Reviews for Hotel Marco Polo
Review 1:Room (suite) was very noisy (one could hear every word at the reception) and much less nice than the pictures made it seem. Breakfast room is too small and understaffed. The sauna was in an entirely different building and very expensive for such a small facility (20 euro p.p.). 'Private parking' entails two reserved spots in the street. Generally, the room was way too expensive for what you get.
Review 2:Great location
Review 3:We have been placed in a boutique room at the 2nd floor of the dependance, where also SPA centre is located. Constant smell of chlorine in the stairways. Furniture in the room is used up (table was terribly scratched). Breakfast room very, very small - people have been standing in queue to get a seat. I would not go there again.
Review 4:The Pizzeria across the dependance of the hotel.
Review 5:Excellent location, Arena & Piazza Bra are 5 minutes walk, Railway Station 20 minutes walk. 1 hr 10 mins by train to Venice, 15 mins to Lake Garda both very cheap train fares for round trips. Doumo (Furthest walk we took across Ponte Vecchio, along riverside maybe 40 minutes, everything including good reasonably priced cafes, restaurants, supermarkets all close by. Staff outstandingly helpful whatever was needed. Great little shower that worked perfectly. Comfortable bed, clean bed linen and laundry daily, kind of old fashioned in a way but not to be found in a 5* star hotel today as a normal service. Breakfast good if a little hit and miss from time to time, love the milk in the bottle in the ice bucket and the thoughtful Gluten free corner on the breakfast bench. Don't worry about anything here, go with the flow and the place will wrap itself around you like an old favourite coat. Highly recommended, Molto bene !!!
Review 6:very friendly reception great location: 5min walking to the beautiful historic center clean and comfortable rooms book a parking space before if you travel by car!
Review 7:Rather difficult to find if you don't have sat-nav. Room could be better sound proofed, dog barking woke us 3 times.
Review 8:Ideal location, bang in the centre of the city.
Review 9:The room was quite small, bed against the wall. The view from the window was terrible. The breakfast was very poor. Croissants made commercially out of a bag, scrambled eggs like rubber.
Review 10:Nothing at all.
Review 11:Beautiful, stylish and in a quiet location very close to major tourist sites, this is a lovely hotel but what makes it truly special are the amazingly thoughtful, helpful staff who provided us with a 20th anniversary treat and me with a surprise birthday cake - wonderful personal touches.
Review 12:In room brochure very poor. Parking was not actually at the hotel as we thought but in a public garage 500m away. It felt a bit like an annexe to a sister hotel (no bar / lounge etc)
Review 13:Aircon excellent, location brilliant, decoration was practically new. Staff helpful and gave good restaurant recommendations.
Review 14:This is a small hotel and small does not give anyone the right to assume boutique, which it isn't. It's a lovely small hotel and you get what you pay for.
Review 15:You get what you pay for. It's clean and comfortable for a couple of nights but wouldn't stay any longer, but that's personal choice. The location was perfect and the staff very pleasant and helpful.
Review 16:Superb location just off main square in quiet corner of city. Good quality hotel and facilities with a nice touch of style. Spa not included in our deal and too expensive but looked a nice facility Giardino Giusto a must - wonderful gardens to visit
Review 17:Difficult to find with directions provided as street names were different to those given and no sign on Hotel- get a detailed Verona map before you go or get a taxi
Review 18:Very clean hotel with much needed air conditioning. Just outside old town so all attractions very accessible
Review 19:Very friendly staff, especially the Italian gentleman at front desk. Helpful in booking our wine tasting tour. Excellent location, clean, modern, comfortable.
Review 20:We were given a room on the spa area across the street but the man on the door was grumpy & not very welcoming. No coffee or tea making facilities. The safe didn't work and they tried to fix it but it didn't work.
Review 21:The room was lovely and comfortable. Paid extra for the spa and it made the day.
Review 22:The place is fine but the pictures online don't exactly represent the facility. It's not quite as luxurious as it appears in the pictures. They also provided a terrible photo copied map of the city?
Review 23:The wifi is very good. The bed and towels were very comfortable.
Review 24:Aircon settings were poor. Couldn't adjust to cooler. Hotels should provide a foldable rack for drying laundry. Bathroom small but well appointed.
Review 25:Easy walking to lovely Piazza Bra and the Arena. Very clean. Parking station for our car was an interesting, good experience!
Review 26:Television news channels for the International traveller, sky news, bbcnews, cnn news and euro English. We understand we are not travelling towatch television but we enjoy switching on the television/radio inEnglish in the morning and after our night out on the towns culturalsights. Also a kettle with tea and coffee would be a super touch for theBritish/Australian/South African visitor.
Review 27:We especially enjoyed the spaciousness of the room and bathroom. Theextreme cleanliness and spaciousness of the hotel is truly a luxury. Thefact that there was a generous variety of gluten free products atbreakfast (Dr Schär) was extremely thoughtful. Well done. The younggentleman at breakfast was friendly, kind and extremely willing to bringus our choices of Italian coffees and capuccino'S. Thank you! Wewill definitely return.
Review 28:Free Wi-Fi code is working only 24 hours for ONE device. For second one you have to pay every day of stay. Even when booked double room. The breakfast was served in the basement, where didn't smell good. The place has no windowns and it's very small. Trainees' girls on the reception totally not helpfull.
Review 29:Good location, close to center but still quiet.
Review 30:Room deco was basic and not as shown on the hotel website
Review 31:Friendly staff, a walking distance to main attractions in town and car parking available (not free)
Review 32:No ventilation or windows in bathroom, a bit steamy but otherwise new and clean bathroom
Review 33:New clean rooms, good beds Location excellent Car garage (with extra price but anyway) Breakfast OK, friendly personnel
Review 34:no free wifi
Review 35:beautiful decor, very comfortable beds, rooms great. Breakfast was bountiful and varied. Fabulous quiet location right near the centre of Verona
Review 36:In room number 14 if you are high as I am 1,78cm you can't sit properly on toillet seat because showercabin is in frontof it.I was hitting glass with my knees.not much of a problem, we were there for one night only but since you are asking...
Review 37:Breakfast was really delicious and you offer so many options and varieties of food. You made my day. Thank you.
Review 38:Wifi - need to keep logging in can be annoying. Occasional noise at night can disturb light sleepers.
Review 39:Friendly staff, comfortable classy rooms, location - easy walking to all main venues.
Review 40:Wifi a bit annoying that you have to log in each time you use. Ask for a quiet room, we had a room on ground floor in new building across the road from the main hotel due to my companion finding stairs difficult. However there is a lift. Can be noisy at times if you are a light sleeper.
Review 41:Perfect location for exploring Verona. Well appointed modern and very clean, comfortable rooms. Staff all charming and very helpful. Breakfast good
Review 42:Excellent location. Stuff is friendly. Very clean rooms. Good breakfast. Silent street right near the center of city. Very good wi-fi. Big parking nearby (if all hotel parking lots are reserved).
Review 43:The bed began to squeak which became cumbersome. The staff were very troubling and made the beginning of our trip unpleasant.
Review 44:I thoroughly enjoyed the spa. It was small but well equipped. The location is 5 minutes from the opera house which is prime.
Review 45:@ bathroom was quite dark despite ligths @ breakfast was OKish @ no slippers
Review 46:@ central location and convenient to any need @ nicely decorated rooms @ value for money and free wifi
Review 47:Nothing to complain about.
Review 48:Helpfulness of staff. Proximity to the historical centre and the amphitheatre. Breakfast with a good selection of food. Assistance to find a room for a second night despite the fact that the hotel was fully booked.
Review 49:The room was on the ground floor with high windows which felt like a basement. The shower was very tiny with glass doors, but they were difficult to shut so water ran all over the floor.
Review 50:The staff were very professional and responsive. The room was very nice and comfortable. The hotel is located on a quite side street but a short walk into the historic center of town. The breakfast is served in a nice basement room.... No windows, but it was a pretty good hotel breakfast.
Review 51:Fantastic price for a big room with all the comforts. Was a great location within walk of both the main arena area andvthe train station. Staff were great upon our late check in giving us a great idea of where to get a late dinner at a fantastic pizza place only afew 100m away.
Review 52:Not all rooms look exactly like the ones advertised though they are still nice enough and comfortable. The breakfast...hmm! There was variety in the spread but the fruit was far from fresh along with some of the bread too. The egg and bacon, even though it was kept under cover, did not stay warm if you weren't down there soon after it being put out. A disappointment for otherwise a good standard of hotel.
Review 53:Location within very easy walking distance to centre but far enough away for a mostly quiet location. Rooms are nice, comfortable and clean. Staff helpful.
Review 54:Whilst being very handy for town and a comfortable enough hotel, it does not represent great value for money for what you get when in our case we paid 224 euros for 2 nights in late October. The smoke and mirrors regarding what constitutes a 'Superior' Room was frustrating especially as this was supposed to be a special treat and the room was infinitely smaller than the one in Bologna we had the previous 2 nights. Marco Polo itself is a symmetrical building with 16 rooms divided equally on 4 floors so how can there be 3 room categories by square footage? I was not the only person during our stay to question this and whilst staff were very polite, it made no sense to me and I do still believe the main building itself only contains standard rooms and those across the road above the Spa are the 'Superior' ones detailed in the marketing which other reviewers have pushed to be relocated to. Generally a quiet side street, but there was morning delivery noise at 5.30am to the hotel itself + noisy refuse collection at 6am even with windows shut, so get a room at the back upper floors if you can. No tissues in room, half full mini bar (they had 'run out' of wine and snacks we were told), toilet paper not re-stocked (had to go to reception to ask for some), shower was badly blocked to point of overflowing which whilst they fixed it on request, it should have been spotted by housekeeping so we didn't have to wash our feet in bidet on the first morning.
Review 55:Superb location for all main attractions. General Cleanliness. Staff courtesy. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty but having only 8 small tables in a small room and 16 bedrooms may cause issues at peak times.
Review 56:My only complaint is that the room was supposed to have A/C and it wasn't working well. It was only blowing out air, not cool air.
Review 57:The room was very clean. The hotel is located in a small street, but very central. Breakfast was good. Good value for money.
Review 58:Excellent location and acceptable price are the biggest advantage of this unique hote. Small, but clean and comfortable hotel will help you to spent unforgettable vacation in Verona . Only few steps from "cita antiqua" next to Piazza Bra and Verona main street. Excellent breakfast includes warm croasants and fine cakes. Warmly recommend to everyone who visit Verona a and don't want to pay prestigious and luxur hotels, but to be ta athe middle of the Verona life.
Review 59:We stayed at ground level and it was very noise from lobby and from the street. The room was tiny and the breakfast room is also very tiny.
Review 60:The staffs were very helpful, there is a lift, good breakfast
Review 61:Driving up to the hotel was very difficult. Thank goodness they were able to provide parking.
Review 62:The room in the annexe was excellent. The facilities could not be faulted. it was a complete surpise and good value for money.
Review 63:No complaints.
Review 64:The Hotel Marco Polo is so well placed in a quiet side street, but within easy reach of the amphitheatre and all the other amenities in the centre of Verona. The staff are charming and helpful.
Review 65:breakfast was a little minimalistic and hallway outside the room was sometimes a bit noisy in the morning when staff were cleaning. Also there was no 'do not disturb' sign, so we had to wait for the cleaning staff to knock on the door to ask them to come back later
Review 66:excellent location, friendly staff, very clean, air conditioned room, generally quiet. Would definitely recommend and go back there.
Review 67:The parking ticket we had ... Verona is not a great city if you have a car!
Review 68:Everything. A great and extremely clean bedroom. And a very friendly staff.
Review 69:receptionist rude unhelpful small rooms ok even if paid economy prices not really like pics on booking.com disappointed paint coming off in some areas in the bedroom fridge that didnt keep drinks cool breakfast had to ask for a coffee wasnt offered
Review 70:extra pillows in wardrobe
Review 71:The hotel rooms are expensive. There is no view and you could feel claustrophobic especially in the rooms on the top floor as the roof beams slope down into the room. Bathroom is small and very compact!
Review 72:Location. Tucked away down a side street - this however made it difficult to find, but it was central. The rooms are modern and have everything you need.
Review 73:Facilities were not working No ice available(machine broken) Invoice not issued(printer broken) Was later emailed. Lift stopped working once.
Review 74:Very little.
Review 75:No downside. Everything was above expectations
Review 76:Location Quality and style of our room and the hotel in general -- we stayed in a building across the road from reception Extremely helpful and pleasant staff
Review 77:Room was dark and dirty with blood on mattress sheet, old jewellery on the floor and previous guests hairs littering the room . Street noise from room was overpowering. Staff member on reception was completely disinterested when we aired our complaints and explained things poorly. Breakfast was awful no fruit and stale bread.
Review 78:Location was excellent
Review 79:Being moved to the apartments meant breakfast required calling the reception to send the electric car to collect us (so we had to pack up early).
Review 80:On check-in, we were directed to the secure underground parking garages opposite but then told we had been moved from the hotel into one of their apartments 10mins away - to which we were chauffeured in an electic car! The apartment was pleasant, with a "kitchen in a wardrobe" (electric cooking rings, microwave etc.), small living area, bedroom and bathroom. Both hotel and apartments are 10mins walk to the Arena.
Review 81:Difficult to find when we first arrived in Verona Bathroom was small
Review 82:Hotel was clean Close to Piazza Bra and the Arena Easy walk to all attractions in Verona Good breakfast
Review 83:Noise every morning as they set up the breakfast. Not too bad though.
Review 84:Incredibly nice and helpful staff. Nice rooms with comfortable beds. Location was good -- away from the center of town, but convenient to everything.
Review 85:Air conditioning poor. Small breakfast room. Poor choice hot food.
Review 86:Superb location. Close to opera. Has car parking. Breakfast included. Good refurbishment.
Review 87:Absolutely no foreign TV channel was functioning - no alternative was proposed for this malfunctioning (newspapers, DVDs).
Review 88:Location was great - very near to the Arena. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 89:Arrived to a room that had not had the linens or towels changed from last guest. No night porter - key card to front door didn't work so had to go to sister hotel for aid. Processed packet pastries for breakfast.
Review 90:Location
Review 91:The hotel staff was a bit in a rush all the time, no parking lots avaliable near the hotel (city parking is not far away but needs additional payment)
Review 92:Nice room decor, clean room itself, good breackfast, located very close to the citycenter
Review 93:Hotel accommodation is very expensive in Verona during opera season.
Review 94:Location very convenient to the arena, we were in Verona for the opera. Staff very friendly, speak good English and breakfast very good.
Review 95:The breakfast was excellent as were the staff and communication prior to arrival. Thank you for an altogether great experience
Review 96:Everything about this hotel
Review 97:From 9 pm to 7 am there is no recepción service. Nobody in the hotel to solve any situation. More than a hotel they should write B&B
Review 98:No bad experience.
Review 99:Location and ease of access.
Review 100:Great value
Review 101:Nothing to say
Review 102:Everything is perfect in this hotel
Review 103:I was expecting a bigger Jacuzzi but the one in the room was not bad at least was clean thanks
Review 104:It does not have transport from the airport and back.
Review 105:The shower was amazing and the bed was great.
Review 106:Parking not available, needed to make it clearer on booking the facility that parking needs to be reserved
Review 107:Location, staff, facility
Review 108:A little noisey early in morning - tho typical of Italian slid floor hotels.
Review 109:Location - 5 mi walk from Verona centre
Review 110:No parking
Review 111:Excelente localização
Review 112:Room photo's on website quite misleading, ours was nothing like picture.
Review 113:location of hotel, and friendly staff
Review 114:Breakfast was unimpressive.
Review 115:The location and the view with large well equipped rooms.
Review 116:Breakfast room in basement without window.
Review 117:Comfort and quiet of top floor room in annex.
Review 118:Facilities and room was very basic for the price.
Review 119:Cramped bathroom.
Review 120:Fairly close to the Arena but still quiet. Good space for hanging clothes. Pleasantly decorated room.
Review 121:expensive
Review 122:location
Review 123:Everything: beautiful and spacey room with very comfortable bed, lovely, very modern spa facilities and fantastic staff.
Review 124:No facilities for an evening but lots nearby.
Review 125:Quiet, clean, tidy.
Review 126:No very friendly staff and poor services provided
Review 127:Good location
Review 128:Staff were amazingly rude. No hospitality at all. Total disgrace.
Review 129:Easy and affordable parking.
Review 130:Hotel lacked atmosphere
Review 131:Room was comfortable
Review 132:Bad coffee at breakfast...
Review 133:A certain charm, nice staff and its prime location
