Reviews for Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto Shijo Karasuma

Review 1:Staff is not so friendly, quite cold. This is the first hotel that wants guest to make payment by credit card using a machine by ourself. Unfortunately, there was an error, the payment had to made by staff as normal process.

Review 2:Location is good, close to subway. The room is quite big for Japanese hotel.

Review 3:Buffet breakfast- missed out first day due to long line and tight schedule (for our tour that day), also limited options and very traditional.

Review 4:Good location, clean room, free cute toiletries on checkin (bath salt, headband, etc), close to subway, nice food across road (Azito- downstairs- must try the soy noodle soup!), Donburi for teppan and Starbucks for good coffee, across road from Viator pickup hotel

Review 5:Staff don't speak any English, breakfast was not included in the room rate, which is already high :( Bathroom looked like I was on a train. Overall would never stay there again, I like hotels to have a character, and Daiwa Roynet doesn't.

Review 6:Not much to like or dislike, a nondescript hotel, really. Very far from the station, but easy to find - one straight line from Kyoto station. Subway is expensive (240 yen one way per person for the two stops); close to Gyon and the Nishiki market. Very clean hotel though.

Review 7:Cold, empty. And more importantly I was charged 3 times for the room and the hotel never helped. I had to pay on a machine (I guess that's trendy but honestly I couldn't care less) and said machine twice said "error" even though my Visa is from a Japnese bank account. After two errors I was instructed to pay by cash at the reception. Next day I found the two card payments had gone through and my account had been charged. The hotel said they would contact Visa but they never did and now just telling me to handle by myself. Thanks a lot.

Review 8:Clean, calm, silent, close to subway.

Review 9:Price is ok. Morning breakfast cost extra yet still too crowd. Need to pay to atm like machine not at the counter.

Review 10:Very clean. Close to under ground railway station.

Review 11:If there is a breakfest include this price, it should be perfect.

Review 12:Nice and large rooms according to Japan hotels, hotel is in a perfect location that you can walk to many places. And there was a super restaurant named "Donguri" in front of the hotel.

Review 13:nothing.

Review 14:Absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. It was close to the subway and bus which made everything very convenient! Stayed 6 nights at this place. In room Wifi and friendly staff. The restraunt downstairs was delicious and lawson is just downstairs too.

Review 15:I liked everything. They don't have breakfast but there are so many good restaurants in the city that this wasn't a problem.

Review 16:The staff is nice. Room vas on the small side (that's Japan ), but comfortable and well equiped with nice bathroom.

Review 17:The personnel does not speak very well english. It is enough for check in or check out, however, should you have a special request or need for touristic information, you'd better google it... shame.

Review 18:-multi device power supply included in the room -self service laundery -quiet

Review 19:Good location (5min walk to Nishiki market, 15min walk to the Gion area), clean & good smelling bathroom with very nice toiletries, and I just love the remote controlled toilet seat!!! :) And of course, the money changer in the lobby.

Review 20:If I have to be nitpicking, perhaps the pillow is a tad little too hard to my liking.

Review 21:To begin with, I carelessly left a bag of fine chocolates in the Shinkansen while traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto. After checking in, I tried my luck asking the receptionist to help contact the Railway Company and see if it's possible to send the chocolate back to Kyoto. The receptionist was very kind as she rang the Railway Company straight away and much to my surprise she managed to get the chocolate delivered back to the hotel 2 days later. Thank you so much for your relentless work and I hope you enjoyed the TimTam as a token of my gratitude :') In terms of the room, it is one of a kind as it comes with an extremely spacious shower room and well-thought amenities. I also enjoyed the breakfast with an extensive selection which costs only 1000 Yen for each adult. Given the price we paid, this hotel has certainly done beyond phenomenal to make the guests feel welcome and special. Suggestion: Pay a bit more for the Standard Twin Room instead of the cheapest Hollywood Twin Room as the Standard Twin is superb! Also, if you're looking for scrumptious Chinese food, try the Toh Lee 桃李Restaurant which is opposite of the hotel!

Review 22:Had some issues with communication with the staff member about parking. Was advised when we got there that there was no parking left. They don't assist you with finding substitute parking leaving you lost for a few hours trying to figure out how to pay for parking in the back streets. When we got to the hotel room, the room smelt like cigarettes and they denied that it did saying that all the rooms smell the same. After complaining they changed our room for one that didn't have the smell.

Review 23:Comfort of the bed and size.

Genial.

Review 26:Location, near subway station. 2 convenience store near hotel. But little bit hard to find something to eat near the hotel because restaurants nearby a little bit pricey

Review 27:The location buses and an underground station made getting around very easy. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the areas delights. Delicious restaurant.

Review 28:We asked to get Breakfast tickets, but were told breakfast buffet was busy. We didn't get breakfast tickets. No room services for luggage and amenities.

Review 29:Location is great. Hotel and room were clean, staff are nice. Rental bicycle shop is near this hotel. Sightseeing Kyoto with a electric bike was awesome!

Review 30:it would've been great if they had English translation to some of the manuals in the room but then again, it's not expected/required.

Review 31:Location, comfort of the room, cleanliness and service of its housekeeping staff

Review 32:Walking distance to Karasuma Dori & Gion. Small room as expected, but very neat and clean. A business hotel with everything you need. Staff friendly on check in, check out is automatic via a machine. Good value.

Review 33:I do wish it had been more centrally located - the description was a little misleading.

Review 34:The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, and it was very affordable. Easily the best option for the price while staying in Kyoto.

Review 35:No complaints.

Review 36:Location perfect. Staff helpful and knowledgeable. Clean well serviced room. Lovely restaurant onsite although a little more expensive than some. The food is beautifully presented. But then of course, this is Japan what else does one expect. Lol. Wonderful stay.

Review 37:nothing

Review 38:luxuary ,new hotel ,pay bill hotel through the machine(credit card or cash),access elevator using key card, modern room, lawson and 7/11 are nearby, check in 14.00pm and check out 11.00am

Review 39:The bed was very uncomfortable. Noises from adjacent rooms were disturbing.

Review 40:The location is good, there are good shopping areas within easy walking distance as well as the Kyoto Station. There is a Metro stop within 5 minutes walk. Lots of good restaurants within a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Review 41:This hotel surpassed my expectations by leaps and bounds, especially since the room rate was so low, and I thought it would be a bare minimum inn based upon the price alone. And the WiFi service is excellent. I'd highly recommend this place and will be staying here again next time I'm in Kyoto.

Review 42:No bar or area to relax in except for the lobby.

Review 43:Good Location close to subway. Bus system also good. Lots of places to eat nearby. Breakfast was good and reasonably priced. Room was small but adequate for our 3 night stay. Would consider an upgrade if staying there again. Wi-fi excellent.

Review 44:Nil.

Review 45:The bathroom at least bigger than other hotel. Distance to Kyoto station just 1.4km, to save some money, just walk around 15 minutes can reach city center. Besides, this hotel near shijo which full of great food and shopping.

Review 46:I ve been there from march the 15th to march the 20th . Best position to visit kyoto . Daewa is a business hotel . Quite , silent , close to stores and markets . Sugested ! And if u can include the breakfasts when u reserve !

Review 47:Friendly staff, fast free Wifi in room, Kyoto is an easy block system so very easy to walk around and find your way back. If into visiting temples there is one 3 min walk behind the hotel. Rooms were large.

Review 48:None!

Review 49:The location is especially convenient right opposite a convenient store, a drug store and Shijo subway station. Gion, Nishiki market and kawaramachi all within 10mins if walking distance. The room was fantastic, one of the most spacious rooms we have stayed in Japan compared to other hotels of the same category.

Review 50:I like the beds and the room with great facilities. I've read the cleaning principal card and found the hotel very thoughtful. I enjoy every minute of my stay here. Also the location is not bad.

Review 51:Room was a bit small but we didn't only really used the room for sleeping so no problem.

Review 52:The hotel was in a good location for the historical sites as well as Gion. Public transport was easy accesible. Staff were really helpful when asked for advice. Internet connection worked very well. Great shower.

Review 53:Nothing

Review 54:The hotel very clean and new. Room are large compare to japan hotel. Beds are comfortable. Location also very good near to gion and kyoto station. Infront of hotel is restaurant try to breakfast there. Delicious and value for money coz restorant at gion quite expensive

Review 55:Only two pillows provided for the double bed! A little too flat, nicer if each room had four pillows.

Review 56:Location, good quality fit out of rooms, convenient location for buses, the subway, amenities. Decent japanese diner on the ground floor

Review 57:Hard pillows. The staff look like a robot, doesn't have hospitality attitude.

Review 58:Location, near by the subway station, easy to get taxi, close to many convenience stores, not too far from nishiki market.

Review 59:dusty luggage rack

Review 60:Location - just around the corner to Shijo-dori, bus stop to take to Kyoto station, helpful staff, more space than most places for a standard room, selection of women bath supplies

Review 61:3 minutes walk from subway station. There are convenience stores in walking distance. Hub bus stop near the hotel so it is a good choice for tourists who prefer bus as transportation in Kyoto. Good breakfast that includes western and eastern food.

Review 62:The staff is not very helpful when you ask for an information not related to hotel.

Review 63:Near the metro and not far from Gion and Ponto-cho. The rooms are clean. Good value for money. The wifi was working well.

Review 64:Slight downfall were the extremely hard pillows and mattress but that could be down to Japan's culture.

Review 65:Great location - 5 minute walk from bus stops and only a 20 minute walk to Kyoto's central train station. The room was very well equipped - had everything you could possibly want/need and more. Exceptionally clean too. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke great English. Checking-in and out took less than 5 minutes. Overall it was an excellent stay.

Review 66:Upon request, very quiet room. Room and bathroom size in the japanese standard. Extremely clean. Very comfortable bed and furniture. Very well equipped bathroom. Highly recommended.

Review 67:Nothing.

Review 68:Brand new hotel, clean, comfortable, and with the larger rooms of the Japanese standard, a 10 min walk from Gion district and 2 min from metro station, close to many points of interest. Perfect.

Review 69:Size of room but for japan and a 3 star hotel we can say the room was standard size. Highly recommended
