Reviews for RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto
Review 1:Located very close to the JR Kyoto station. Convenience stores nearby. Great staff. Room size is good. Lots of hangers in the closet. Could even open the window to air out the room.
Review 2:Had a wonderful time at breakfast in the 360° panoramic restaurant with my girlfriend at the top of the hotel. Good location near the main station of Kyoto. Very polite, delicate and professional staff.
Review 3:The staff could be more friendly ,aircon in the rooms.Water bottles complementary in room.
Review 4:The location right next to Kyoto station ,Pick up and drop off for sightseeing tours.
Review 5:Not well worth the price.
Review 6:Located near Kyoto station, about 10 mins walk. The room is very spacious and very clean. Staff can conduct English conversations, and answer various questions regarding Kyoto in English.
Review 7:Staffs have no sense of hospitality. It is just a Japanese businesshotel but at 4 stars price. When I check in, hair was found on my bed.The bell man immediately took away.
Review 8:The fact that you had to pay to use the pool was a disappointment. We had looked forward to that and with the money we paid for our room we thought the pool should be gratis.
Review 9:It was a perfect location and breakfast was well worth the money. The shuttle bus made it easy to get to.
Review 10:I could not use the swimming pool because I have tattoos. This was especially disappointing because, as I was on vacation with my 9-year-old daughter, I specifically picked this hotel because of the pool. While I understand Japan culture has some reservations about the use of public bathing facilities like spas and swimming pools, if you are catering to Western foreigners (as they were in Booking.com), one should be prepared to accommodate Western practices and culture. Today, tattoos are very much a part of Western culture and pose no threat to the public. If you insist on prohibiting tattoos in your swimming pool then state so in your Western description so someone selecting your hotel on the pool criteria can be advised in advance.
Review 11:Close to Kyoto station which is great for getting around the city and surrounding areas.
Review 12:The rooms are not comfy. Beds are tiny and mattresses are lumpy. Therooms smell. We were first given a smoking room, which absolutelywreaked. I had to do some serious negotiating to get us a non-smokingroom without paying for a suite. It smelt musty and awful. We ended upchecking out as a result.
Review 13:A bit of noise coming from the nearby railways at night but never too annoying. Not all the staff can communicate in fluent english but they have always found the way to help us.
Review 14:Room at the 10th floor was bigger than usual japanese standards (about 23m2). The view from the window on the Toji Temple was amazing especially at night. Room was very clean and also the prices of the minibar were not very high for a 4 stars hotel. 10 min walk from the Kyoto Station on straight way and very close to 3 of the major Temples.
Review 15:We were given a less superior room than what we booked and to upgrade to what we originally asked for we were asked to pay extra .
Review 16:Very central to the main Kyoto Train Station for travel just about anywhere and also which has a vast shopping complex and also other shops in the vicinity
Review 17:The bed was very hard. We had a late flight so we left our luggage with reception, went out for the day and hiked up the hill at Fushimi Inari Shrine. We asked the staff when we returned if we could use the shower in the pool change room to freshen up before our flight and they refused.
Review 18:The location of the hotel is very convenient, close to Kyoto Station with a free, regular shuttle service. The room was large and well appointed.
Review 19:Could hear noise from guests in hallway, unrenovated, few modern features, approximately 4000yen for room service of bowl of chips, four pieces boiled veg, palm size of beef & gravy, air conditioning couldn't be adjusted
Review 20:Central location, friendly & helpful staff, shuttle bus service
Review 21:Ordered non smoking & someone smoked in the room. Beds were very uncomfortable. It was away from everything not close. Need to catch shuttle to go to station to get to Main sites. No shops around.
Review 22:Cheked in to a stinky smoking room initially since no other rooms were available. But the staff granted out relocation request so we spent a second night in a clean non-smoking room.
Review 23:Location relatively close to the station. Beds are really comfortable.
Review 24:very uncomfortable beds, spring mattress, back sore every morning. swimming pool was not free ( very expensive £12 adult, £6 child) . it was adverstised as free and it appeared on my search list when i selected swimming pool.
Review 25:location, cleanliness, lobby was beautiful decorated.
Review 26:Girl at check in wasn't very friendly. Called us over then continued on with what she was doing for a few minutes before she acknowledged us. Thought it was quite rude!
Review 27:Motel was alright. Clean and tidy. Walking distance to station. Motel did provide free shuttle though.
Review 28:Older hotel where everywhere you can smell old smoke even in the non smoking areas Otherwise a nice stay. The hotel shuttle was great except didn't know about it till after we walked to the hotel from the train station and breaking my suitcase handel!!
Review 29:The revolving restaurant food amazing. Was my birthday and was very special
Review 30:We ask for a non-smoked room, and when we call to be sure we have a non-smoke room, we where told no need too, because there plenty non-smoke rooms, end up in a lie, because by the time we check in all non-smoke rooms where taken I had to go to JR station run into a very help full pharmacy, and buy a can of fabreeze to have the trip I eempty the whole can into the room , spray every where, basically fog the room, left for few minutes and return to enjoy happiness without the stink of smoke!! Sorry but thats the sad true!
Review 31:Very nice hotel Wonderfull Staff except for the dumb that told us they have plenty non-smoke room and ain`t true
Review 32:The room was out dated for the amount of money paid per night. Not comfortable at all. Not worth the money spent
Review 33:Location was good short walk to Kyoto station. Lots of restaurants in the station.
Review 34:The fact that they only had a blower in the room for air. No air-con. Called front desk & they said all rooms were like these. Advised to just open the window which could only be opened for about 4 to 5 inches.
Review 35:Free shuttle to the train station but despite the number in the chairs, people would just go to the bus without following the numbers.
Review 36:Our bathroom had a constant bad smell of drains and not many English Chanel's on TV but apart from that a really good hotel.
Review 37:This hotel is good value for money and the complimentary shuttle bus to Kyoto Central is very handy. Free WFI is great. They have a revolving restaurant at the top of this hotel which is very nice.
Review 38:The hotel was dull, very basic facilities. Price per value was OK, but the meals at the hotel were above average price. Also, the breakfast was very simple, and the food was below average.
Review 39:The concierge was very helpful, and spoke multiple languages fluently. The hotel was very well located only meters away from the train station and the Tokyo tower. Bus lines to major temples were nearby. Rooms are spacious, and with a touch of Japanese style.
Review 40:Would like to have turned down the heat in the room but could only find low, med and high buttons. A little hard to sleep as we were so hot. Would like to see instructions for the humidifier and air control, if any, in the guest book.
Review 41:Easy walking distance to kyoto station and coin op laundry. Didn't eat at the restaurants though so can't comment. Coeliac family so easy to buy fruit and cooked rice at the station supermarket downstairs.
Review 42:None
Review 43:Quality rooms with a friendly and courteous staff. Location is not ideal as it is about a 10 minute walk to JR Kyoto Station. Shuttle service is excellent and runs very efficiently every 15 minutes.
Review 44:A stroll from the station, minutes from major stores and malls, short walk to two fantastic temples, luxurious lobby with dining & shops, Sky restaurant with sky access walkway is a must.
Review 45:The pricing at the hotel restaurants was a bit high. For this reason, I only ate breakfast at the hotel. (The quality of the food was very good.)
Review 46:The facilities were very comfortable and the location was convenient to the train station, restaurants and shopping. Several tourist sites (temples) are located near the hotel and we enjoyed walking to visit them. The market at the To-Ji Temple on the 21st was a special treat. Unfortunately, I do not speak Japanese but did not have any trouble conversing with the hotel staff. The shuttle bus to the train station was very convenient. The hotel lobby was nicely decorated for Christmas and I enjoyed the anniversary video made by hotel staff.
Review 47:Air-con was not available during winter. So room was stuffy with the heater. Bed was also not firm.
Review 48:Location is good. Could leave luggage overnight at no charge while we stayed at Ryokan for the nite.
Review 49:-shuttle bus only operate up to 9pm, may be should extend another half hour
Review 50:-comfortable beds, with spacious room -cosy ambiance -very clean -shuttle bus service from Kyoto station
Review 51:hotel a bit old; no complementary water, charge for green tea bag and drinking waters.
Review 52:Free hotel bus to Kyoto station at 15 minutes interval; good customer service; clean room.
Review 53:Room stuffy due to air conditioning is centralized and unable to adjust to a lower temperature.
Review 54:Free hotel bus feeder service is available between Hotel & JR station.
Review 55:Restaurant, including breakfast out of price. Hopefully, plenty of good restaurants in the train station area (a monument of modern architecture).
Review 56:Good standard. In a walking distance from Kyoto train station plus a shuttle bus appreciated to carry your bags.
Review 57:Wanted to stay longer
Review 58:We had a small child and the hotel have us a free room upgrade! Shuttle bus was awesome Very close to train station Can walk to a nice temple
Review 59:Buffet breakfast excellent, but may have to wait for a table in the Restaurant.
Review 60:Comfortable convenient place to stay in Kyoto. Very good amenities, handy shuttle bus or short walk to station. Helpful, friendly staff.
Review 61:Bery uncomfortable bad. Old air-conditioning system. Rooms need redoing. Rhiga needs to spend some money updating theor rooms. Restaurants in hotel all very expensive.
Review 62:Short walk from Kyoto Station where all public transport is available.
Review 63:The food served in the hotel is very average - be it the buffet break-fast or in any of the restaurants and extremely expensive. So suggest people eat outside and avoid as much in the hotel. The room service does not pick up the phone easily and nor do they speak in English. Our aircon was not working that great and the staff couldn't get it better.
Review 64:Our room was comfortable though the aircon was not cool enough. The location is excellent and station being walking distance apart from the free shuttle definitely helps.
Review 65:Restaurants were way too overpriced
Review 66:Just as you would expect of a high class hotel. It has a shuttle to Kyoto JR station which was very useful. Also day tours come to the hotel for pickup
Review 67:The toilet door is not very good-designed, troublesome. (room 826)
Review 68:Many many. First, the lady manager of the guest relations, whose desk is beside the reception counter is very friendly and helpful. And she speaks very good Chinese. My wife and I thank her very much. And ......
Review 69:The room is big enought but the bed isn't very comfortable.
Review 70:The location of this hotel is quite good, close to the main train station and all transport facilities. Lot of shop nearby and easy to find some restaurants and coffee shop.
Review 71:Pillows were to soft.
Review 72:Great hotel with 2 children. Great location, walking distance to station. Shopping and restaurants close by. Very convenient. Room was big enough for 4 people.
Review 73:Was going to cost us NZ$20 per person to use the pool each time. We didn't bother. But why have a pool and then make it cost prohibitive to use?
Review 74:Close to Kyoto train station, with the shuttle bus running at 15 minute intervals or walkable if you wanted. Room and Wifi were fine. Great for accessing places like Osaka, Nara deer park, Arishyama monkeys etc.
Review 75:Nothing
Review 76:The size of the room was fantastic for us as Australians. We are used to a larger room size provided by Rihga Royal, service outstanding. Close to the shops, trains and next to a fantastic bike shop recommended by the hotel where we hired electric assist bikes to travel around to see Kyoto's magnificent temples, the most memorable magic holiday thanks to this hotel.
Review 77:Beds were not very comfortable. All onsite restaurants were very expensive.
Review 78:Close to Kyoto Station with free shuttle every 15 minutes to and from station. Nice, clean rooms with excellent staff. When asked for extra blankets and pillows, they were delivered within 10 minutes. Also close to Aeon Mall that's good for shopping and inexpensive meals.
Review 79:Some of the decor looked like it needed updating.
Review 80:Friendly staff, comfy beds. The location wasn't near to many of the main tourist sites, but it was convenient for Kyoto station.
Review 81:Aircon was weak and had no temperature settings No room safe available, only the general hotel safe
Review 82:Shuttlebus to and from the station Generally clean with helpful staff
Review 83:Travelling with 3 young children, we were very disappointed about the pool charge. One visit cost us about $70.00US. Then, while in the pool, the staff watched us like hawks to make sure we followed rules re: bathing caps, lanes, etc.
Review 84:Great location to train station and to a few small restaurants. Train station and bus station are next to one another and the bus will take you to any temple, area, etc. around Kyoto.
Review 85:The hotel could be slightly near to the station. (But it was not far at all in British standard. I am just trying to find small faults. It took us 7-8 minutes on foot. Also there is a bus going every 15minutes from the hotel to the Kyoto station.)
Review 86:It was what we expected the hotel to be in Japan. Clean, polite stuff and comfortable.
Review 87:A bit small for 4 beds.
Review 88:Very near JR station. Walking distance but a hotel shuttle also available to and from the hotel all day. Very near shopping malls and restaurants.
Review 89:The beds are too old that sag in the middle and not firm to Japanese standard Swimming pool are charged and not included for customers.
Review 90:I love the free shuttle bus from kyoto station outside MacDonarlds which runs to 9pm The room is big for Japanese standard and has many restaurants on site. The staff are super friendly and will cater for all your without accepting tips. There is a convenient store and a coin laundry a block up from the hotel. Just ask the bell boy or girl for direction All good and cheap eating places are need the station and under the bus station If you want to travel with japan, a JR rail pass is a cheap way to travel. City buses are also easy to use with a map and bus number to all tourist locations

Review 102:It's expensive for a normal 3.5*
Review 103:Location is closed to station. Easy acces to any part of the city

Review 105:Location and shutlle bus very efective
