Reviews for Himeji Castle Grandvrio Hotel
Review 1:3pm check in with no flexibility. We arrived at around 1pm and had to wait in the lobby until 3pm. Staff spoke little English which wasn't a problem for me but it was for my friends. Hotel vending machines did not dispense beer. No lift access to breakfast floor. Breakfast was on the 2nd floor, but had to take lift to 1st floor and then take the stairs. There was a total power failure on the day we checked out. More information needs to be included with the booking confirmation, such as a map from the station to the hotel, the cost of a taxi (670 yen), the shuttle service timetable, check in times, etc.
Review 2:Shuttle bus service to station, which takes about two minutes, was excellent. Breakfast was nice. The room was small but comfortable and the room rate was very affordable. But it was so cheap, everyone in my travel group had their own room. Wi-fi was included and was mostly reliable. Bed was firm with typically firm pillow - I like this but not everyone does. The window in my room could be opened. Provided toiletries were nice. Closet space for suits and skirts. Onsite Sento (public bath) was included in the price and massages could be requested late into the evening at reasonable rates. Check in area was attractive with comfortable chairs allowing for a useful meeting place or chill-out spot at the end of the day. Taxi between the hotel and the station costs 670 yen. (I'm not sure if the shuttle bus service allows for luggage.) I would definitely stay here again.
Review 3:Rooms overlooking street suffer street noise including pedestrian alert at street crossing. Rooms were average but characterless. Not as convenient to the castle as we had thought.
Review 4:A little older so dated amenities. Air didn't work so well, had to open the window to help cool things down.
Review 5:Short walk from Himeji station. Clean room, on par with typical Japanese hotel rooms.
Review 6:Hotel name is Castle hotel, but is still far away from castle (there is free shuttle service to the castle though) Bit old-fashioned room
Review 7:Clean room Nice breakfast
Review 8:I fell asleep on the train on my way back from Osaka and woke up in Himeji instead of Akashi- oops. A quick online search revealed that this hotel had an available room. It was really late so I took a taxi there, but I realized the next day that I could have easily walked. It was a pretty standard Japanese business style hotel room.
Review 9:I dont know the shuttle bus information when I arrived. So I walked by myself with big luggage. I think it would be better if bus information (time / bus stop) are provided before. But everything is excellent
Review 10:Shuttle bus from station to hotel. Good location. Clean, comfort, and convenient.
Review 11:Location was fine, and it was a pleasant 15 minute walk along the river to the train station, shops and restaurants.
Review 12:Comfortable hotel with a most excellent bath house. Staff were helpful, and obliging and tried hard to speak English.
Review 13:The name implies it is near the castle, it is not too far, however is in the opposite direction from the station
Review 14:The baths available were excellent The shuttle bus was very useful
Review 15:Great hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was small but had everything we needed for a 2 night stay. We loved our first experience of a Japanese spa- very relaxing. The breakfast was great with lots of choice. Regular hotel bus to the station or an easy 10 min walk.
Review 16:Single room was a little pokey. Hoped for a better choice of food at breakfast
Review 17:The hotel was in a good location and even provided a free bus shuttle from the train station. The Spa was free and excellent.
Review 18:Room are little bit old and small (but clean and quiet). You're not in Himeji to sit in the room!
Review 19:Onsen/spa the best thing in this hotel. If you are tired after visiting Himeji the hot baths are that what are you need. You have a few baths with varies water and temperature. Location is 5-7 min walk from Himeji station
Review 20:We had an economy double room. The bed was a bit too small and the comforter a bit too thick. I was too warm and did not sleep too well.
Review 21:Front desk staff was friendly. Though the free shuttle does not run too frequently, it is not too far from the Himeiji station on foot.
Review 22:The check-in staff was rather neutral to unfriendly, but later contact was nice. The room was not too big and the bathroom a Japanese bath-unit-box. But the public bath including sauna is very new and has lot's of facilities, so you should definitely go for that!
Review 23:About 30 minutes walk to Himeji castle on the other side of the train station, for those who don't like walking more than needed. Also a bit on the expensive side.
Review 24:Hot springs, ice cream vending machines, good amenities
Review 25:Booking.com and the hotel itself state it's newly reopened (December 2014) after renovations. Unfortunately, the renovations did not include the rooms - at least not the one I was in. The location is a bit far from the train station to just walk there with your luggage, but the shuttle service goes every 30 min. There are no nice restaurants, only 2 convenient stores (Lawson and 7-Eleven) and a McDonald's near the hotel. The hotel room was not properly cleaned - I found sticky marks from soda cans on the desk - something that really should have been cleaned before!
Review 26:Biggest asset - The hot spring, that very rightfully calls itself a Spa. In fact, that is the only reason this hotel got any good marks from me. Spa and lobby are freshly renovated and especially the spa is worth the room price and also the remote location. Free shuttle service from and to the train station
Review 27:Rooms rather small ,price too high for what it offers. Service fine. Itsuffers from the same weakness that all hotels have namely no controleby hotel accomodation manager after housekeeping has cleaned the room ifeverything is in good order and everything is functioning properly, suchas showers ,lights, curtains no holes ,carpets clean etc. As bussinestraveller I stayed into many hotels to notice this shortcoming in allhotels.Reporting of shortcomings is left to house keeping/cleaningladies would do not report. They only clean.
Review 28:Location,not too far from station and has shuttle bus service tocenter town.

Review 35:Good (and cheap) enough for 1 night stay
Review 36:Bed was hard...which is the norm in Japan.
Review 37:The public bath facilities were terrific. The helpfulness of the staff was a1.
Review 38:Staff was helpful but not very friendly.
Review 39:The hotel has a full onsen the best you would find in any luxury hotel. The price was not for a luxury hotel.. Food was excellent
Review 40:The room and bathroom were very small. Bed and pillows hard.
Review 41:Walking distance from the train station and breakfast was decent.
Review 42:Staff was unable to communicate very well in English.
Review 43:The spa was great and made up for the room.

Review 55:Location was 15 min walk from station, nothing much in the area, excepta McD, for those interested. Pedestrian signal could be heard day andnight thru closed 6 floor window on w side. Ask for opposite side.
Review 56:Rate was very reasonable for this older but well maintained hotel. Roomsize was small but adequate. Free shuttle to jr station. Staff friendlyand had English ability. Did not try breakfast.
Review 57:The room decor needed updating.
Review 58:The hotel was clean and only a short walk from Himeji JR station. The staff were pleasant and efficient.
