Reviews for Royal Park Hotel The Kyoto

Review 1:Bed was a little hard but that could be a matter of personal preference

Review 2:Location can't be better and hotel very comfortable. Loved the coin operated laundry facilities too.

Review 3:They charged me much more than as agreed on the day of the reservation, they didn´t at the next hotel where l stayed in Tokyo. Arip off.

Review 4:Its location and its bathroom, the rest looked cheap. The room needs refurbish.

Review 5:Nothing!

Review 6:The rooms were small, but very funtional and clean. The location was excellent, within walking distance to multiple stations and lots of shopping and dining options.

Review 7:Excellent location at the main shopping district and near the shopping arcade for souvenirs. And very near the subway train station too. Can take subway to hotel but we chose to take a taxi because of our big suitcases, and taxi to the hotel is approximately US$15. I will definitely choose this hotel the next time I visit Kyoto again.

Review 8:Walls are a little thin so you can hear the people next to you if they are talking loudly.

Review 9:Great location! Friendly staff and well equipped rooms. Definitely recommended!

Review 10:Outstanding service from the Front desk staff and the Concierge, excellent recommendation for touring Kyoto by taxi. After checking out and heading to Tokyo, the Front Desk staff emailed me that I had left an expensive jacket in the room and they delivered it to my hotel in Tokyo in less than 24 hours. Many thanks to Chise Tsujimoto and Hayato Nonaka for their stellar help and prompt assistance!

Review 11:A room service option would of been good and rooms where a little small, but this is standard in Japan.

Review 12:Great hotel and in a suburb location of Kyoto. So many good bars and places to eat and close to the subway. The staff where excellent and I HIGHLY recommend staying here.

Review 13:Rooms where pretty tight for one adult and two children ( older 9-14yrs). A little further from main train station but could have caught a local line to close by but we caught a cab which was only 1600yen so reasonable .

Review 14:So close to lots of restaurants and lots of local shopping as well as dept stores right at your door. Clean, modern and great laundry facilities to do your own.( which was the first we had found in 8 days of traveling)

Review 15:Amazing location, the best hotel we stayed in throughout our trip. It was comfortable and elegant for a 4 stay hotel. We had a comfort triple room. The main shopping streets, subways & bus stops were only a few minutes away. If you are arriving via JR Kyoto station, this is not within walking distance, be prepared to pay for a S$25 taxi ride from the train station. We can down from Osaka via subway, so it was only a 5 to 8 min walk from the subway station. Gion is 15 to 20mins away on foot, but it is such a pretty walk along the river. Only complain is that we didn't have a view. The problem is how to keep this property an exclusive secret from now on! It's that amazing.

Review 16:the station instruction wasn't helpful, better to take taxi from kyoto station if you bring a lot of luggages

Review 17:the staff were great, very helpful. the place was just excellent, many restaurants near hotel and gion was just around the corner, around 10 minutes walked

Review 18:The rooms were smaller than I like when I'm staying for more than 1 or 2 nights. It's hard to keep the room tidy enough for a cleaner to come in.

Review 19:I loved that you could opt out of having your room cleaned for a day and received a voucher for the bar or restaurant in return. It meant not having to have our room tidy enough for a cleaner to come in everyday.

Review 20:If I have to say, maybe the view from the room. But what can you expect from the building in the busy central location?

Review 21:Convenient location for shopping and eating, and also bus stops are nearby for many sight-seeing locations. The hotel is very modern and clean. The bed was very comfortable to sleep in.

Review 22:The room can be a bit bigger and I wish the toilet seat temperature can be adjusted -- it was a good idea with a warm seat, yet it was too warm for both of us!

Review 23:Location, location and location-it is situated at a wonderful and convenient spot! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, willing to dispense info and help with reservations.

Review 24:I had room 204, which early on the Saturday and Sunday mornings (12:30am to 5:30am) received excessive noise from the lane way / restaurants. You really need the beauty sleep to enjoy the site of Kyoto. Distance from the main station is a reasonable distance and costs over 2,000 yen one way

Review 25:Free water, beds and room were comfortable and reception staff were excellent. Location is across the road from the undercover malls.

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:Very good location- close to all the shops and restaurants Very easy to catch the many buses to all the tourist attractions Every night they replenished our complimentary water bottles and gave us new night shirts to wear Would definitely stay here again Nice cafe outside of hotel

Review 28:Very good location for day and night. Superb room condition and service. A bit higher price compared to other business hotel in Japan but well deserved it!!! Need to book well ahead of your stay because of its popularity

Review 29:The room is spacious with modern interior and location close to metro station, shopping malls and halal Japanese restaurant. The coin operated washing machine and dyer is very handy and easy to operate.

Review 30:- I requested to upgrade into Deluxe room at the front desk but given the rate slightly expensive than in Booking.com - the restaurant staff need to be more responsive

Review 31:- the location is strategic in the city center, near subway station and major temple - buffet breakfast menu selection were sufficient - the room interior is modern - the front desk speak English fluently

Review 32:I travel widely in Asia but this 4-star hotel has the smallest twin sharing room for 2 persons. Considering the amount being charged per night, a bit expensive since breakfast was not included.

Review 33:Location is good and staffs are generally friendly.

Review 34:The room's nicely decorated and hotel located in an area close to everything. Helpful staff and good service to send my delivered package directly to my room.

Review 35:I love this hotel, and stay here every year when I come to Kyoto. Staff are helpful and kind. Rooms are comfortable. Location is great--convenient to public transportation, so easy to get everywhere.

Review 36:A small thing is the room is quite warm. With AC set to the lowest temperature, the room felt warm. As soon as I walked out of my room, I felt cool breeze. ... so is the AC not working completely?

Review 37:About everything.

Review 38:The hotel is located at a great location, 5 mins walk to two mtr stops and lots of food around. Shin shin do, a backery shop is just down stairs and offers great breakfast. The hotel room is quite large compared to general Japanese standard. Will stay with the hotel again when visit Kyoto next time.

Review 39:We booked Lady's room and we like the amenities very much. The location is good, not too far from subway, market, shopping area etc. And Mr. Brent was kindly assist us booking several restaurants. I myself like the interior design of the hotel.

Review 40:Nothing to dislike about this property.

Review 41:Central location to shops and restaurants, women's 8th floor, laundry facilities on 2nd floor, small but relaxing lobby, room's furniture design, arrangement, and comfort, large bathroom.

Review 42:nothing!

Review 43:Location, size of the room, friendly staff, comfort, price everything! There's nothing bad i can say about this place. i think above everything else it was location. This place was so convenient to bus, train, major sites, great food. I traveled in a group of 8, and everyone felt the same. I did book this early, so i got a really good deal. i think i paid around 170 a night for a delux twin so that was just the cherry on the top! it was total value for money!

Review 44:With the exception of an English speaker on staff and one other evening staff it was hard to communicate with front desk staff in English. But Concierge was excellent and thought one step ahead to make stay enjoyable.

Review 45:Very clean hotel with great location for subway and central sites. Quiet rooms although on central street due to sound dampening windows. Did not ever hear noise from neighboring rooms. Comfortable beds.

Review 46:Rooms were very tiny - and I've stayed in many Japanese hotels. They do not have to be this tiny. Bad design. Bathroom especially is poorly designed. Staff's limited English created confusion a few times

Review 47:Location was great.

Review 48:Nothing.

Review 49:Hotel almost feels boutique. very good check in, clean and best of all, location. We enjoyed walking the neighbourhood and it was easy to access public transprt. Our room for three was very comfortable and clean. Good shower pressure.

Review 50:The only downside I could imagine is that it is a little bit of a walk to the train station but its only 5-10 minutes.

Review 51:The Location was wonderful, the hotel was comfortable, and the price was great! It was very nice to be able to walk to Gion and we loved some of the nearby restaurants. If you want to spend a little more the breakfast buffet at the hotel is really good too.

Review 52:night staff should speak English more effectively, we had a small misunderstand and it took a bit of time to communicate with the night shift. but all is find she tried and it work!

Review 53:We like your location, decoration, staff very helpfull

Review 54:Room was clean overall, but the wallpaper looks a little run down. I am just being picky perhaps.

Review 55:It is within walking distance to the Sanjodori, Shijodori and Pontocho. Plenty of shopping and food option. Staffs can speak really good english and are very helpful.

Review 56:The only thing I would improve is the length of the check in time - a bit too long.

Review 57:Everything! The beds, the bathroom, the amenities, the bar, the reception staff (particularly the management), the location, cleanliness, comfort, courtesy, the look of the hotel. Will definitely stay again. We didn't opt for the hotel breakfast, but there is a gorgeous yummy french bakery cafe adjacent to the hotel that still has hotel WiFi. We ate there every morning.

Review 58:nothing.

Review 59:Location- both bus stop & railway(Keihan line) were within 2~3 minutes walk and riverside and pontocho are just next to the hotel. Gion is also walkable distance. I had a breakfast at the bakery on the ground floor. Bread basket was the best thing and I ended up buying so many breads after breakfast. Room was very clean and sort of spacious considering how small business hotels are in Japan.

Review 60:Not enough space to put our luggage.

Review 61:The room is small & compact but has modern decor with minimalistic touch. Good sized & clean bathroom. Airpurifier that doubles up as humidifier.

Review 62:A little inconvenient if you need to travel far as it's not close to Kyoto station.

Review 63:Very good location to explore gion and going to various temples.

Review 64:Nothing to complain about

Review 65:Located very central and next to many places to eat, shop and visit. Pontocho area is only a 1 minute walk away. Gion is also in walking distance. The hotel is very clean and modern. Breakfast was delicious and both Japanese and Western style.

Review 66:Very good location. Theres laundromat. Staff are more than capable to guide you to where you wanna go and also help with making reservations. Spacious room!

Review 67:Great location (near to Kawaramachi Street and in 5 minutes walk you are in the Ginza Neighborhood), comfy rooms and beds, well equipped bathroom and very kind staff (the staff booked me a table in 2 restaurants and helped me in everything i needed.

Review 68:Had to pay for washing machine & dryer, only 100 yen but need coins to operate. But that was the only negative.

Review 69:Good English from all staff. Great modern room services. Free room wifi. Good size room. Clean. Good bed & pillows. Washing machine & dryer available. Good size bathroom. Nice towels and toiletries. Mirror demisters.

Review 70:Beautiful hotel decor. Friendly staff and room well stocked with everything you need. Perfect location for restaurants with bus stop just around the corner for access to tourist attractions.

Review 71:we were in our honeymoon (it was mentioned during the order) and they gave us a single beded room. I excpected from a hotel in this standart that will try to find this kind of faults.

Review 72:Prime location, nice rooms, good WiFi

Review 73:Small room, and its odd floor plan. No drawers. No door to closet.

Review 74:The staff are courteous and helpful. The location is right in center of shopping, restaurants, near the scenic Pontocho alley, Gion district. Room is clean and nicely apointed albeit small. Comfortable beds.

Review 75:the breakfast is almost the same everyday, but I was there for a course (over 2 weeks long) so even so it's the "same" everyday I would say it helped know what I want and run to class.

Review 76:everything was great specially the shower !

Review 77:Little space in the room for luggage, though in our case we didn't have much anyway.

Review 78:This is a very nice hotel, stylish, with excellent location. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Review 79:If I would have to think about anything - I would prefer shower than bath tub in the bathroom :)

Review 80:Absolutely fabulous hotel - the stay was just PERFECT!

Review 81:Only down side is that subway from Kyoto station requires a change and did not find it as easy to figure out as Tokyo had been. Explicit directions on hotel website about where and how to change and price would help. Took taxi back to station at end of stay and it cost less than $10 (US), but there wasn't traffic at the time.

Review 82:Location with a bakery on one side and a supermarket on other side and kettle in room. Could make our own light breakfast and store yogurt in mini fridge.

Review 83:I liked absolutely everything!!!

Review 84:We stayed on our honeymoon and the staff continued to surprise us with incredibly kind gestures (flowers, chocolate, champagne...)! The overall service is impeccable, second to none.

Review 85:A very very excellent hotel in a marvellous city. Very close to downtown. A lot of restaurants near. Very good staff. Incredible breakfast. Very kindly.

Review 86:The stuff didn't speak English well so we struggled at times to communicate.

Review 87:The location is great, close to the river, shops, restaurants and bus stops. The room was very confortable and good size

Review 88:The only thing my darling wife wanted was a clothes draw for her small's I'm happy to leave them on the floor!

Review 89:Excellent location Very comfortable rooms Efficient staff Perfect for our 4 nights in fantastic kyoto

Review 90:It's not a ryokan. That's about it I would say. Oh and we had a twin bed which could not be pished together due to the wiring of the bed stand although we would have preferred a kingsize bed.

Review 91:The location is great, not fate from shopping, 2 minutes to the river, 5 to Gion. Great location. Also, we had a great concierge. I cxannot say enough good things about her. She gave us all the good recommendations and really hung in there to book things, keeping in mind all out preferences. Thanks again!!!

Review 92:It's a shame that yhe bar is a small crammed room from which uou cannot see the great view. Same goes for the restaurants (it faces the other way from Tokio tower). Unfortunately, staff was not very efficient reserving restaurants etc. claiming reaervatins could not be made or restaurants were full etc. we always tried ourselves then and always got through despite difficult English communication. They sent us to the fish market an hour too late. So we got up super early, but were clearly too late. That was quite disappointing.

Review 93:The location is great to explorethe city with many subway and local train connections in the building complex. The hotel is nicely located from floor 25 upwards. Staff is friendly. Rooms are nice.

Review 94:Coming back to this hotel for the second and definitely not for the last time. The interior of the hotel is very modern yet very cozy, the rooms are spacious and the beds very comfy. The very friendly, attentive and helpful staff makes it perfect. Near the hotel there's a lovely bakery with a great offer of pastry and other morning sets. Also there are a lot of good restaurants not far away.

Review 95:Free wifi very slow. Hotel staff - despite courteousness otherwise - not always effective in problem solving (e.g., making reservations for dinner).

Review 96:Beautiful facilities - very well maintained, clean, modern. Excellent location - great for transport connections and shopping.

Review 97:Reception area a little dark and sterile. I stayed in several hotels in Japan and found this one had the least personal feel. Perhaps it's because there are so many tourists.

Review 98:The great location.

Review 99:A stylish hotel in an excellent location, very close to bus stop taking you to Kyoto station and onward travel.Lots of places to eat within a short distanceof the hotel, great shops including designer, department stores and smaller souvenir shops...something for everyone.

Review 100:It is a very smart modern hotel in a good location. There was interesting original artwork in the public areas as well as in the bedroom. The bar was good and there was a wide range of food for breakfast. The staff were very helpful. The hotel is within easy walking distance of a large range of restaurants. It is a short walk to the metro and buses. We would recommend this hotel to the independent traveller.

Review 101:Breakfast paid separately and It was good but not superb.

Review 102:Room size was good and bed and pillows very comfortable. Shower-bath separated. Everything clean. Nice overall experience.

Review 103:Curteous staff. Especially the porters were extremely polite, helpful and friendly. Amazing city views. Excellent room size and away from the bustle of Tokyo

Review 104:Room was quiet & comfortable, & the air-conditioning was effective despite the hot weather. Location is very convenient to shops, cafes & restaurants ("Apollo Plus" in Sanjo Dori was excellent). We initially found our way to the hotel on foot from the subway station without difficulty; but taxi back to JR station was not expensive either. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. We would happily return.

Review 105:The room felt a bit old (the one we got) but nothing that takes away all the positives about this hotel.

Review 106:Location was excellent, the twin room was spaceous for two adults plus a 1 year old including luggage and stroller.

Review 107:As first time visitors to Kyoto we found this hotel was central to most of what we wanted to see and do. Two subway lines are within easy walking distance, great restaurants and bars in close proximity, as are the markets.

Review 108:Great location, near the markets, shopping! Close to Sanjo station / bus to get around to all the touristy spots!! Clean and spacious twin room for a Japanese hotel.. Comfy bed and pillows.. Staff are very friendly and helped us on how to get to places or booked cabs. We love this hotel and would recommend it to everyone. I will definitely be back!!

Review 109:No bad experience, but I wish there were more washoku options at the breakfast buffet.

Review 110:SUCH a convenient location, really in the middle of everything. A perfect Kyoto base.

Review 111:There are no services at all in the hotel other than room cleaning. However, a 24 hour supermarkets right next makes it easy to buy water orfood. Some service would have been nice for a 4 star hotel though

Review 112:Location is perfect. Right next to one of the main roads, 2 minutesfrom the nearest metro station. Size of the rooms were good. Goodvalue for money

Review 113:The staff has been the most helpful I have ever seen. They managed tochange room so our daughters would be on the same floor as us. Then mydaughter lost her phone in a taxi. The taxi company who dropped us atthe hotel called the hotel later to let them know they had a phone. WhenI contacted the hotel they coordinate everything so the phone gotdelivered in our new hotel!! Even if we checked out already from ThePark hotel and the phone was not lost in the hotel. Amazing! Thank youso much to The Park Hotel!!!

Review 114:Close to shopping, Gion and the temples. Just over the bridge from the Sanjo subway station. Easy bus access to Kyoto Station. Well priced at 117,000 yen.

Review 115:Room was a tad small for three adults.

Review 116:The location of this hotel was awesome. It is right off of Kawaramschi Dori the main shopping and entertainment area.

Review 117:Will definitely book again next time we visit kyoto.

Review 118:everything was just splendid and marvelous here. exceptional facilities inside the hotel.Location was excellent, walking distance to all amenities.Staffs were professonal and speak good English. We only paid for two but was surprised that they prepared the extra set for my daughter as well.strongly recommended, especially for family with kids.

Review 119:Wifi was very unstable

Review 120:It was my mum's birthday during the stay and they gave her some flowers and a nice message, didn't really expect that but it was very nice of them. The room was of decent size and the location was very good

Review 121:This hotel is located very convienantly next to stores, shops, and the subway. The staff was very helpful and the rooms looked very nice with great views of the city!

Review 122:if there is one or two coat hooks on the toilet door will make this hotel perfect.

Review 123:The hotel is very well-designed, looks very smart. The room is very clean and spacious. The thing I most love about this hotel is the toilet! Toilets in Japanese hotels are usually very small, yet, the toilet in this hotel is very spacious and clean. I'll stay in this hotel next time I go to Kyoto for sure. 5 mins walk for metro station, very convenient!

Review 124:The bed was the worst part, with uneven surface and deep hole in the center (need replacement). Considering central location view from the window was mostly to tha back side of nearest buildings.

Review 125:We liked location, kindness of staff, comfort of the room, cleanliness and breakfast choice. Extremly large room comparing with usual standard, but it was on Premium floor and probably different from "standard" room.

Review 126:Smallest room we stayed in during our trip, window looked out on fire stairs that were used for people take a smoke break so we had to keep our curtains closed.

Review 127:Location, staff efficient (rather than friendly), room clean and comfortable

The Fine Print

The full amount of the reservation must be paid when checking in.All rooms are non-smoking. Designated smoking areas are available in the basement and on the 3d floor.
