Reviews for Whitianga Campground
Review 1:The accommodation was doubled booked but the alternative accommodation was not up to standard with 3 bunk beds in a small shack room with shared shower for four rooms and outside toilet. We were offered to upgrade but would hv to negotiate for 360 and although the man was helpful the downstairs was not at all what we wanted and shabby. We have subsequently looked at trip advisor and comments made are worth you checking.
Review 2:We rented a Chalet for nearly $200 per night, It was rather run down, the bathroom needs a total update as do the towels provided. No face cloths or Iron provided. Couldn't find a iron anywhere in the camp.
Review 3:Nice and Quiet. The camp kitchen was very clean. Unfortunately some people steal utensils from there, which makes it hard for the camp to supply all that is needed in the kitchen.
Review 4:Felt grubby, looked grubby and most things contained, like cutlery, cups/mugs/glasses etc. were all different and very much second hand. The carpet was well vacuum cleaned, other things like the light cord were filthy. The unit we got had no linen, which cost extra and the photographs on the web page, didn't represent what we were given.
Review 5:We were tired and needed to sleep.
Review 6:Totally overpriced. Advertising was misleading, stated 2 studios with shared bathroom. But was 1 studio with seperate communal bathroom. Pots were dirty. Bed mattress broken. Showers not working or eating tokens
Review 7:Location about the only good point
Review 8:The door was off its hinges and we had to fix it to get into the room and the bottom of the door had a break.
Review 9:We liked the comfortable bed and the BBQ facilities were very good. We also like having and outside deck
Review 10:Appliances very old, we boiled water on stove rather than use kettle as kettle was filthy inside and we thought we might get sick if we used. Old and dated.
Review 11:Having a shower and toilet in our cabin, & sink etc
Review 12:The cabin needs to be updated and cleaned properly. The locks on the doors were very mickey mouse and didn't work properly The price is unjustifiable for what you get. The lady running the place was drunk or had been drinking everyday day of the stay. The gate was locked at night and they wouldn't tell us how we could get out of there as we wanted to go and watch the rugby as the place doesn't have sky. We told the lady that we would be leaving early in the morning to watch the rugby she just told us to park outside as we wanted to leave at 5am.
Review 13:Nothing I would not recommend this place to anyone
Review 14:We stayed on night at the Whitianga Campground. We had our own Cottage with a nice bathroom. It was quiet in the night and the bed was comfortable. We would come again,if we ever go back to New Zealand.
Review 15:Heater didn't work. Ranch slider locked itself so locked ourselves out going to loo in the night. Campground a lot further from Whitianga town than I thought. Facilities ok, but for $105 a night?
Review 16:Unit a little dated. needs a total cleanup, now only partial facade.Too soft bed, when a person turns around, the other jumps .A little rude staff only in appearance, but then underneath it ironic and sympathetic. still too expensive for the quality of service.Elsewhere, at the same price, were best apartments
Review 17:location,near sea sound ,quiet, private area outdoor, ironic staff and ... Wonderfull and unforgettable stars in a cristal dark blue sky!!!
Review 18:Staff were a little rude initially, room had a leak over the bed and it rained the first night. Wifi could only be accessed at certain parts of the park due to the poor connection
Review 19:good location and the cabin was reasonably comfortable. Also the kitchen facilities were sufficient for cooking meals
Review 20:Single bed needs replacing. Can feel all the way down to the slats so used fold out couch.Could do with some fumigation.Large cockroach found and dispatched.
Review 21:Very central location.Basic but had everything we needed after all it's just a place to sleep.Very quiet.
Review 22:The bed was old, stained and smelt. There were all biscuit crumbs at the back of the settee. It was very dark at night outside as there was very little lighting to guide you to the facilities.
Review 23:Location was nice and quiet and close to the sea.
Review 24:The staff weren't very friendly. The cabin needed a good clean. Surprise left in toilet and there were numerous bars of old soap left in shower.
Review 25:The cabin had full kitchen facilities and bathroom and 2 separate bedrooms. Was nice and roomy.
Review 26:Units were tired and old. Lights didn't work, 3-pin plugs didn't work. Vacuuming under beds were poor. General thoughts are.........drive on and don't stop here!
Review 27:Location was good
Review 28:A tad pricey. Wifi worked only sometimes and then only near the office. Single beds better for kids than for adults.
Review 29:Very quiet the night we were there. I suppose that could vary depending on the other folks camping and staying in cabins.
Review 30:The cabin was poorly kept. Ripped sofa broken curtains. Poorly equipped. For $150 a night it was so overpriced he had from $65 at gate and had put prices up for long weekend and concert! We got 2 shower tokens each for two days you had a 5 min shower and no hot water on second day ! The manager was so rude and unfriendly I would not recommend this place!
Review 31:Nothing
Review 32:I made the reservation under my husband's name so I take it upon myself to make these comments. First off - the women who was in charge on the day we arrived was nothing but rude and obnoxious. I have no tolerance of this sort of behaviour from anyone so had no hesitation in giving it back and more!Cabin 7 - pathetic shower. Some pressure on hot but once turned down to warm the pressure was very weak and felt as though the water was going to stop after only a few minutes and whilst I was in it. Deck looked straight across to women's toilet so whoever went in there could be seen - really crass with no privacy at all for us and them. Most lodgings, camping grounds etc have a noise curfew - this one clearly didn't and the neighbours along with other campers were drinking, talking more loudly than was needed and played horrible thumping music until about 1 - 2 am. Not acceptable. No pets allowed - someone had an animal as there appeared after we arrived, dog poop on grass area where we were shown as our parking space. Nobody seemed to go pick it up. Grime around most surfaces - toilet, bathroom and kitchen. A jar of coffee with the contents cemented together because it was so old should have been removed months ago. Lounge suite had obvious dents in the armrests, table belonged in an antique shop or the dump - can't quite decide. Piles weak and needing lots of work - building on a lean and most noticeable in the toilet. For the outrageous price charged per night and unfortunately it was a holiday weekend which I didn't realise at the time I made the reservation, this place needs to be ranked/graded or inspected by a professional hotel inspector as they have in the UK or someone from AA/Jasons or whoever is advertising these places.
Review 33:Nothing really.
Review 34:There was never anyone at the office. It is very run down and out dated. The kids beds were terrible although ours was ok. Location is not ideal for the beach or the shops. I'm glad we only stayed one night.
Review 35:The price was good but I'm glad I didn't pay more. The facilities were clean.
Review 36:1. On arrival found that people occupying our booked room had been allowed to stay another night. The proprietor refused to shift them to another room. Offered me alternative options which were well below standard (grotty) In the end he gave me a nights free rent in a grotty, tiny, single room well below average. 2. Staff member up on a ladder on roof asked me to move my car as he stated he was painting . I didn't know he was painting on roof and expressed my surprise. He replied ' Well what did you think I was doing on the roof". His remark and tone was rude and my 11 year old son picked up on it.
Review 37:Weather
Review 38:Booked online $210 per night. but the real price is $105 per night. After an argument, he upgrade me one $150 unit. No money difference refund. Deal with the owner Mr. Grant with care.
Review 39:Smelt very musty and furniture is very old. Like visiting the home of elderly relative. Lots of old bits and pieces lying around.
Review 40:Bed was comfy and clean.
Review 41:It was cozy and clean, and also spacious. The ca retaking family was very friendly and helpful. The price was good, under $100/ night. It was close to everything.
Review 42:The bed was like sleeping on the floor The linen was old and pilley not matching The toilet was leaking Had to go to office and ask for remote for TV Cockroaches found Needs a lot of care on the grounds and gardens Not very professional land lords
Review 43:Shower was really great, Kitchen facilities were really good,Quite location Can see potential in upgrading this property.
Review 44:Lovely little camp ground. Friendly & helpful staff. Tidy cabin. Powerful showers which is amazing!
Review 45:No bedsheets, room just vacated 1 min before we checked in at 6.30 pm. The room stinks like rotten eggs.
Review 46:Grubby , messy and didnt enjoy the cockroachs in our bed
Review 47:Location
Review 48:Dirty and old unit, overprized, unfriendly stuff.
Review 49:Iit was near the beach, but still a 30 min. walk to the town centre
Review 50:The unit had been closed up and had a strong musty smell which we could get rid of. The eating utensils were not clean.
Review 51:Over priced for what you got. Needed a good clean. Woke up to find mice poo all over our stuff and it had been into our food!
Review 52:We have liked everything.
Review 53:TV VERY HARD TO USE/ OPERATE
Review 54:QUIET AND HANDY TO SHOPS ETC
Review 55:the room is big and clean, staff is very nice
Review 56:I liked the cabin - it felt quite roomy
Review 57:The owner was not friendly at all. That was the only downside!
Review 58:I enjoyed being so close to the beach!
Review 59:it was the end of February and no crowds
Review 60:Attitude, dirty, too many rules. Free WiFi but it would not connect. Very disappointing.
Review 61:Location.
Review 62:Very 80s
Review 63:Staff, weren't your usual friendly campground owners
Review 64:No soap. The place had not been cleaned properly.
Review 65:The character of the cottage
Review 66:No linen and then tried to charge for it, despite no mention on website. Dirty smelly cabin, not as booked, which stated 2 queen beds and a single. We got a bumk bed and single. Outside cabin, were shabby dirty looking caravans which looked like permanent dwellings. The entire campsite was tired and delapidated. We would never go back to this place.
Review 67:Nearness to a fantastic beach and lovely town.
Review 68:The welcome was absolutely apauling! We arrived after a long drive from Auckland in rush hour only to be greated by the most unpleasant, rude woman who tret us like we were a complete burden and had interupted her tv program not paying guests! She didn't want to know anything about us or our journey just our creditcard! Then we got to the room.... We could tell it was the room that had been advertised however using photos from 50 years ago! There were cockroaches in the room and ants crawling in the seal of the fridge! Filthy! I would have gone elsewhere if we had the option but not being familiar with the area and it being pitch black we didn't feel that we had any choice! also, on the door to the front office there was a huge sign that simply read "no refunds under any circumstance" I should have guessed at this point really! Do Not stay here! It is not worth the money and is without doubt the worst place i have stayed at!
Review 69:The only thing remotely pleasant about this place was the dog they had; this was the only thing that was friendly and welcoming!
Review 70:The bathroom was dirty but the shower was hot.
Review 71:Good location to the beach but not so handy to shops. Stayed in cabin. We didn't take bedding (couldn't find any mention of needing to on the web site and thought the photos showed bedding. they kindly supplied the bar essentials at no extra cost). Very basic, pretty much worth the money I guess but nothing special. Shared bathroom with other cabins and campers in the area. Clean toilet, and cabin, just very tired and in need of a good going over with a wallet. Lady staff member very nice.
Review 72:We were not made to feel welcome when we arrived. The lady did not evensay hello. Cleanliness was not to a very good standard. The cabin had alot of cobwebs & spiders. The blankets in the cabin smeltunclean...we didn't use them because of this. The toilet &shower rooms were not very clean either.
Review 73:It was in a good location. The place has great potential. The bedwas comfy.
Review 74:No free wifi.
Review 75:The lady who managed the camp was very friendly and helpful. We absolutely loved the 4-person cabin. It was cozy and beautiful. My daughter had a great time on the trampolines. You can walk across the street and are on the beach.
Review 76:Standard and cleanliness of accommodation. Fridge not working but was not replaced during our stay.
Review 77:Great location Overall presentation of the site itself although it looks 'tired'
Review 78:Firstly our booking was not reserved we did not get a bathroom as booked sheets were not provided showers and toilets were basic at best location was a bit further out of town than implied by advert would not go again
Review 79:Being told I was not booked into the studios in a rude way. The spiders in the studios were established there meaning they had not even been cleaned out before our stay. Not having my children included in the booking after speaking to the owner by phone. We know where not to book next time.
Review 80:The location for our activities as we were travelling out during the day
Review 81:Beds and furniture were not the best and many spider bites. Perhaps the many cobwebs in the room and shared bathroom had something to do with bites.
Review 82:Left us alone.
Review 83:Could do with a spring clean to get the mould off some of the walls.
Review 84:The cabin we stayed in was large, plenty of room, great location and a great shower and good facilities.
Review 85:The cons of our stay - we had brought our own bedding (sleeping bags and mats etc) but they supply a bed and mattress inside the tent - which were filthy. They were covered in all sorts including insects and mold. We left these to the side and were lucky that we had brought our own bedding. Our tent also had a rip in the roof which we had to fix ourselves as the rain came down heavy overnight. Overall, it was fine because we were barely at the campground and we slept ok in the end. It was a camping trip at the end of the day so we were open minded. But for the money we paid to have these issues I think isn't great. They definitely need to maintain the tents and its equipment a bit better. It wasn't the worst but I would look elsewhere to camp the next time.
Review 86:The pros of our stay was definitely the location - this campground is so close to Whitianga Town Centre, 5 min drive or 15 minute walk with an amazing view. We had booked a tent for something different, and the size of the tent was really good. There were plenty of facilities also available.
Review 87:Shower was limited to 5 min. Toilet had no soap. No toilet roll holder. Pillows and sheets didn't look clean. Bed was really sinky and had no support.
Review 88:Good location.
Review 89:The premises were grubby - cob-webs, dirty windows, mouldy shower base,sandpaper-like towels, - shall I go on ? The nightly rate was very highfor the standard of the premises. However, it was well located for ourneeds and we were only there to sleep.
Review 90:The premises were well located in regard to another large family groupwe were visiting.
Review 91:The entire place was great we will return
Review 92:furniture, beds, linens & towers are well worn out. smell of damp
Review 93:size of the cabin
Review 94:i liked sitting on the deck of the cabin we stayed in .Dawn was good to our little son giving him a ride in her buggy, goin for a walk to the beach.
Review 95:The toilets & shower did not look or feel clean
Review 96:Roomy cabins
Review 97:The camp ground needs a facelift and many things need replacing .
Review 98:The staff were friendly and cooperative . The beds were comfortable and clean.
