Reviews for Hotel Due Gemelli
Review 1:Lots of stairs. Staff did carry luggage if you asked for help. Biggest problem was the noise. Sound reverberated through the entire building
Review 2:Convenient if you arrived by car. Very nice breakfast
Review 3:No elevator Otherwise, no bad experiences!
Review 4:Extremely friendly family business, very hospitable people. Wonderful views. Dinners, especially fish, very good. Breakfast has improved greatly over our earliest visits. Good parking. We are repeat guests (5 times)
Review 5:Not a lotbof atmosphere. A great location with views of the ocean but noisy. Some carpets and soft furnishings to absorb the noise of chairs on floors would make a difference.
Review 6:Nice food. Basic but good value.
Review 7:The walls are paper thin so you can hear your neighbours and people on the stairs clearly.
Review 8:The views from the balcony are incredible. The bus stop is right outside the hotel and takes only 5 minutes to riomaggiore.
Review 9:There's no elevator so be ready to carry your luggage downstairs on your own. The bathroom had filtration issues and was kinda smelly when we arrived. We didn't say anything but do believe that the hotel should check everything prior to guests arrival. An extra note: The last bus from Riomaggiore to the hotel leaves at 8pm and if you miss it you will need to call for the taxi coz there is no way you can walk up the mountains at night, the road is dark, streets are narrow and sidewalks do not exist.
Review 10:The staff is nice. The cleaning ladies speak spanish and helped us with a few things. The hotel is clean and has a beautiful view from every room. Since it's far from the Riomaggiore town center they have their own restaurant, the breakfast is served every day for only 5EUR per person and is super complete, dinner was delicious as well. The room was comfortable and had a balcony where we could relax. The bus stop is a few meters from the hotel and they gave us the bus schedule so we could know when to take it. The bus is ALWAYS on time so you will need to be on time as well or you will miss it. A taxi from the hotel to Riomaggiore will charge 15EUR, for us this transportation option was great as we had heavy luggage.
Review 11:I thought that the property would have been closer to the village of Riomaggorie..The website was a little misleading
Review 12:The staff was really nice and our breakfast was very tasty for just 5 Euro.
Review 13:Strange odor, no a/c but sea breeze was great if you left doors fully open, kinda weird that neighboring room's balcony could look right into our bedroom - caught me full view when casually chatting with spouse, so many flights of stairs with suitcases (but that's the whole area), awful poly bedspreads
Review 14:Views, free and plenty of parking, decent restaurant, nice staff, bus service was nice, plenty of good towels, much more quiet at night than town until other rooms starting moving around- then doors were really noisy, could get ice from bar three stories up
Review 15:Our room was on the very lowest guest level, so we had many steps to go down with our luggage to get to our room. We had asked for a room higher up, and when I mentioned that at check-in, my comment was brushed off. With our stay of only one night, I felt we were probably low priority in that regard. Overall, the pluses far won out over that one minus.
Review 16:The location was great. It was at the start point of our Cinque Terre sightseeing, so it worked out very well for us, especially since we had a car. The view was beautiful from the balcony. We had dinner the evening we were there, and it was one of our top 3 dinners during our 14 days in Italy.
Review 17:Poor sound proofing - I could hear the guy in the next room snoring. And his phone / TV / conversations. Also guests arriving late or leaving early were extremely disruptive. No mini fridge in room to keep drinks cold. No kettle to make a coffee. Inconsistent breakfast buffet.
Review 18:Easy to get to and free parking. Beautiful panoramic views of the ocean. Shuttle bus was a bonus in not having to find parking in limited areas.
Review 19:Thought it was closer to village (we had no car) and had to take local bus. Sewer pipe broken for an apparently long time outside and heard it emptying on ground all night.
Review 20:Nice view
Review 21:Views from the balcony! Location is pretty convinient when have car. But it also have shuttle buses running to Cinque Terre villages. Nice breakfast, good staff.
Review 22:Way too many stairs down to our room - there really should be a lift. A long way out of Rio Maggiore, bus only runs every hour or so. Threadbare towels.
Review 23:Beautiful views. Staff were very helpful.
Review 24:The rooms were hot and a tired (no air con only free standing fan) We had a room on street level so did not have to do the stairs, these rooms have a lovely large terrace (which is shared with 3 rooms) The breakfast is extra and not worth it, the service was not great and the food was minimal, you are best to have breakfast in the town.
Review 25:If you need parking, this hotel is excellent. It is a short bus ride to the town (regular buses) Quite and peaceful with excellent views. The food in the restaurant was nice and the service was good.
Review 26:It's impossible (!) to contact them by email, they just ignore all messages, which may be a bummer - but you can still call them, if you need to - after third unanswered email, that's what I did. Also, the place is quite far away from the most interesting places in Cinque Terre so you'll have to rely on the local bus line (cars won't do you no good in this particular area).
Review 27:Clean place, helpful staff and an unforgettable view from the window (of every room, they all face the same way). The room has everything you'd expect, including a balcony. It just felt good coming back there every night of my stay.
Review 28:We ate at the restaurant 1 night and we understand seafood would be on the menu but more non seafood options would have been great to see. The room was quite small but not unpleasant.
Review 29:The view was AMAZING! !!
Review 30:Not a bad experience by any means, but I wish it was just the smallest bit closer to the downtown area of Riomaggiore (marina/train/etc.), or that a more direct shuttle service was provided bi-hourly for guests at a reasonable price (or if the room rate was raised an a direct shuttle to the top of the hill of the downtown was included).
Review 31:Loved the view, and the absolutely amazing food.
Review 32:The ceiling fan was faulty but we had a floor standing fan placed in the room. The shower was tiny, honestly it would be a struggle for anyone over 15 st. The fittings were a bit dated and could do with refurbishment. Not a great location for Cinque Terra as you are a way out and busses were hit and miss, I preferred Levanto for ease of access.
Review 33:Our room was at road level and had a very large shared terrace with panoramic sea views. The buffet style breakfast was in a large dining room overlooking the coast and had a good choice of food.
Review 34:No A/C in room, no refrigerator, no hair dryer in room (had to get one at desk)and no elevator. Most rooms are down so luggage had to be carried up and down steps but staff was very helpful with the luggage. Staff was very helpful and friendly, made up for some of the shortfalls.
Review 35:The location, free wifi, and meals there. Staff help was outstanding and friendly.
Review 36:Quite a few buggs. Aircondition didn´t work in the room, and no fridge.
Review 37:The staff was very friendly, and able to speak english at a high level. Nice view, and pretty close to Riomaggiore.
Review 38:Nothing.
Review 39:Nice sea view as advertised, receptionist available and of good help. Bus stop down to Riomaggiore 50 meters away. Bus stop from Riomaggiore to hotel in front of hotel.
Review 40:Very hot without air conditioning, however I understand that is commonplace in Italy. Mattress was not very comfortable.
Review 41:Location is convenient from Riomaggiore. Recommend taking the public bus and leaving the car at the hotel. View from the balcony is beautiful. Our host was very hospitable and welcoming.
Review 42:lots of stairs.
Review 43:The view from our room, four floor down, was breath taking. We left the patio doors open and let the ocean breeze blow in all night long. Even though we were on the highway, it was very quiet. It is on the bus route to go into town (15 mins).
Review 44:Since there is no elevator, there are lots of steps to go up and down each time you come or go. That's an inconvenience, not a major problem, since Cinque Terre is all about climbing up and down in each town.
Review 45:The views from our rooms were lovely and calm - very nice! We enjoyed the Inexpensive breakfast buffet on the terrasse. In an area where parking is difficult, there is free, available parking. The staff is very accommodating and they speak English
Review 46:It was out of Riomaggore which I knew, but I thought it was closer to the town. 80 steps down to the room so no wifi. Shuttles were a little confusing but the driver was nice and helped us out.
Review 47:If you want to get away from everything this is the place. Tree views and ocean in the distance. But in the evening, plan on staying there once you get there. It's a bit of a ride on the shuttle.
Review 48:This hotel is approx 3 miles from Riomaggiore. Although we had a car we could not simply drive to the town, because parking is impossible. We had to take a bus, which charged 2.5 Euros each, each way, and we had to wait over an hour for the next bus. The hotel should offer a complimentary shuttle on a frequent schedule, to Riomaggiore
Review 49:We had an air conditioned room, on the main floor, and we were very pleased. I would note however that I don't think all the rooms have a/c, and most rooms require a number of stairs to get to.
Review 50:No elevators! We had to carry our suitcases down five flights of the awkward staircases. The view was nice but it is likely the view you can get in many places of Cinque Terre.
Review 51:Proximity to the cinque terre towns was excellent. Vernazza and Manarolo are definitely the most ideal to visit. The staff here was very nice though and helped us to set up a boat trip.
Review 52:Out of town but the peace and quiet and views definitely make up for this.
Review 53:The staff were all friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and clean and we had a very nice meal in the restaurant. It is possible to walk to Riomaggiore but probably not advisable on the narrow twisty road. What really makes this hotel though is are the stunning views from the room and restaurant. Free bottle of wine on check out was a nice touch.
Review 54:Very unkept rooms, awful facilities, broken shower and door, dirty sheets, hard beds and pillows - no care given whatsoever to the comfort of travellers.
Review 55:location only
Review 56:Design is really oldfashioned. The hotel needs refreshing. WiFi is in fact absent.
Review 57:The hotel is in a wonderful place. The view is awsome. Quite tasty meals in restaurant.
Review 58:This was a perfect location for us to explore Cinqueterre and the surrounding areas as we could drive and park our car. The tranquility of the location and view from the balcony patio was incredible after a day among tourist crowds.
Review 59:bugs in room. insect bites on entire body during night. temperature 104 outside and no air conditioning. no elevator for many, many steps. breakfast not included.
Review 60:good location and good parking.
Review 61:No air conditioning Terrible location Not clean No way of getting to train (bus service was patchy and inconsistent) No shuttle service which is imperative based on its location (15 minute drive from train) Noisy hotel for paper thin walls Wifi never worked
Review 62:View from Balcony
Review 63:The hotel was less than a 10 minute drive to the town of Riomaggorie depending on where you find parking in town. Staff was friendly and the view was amazing. Adding breakfast was only an additional 5 euro per person & was a typical Italian buffet.
Review 64:This hotel is not near the Train Station or the Sea. It is 2-3 miles uphill from there. There is a bus that goes there, but it only comes back until 8pm. Also, there is no A/C and the walls are paper thin. We had loud neighbors that came in late at night...we heard every word of their loud conversations between 12:30am to 2:00 am. ....the hotel staff was responsive to moving us or asking our neighbors to be more quiet, however, and the next night was much better.
Review 65:Beautiful view from balcony. Restaurant food is great. Friendly staff. Clean room.
Review 66:We had to close the washroom door every time as it smelled very bad every time we flushed. It wasn't the water since it didn't smell when we showered but the smell lingered in the room every time. Also the fan on the ceiling did not work and it was very very hot which made it uncomfortable to sleep in
Review 67:WiFi worked properly.
Review 68:The owners of this hotel put absolutely no money back into their for renovations. Shower leaked all over the floor and the atmosphere was cold and empty.
Review 69:I liked absolutely nothing about this hotel.
Review 70:Free wifi didn't work properly. Sheets not very clean in one of the beds. Problems with hot water
Review 71:Amazing location and view Very friendly staff and eager to help
Review 72:we stayed in room 19 and the room and bathroom could use updating. Looked and felt old and tired.
Review 73:we had a sea view room and it had a beautiful semi patio with tables and chairs off the room's balcony doors, there was free parking available in a region where parking was scarce, we didn't eat in the restaurant but it had a nice restaurant/bar area, the lobby, reception area looked new and updated and very nice.
Review 74:Wifi didn't work and we had no cell phone signal at this location, expect to be "unplugged" for your time there.
Review 75:The patio and view were amazing. The location is out of Riomaggiore and we drove our car the 3 kilometers to the city. Basic room, but clean and friendly, we were able to check in early with no problem
Review 76:Smokers out on the balcony below us forced us inside both at night and early morning.
Review 77:Location, parking, relaxing on the balcony with a bottle of wine and the view. I've read complaints about the stairs but that all depends on how heavy your luggage is, no complaints from us.
Review 78:There should be a mosquito net since the hotel was located in the middle of jungle. poor wifi should be improved.
Review 79:Beutiful view from your balcony and very quite and good location free parking however quite far away from center (3km) we do not have a chance for breakfast but it seems okay.
Review 80:The view over the ocean - it was breathtaking. We got some wine from the restaurant downstairs and enjoyed the view with a glass in the hand on our own verandah. The food at the restaurant was also good as well as the breakfast.
Review 81:We booked for 2 nights but on the 2nd day there was no electricity due to the storm on d previous night, so we decided to only stay a night. Breakfast was very basic and no hot food. View from the room was good but too many steps to go to the room. The room and bathroom is very small. The only good thing is d free parking and closely located near riomagiore.
Review 82:Spacious room with a large terrace overlooking the sea. What a spectacular view! This place is a few kilometers up the mountain from town of Riomaggiore and while it was pleasant to be away from the bustle and tourists we were dependent on the sporadic bus service. Dinner was very good.
Review 83:We love this hotel. After visiting it for the first time couple of years ago we keep coming back here each time we are travelling to Cinque Terre. All rooms have a sea view and it's really nice to wake up in the morning and have a breakfast also with a sea view :) The place itself is piece and quite. The family which runs the hotel is the nicest. We are also usually trying not to miss the dinner here instead of doing it in more touristic 5-terre villages since some menu items are so much better here than in any other restaurant.
Review 84:Poor breakfast, lack of staff, quite far from town, last bus from town at 8. Riomaggiore 50min walk away.
Review 85:Free wifi, great view if the weather is nice. Nice size balcony.
Review 86:Shower could have used a curtain. It was a tub with a European type spray shower and it was hard not to get some water on the floor. Took some getting used to as to how to control it.
Review 87:Even in Oct. when we visited, Cinque Terre is crowded, noisy and full of tourists. Due Gemelli is high on a hill in Riomaggiore with breathtaking views of the sea. It is far enough removed from the crowds that it is quiet and peaceful but one can also drive a short distance and park and get into town. It is a bit of a hike downhill to reach the train and boat to get around between towns and then a hike uphill to return to your car. But we felt that getting away from the crowds to a quiet restful place was worth it. There is also a very nice restaurant on premises. The staff was wonderful and helpful. It was very clean and comfortable. There are quite a few stairs and no lift for the disabled so you need to be able to do stairs. To get to the rooms you walk downstairs as the hotel is at the top of the hill and the rooms are arranged going down the hill so each has a balcony with a view of the sea. We truly enjoyed our stay there.
Review 88:It comes with the dramatic location, but there are flights of steps to negotiate to get to the rooms. In my opinion, it's worth any inconvenience. And I'm sure the staff would be available to assist with moving luggage.
Review 89:Dramatic water views. Each room has a balcony. Warm and helpful staff, eager to assist, and reasonable english skills. The quality of their on site restaurant was a big bonus (very much enjoyed our dinner their). Excellent self serve breakfast, enhanced by the view from the dining room. On site parking. A handy, easy access place to stay when exploring The Cinque Terra.
Review 90:We really liked our room with the private balcony overlooking the sea. The food was good and we enjoyed our evening meals on the terrace. Of the five towns, we enjoyed Rio Maggiore the most. And, above all, we enjoyed the exceptional enthusiatic service provided by the family including Luca, Mirco, and David. Thank you!
Review 91:The shuttle bus that we were waiting for to return to Hotel Due Gemelli was full to capacity in Rio maggiore and we were unable to get back to the hotel via the bus. Taking the car and parking in Riomaggiore would have been next to impossible.
Review 92:The breakfasts and dinners that we had were excellent. Staff was very helpful in planning our daily sightseeing adventures.
Review 93:There were many stairs to descend to the rooms without any elevator to assist. Even harder to climb when leaving.
Review 94:The location was away from the crowds of Riomaggiore so the nights were quiet. There was a nice view of the sea from a balcony and a great sunset. The location was very close to Riomaaggiore which could be reached within about 15-20 minutes. Parking was next to the Hotel. The food in the restaurant was very good.
Review 95:Breakfast were limited and sparse. Although the food in the restaurant was good and freshly prepared, the service was slow and not co-ordinated
Review 96:The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The views wonderful, and the terrace a real bonus. A little out of the centre of Riomaggiore but public transport links were very easy and inexpensive
Review 97:Too many steps to negotiate with heavy suitcases, no screens on windows, no a.c. And dinner for 4 arrived one at a time.
Review 98:Parking, shuttle to Riomaggiore and the excellent view. Staff was very helpful.
Review 99:The air conditioner does not work-we were told this is the case in every room, so be prepared for this. It was quite warm in early September.
Review 100:The view was amazing. The staff was great. The restaurant food was some of the best food we ate in Italy. The location was good, with a bus that rode directly into Riomaggiore.
Review 101:The doors are paper thin so we were kept up every night with people talking in the hallways and common room. There was also noise from the restaurant (mainly people moving tables and chairs). We would try to go to bed at about 11pm but the noise continued until about 1am.
Review 102:The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is not very close to town but a €2 bus stops right outside the hotel so we found it to be convenient overall. The last bus from town leaves at 8pm so we ended up having dinner at the restaurant attached to the hotel almost every night. Small menu but good food.
Review 103:A nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed our two night stay and having parking at the hotel was great. The views from our room were beautiful and it was easy to get into the nearby towns via car.
Review 104:When booking a room call and ask for a top floor. The rooms are build below the reception so the lowest the floor the more stairs you have to climb/
Review 105:The hotel is located 4 km from Riomaggiore. Access is through a shuttle bus. Every room has a balcony facing the sea. Very romantic and peaceful. The staff were extremely helpful and nice Breakfast was great.
Review 106:No dislikes.
Review 107:Friendly, family run hotel. Fabulous view from room (with large balcony) and restaurant. conveniently situated for La Spezia, Cinque Terre and Portovenere. As vegetarians we appreciated the effort to provide special dishes not on the menu.
Review 108:Not a very frequent bus service to village ,parking difficult in the village.
Review 109:value for money, poor breakfast but reflected in the daily rate. Dinner in evening was excellent value
Review 110:Nothing near so everything else you need is a premium cost
Review 111:Very friendly staff Newer building, furnishings Overlook Mediterranean Sea! Real nice restaurant at the hotel Breakfast is nicely done Easy to find
Review 112:The only drawbacks were a sinking in the mattress, absence of tempered glass shower door and old pillows and sheets (linen). Nothing that prevent people from book this hotel. All other things was great!
Review 113:The parking place is a oasis! We have never found it completely full! The food was great (breakfast and dinner at its restaurant)! Astonishing view!! Big room and balcony! Enormous bathroom with bathtub and shower! Staff very friendly! They are simple and gentle people! We were treated as friends! Their efforts to understand our poor italian and their patience was a very pleasant thing.
Review 114:Though the location is very nice it is difficult to acres path where to stroll in the natural park or to access the sea.
Review 115:The room had a very nice view in the sea. From its terrace we could enjoy a lovely sunset. Breakfast was rich.
Review 116:1. There is no elevator for the rooms, so when given one in the lowest levels it can be painful to move big luggage. 2. Although it gives the place a special touch from back in the 70's, the furniture might be a bit outdated for some people.
Review 117:Marvelous view of the Mediterranean. The hotel was easy to reach from La Spezia by car (within 20 min). Plenty of space to park vehicles. Quiet, comfortable and clean room. Worth a stay to relax and enjoy the view in the morning or at dawn. The weather is cool at night even in summer, but the windows have wooden covers which makes the room quiet and warm.
Review 118:The rooms are basic enough for the price, although the beds are comfortable and there was plenty of water and clean towels. The view and the peace and quiet are the main selling points.
Review 119:This hotel is in the perfect location as a base to visit and explore the Cinque Terre. It was really easy to find even without a sat nav as it is on the main road leading to the Cinque Terre area as you drive from La Spezia. The hotel overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. It is an idyllic location. Each hotel room has a balcony overlooking the sea, one of the big pluses of staying here. A local bus service stops across from the hotel and you can get to Riomaggiore from there, leaving your car parked at the hotel. A very regular train service is available then linking the five towns along the coast. A fabulous area to visit, a real gem altogether.
Review 120:I specifically asked for a quiet room. Instead, was given one right in front of the main door - so we heard everything all night. Also, because we arrived on a holiday, they were short staffed and appeared really stressed
Review 121:The restaurant there is quite good
Review 122:The room facilities were old and not maintained well. The double bed turned out to be two single beds. The breakfast was poor and most vegetarian food was gone, even though we asked for it and showed up on time. However, upon our request, they managed to prepare some scrambled eggs for us. Comparing to other Italian accommodations, Due Gemelli had the lowest value for money.
Review 123:The view from our room/balcony. Due Gemelli is a couple of minutes drive from Riomaggiore, therefore a great starting point for exploring Cinque Terre. The staff was nice and helpful.
Review 124:Beautiful restaurant had no vegetarian options in the set menu. A lack of economical family options makes dinner in Riomaggiore very attractive, but lack of public transport makes it more difficult. Parking is impossible.
Review 125:If you're stuck with a hire car and want to see the fabulous villages, this is where to stay. Very helpful staff who were good company when watching the football.
Review 126:The hotel was 4 km away from Riomaggiore with no bus or taxi service after 8:00 pm. This makes it very difficult to schedule the day without taking a car (which we chose not to do because of serious parking issues in the coastal towns.)
Review 127:the view over the Mediterranean is breathtaking and the food was excellent. The rooms faced the sea with balconies, lovely! The staff was extremely informative and helpful.
Review 128:Room 10 is located on the street floor, adjacent to a big hall. So it's very noisy when other guests and staff speak in this hall at any time of day or night. We were constantly awaken late at night because of that. The wifi works good only in the dining hall. It's preferable to have a car for this remote location. Bus schedule is minimal.
Review 129:Ocean view. Cinque Terre bus service near the hotel but still far from Riomaggiore.
Review 130:a little old, and lack of decoration, not so comfortable.
Review 131:not far to cinq terre, nice view of ocean, enormous balcony enjoy the sunshine. very nice staffs.( who waited me to 1:30am, since I got lost with my broken GPS)
Review 132:Unpractical distance from Riomaggiore combined with few and limited transportation possibilities. Cockroaches roaming seemingly freely in the bar/restaurant. No minibar in the room. Very little sound isolation between rooms.
Review 133:Nice view. Helpful crew.
Review 134:Room needs more light and air. Also mosquito net needed.
Review 135:Very helpful and hard working stuff/owners. Great view. Good location to wonder Cinque Terre however you should care for the shuttle. They are only in one direction. Talk to the hotel before leaving. They will help you turn back to the hotel.
Review 136:No A/c so it got a bit too warm. Inconvenient to get to because walking is nearly impossible.
Review 137:Every room has an awesome view of the ocean. Room was very spacious and clean.
Review 138:It is located a little ways from the town, requiring a shuttle to get in. The shuttle schedule isn't very often so it was annoying to deal with, but the staff would pick us up often so that was hugely helpful, (only about a 5 min drive, or 10 min shuttle ride).
Review 139:I loved our balcony view and spacious room. The staff was amazingly helpful and made us feel welcome and taken care of. Really great place, highly recommended
Review 140:really far away from the seaside and without a car, its a bit hard to go the hotel..
Review 141:hotel has a big parking place and some rooms have a an unbelievable balconies..
The Fine Print
The restaurant is open for dinner only on weekdays, and for lunch and dinner on weekends. You are advised to bring your own vehicle, as public transportation is scarce.
