Reviews for Village Kyoto
Review 1:Breakfast did not suit our Australian taste. Pillows not the comfiest.
Review 2:Close to public transport, with friendly helpful staff. Room was an adequate size for our family of 5 and beds were comfortable. We all used the provided pyjamas. The fridge and microwave in the room enabled us to purchase from the 7 11 next door and eat dinner in the room.
Review 3:The toilet was a little small and may not be too comfortable for a big guy like me. Also if it is you first time there you may have troubles lugging heavy luggage around (like i had) the different train stations before finally reaching the hotel. One tip: take bus 28 from Kyoto Train Station it will reach opposite the hotel. Do not take another train upon reaching Kyoto station as it is a more ardous route esp if you have many luggages!
Review 4:The rooms were really comfortable and i really enjoyed sleeping on the futon beds. The rooms were also really clean when we got there. Overall the hotel is nice and comfy esp after a long tiring day exploring Kyoto.
Review 5:It was a bit cold in the room, but we could use an air conditioner. Breakfast was poor
Review 6:Good location, you can easily walk for about 15 minutes to the city center.
Review 7:The staffs were nice. Breakfast was delivered to the room and it was delicious. The room is big enough for us and it was a nice experience to stay in Japanese style room.
Review 8:Parking arranged by the hotel was full when we got there. It was not clear at the time of booking that it was limited and based on a first come first serve basis. But The staff was helpful to solved the issue and found a solution for us. Breakfast was included in the price but it was poor and not tasty. We tried all the options available in different days but none of them was good
Review 9:Very nice and comfortable japanese beds. We liked the yukatas too.
Review 10:The family room is just the right size for a big family such as ours. Good location being close to the local station to go around Kyoto attraction highlights.
Review 11:We had a traditional Japanese room, but it had lots of extra padding for comfort. The room was large and clean. The bathroom in the room was also of good size for Japan. The cost of this place is so reasonable for the accomodations and breakfast. Modern feel to it and great location! I would highly recommend this place.
Review 12:Room was extremely small. Becoming a bit old and tired. Value for money not great.
Review 13:Location is good - not far from center. Japanese style room had excellent matrasses.
Review 14:It just a simple breakfast, it will be great if hotel improve better breakfast. Btw it good enough for the price they offered
Review 15:Good location and value for money
Review 16:Nothing.
Review 17:Village Kyoto locates near Omiya Station (Metro-Hankyu Kyoto Line) and Randen-Shijo-Omiya Station (Tram). All the facilities is super clean and new. Our room is on 10th floor which comes with a nice view. It is spacious and comfortable. The public hot tub is a plus advantage. Don't miss it! Breakfast boxen have been directly delivered to the room on time as we booked. Their appearances may look like supermarket meal but they are tasty enough. The staffs are very polite and helpful. One-day (bus and metro) ticket can be purchased at the lobby counter. It also sells ticket for Toei Kyoto Studio Park on discount.
Review 18:At first I was skeptical about the place especially the sharing of toilets and kitchen and if the kids will like it. But when I was there, the place was amazing. It was clean and well equipped. It was more of a self service thing. Staff were nice and polite. Sharing toilets was not a bad idea especially a family of 2 young kids of 9 and 15 yrs old. They loved it especially with their double bed. It was a good experience for us. Location was good and it was about 10 mins walk from/to the train station. Overall it was awesome!
Review 19:My husband felt itchy when he woke up on the 2nd day morning - said the bedding was not clean enough. I didn't have the same problem so I'm not really sure about this. Thought it could be the issue that the weather was too dry and he might need additional moisturiser on his skin? Confused.
Review 20:Friendly staff at reception. Really convenient for city travel, only 2-3 minutes walk to railway stations and quite a lot of bus routes available. Nice and tasty breakfast as well!
Review 21:Need to travel to places of interest
Review 22:Great service. We left our belongings in Osaka hotel n they helped usimmediately to make arrangements. Located near omiya station n bus stop. The room is very comfortable for 6 has microwave in the room which wecould use for our bento breakfast (yummy breakfast). The hotel also haswashing machines for us to do our laundry. Best of all, there's apublic bath for us to soak in after a tiring day.
Review 23:Room looks a bit old
Review 24:Good location, 1 minute walk from Omiya stn and Shijo Omiya stn (tram for Arashiyama stn), Supermarket, 7-11, Pharmacy, restaurants nearby
Review 25:Breakfast was a little small and it was room delivery only (no dining room, which I prefer), but having three different options was good and it was tasty enough.
Review 26:The folding Japanese couches/futons were excellent. They were fun and easy to use and I found them very comfortable. The public bath/hot spring downstairs was wonderful. Good location near a subway stop and the Electric Rail line to Arashiyama (temple, monkey park and bamboo grove) and Nijo Castle was walking distance.
Review 27:i don't think i can really fault this hotel
Review 28:was surprised at how close the hotel was to most of the main touristy area or can be reached by bus or tube right outside. great wifi service. room fantastic size and clean. lots of shops and restaurants outside.
Review 29:Staff was not willing to help. Breakfast was poor, and delivered to the room. Better take what you like from Seven-eleven or any other conveinent store downstairs.
Review 30:Location is perfect. Room set up is good. Very convenient. Sell day transport cards at the reception.
Review 31:I love the location, the friendliness of staff and the overall experience that we had with our family and friends while staying here at Village Kyoto.
Review 32:This was a fantastic hotel experience. A hotel is not only about luxury golden toilet seats. The Village Kyoto gave me everything I expected: a full Japanese experience, with a small western twist. I've stayed at various hotels (Hilton, Raddison etc.) but nothing compares with this great hotel! Staff speaks great English and that's saying something if you know something about English in Japan. Its up to you. You can sleep only on a futon or soften it with a fold out sofa seat. Highly recommend. And the public bath is so cool. Great cosmetics. Can't say enough about how great this place is!
Review 33:Excellent hotel! The staff were all very friendly and helpful (spoke fluent English, too). The room was very clean and had a nice atmosphere. The onsen at the hotel was great, too.
Review 34:Breakfast is kind of plastic food...delivered to the room as they do not seem to have a common area. Location was fair but public transportation needed. I think renovating furniture would help.
Review 35:The internal public bath was nice. The room is a ryokan-style but very old furniture. The room bath has been recently renovated.
Review 36:Breakfast was really weak. Maybe ask guests what they would like instead of guessing. A muffin or pastry would be much better than potato salad. The egg and cold ham was fine.
Review 37:We liked the facility and the hot pools and the pajamas. We liked the central location but it wasn't easy getting there from the train station.
Review 38:The air conditioner in my room was very noisy. It needs to be fixed. And the room was smaller than I expected since I had booked a three persons room but the officer had given me a two persons room. It is quite disappointed.
Review 39:Comfortable bed and convenient location.
Review 40:Breakfast could be improved, but it was included room cost which we didn't find much in Japan.
Review 41:Great room for family of five, well equipped, clean and comfortable, close to transportation options although not close to Kyoto Station.
Review 42:no view at all. Windows could not be opened as they faced the windows of the other building closely. Thus no sunlight at all.
Review 43:Staff are very helpful. They helped me to book a taxi to the Kyoto station and a restaurant in Kyoto. Rooms are comparatively big.
Review 44:It was clean with big public bath, microwave, coin laundry, fridge and close to the station, restaurant, massage, everything we needed in this hotel and very good value! Great for long stay with family. Highly recommend!
Review 45:English breakfast could have been better, although Japanese option was decent. Also please provide a bottle of drinking water in the room.
Review 46:Excellent location, nice onsen (my friend from India especially enjoyed it), clean rooms and overall an excellent experience. I will highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
Review 47:Location was somewhat far for walking from Nishiki market, and therewere limited options of restaurants around, with a lack of activityaccess. We has to take a taxi to Nishiki/Karashima streets.Arashiyama was easy to access via the Hankyu railway line, but this could be similarly done via Kyoto Station (JR line) and the latter would have more dining/bars/shopping options around.
Review 48:Interesting tatami rooms.
Review 49:Nothing bad to report.
Review 50:Great price/quality; excellent service. Breakfast was fine if you're not fussy for western bowl of cereals with milk. They bring it to your room at the time you want. Make sure you don't forget to remove the "do not disturb" sign from your door or they won't clear up breakfast after you've gone for the day! The best thing of all is the hot baths on Floor 1. Don't be shy. You really should try them out. Even after a long hot day around gorgeous Kyoto, it's a great way to relax before going off to sleep. There are special pyjamas and slippers in your room to use to go down to the baths. The surprise is you have to make up your futon bed at night. (it only takes 45 seconds, though)
Review 51:No where comfortable to sit during the day (the sofas turn to futons, but they are not comfortable to sit on when they're a sofa).
Review 52:Bento box for breakfast was great, clean, modern and comfortable accommodation. Spacious and conveniently located (can catch the Randen to Arashiyama very easily), close to 7-11s, Daiso.
Review 53:This hotel is located near to subway station and there're many bus stop around can easily get to tourism locations. Kyoto station is only few bus stops away. There is free spring for all guests and it is quite a comfort.
Review 54:Having to set your bed up each night became a drag after a few nights!
Review 55:The Japanese bath house was an awesome experience and the kids loved sleeping in the capsule style beds in the wardrobe
Review 56:Hotel is modern and very clean. Our traditional style room was big enough for 3 people. Staff was friendly and they could speak English, which made us feel very comfortable there.
Review 57:Just a little suggestion. Morning breakfast is too plain. Nearby 7-11 sell much better bento box at $2-3.
Review 58:Good location. Near everything. Very big room and comfortable bed. Will stay again!
Review 59:The breakfast is so-so.
Review 60:Hotel is located near to Shijo Omiya Bus Station, Hankyu Omiya subway and Randen subway to Arashiyama. If you ok with some walking, you can even walk to Gion area, Nijojo Castle, Nishiki Market. Comfortableness is fair but the tatami need to request the hotel to clean up. For our room, the refrigerator is not working properly. We tried to convey the message to the stuffs but they seems like dont understand what we talking about. Some of the stuffs command good english.
Review 61:The complimentary breakfast was very average.
Review 62:Hot bath was amazing. Though no tattoos is a rule. So if your Dane swan look else where. The bath Is 15 metres long and the rooms are huge very comfy for a family of 4 or even better just for 2.
Review 63:Breakfast was almost not edible like many people have pointed out here
Review 64:Liked the bath and the modern style ryokan. Good location for taking bus to sightseeing
Review 65:it is hard to manage without beds, tables, chairs and no place to put your bags. as the hotel had no restaurant, the breakfast was handed over in packets in the room (mind you with no table ot chairs to sit on
Review 66:the location was good
Review 67:- Breakfast is provided in room but quality is low
Review 68:- Futons are ok compare to some other hotels where they can be very thin and too hard - Free Wifi - Location quite convenient to take buses or metro or train to Ayashimaya - Can sell bus tickets for one day
Review 69:Staff friendly and helpful. This Ryokan is centrally located. Room was large and well equipped. Free Wi fi worked perfectly Room cleaned daily if we put card on door. Loved the spa. Best we have had in Japan also well equipped and clean. Boxed Breakfast ok if heated in micro wave This Ryokan lives up to its reputation as being a nice place to stay when visiting Kyoto and surrounding areas.
Review 70:I didn't have a bad experience but the place looked a bit grubby on arrival- the floor cushions for example, in our Japanese style room, really were a bit grubby. We were in a five-person room which was great for three adults but for five would have been a real challenge.
Review 71:The laundry room - cheap, and very convenient. The breakfasts were great. Staff were helpful. Loved the huge public bath! Location was fabulous. Would recommend it
Review 72:Pillows won't suit everybody. You had to put together your own beds- though it was fairly easy to do.
Review 73:Good sized room, spacious bathroom, classy interiors.
Review 74:The actual room size is much smaller than we expected and with a tiny bathroom. There is no hotel services, and we had to set up all mattress, blanket and sofa bed by ourselves. The corridor outside the room is very cold, just like standing on the street. With this price, there are a lot of better choices in terms of its location, services and comfort.
Review 75:none
Review 76:Nothing, all very good !!
Review 77:Good Location - 1 min from the exit of subway Nice Breakfast - 3 choice Staff are friendly & some can talk in English Nice & big public Japanese bathroom !!
Review 78:- Only one thing can think of is breakfast wasn't so good.
Review 79:- Locate in very convenient location just about 2 minutes walk to Omiya station, 15 minutes walk to Nishiki Market. - Room was clean and well equipped with all stuffs you need for your stay. - Staff were helpful although and hotel allow you to drop your baggage before the check-in time and after your check-check out as well.
Review 80:The breakfast proposed is very small even if it is good. I was desappointed.
Review 81:Clean, half japanese and western style, very confortable and with a nice onsen!
Review 82:The biggest issue was that there is no wifi on the rooms, so all guests end up "grounded" on the lobby where is the only place you can access wifi. It needs an upgrade on the rooms (for the price you pay) and it was not the cleanest room
Review 83:Staff a little reluctant to help with travel advice/plans at times.
Review 84:A great sento downstairs. Japanese styled rooms and Japanese gowns in the room.
Review 85:this is a more traditional looking hotel, the room was big enough, clean and modern, breakfast included was a nice bonus, close to lots of shops and train station, we really enjoy our stay.
Review 86:Well located within 20 minutes walk to Nishiki Market, Ni Jo castle and Gion. Excellent facilities in the hotel including an Onsen (hot tub, not natural spring). Staff were helpful and spoke very good English.
Review 87:Staff were not very proactive and not as forthcoming. We also had to struggle with all our luggages on our own as they probably do not have extra hands to help. Wifi was not available in the rooms, which is sad.
Review 88:Hotel was reasonably near the major must-go places and also near a train station. They also provide parking, though for a fee and though the parking lot is off-site at a nearby carpark. Surprisingly they provide a simple bento breakfast, which was a bonus!
Review 89:No wireless WiFi in the room but is free in the lobby
Review 90:Cleanliness was excellent. Staff were helpful and polite. Onsen bath facilities were also excellent. Good basic breakfast delivered to the room
Review 91:The toilet is a bit small with bath combined. As such when one person is using it, the others have to wait or use the public bath downstairs.
Review 92:Taking a taxi to the hotel from the train station was a good idea as it was a 15 minutes ride and cost around Yen1300 only. Beats dragging our bags and with family in tow looking for the hotel! The futon bed, the Japanese rice or sushi breakfast (or bread is another option) and the public bath completes the cultural experience. They have a TV, fridge, microwave, coffee making facilities and full toiletries replenished daily. Many public transportation options available.
Review 93:The only con of this hotel, I would say is the internet access. There is no in-room free WIFI access. Even we got to the hotel lobby it was not easy to get connected. It might get connect for a while and then everything get lag and slow down, then it will be unstable and get disconncted. I hope the hotel looks into this matter asap, and if possible, please install WIFI box so that guests get to access internet in comfort in their own room.
Review 94:This hotel is value for money. Very accessible to Omiya subway and Randen train to Arashiyama. Bus stop is within walking distance and convenience stores all around it. Breakfast is included and we love it. There is microwave in the room where we could heat up the riceball and soup if we want. We stay in a tatami room suitable for up to 6 pax. Room is big enough for our family of 4 with 3 big luggages.
Review 95:I was not impressed w the size of the room.... Actually wondered how it was to hv also accommodated a family of 5, with luggage and all. Apart from convenience stores, not much of other amenities of interest in the area, though train station within close proximity n buses aplenty to places of interest. N somehow couldn't connect on wifi in lobby.
Review 96:i liked the fact tt our family of 4 could share n bond in a quadruple room together. N the fact tt the wardrobe n bathroom was in the separate foyer before entering the room proper... Allowed more space in the sleeping quarters itself.
Review 97:Lack of WiFi in the rooms, only Ethernet and the wifi in the lobby didn't work
Review 98:Location- very central , only 1minute walk from 2 stations so it was very easy to get around. Room- spacious, had microwave and fridge, very comfortable and cosy Staff- could speak english and were very friendly and helpful Facilities- room provides all toiletries you would need, the sentou was modern, spacious and well equipped Overall would definitely recommend! We booked a family room for 6 at £20pp per night so it was great value for money, especially over Xmas.
Review 99:A ryukan in thia hotel is perfect when visiting japan with some friends. Clean, excellent accomodations and perfect traditional japanese. Even your own yukata is provided. The location is not perfect but the public transport is perfect. In short a good startingplace for visiting kyoto.
Review 100:Cramped for family of 5. Not much space to store luggage and move about. Same room can sleep max 6, but 6 futons will just about cover the entire floor area of the bedroom. Breakfast provided, served to the room in takeaway boxes. But the same 3 choices everyday. And it is typical Japanese breakfast. Subway not the main line to Kyoto station. Ended up taking a direct bus instead.
Review 101:Onsen on first floor. Nice attached shower and bathtub. Toiletries provided for all. Nice restaurants nearby. And near convenience shops. Near a electric tram, direct to Arashimaya attractions. Clean and hygienic, even has air cleaner.
Review 102:The only thing I wasn't fond of were the couches (they fold out into the beds which are very comfortable, but when they are in couch form they aren't wry comfortable).
Review 103:We had a wonderful stay, the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable and everything was affordable.
Review 104:No wifi in room, but is available in lobby after some reconfiguring of settings.
Review 105:Good value modern hotel with tasteful Japanese style furnishings like futons, hot bath area, tea and coffee facilities. Very helpful service and Japanese breakfast. Right opposite Randen train to so many of Kyotos attractions - Bamboo Grove and rural settings of temples and shrines.
Review 106:Breakfast was very bad, I couldn't eat it. And almost all female receptionists seem to be not welcome guests who come to check in or ask anything. But the guy at reception was always willing to help.
Review 107:I stayed there in winter season. Even though the weather outside was so cold but inside the room was warm enough. The bed was very comfy. The location is good if you travel just only in Kyoto, near train and bus station. But if you wish to travel to other cities, it has to change the train line at least 2 or 3 times.
Review 108:Breakfast is little choice and serving size is small.
Review 109:Good location, near to train stations & bus stops. Plenty of restaurant and stores around hotel area. 10 min walking distance to Nishiki Market and shopping area.
Review 110:Taxi drivers don't seem to know this place. Also, they are very inflexible with checkout time. Refused to extend late checkout even for one hour.
Review 111:Value for money. Comfortable enough and generally the hotel staff are quite helpful
Review 112:Location was further from Kyoto station. Room could be bigger for family of 5 as it could not accommodate coffee table and sofa as well as futon. Toilet rather small.
Review 113:Public bath was excellent and we'll equipped with amenities. Has laundry room with washer and dryer and even laundry detergent, all at very nominal charges. Provided yukata and outer coat for winter, very thoughtful. Toilet well stocked with amenities.
Review 114:i do not like the fact that the other guests does not properly shower before they go into the public bath and some even use their towels...I do not know how the hotel can control this but it's quite annoying to see ppl not following rules especially if it has to do with overall cleanliness.
Review 115:It was a good hotel..for the price and value.
Review 116:Limited choice of breakfast but the area surrounded by many shops hence there is no issue here.
Review 117:Good location, easily accessible to all places, taxi about 1000yen from kyoto station if you have large luggages. Only takes less than 20mins to Arashiyama and the train station is right in front of the hotel. Hankyu Omiya station also few steps away. No time limit for the usage of laundry room.
Review 118:The breakfast - the menus (rice, sushi or bread) weren't delicious and had a small amount of food. Staff only speak few words in english, however they have complete and useful information in the rooms, in english
Review 119:The public bath is great, spacious. The rooms are comfortable. Next to bus stops and metro line (shijoomyia station)
Review 120:The staff are very friendly and helpful because my luggage was left in Rome and I asked them to collect it. Good value for staying in the city centre. Breakfast included. Highly recommended!
Review 121:The room and the bathroom is too small. But it is the same everyone in Japan. So I guess the hotel can do nothing about it.
Review 122:the free public bathroom. It is very comfy and very clean. My daughter and I just love it! Great location. close to stations. Good breakfast.
Review 123:You had to make your own futon bed.
Review 124:I really likes how there was breakfast included in our rate. There were also three choices of Breakfast; western, sushi, and bento. The rooms were big. Free internet and also a coin launderette to wash clothes.
Review 125:Unfortunately, wifi could only be accessed in the lobby and not in the rooms, though this was only a small inconvenience.
Review 126:It is well located with a bus stop a few metres away which takes you to all the major tourist sights and more. We did not take the train but there is also a station nearby. Plus, there's plenty of restaurants, convenient store/ supermarkets, chemists, etc. The room was massive, even by Western standards. The kids could actually run around. Free breakfast was delicious and served in your room on the dot. Yukatas were provided and very comfortable. We used the onsen downstairs every night and even the kids have mastered the onsen etiquette. Staff were friendly and helpful and a couple of them spoke perfect English. Would definitely come back!!!
Review 127:Limited Internet area coverage
Review 128:Very professional staff, clean, great location, just perfect facilities, shared bath to washing machines. Just spot on. Well done keep up the consistency
Review 129:The traffic is convenient. There are several bus lines just nearby the hotel. The hotel has a public bathing room free for guests, clean and comfortable though it is not hot spring.
Review 130:we had to make our own bed, and the room for 4 people (which was actually for 5) was really small.. I wonder how could 5 people with luggage fit in..
Review 131:great position, free hot pool
Review 132:Wifi is not available in rooms which was unbelievable currently.
Review 133:The good thing was the location. It was so convenient to take the city bus or tube. Also, there were lots of shops around.
