Reviews for Urban Hotel Kyoto

Review 1:I loved the location of the hotel, a short stroll up the canal to Inari station and shrine. Perfect location if you have a Japan Rail pass, easy access to Kyoto station, Nijo and Arashiyama included. The breakfast was small but, surprisingly, filled me up for a morning of sight seeing. Exactly what is expected from a Japanese business hotel, super happy.

Review 2:The hotel is located at the roadside. It was quite noisy at night due to the traffic flow.

Review 3:Room is quite big & comfortable.Simple western breakfast priced at 540 yen was worthwhile.A convenient store is located just opposite the hotel.

Review 4:Location-wise it was very far away from the parts of Kyoto I wanted to visit (with the exception of Fushimi Inari shrine). 15 minutes walk away from nearest station down a quiet street - was not nice walk with luggage.

Review 5:Staff was friendly and helpful - willing to help when I'm in trouble. The restaurant downstairs serves very nice set meals. Walkable distance to Fushimi Inari.

Review 6:- very poor international breakfast

Review 7:+ helpful staff, free maps with nearby restaurants and location of the main attractions including the directions, open times and prices + location (15 mins to Fushimi Inari shirne, 5 mins to Fukakusa train and 15 to Kuinabashi subway) + cheap parking 300JPN/day + well equipped and clean room

Review 8:Nothing. Everything was perfect.

Review 9:Staff was very friendly and quickly helped us settle in. Daily household keeping is also very reliable and trustworthy. No safe was present in the room to store valuable items; nevertheless, nothing was taken by the cleaning ladies.

Review 10:There is an option to book including breakfast and I recommend not to...they have 2 types of breakfast, first is for bookings with breakfast which is kind of a joke....just coffee, half of slice of bread one egg and some salad on the side and you eat in the hotel lobby. The other type of breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant and the price is very good, so why not option number 2? up to you

Review 11:Location of the hotel was perfect for me. The property is just 5 min walk from Inari station from where you go to Kyoto station and even closer to Fukakusa station from where you go to Gion. Some restaurants around, for vegetarians....Indian restaurant just across the street :), 24/7 store next to the hotel. I visit Kyoto very often, and this hotel became my base for this city. I recommend this property, great value for the price.(book without breakfast tho).

Review 12:none

Review 13:location, you can get to JR Inari station or Fukakusa station easily there is one convenient store (right opp the hotel) and cheap supermarket (near to Inari station)nearby Wifi is fast and stable

Review 14:The single room was extremely tiny but impeccably clean, and it had hairdryer, kettle and tea bags, spare toothbrushes, brush, pen and paper, large flat screen TV, and several electric plugs for my electronic devices. They even give you a nice and soft cotton pajama for your stay. The Wireless was painless and worked perfectly: I video skyped and streamed movies. The bathroom was a tiny plastic box, kind a port a potty, but it was very clean, and the water pressure in the shower was fabulous. The room was quiet. Unfortunately people smoke where they are not supposed to so you can smell smoke in the corridors, but this occurs also at fancy five star places I stayed in Japan. It is in the south of the city so not where most of the temples and buzz are, but it is ten minutes walk from the marvelous Fushimi Inari-Taisha Shrine. I was able to be at the shrine’s entrance very early in the morning, walk up the mountain, and get back before the crowds arrived. Not the hotel where you want to honeymoon perhaps, but it sure worked for me.

Review 15:I told Front Office associates regrading room air con was not working and warm can ask some one to fix it. Unfortunately Front office associate tole me open the window.....

Review 16:free Wifi

Review 17:it'll would be great if they provide free scheduled shuttle from the hotel to nearest station

Review 18:Good location, only 2 station from central kyoto. near inari shrine, a lot of good foods around the area.

Review 19:It was difficult to navigate our way from the station at first but the locals were very helpful and got us there. Was quite a long walk with our suitcases though!

Review 20:The staff on our trip were very helpful. The Wifi in our room did not work and the hotel staff were able to provide us with a wifi connection in our room. We very close by train to the city and Kyoto station. only a 10-15 minutes walk to the fushimiinari shrine (which is number one on trip advisor!).

Review 21:12-15 minutes walk to the train station. Very expensive while it only provide you with the basic needs. There's no internet. I can believe they provide a pay computer in their lobby and charge you 100 yan for minute.

Review 22:Facility is clean

Review 23:Breakfast delivered less and charge for additional requirement for bread.

Review 24:The equipment in the room is a little bit old but still clean; about 10 minutes walk to Fushimi Inari Shrine; I forgot to take the charger of my DV and left it in the room, they send to me by express smoothly before I leave Japan which is been much appreciated.

Review 25:A bit far from Gion and central Kyoto but with a JR pass very easy to hop on the train at Inari station to get there

Review 26:Neat and very clean room and bathroom. Great base to explore Kyoto from. Staff were very helpful and ffriendly. Booked a restaurant through them before our stay via email.

Review 27:Bad communication between booking.com and the hotel resulted in a stuff up of check-in times for me. Really small room and even smaller bathroom. Noisy aircon which isn't cold at all.

Review 28:Not much

Review 29:Hotel is close to Fushimi Inari Shrine and bus stop. You should travel all places by bus. However it can be a little bit far from the city center. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff is willing to help and knows English. There are a small cafe and restaurant as well. There is a storage for your luggages as well. We definately like it.

Review 30:The room was much smaller than I expected. We required a takuhaibin service at the desk. One of the stuff arranged it. His English was not really good, but we still managed to. He filled in the form for us because we couldn't write in Japanese. But on the following day, one of his colleagues corrected the whole thing because the other guy had arranged a more expensive service unintendedly. We did'nt really understand the whole thing but fortunately we got to pay less.

Review 31:The location was really convenient. Quite close to the lovely Fushimi Inari shrine. Very clean toilet.

Review 32:This is the smallest Japanese hotel I have ever stayed in. Bigger than a capsule hotel but not by much.

Review 33:Coin laundry facilities were useful. Sushi restaurant was good.

Review 34:As opposed to what is written about the hotel, we were expecting a short walk from Fushimi Inari Shrine. However, it is really not a 15-minute walk from the shrine. I suggest that you take a cab from the shrine/Inari station especially if you have a medium/large luggage. We had a quite difficult time walking to the hotel with our luggage. The hotel might want to consider in the future having a complimentary shuttle service to and from the Inari Station or Fushimi Inari Shrine.

Review 35:Clean and comfortable room. The rates are excellent. Great wifi connection too!

Review 36:Staff can speak very little English. Hotel look quite old and need some refreshing.

Review 37:Location is OK - a bit far from the center, but train and metro stations are within 10 minutes walk. Many authentic, not touristy restaurants and bars around (there is useful map of the area available at the reception desk). Rooms are small but perfectly clean and well equipped. Wifi was OK. Beds are rather hard - we liked it, but it is matter of preference. Not the best hotel we've stayed in Japan, but for that price it was good deal.

Review 38:Nothing negative I can think about...

Review 39:The price is great. It's located near one of the famous shrine's Fushimi Inari and also within walking distance to the Fukakusa station. The front office staff was really helpful in providing direction and advice on how to visit the places of interest in Kyoto. No shortage of food within walking distance and some eateries open up to 4am in the morning. There is also convenient stores along the street such as Family Mart and 7-11. Bought a one day pass on Keihan line from the hotel front desk and you can visit the 8 interesting places in Kyoto. I'll pretty sure to revisit Kyoto again and put up at UHK.

Review 40:TV has no SAP feature, nor English programs.

Review 41:Very close to Fushimi-inari, and to the Keihan line (which is all you need to get to the interesting places in Kyoto). Staff speaks English, room is big, and water works beautifully well.

Review 42:Apart from the very limited breakfast and the slightly inconvenient location (approx. 15 minutes walk from JR Inari station, 10 minutes from nearest Keihan) there's nothing to complain about, esp. at that price.

Review 43:My husband and I were first impressed when the staff helped us carry our luggage as they met us on the road from the subway to the hotel! Great service! The location was about a 10 minute walk to the Fushimi Inari- we were able to walk to the shrine in the early morning to beat the crowds. It's only 2 stops from Kyoto Station with easy access to a bus. Overall a great stay with friendly staff and great location!

Review 44:Well, breakfast is the same menu everyday...but its good for one night to stay.

Review 45:Really recommended to those like quiet , you cannot heard noise from outside, good in amenities, I like their roasted green tea in the room because of aromatic smell. Bathroom is good especially the hitech toilet....Easy acces to the shopping and restaurant. There is a nearest supermarket 100 meters and restaurants. One ride to Kyoto station by bus 230 yen, and walking distance to the nearest train station to Arashiyama or Gion. Most of all the wifi is excellent in the room, free, and not difficult to communicate to the fronthdesk that they can understand and speak english. And reasonable price!

Review 46:The wifi did not work when we first arrived but when we told the front desk they promptly provided us with a router that worked. There were no tv channels in English. Noise from other rooms disturbed sleep.

Review 47:I enjoyed my stay in Urban Hotel. The room was small, but clean and cosy! The train station was only a 5 min walk from the hotel and convenience stores were located on the same street.

Review 48:unfriendly staff. Overly persistent cleaning staff. (rang and knocked at our door many times despite a do not disturb sign.) Uncomfortable pillows. Location.

Review 49:The pillows were hard. The bed was hard. It is a little out of the way. The staff wasnt overly welcoming and a few of the appliences and lights werent explained to us.

Review 50:The room was a clean room. And provided toiletries.

Review 51:The wifi worked really bad at the room. It is a bit far from the center.

Review 52:The personal was really nice, the tv was big and the air conditioner works correctly. There is a 24 hour supermarkt in front of the hotel.

Review 53:not too close to any JR station (15 minutes walk to Inari).

Review 54:free water upon arrival. wifi not working in the room but we were given the minirouter to use with the ethernet plug in the room. convenience stores nearby. nice neighbourhood. clean and comfortable enough.

Review 55:The best way to get to the hotel is by bus, but the buses came only once per hour. The last bus from central kyoto left 9 20 pm. I would recommend a hotel closer to the central station for easier access to buses/trains to all tourist spots.

Review 56:Staff was helpful and spoke ok english. The hotel was clean. The breakfast was ok but simple. Close to inari shrine wich is worth visiting (prepare for a lot of stairs)

Review 57:It's quite bothersome to get to Kyoto Station for Shinkansen lines and few restaurants are nearby. Good place for a rest and enjoying Kyoto, but not so good for traveling.

Review 58:Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet and convenient environment. There's a small souvenir stall in the lobby, and yukata are on sale.

Review 59:the breakfast is not good. i think you should tell them what you don't like when handing the breakfast ticket to the staff. 早餐不好吃。。。如果你有什么忌口的话最好在交饭票的时候告诉员工。

Review 60:it's close to a famous Jinsha( i don't remember the name of that Jinsha) good facility, good staff. 离稻荷神社不远。设施齐全,前台的妹子很漂亮。。。。。

Review 61:It is good for the price.

Review 62:Rather large (for Japan) and comfortable bed. Staff speaking good English.

Review 63:Good breakfast in Cafe & set dinner in restaurant

Review 64:The room is a bit too small for a couple and we can hear next room's noise.

Review 65:The staffs tried their best to provide good services.

Review 66:Nice hotel, a bit outside the more touristy areas (although only ~10 min walk from the Inari Shrine red gates)

Review 67:The breakfast was very poor.

Review 68:Far away from restaurant

Review 69:Near the station

Review 70:A bit outside of the city but there's two train station and bus stop nearby.

Review 71:Very clean and comfy rooms.

Review 72:It's close to the beautiful inari shrine. The place is clean. I really liked my stay

Review 73:Too far to subway and staff could not tell you where it was

Review 74:Leaving

Review 75:Clean room service good location

Review 76:Very small room. Very hard mattress and pillows.

Review 77:Proximity to train stations and shrine.

Review 78:15 min. walk from hotel to Fushimi-inari Taisha. En Arashiyama Bamboo Grove & Okochi Sanso 30 min from hotel with de metro very easy travel.

Review 79:Cleanliness and staff

Review 80:Non-smoking room smells smoking. Toilet seat too small.

Review 81:Parking next to the hotel. Aircon always on. Quiet room.

Review 82:Main road

Review 83:A very basic hotel on a main road. A little soulless, but convenient enough. A little out of the main town district.

Review 84:Our 3rd visit to this hotel and as good as ever. Friendly and helpful staff, well situated and generally a really nice place

Review 85:Dryer had to be used there times to get clothes dry

Review 86:Location was good. Nice staff.

Review 87:The staff wasn't all that friendly.

Review 88:A nice standard business hotel, close tl Fushimi Inari Shrine. Overall a pleasant stay.

Review 89:Room was very tight for two people

Review 90:The free parking for my motorbike Free WiFi Good value breakfast Location overall was OK for us

Review 91:nothing much.

Review 92:near to inari, near to train stn

Review 93:hotel's restaurant serves excellent shabu shabu :-) It's near Fushimi Inari Shrine :-)

Review 94:Room is very clean and service is good. Double bed is a little bit narrower than expected.

Review 95:poor wifi; not so good location; no amenities;

Review 96:The cleanliness

Review 97:Need improve wifi

Review 98:Pillows hard as rocks and lumpy. Bad bathroom.

Review 99:comfortable

Review 100:Bed a bit hard, but ive found that all through Japan

Review 101:Price and proximity to gion by metro

Review 102:a bit far from train station

Review 103:washing facility was limited Breakfast choice was limited

Review 104:convenient to travel

Review 105:It's not so far from Fushimi inari Shrine and train stations.A bus station is in front of the hotel.

Review 106:Located near train station and Fushimi Inari Shrine. The room was clean and location was quiet.

Review 107:One of the staff members was fluent in English so it was very easy to communicate with her.

Review 108:WIFI not strong enough.

Review 109:Convenience, peaceful and nice atmosphere.

Review 110:Bed a bit hard, but really this is a minor quibble.

Review 111:Well located, being a 10 minute walk to the JR line station Inari, (and the Inari shrine) from where it was only 5 minutes into Kyoto's main station. Quiet location as well. Helpful staff on the front desk.

Review 112:the wall itself very thin, we can hear our neighbours making love VERY LOUD ! the room itself is so standard, with just standard equipment the location is not so convinient, main attraction from this hotel is just the Fushimi Inari Shrine, altough you must walk 10-15 min to it. The bus station from this hotel is quite near, but the bus to this hotel from Kyoto station about 7 min walk.

Review 113:just the price, it IS very cheap comparing the other

Review 114:Clothes didn't get totally dry even after 2 rounds of "Dry Spin". Wi-fi connection was slow.

Review 115:Good bedding with comfortable pillows. Walking distance to Subway and JR Inari stations. Fushimi Inari Shrine is just beside JR Inari St.

Review 116:No view: the window was large but had obscured glass, and I couldn't find a way to fix it in place when I opened it, so the wind would slam it against the wall if I left it open. The wifi wasn't very good - the connection kept dropping, and one of my friends couldn't connect at all.

Review 117:Location - pleasant short walk from the station (alongside a canal); close to one of the most atmospheric of Kyoto's shrines. Price! Great value for money, especially in a city as expensive and popular as Kyoto. The coin-operated guest laundry was really useful.

Review 118:No heating you can control. You cannot choose heat or aircon, so for the 6 days of stay we had only only one night with heater on. It could be quite cold. Wi-fi in rooms breaking up almost every 2 - 5 min.

Review 119:Aeon near by, comfy, dinner tables in the lobby, wi-fi in rooms, clean, nice staff

Review 120:the location is quit far from city, mall and train. it tooks 15 minutes normal walk from the station.

Review 121:we stayed at the highest level of hotel, but the wifi signal was clear. the room is comfort and clean. suit with the price that we pay. staff can speak little english but this is Japan! we expect that. the convenient store is in front of hotel and there is halal shop near to hotel.

Review 122:Staff didn't really speak English Room was really small, no room for suitcase

Review 123:Close to subway (Fukakusa station): 5 min walking Reasonably close to JR line (Inari station): 15 min walking Helpfull staff Supermarket across the street
