowledge of the area. Room decor and comfort was generally awesome.

Review 26:As the hotel is in the old city, cars are not allowed to enter there. therefore we had to park our car outside of the old city and walked with our luggage till hotel under the rain. we got soaked completely. Then they transferred us to the other building with their vehicle. there is no elevator at that building, either. the room is decorated like the bed and breakfast hotel concept with poor conditions. It does not meet our expectation. The price/quality balance is definitely low. Heating system did not work and there is no phone at the room. Upon our complaint, they solved our problem at the end. At that day the price in the booking.com for the same hotel was lower than we booked. as we didn't want more trouble, we did not mention that and not ask any reduction.

Review 27:all the staff are excellent and are willing to make you happy. Especially, Barbara, Mansur and Nipuna...

Review 28:We had a problem with WIFI -- for some reason we couldn't access it in the hotel -- however, it wasn't a major problem for us. Everything else made up for it.

Review 29:What a wonderful hotel in a cute, little town, San Quirico -- great restaurants, lovely people. Would love to return and stay at this same hotel. It was so great!!!!

Review 30:A few details: The bed was extremely noisy ... The suite "Toro" where we stayed was having a bit strange design, quite long but narrow not leaving a lot of space to move, with a bathroom nearly as big as the room ;-)

Review 31:Very nice hotel in the center of San Quirico. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great with good variety. We loved the interiors, the bathroom and the garden. For sure once the swimming pool will be done (work in progress) it will be even better. There is no parking available on the structure but a free parking is available in 2 minutes walk!. Also the restaurant "Il forno", a few steps from the hotel is very good. Highly recommended to go at least one time.

Review 32:I object to thin plastic water glasses and plastic champagne flutes in the room. A four star hotel should trust its guests with real glass. Since it is so new, there is a fresh paint, fresh plastic smell around the place that will no doubt dissipate. Also I don't like breakfast in a windowless basement room, however well ventilated.

Review 33:We were among the first guests on the first day the new annex opened, so everything is spanking new. The breakfast spread is great, and the hotel staff is very friendly.

Review 34:I picked the hotel because it had a Michellin starred restaurant. However, I did not realize it was still closed when I booked. Hotel recommended another nearby restaurant to us and it was good. No tegrets about staying there.

Review 35:Location - San Quirio D'Orca is nesr to all the places I wanted to go

Review 36:The suite was perfect for our Valentines Day getaway. Romantic setting in a beautiful Tuscan Village with all of the perks. We will definitely return in the spring.

Review 37:The room was lovely and comfortable. Staff members were pleasant and helpful. They even sent someone to guide us when we got lost on our way to the hotel. Restaurant was excellent!

Review 38:- Room is packed of furniture and stairs is really a DANGER for kids - Wi-fi simply does not work in the room and staff did not fix it in 1 days there - Breakfast was too simple for hotel prices - Hotel restaurant (Trattoria del forno) is quite expensive, so we expect more from the food which was quite normal, and staff does not seem to like kids (except for one waiter who had teo daughters) - Garage is limited and very small to park big cars. Option is to park in public place and go walking up the hill for 5 minutes

Review 39:- Location of hotel - Style, Cleaness and conservation of room and furnitures Helpfulness of bell door staff Quality of toiletries

Review 40:Parking is down the hill from the hotel which was fine once we knew, it was just a little confusing on our arrival, but not being able to read Italian signs could have contributed to that. The thermal baths were at another hotel about 6km away, which again was okay it was easy to find and helped us to explore another area, but we thought they were at the hotel from what we read about the description of the premises.

Review 41:Our room was great, we were in one of the properties just away from the main hotel, the staff were very friendly especially Coco who takes your bags to your room. The breakfast was delicious and the Restaurant was outstanding, extremely tasty Tuscsn cuisine we ate there 3 nights. Location of hotel close to other little villages in the area if you have a car. We highly recommend.

Review 42:the Romantic suite too small, with too many stairs too noisy air conditioning wasn't working

Review 43:the beautiful garden and the view from the romantic suite breakfast! nice decoration

Review 44:Great hotel, very kind staff, beautiful cosy gardens, fantastic breakfast and tea + cakes in the afternoon is an extra treat that makes the whole experience great value for money!

Review 45:The wifi didn't work in the room, and the friendliness of the staff varied greatly. Some were very nice, while others were pretty snooty. This was the only bad thing, but all the good stuff made it well worth putting up with one or two snooty employees.

Review 46:Really nice hotel in a small but gorgeous Tuscany village. The rooms are very quaint, clean and comfortable, and the premises are beautiful, with a big relaxing garden and a spa section. The breakfast is superb, with lots of fresh cold cuts, cheeses, omelets (and as always lots of pastries if you're into sweet italian style breakfasts).

Review 47:Enjoyed our stay and all the staff lovely and helpful apart from one young grumpy and grunting young girl at reception. Ruins the review for the charming hard working reception staff which we also experienced.

Review 48:The gardens were beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed having afternoon tea there. Also, we loved being able to have a massage and a manicure! Made our vacation very relaxing!

Review 49:The Wifi.

Review 50:Quiet town that's off the beaten path, so it's not overrun by tourist like many parts of Tuscany. Yet, close to many of the cities you would want to visit on day trips. We loved our stay here. Very serene. You will need a car.

Review 51:Friendly staff who were responsive and helpful. Great location in the middle of San Quirico, a beautiful medieval town off the main tourist map

Review 52:Friendly staff & attractions close by

Review 53:Nothing to criticise.

Review 54:Historic house within the old walled town. Beautiful garden and friendly staff. The attached restaurant is worth trying.

Review 55:Beautiful grounds. Very relaxing. Enjoyed every minute!

Review 56:Fabulous hotel, fabulous location, fabulous service, nothing was too much trouble, staff so friendly and helpful.

Review 57:Everything was perfect

Review 58:Nothing

Review 59:The friendliness and excellent services of the staff.

Review 60:Street noise from morning street cleaner. Bed make a lot of noise

Review 61:Love Capitano. Always stay here when visiting Quirico.

Review 62:Unbelievable experience.

Review 63:Loved Tuscany!

Review 64:Everything was fantastic!!!!!

Review 65:Wonderful hotel. Everything was great. Enjoyed our stay there very much. Would definitely come back.

Review 66:Hotel is clean and comfortable. The service from staff was also good. We aldo liked the afternoon tea.

Review 67:Parking near the city and far from hotel.

Review 68:Nice setting, good rooms, clean, warm, good breakfast.

Review 69:Lovely village, lovely people, lovely breakfast.

Review 70:Luke warm jacuzzi tub. Useless upstairs room in double superior to pay extra for. No bathtub in room.

Review 71:Great service

Review 72:Amazing garden One of the best breakfasts we had in Italy Evening Jacuzzi in the garden is absolutely fantastic

Review 73:breakfast was really rich and tasty. the room was big and the bed was very comfortable. a great place to stay!

Review 74:Everything, a little gem

Review 75:No pool

Review 76:Not too many restaurants in the small town

Review 77:Spa, and staff were great, location made it easy to drive around Tuscany

Review 78:Probably the front desk when we arrived. It seemed they were willing to accommodate our request. Other than that, the rest of the staff was excellent.

Review 79:The locations was perfect and what was provided during our stay. The breakfast was very good and all the related facilities attached to the hotel.

Review 80:Location, friendliness and over the top helpfulness of staff. Large, clean fantastic rooms. Wonderful tea and tid bits in the afternoon whichcan be taken in the garden. Great breakfast.free parking.

Review 81:We had booked 2 single beds but our assigned room had only one double. This was attended to immediately and we were upgraded to an amazing two bedroomed apartment. Service was first class in every way. We were sorry to be staying just the one night. We ate one of our best Italian meals ever in the Hotel's restaurant down the street - not to be missed! Thank you to all - great experience. Barbara Roma (Ireland0

Review 82:Fantastic quiet location in a beautiful small old city, very nice and friendly staff, excellent room, jacuzzi in the garden. Everything was perfect, the best place we have been in Italy.

Review 83:Hello, Spa facilities at a very low level, note the price obligate them for each individual, we are charging an additional amount of 200 Euro without explaining in advance that the billing was only when we returned the room.

Review 84:We loved the building where the hotel is located, an ancient neighborhood

Review 85:Only down side was when we arrived early first day we were happy to leave our luggage & look around they said go & have some breakfast we will see what we can do. We had eaten before we left Siena so we had a light snack & then showed 3 room of which we were able to go into straight away bonus. On check out we discovered a €20 a head charge for the first day breakfast. To be honest if that was explained we would not have bothered we had stayed an extra night as it was which had eaten into our budget. It soured or stay here. No one likes to throw money away.

Review 86:Loved our stay, very clean & staff very helpful.

Review 87:Outstanding suite in a lovely boutique hotel with a great location in the quiet Tuscan town of San Quirico d'Orcia. Easy stroll to the town's main street with shops and restaurants. The hotel had a huge and luscious garden for patrons. Breakfast was outstanding.

Review 88:Wifi was a little inconsistent.

Review 89:The location of the hotel in the heart of Tuscany and in thequiet/historic town of San Quirico dʼOrcia is perfect -- you are20/30 minutes away from visiting other historic towns and activities(top wine and olive oil tasting, spas, etc).Terrific breakfasts -- wonderful selections and room setting. The hotel's restaurant (not physically connected to the hotel which makes a more authentic restaurant experience) is great and don't let the Michelin Star create a stuffy or over-the-top pavlov reflex -- Trattoria Al Vecchio Forno has a casual to business casual setting and is reasonably priced -- and of course, has tremendous Tuscan food and wine.

Review 90:The mini fridge wasn't working very well so the drinks were not veeeery cold.

Review 91:The Hotel is wonderful. The rooms are very comfortable and beautifully designed with a romantic decoration. The breakfast has a lot of options and is delicious. The staff is very helpful and is always available to give instructions and tips about what to do around there. We had a wonderful time there.

Review 92:The building is charming... don't expect huge rooms, this is a residenza d'epoca. It is lovely and has an outstanding garden. I loved the tea service in the afternoon and the herbal tea service available in the evenings!! Don't hesitate, this lovely small hotel will not disappoint. Their restaurant is also oustanding.

Review 93:The 4 people room is amazing and has Jacuzzi inside. Is ideal for group of friends. Hotel is very clean, quiet, has beautiful design, and a paradisaical garden where you can relax. Here we saw many falling stars at night.

Review 94:Jacuzzi in the suite itself was not included in the price of the suite.

Review 95:Beautiful Garden with jacuzzi Good service Suite was very Nice Nice wellness products Good restaurant and breakfast

Review 96:nothing

Review 97:All the hotel staff were very friendly the Hotel was quiet and relaxing . The breakfast was excellent plus afternoon tea and cake what more could you want for your holiday. We have been twice this year

Review 98:Initially I booked it, thinking by mistke it had a pool, however it wasonly a spa.my mistake, but when I wanted to change the booking to a hotelwith a swim pool, the hotels policy not to cancel. Sad.

Review 99:I truly thought that this spa was in the countryside not in the main village. I could have mis read the illustration of this place when booking, but in any event was nice

Review 100:Unfortunately nothing interesting in San Quirico. But there is many many interestiong places around :)

Review 101:Excellent hotel, real 4*, in spite of it`s Italy :) Good breakfast Comfortable room Hotel has own garden with open air jakuzzi, SPA\massage zone and own restaurant, the best in San`Q

Review 102:Best hotel of 5 during our 7 days trip in tuscany. It deserves almost 5 stars. Incredible garden, breakfast, jacuzzi, cosmetic shop, cosy rooms, wellness center. Are missing, very minor: pool, fitness.

Review 103:The 'benessere'/spa is over priced! The whirlpool is made ofcheap and ugly plastic, the water was too shallow and cold, the massage(25 minutes) was not up to standard! And all of this cost 190 euro for1,5 hrs!!!

Review 104:The village is beautiful.

Review 105:The much touted and recommended (including by the hotel) restaurant wasclosed for the week we were there. It tends to happen when you travel inwinter but we were disppointed and would have like to have been informedof this in advance.

Review 106:Lovely retreat-like hotel in a romantic spot in Tuscany. We stayed inwinter and it was a very quiet little town but well situated with only ashort drive to tuscan towns Montelcino and Pienza. We had a greatmassage at the spa and also enjoyed the jacuzzi in our room. The roomwas split into three levels and was very comfortable although a littledangerous getting up and down the twisting staircase for anyone a bittaller. Excellent buffet breakfast, very extensive.

Review 107:having been given an upgraded room, which was very nice, with a jacuzzi in the room!! the only problem was, to use the jacuzzi there was a charge!!!! in fairness to the helpful receptionist, she contacted the manager and after a protracted discussion the additional charge was waved. so we had a large jacuzzi full of hot water eventually, lying back to enjoy, i discover the jets would not work!! so no bubbles, just hot water.............

Review 108:lovely location inside old walled town, short distance from middle of village and from the very good Osteria Del Carinale, had great meal there

Review 109:My husband and I stayed only one night at the palazzo, and we had such a pleasant stay, I wish we would have spent at least a couple of nights. We were traveling with my parents who also had a room. The staff was friendly and very helpful and welcoming. The rooms were clean, confortable and beautifully decorated. The gardens are superb and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the complimentary afternoon tea. Only downside was that the outdoor spa was not working when we were there. Breakfast buffet was fantastic with a variety of fresh fruit, breads & pastries, cereals, yogurt etc. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 110:The hotel is a gem set in a gorgeous medieval town. Easy to get to, well signed, easy parking, staff incredibly welcoming and helpful. Beautifully appointed, nothing too much trouble. The spa is a MUST and well worth the added tariff. My husband and I had an hour to ourselves on very short notice at 10pm after dinner. The hotel staff didn't bat an eye at our wish to relax at such late hour and were quick to open the spa, light candles and bring us champagne with smiles and calm and charm. Breakfast was fabulous, everything possible on offer and our young daughters were treated with great dignity and care, which they loved.

Review 111:The bed and pillows could have been a bit more comfortable.

Review 112:Very welcoming staff, amazing little town. Dinner recommendation was spectacular. The private use of the spa was an ideal way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Review 113:We were upgraded to a "better" room but had to pay 50 euros extra if we would like to use the jaccuzzi... The shower was VERY narrow as well as the room! Normaly the fare is.about 300 euros for this room.

Review 114:The garden! The breakfastroom had personality! The Restaurant, 50m away is very charming!

Review 115:1) The wifi really didn't work anywhere outside of reception. Our room was directly above the reception and had a wifi transmitter outside and it didn't work 2) When I went to check in the staff immediately tried to sell me an upgrade. Generally I find this annoying. I had made the booking 2 hours previous and would have selected that room if I wanted it 3) The swimming pool is a 15 minute walk away and is basically a public pool shared by the whole town. I found this a little misleading in the description. Also we were charged 5 euro each to use this pool! 4) The jacuzzi in the gardens was 3 euro per use and tokens were issued on check in In general I found the push towards getting extra cash from guests very annoying. We stayed in 11 places during our 2 week trip of Italy and this was the worst. The facilities were good but it just left a bad taste in the mouth.

Review 116:Was a good location. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was good. Overall didn't like it though!

Review 117:There was no wifi in the room. The airconditioner squeaked all night for 2 nights, despite our request to have it looked at. Room was small for the price.

Review 118:The garden area was pleasant to sit in.

Review 119:There was no pool, only a jacuzzi you have to pay to use. We stay in aroom among corridors and stairs and got some noisy early morning.

Review 120:Kind staff, very confortable hotel

Review 121:I’ve spent just one night in Palazzo del Capitano with a friend during along week end of holiday in Tuscany. Our room was not in the mainbuilding but in a secondary building about 100 meters far from the hotelone. The room was basic but functional and very quiet. The breakfast wasserved in the main building and it was fantastic, there was a lot ofproducts and it was served in a very charming atmosphere. All the staffwas very friendly. I recommend this hotel.
