Reviews for Hotel Granvia Kyoto
Review 1:It is not normal that I can't think of a single, even simple thing to be improved. With Granvia Kyoto, I have nothing I would change. Period.
Review 2:Well, second time in Kyoto, second time at Granvia. The location and quality/price of the hotel are so good it is difficult to chose elsewhere. I don't like to repeat hotels as I like to know more, diversify, but in Kyoto, after much web surfing, I couldn't decide differently
Review 3:One big plus for this hotel is that it is so conveniently located to the train line, shops and food places. As it is a JR hotel, there is ample signage once you get off the train, and being located in the train station, you do not have to lug your suitcase too far. The staff went out of their way to assist with any queries we had and were very helpful and knowledgeable on the local area. The room was nice overall, with lots of space, amenities and very comfy beds. The only things we found lacking were the carpets seemed worn and stained and we could hear the train platform speakers from our room. However by 10 o'clock at night we no longer heard the speakers, so they must turn them down or not use them after a certain hour. In addition to being convent for arriving in Kyoto, the hotel in located next to the bus and taxi area, which is convenient when you are off to explore the city. I would Definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you plan to arrive by train and explore the sights by public transportation.
Review 4:There was an error in the number of nights recorded for our booking and we explained this and they were very helpful in cancelling one of the nights without penalty. The location was perfect on top of kyoto station and close to plenty of food options and other facilities
Review 5:Excellent location with easy access to trains, subways and buses. Great shopping in and around Kyoto station with many restaurant options. The rooms in Granvia are well thought out even down to the light switches. A well planned out hotel and considerate to the needs of travellers. Will stay here again.
Review 6:Best Hotel around Kyoto Station - therefore it is very easy to reach all the major Points of interest from here. View over the city is very nice from the upper floors
Review 7:Nothing that I can think of
Review 8:The location is right above Kyoto train station and next to local bus terminal. Literally you are conveniently connected to all parts of Kyoto.
Review 9:Check-in is slow even though we were checking in close to midnight. In addition, most of the staff is not very conversant in English which made it challenging to communicate when asking for directions, etc.
Review 10:Very convenient location, easily accessible to trains, subway and city buses as well as the Kyoto tourist information centre. Also near to shopping and eating places. Hotel is very clean and we would like to thank housekeeping for clearing the mess created by my two young monkeys every day.
Review 11:The hotel is rather expensive - the fact though is compensated by the room size 30 m2 for a standard room. The breakfast menu contained too little diary products
Review 12:Everything was great - location, cleanliness, facilities and staff, staff, staff. On our check-in they helped us to save money by changing the room to less expensive, despite the reservation we had. Before our departure they arranged baggage collection after the official collection time. The baggage issue was especially important, since it was intended to be sent to the airport hotel where we would spend the night before our morning flight home. We really have appreciated their attitude to the guests. Thanks a lot !
Review 13:the attention to details eg a stool in the lift was a good idea as I had an 83 year old mother who appreciated the seat each time she got into the lift.
Review 14:After the first three nights of a six night stay I was asked to settle my account. I paid but did not like the feeling that I was not trusted.
Review 15:Attentiveness and courtesy of the staff.
Review 16:Marginalia: Seperate fittings for cold and warm water instead of a mixing unit. Windows cannot be opened; always a drag, because you want to air out your shoes and clothes. Did not try the breakfast as it was not included with the room.
Review 17:Very spacious room (apparently highly unusual for Japan). Nice view over the train tracks (without any noise to bother us). Great choice of restaurants. The location inside the hugely impressive Kyoto main station is perfect, as much of the public transportation is centered there.
Review 18:The view isn't great, we could see the tower though which looked beautiful at night. Its not the hotels fault re the view, its just that it is at a train station.
Review 19:Was really convenient to get off the train and into your hotel, was a good central location and the they have everything at the station, especially lots of dining option.s
Review 20:Not cheap (but value for money) Long corridor, long distance walking to some of the rooms from elevator
Review 21:Facility and location in the magnificent Kyoto station
Review 22:We were supposed to be on nonsmoking rooms (we booked 2 rooms) but one room reeked of cigarette smoke. The pillow cases, although clean did not smell fresh.
Review 23:Location was perfect. Amenities were good.
Review 24:Facilities like iron table and Coffee/tea making equipment ( like regular cups, sugar). Buffet Breakfast need to be improved ( more choices). TV should have international channels.
Review 25:The hotel location is in an excellent area. The room was clean.
Review 26:We had to walk every time 5 min to our room because of the long corridors
Review 27:Hotel is part of the new futuristic station nice efficient staff Perfect room with view over tracks
Review 28:The free wifi was non exinsistant in our room, we could only connect in the hallway and if in the room there was no signal. We called the staff and they came up and installed a mini router to help with the signal (how cool?!). Problem fixed!
Review 29:You absolutely can't beat the location. The hotel is right above Kyoto station so theres no transferring to different stations, busses or taxi's to get to your destination. The staff gave superb service always attentive and extremely nice. The concierge helped my husband and I find temples/shrines worth visiting, gave us directions and how to get there after the station. You couldn't ask for a better experience.
Review 30:Weather was cold, so heater was on. But the room got hot so we had to turn off the heater and open the windows. We could hear the trains at night despite the fact that we were on the 31st floor. Wish we had airconditioner at a reasonable setting just to make the room comfortable.
Review 31:best location ever
Review 32:The noise coming from the train station is annoying, it does not end until late 11pm, and starts very early in the morning.
Review 33:The most conveniently located hotel in Kyoto. Good wifi coverage. Very polite staff. Very good restaurants.
Review 34:No complimentary coffee in the room, tea only.
Review 35:Location is great.. Perfect for a short stay in Kyoto. Hotel staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. Amenities are complete and close vicinity to some of the best ramen places.
Review 36:The window sound proofing probably can be improved a bit. We stayed at the highest floor, no noticeable training sound, but the station's broadcasting sound can still be heard slightly, particularly in the early morning..
Review 37:convenience and comfort. Easy access to both transportation and shopping. Room is big enough for our family with two kids. recommended if you are traveling with family.
Review 38:Coffee in room bad and not free. You pay for any extra. I was sick and asked to leave at 1:30 - ok but must pay € 60!
Review 39:Big room, great location in a train station ! Very helpful friendly personnel.
Review 40:A bit of noise from the station The hotel was VERY pricey
Review 41:Location - directly attached to JR station Super- helpful concierge - one of the best ever really nice rooms great breakfast
Review 42:noise from train station check-in employees
Review 43:loved the exchange machine loved that they billed in us dollars loved that the management spent time to listen and help me loved that the pool had a swim suit spin dryer
Review 44:hotel is old. don't expect much of the room, still very clean due to high level of maintenance. lounge is actually serving nothing but coffee.
Review 45:easy access, from Osaka airport and from Tokyo, trains arrive beneath the hotel to Kyoto station very easy even for first arrival to Japan. hotel resides above a mall and a department store, 10 minutes from city center by taxi , $7. very clean, variety of food in breakfast.
Review 46:Overcrowded buffet restaurant missing amneties
Review 47:Helpfull and efficient staff roomsize for standard room excellent location for moving traverllers(nara, miidera) Breakfast corner in the lobby, quick service and not over crowded
Review 48:None
Review 49:Excellent location for transportation, dining & shopping. Above the train station. Buses and taxis are in front of the hotel. Plenty of shops nearby. Perfect location for tourists! The room is spacious by Japanese standard.
Review 50:Nothing that comes to mind.
Review 51:It's location is excellent as we always travel to Kyoto via Shinkansen. It's a great base from which we can explore other places near Kyoto.
Review 52:Room menu lacked in deserts. The mall downstairs is luckily more than enough to compensate.
Review 53:Wether to take the subway a cab a bus or a train (Shinkansen included) the Granvia is ideally placed.
Review 54:We travelled with our 70+ years old parents and 2 kids below 10 years old in December 2014. The hotel was centrally located within the Kyoto train station, so easy to navigate both the aged and the young as we made our way by train to Nara, Tokyo and other local sites in Kyoto. The weather was very cold when we arrived in Kyoto after a 7 hour flight and an hour's train from Kansai International, and we were so pleasantly welcomed by the lovely heating, easy check in process and best of all, our rooms were so spacious. We had reserved an extra bed in each room, and room facilities catered for 3 in the room easily. This was not our subsequent experience elsewhere in Japan so we doubly appreciated- and missed - the Granvia Kyoto experience. We also found the easy access through the hotel passageway into the kyoto ramen street and food halls such as Eat Paradise so convenient, we were able to shop eat and sleep almost indoors most of the time , which was appreciated when travelling with the aged and the young. Loved the heated toilet in the room! Cost may be higher than other accommodations in the area but you can't go wrong with this hotel if you want to minimize walking. excellent value.
Review 55:As might be expected slight noise from railway, as our room was on the railway side, but this did diminish overnight.
Review 56:The spaciousness of the room, the lovely view over to the hills and trains arriving and departing, nice bar, efficiency of service including laundry. Great range of shops and restaurants in the railway complex, and nearby.
Review 57:Slightly on the pricey side given the facility was a bit worn out
Review 58:Location, next to JR station and just one minute walk to the main bus station Booked kikunoi kaiseki through email before arrival - and it worked
Review 59:No view: Our room faced into the courtyard but was at the wrong height so we were looking into the courtyard roof and didn't have a view either of the city nor the courtyard itself.
Review 60:Location: We stayed here our first night in Kyoto and visiting Fushimi-Inari was made easy by a direct train. Visiting Arashiyama would be equally easy, again by a direct train. Access to Higashiyama is via Raku tourist-oriented bus. Service: The staff here was polite and efficient although it's a bit unnerving when the staff stop and bow as you pass them in corridors (I definitely don't feel worthy enough to be a 'sama'). Food tip: If you're into ramen, try the ramen "street" on the 10th floor of the building on the north side of the station. Take the escalators up to the top and hang a left to enter then take your pick of 8 different styles.
Review 61:I rang through to book breakfast and was told a voucher would be delivered to our room. It never arrived and when I tried to explain this to the front desk they did not understand what I was saying due to limited English. We ended up paying more for breakfast due to this. I would think that a hotel of this class would be able to coverse in English as at the other hotels we stayed at. Perhaps it was only the staff we encountered.
Review 62:The hotel was lovely situated right above Kyoto Station, so very convenient for day trips and meals, as there are many dining options at the station. The beds were really comfortable and we were given a room near the elevators, as requested. The hotel is huge with extremely long corridors so if you don't enjoy walking request a room near the elevators.
Review 63:If you come to Kyoto from Osaka airport, the bus drops you at Kyoto station on the opposite side of the hotel. Can be difficult to get to the hotel on foot with luggage. Easier if it is by Shinkansen.
Review 64:Excellent location for transportation, dining & shopping. Very friendly and helpful staff who will help you to arrange travel and dining. The room is spacious by Japanese standard with a great view of Kyoto.
Review 65:Room and corridor slightly worn though very clean. To get to my room I need to walk through a long corridor passing through many kitchen and service facility swing doors. (There are quite a few rooftop restaurants and a bar on the floor) That strip of hallway smells like wet kitchen with worn carpet.
Review 66:Love the convenient location after a long train ride. Great hospitality. Amazing service. Requested a double room during check in and got upgraded to top floor with great view and access to lounge. Large room. Love the multiple entrances from JR., Shinkansen, Keitetsu. Lounge have great view, variety of beverage and very good service.
Review 67:Very comfortable hotel and extremely courteous staff. Location is ideal as a central point for day trips around Kyoto by foot or train. Breakfast buffet is a great deal, and concierge provided very good recommendations for area restaurants.
Review 68:Wifi was very slow, but extra modem provided solved the problem.
Review 69:Convenient Location, spacious room & amenities, quiet & clean. Easy reach to all bus lines and shopping, restaurants nearby.
Review 70:No wifi reception in my room (8th floor) Staff seemed a little unnverved and pretentious rather than gracious
Review 71:Great location Proximity to shopping Ability to find (non room service) food closeby
Review 72:no coin laundry service
Review 73:the location is excellent. because the hotel is inside of the kyoto train station, it is very convenient to take the train. And the bus stop is just outside of the kyoto train station, so it saves me a lot of trouble, especially when I was traveling with my 2 year old. There are all kinds of restaurant options nearby in the shopping street or in the department store. The tempura restaurant in the hotel is excellent too. We have been there twice.
Review 74:There is no coin laundry in the hotel.
Review 75:location is wonderful, especially when I travelled with my 2 year old daughter. No matter where I wanted to go, just go down the escalator and you will see the bus stop and you can also take trains too. You can find restaurants in the department store which is inside of the Kyoto station. The tempura restaurant in the hotel is excellent too.
Review 76:There were no problems finding the Granvia when we got off the train in Kyoto! The room was very comfortable and large by Japanese standards. The staff were friendly and efficient. Special mention to the young woman on concierge duty. She let us know, when asked for some obscure information, that she would get back to us. Next morning she provided the information we needed having obviously done some research overnight. The hotel is also handy to a raft of bus lines.
Review 77:I am not sure that the rooms in the lower floors are as good as the ones we had on the 15th floor.
Review 78:The hotel is part of the beautiful piece of modern art aka Kyoto Station. Our rooms were wonderful and they were in the 15th floor with superb views of the city. Needless to say that the location is perfect for those who come with the shinkansen train, and Kyoto is a wonderful city. As usual in Japan, the staff was very helpful.
Review 79:Wifi slow and would sometime disconnect.
Review 80:Best location to explore Kyoto and the vicinity, as all bus connect to the station A changing room was availabe while waiting for our room to be ready Front desk staff always courteous and helpfull Same with the cleaning staff, they always make you feel confortable.
Review 81:Breakfast was not included.
Review 82:Location was the best, inside the station. You can travel everywhere from the station by bus and train. When it rains, you can enjoy shops and restaurants without getting wet. Our room was huge and had slippers, pijamas, etc.
Review 83:Room space was excellent but have to say that got an upgrade room from a standard to deluxe free of charge. Location is excellent on top of Kyoto station: very convenient especially if you are doing the common day trips to Inari, Nara o Hiroshima. Staff is very professional, very helpful and speaks good English. Good wifi throughout the hotel, including rooms
Review 84:the gym was too small. and even hotel guests have to pay to use it.
Review 85:the bathroom - the tub and shower next to it with several options including a body water spray the bed - huge. and i am 1.9 meters tall. the view... we were upgraded to a high floor room that faced the kyoto tower, and mountains on the horizon. couldn't ask for more. the venue - right above the main train station and close to the pick up point for the Sunrise tourbus.
Review 86:Pool/hottub was extra cost
Review 87:Location location location.... cant beat rolling out of the station and up to the room, with plenty of shopping and food nearby. Although the room had no view of anything other than train platforms, the room was suprisingly quiet and well insulated from the train noise. We cancelled our next hotel and extended our stay here. Nuff said.
Review 88:I didn't like leaving....
Review 89:I liked everything; location, restaurant choices, bus accessibility, and concierge service. I especially enjoyed the Japanese style bath.
Review 90:Nothing! Just wish they had a gluten free menu.
Review 91:They accommodated special food allergy as well as they could with room service. They were helpful with absolutely everything with gracious attitude.
