Reviews for Hotel Gimmond Kyoto

Review 1:The bed and the noise - doors are paper thin so can hear everyone coming and going in hallway.

Review 2:The location, was near the markets, the subway, the imperial palace and castle.

Review 3:The room is quite small, a bit troublesome to move luggages around. The price was a little over than its value given that the visit is in peak season.

Review 4:Very decent location and friendly staff with nice customer service. An old hotel, yet clean enough so still okay to stay at.

Review 5:the air-con was operated by the hotel, you could not adjust it... just had to open the window to let in cool fresh air.

Review 6:location, around the corner from lots of shopping and food, great service

Review 7:no air condition is acceptable during autumn. so we choose to open the windows but it was too noisy even we are at the top floor. Bathroom is one step up on the floor where we don't expect it when we step out.

Review 8:location

Review 9:The room was really small and the facilities was a little old.

Review 10:Clean old-fashion western hotel. Nice location near subways. And we could go to Kamo River by walk.

Review 11:The wifi stopped working and we had to go to reception to have it restored. Staff were apologetic though, and managed to fix it for us. The pillows were hard as rocks and made my neck very sore in the mornings. I ended up sleeping with a folded up towel instead.

Review 12:Reception staff were lovely and spoke some English, which was helpful. We were able to leave our luggage after check out until about 6pm when we were able to come back and pick it up. Hotel is in a good location, walking distance to quite a few attractions.

Review 13:My suggestion unless your unable to find accommodation else where to give this place a BIG MISS!

Review 14:The only redeeming quality of this hotel was the location. If your wanting a good night sleep forget this place! The beds are awful and should have been replaced with new by now. Grossly over priced for at best a 2 star rating. The rooms for price and comfort are ridiculous! Breakfast is OK if you like set Japanese or Western, either way you will still walk out hungry paying 3000 yen for 2

Review 15:A glass slipped off the sloping shelf in the bathroom and broke. This was cleared up very promptly by the staff, but the shelf should be level, not sloping.

Review 16:Helpful staff and an excellent location. Appreciated the tea maker and cups, plus a fridge in the room.

Review 17:I noticed that I could here the road from my room

Review 18:The hotel is perfectly located, very close from a subway stops which is the crossing of 2 main lines. It was very easy to find. The staff was very nice and friendly, and the room was also nice

Review 19:too smail , we cant open two luggage at room

Review 20:good location , facilities in room are good, comfortable place.worth to stay again when i go kyoto next time

Review 21:Furnishings looks a little aged. But everything was superbly maintained and cleaned. No problem whatsoever.

Review 22:Very clean and friendly service Good location with good bus and underground links to major attractions. Within reasonable walking distance to shopping and eating areas.

Review 23:Not a 3 stars. Old furnished rooms. Old smelly bathroom. Staff kind of rude. Old hotel in general. We paid 20 000¥/ night, not worth it AT ALL!

Review 24:Well situated. Convenience stores near by and subway as well.

Review 25:If you wanna hiv the Center of kyoto you will need to take a Subway for two stations.

Review 26:The staff is really friendly, the room is clean and with an ok size for what we paid. The street is really quiet and cool. Subway is very close.

Review 27:Very good hotel in a very good position. About 5 min walk you find karasumaoike station that is the intersection station of the only two metro lines in the city. So from here you can go in al lot of places fast and cheap. Staff was kind and helpful for everything!! If i'll come back to kyoto I will consider it again!!

Review 28:The '3rd bed' was hard and not comfortable, was a convert of sofa-bed, plus without proper mattress. No enough pillow, only 3 pillows for 3 beds, and 1 of it was to small and flat. The water boiler kettle is too small, container of 500ml water is not enough for 3 cups of coffee or tea.

Review 29:Good location, safety and comfortable environment, clean and well equipped room. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 30:Staff most helpful. There's one particular staff, a gentlemen who speaks good English, going all the way to help in finding direction & even downloading from the web , the city metro map. Thks very much.

Review 31:5 minutes walking from subway station Karasuma oike, close to Nijo temple, Imperial Palace of Kyoto. Friendly staff, helped to rent a bicycle. Good service, clean rooms, free wi-fi.

Review 32:Could not open the room's windows. Not even to breath fresh air :/

Review 33:The location... it is in the middle of the city centers... the hotel is also located between 2 metro stations ;)

Review 34:No freezer in mini-fridge, laundry facilities very expensive, no major major complaints.

Review 35:Centrally located, not too far from train stations and about a 10 minute walk to shopping street with bus access. Surprisingly spacious room for three.

Review 36:Being missled in quality and size of room ,had booked months ahead but shown to horible room and had to ask for change but could only offer a twin bed room being a married couple we were not happy . The staff were capable and helpfull especially 2 trainees Cloe and kosuke but booking so far in advance was totally misled with room so would think twice on returning . And asking for some recompense would be an option

Review 37:Positìon and staff

Review 38:The basin's faucet needs repair for the slight leak; told the Front next AM dropping the key. They said OK after checking but I reported the same at check-out time to leave Kyoto, the water leakage may cost a lot for the Hotel as well as it's waste!

Review 39:Location, cleanliness and services were great; stayed for 8 nights or so in 2014. I'll will book again whenever I come to Kyoto.

Review 40:Not many eateries along the street of hotel, however not bothered a great deal

Review 41:Just a short walk from the karasuma-oike subway station, so very convenient to many kyoto attractions

Review 42:Unfortunately the bathroom is a down side together with the price. The vent in the bath is so weak that it cannot expel all the moisture created during the shower. Thus one must open the bath door and let the steam come into the room. Further, one must open the room window in order to get the moisture out. But the window in the room has a sticker stating that opening is prohibited. The price is also twice as much as you would pay in Osaka and Nara for the same conditions.

Review 43:The location is quite good being close to a underground train station inner city. Close also on foot to Gion.

Review 44:There is a smoking area just near by the reception. Sometimes, the air was thick with cigarette smoke in the room. Some staff can't speak English well. the room is quite small. Except those, it's a not bed hotel.

Review 45:It's near the subway station. Clean room. Kind staff.

Review 46:Only problem was building work while we were staying on roof and were top floor, it was supposed to start at 10am but On our last morning started at 8.30! Not a major problem for us as we were awake by then. They did apologise and this does finish by the end of March so should be finished very soon!

Review 47:The situation of the hotel was great, right by the tube station and you could even walk within 20 mins to lots of sightseeing destinations. The WiFi was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 48:They do not turn the air conditioning on , despite they say the rooms are air conditioned at this time of the year.

Review 49:Location, good price, near metro station, good staff

Review 50:Smoking should not allowed in the hotel's lobby. Better have a separate area for smoking.

Review 51:Location, staff and facilities are the best for staying at the hotel.

Review 52:Not a complaint but it'd be a plus to have a English speaking channel on cable.

Review 53:Enjoyed my stay in Kyoto very much. HGK is in an excellent location. Approximately, a 1/8 of a mile from the subway stop where both Kyoto subway lines can be accessed. Plus, there are restaurants and stores within walking distance. The VERY excellent Nishiki Market is approximately a half a mile away. The staff in true Japanese fashion were super polite, friendly and attentive. The room though small by North America standards is typical of Japan. But the room was comfortable and the hotel is very nice. If I ever return to Kyoto (and certainly hope I do) I'd absolutely stay here again.

Review 54:The only thing that I didn't like was that there was a lounge area in the lobby for people to smoke. It was hard not to notice or smell it. There was always at least one person smoking there. It is located between the entrance of the hotel and the elevators to the guestroom floors, so you couldn't possibly avoid it. That is my only complaint.

Review 55:The location was great. The price for staying more than three nights during the middle of the week was excellent. The rate went up quite a bit on Saturday, but that's not surprising or unreasonable. Housekeeping was great at respecting the do not disturb sign on the door. One day, we got up really late and didn't leave the room until after noon hour and they didn't disturb us. The room was always cleaned such that it looked like we were entering it for the first time, even during stay-over days. I was quite impressed.

Review 56:Everything met our expectations!

Review 57:Amazing location right in the centre of the central shopping/ market area of Kyoto. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms can be small but perfectly adequate and all come with a fridge. A perfect base for seeing Kyoto. Great value for money!

Review 58:The staff was very friendly. I stayed in a total of 3 hotels during my stay in Japan. Gimmond's staff was most friendly. Room is spacious and clean. Near to convenient stores and eateries. Highly recommended.

Review 59:Breakfast is just OK; there are great cafe options nearby

Review 60:The location is great for shopping, catching buses to sights that are further away such as kinkakuji, but also walking distance to the sights in higashiyama

Review 61:Breakfast not one of the cheapest but very good.

Review 62:Good hotel in a central position. Nothing to complain if we are a bit used to the Japanese standard. Very good front desk.

Review 63:Only downside is the position as to walking to main central area of Kyoto. About 20 minutes, Price a little to high for the age of this hotel.

Review 64:English speaking staff at reception were courteous and helpful. Room was older style but very clean and comfortable. Would stay again for a few nights, was pleasantly surprised.

Review 65:Smoking smell at the lobby and bed is hard. Front line Staff could be more knowledgable in offering help in giving directions and recommendations to places of interest. The map given by the staff was very basic with no much info.

Review 66:Location, location and location. However , to move around places of interest, you must do some research on the local buses as the front line staff did not offer much advise

Review 67:Excellent location - walking distance from Nijo Castle, Imperial Palace, National Museum of Kyoto and subway. Room was comfortable, clean, had wi-fi access, coffee/tea in room. Staff spoke English and were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people, and I certainly would stay there again.

Review 68:Beds and pillows both very hard and uncomfortable. Noisy with being able to hear other guests near by. Dated decor, linen, and furnishings.

Review 69:Spacious room, helpful staff

Review 70:Location close to bus stop and to the subway stop for both metro lines. Within walking distance to Nishiki Market, Teramachi and Shijo Dori. Very helpful staff; clean and quiet rooms. We will be back for a third time!

Review 71:Not a big issue, but the smell of smoke in the foyer was only confined to foyer. Also no laundry on site, but there was one only about 5 mins walk away.

Review 72:We had two rooms and we possibly had a bigger rooms than normal. For the price, this was a great place to stay. Very comfortable.

Review 73:The bed is quite small but we expected that from Japan.

Review 74:The hotel is relatively close to the subway station. The staff were very friendly and gave us very good directions so it was quite easy to navigate. The room has a fridge which was awesome to keep drinks cool when we returned to the room.

Review 75:English can be improved

Review 76:Staff kindness, big rooms, it was possible to have a bed for the child (adding more or less 1800 yen per night: this is not always possible in Japanese hotels)

Review 77:WiFi speed is quite slow and can not send outgoing mail.

Review 78:Hotel is located at good location, not far from Kyoto train station and very near subway station where can buy the food and miscellaneous good at reasonable price.

Review 79:Lots of transportation nearby (bus, metro, train 2 stops away on the metro). Several convenience stores around, and also lots of various restaurants. The service was beyond polite, staff - very helpful and friendly with good English, they helped us with navigation and sightseeing. The room was spotless clean and very convenient - mini fridge, bath amenities, etc.

Review 80:Nothing in particular. If I were to say something, the japanese restaurant in the hotel was not very good, too pricey for the quality considering the other great choices nearby. I did not try the italian restaurant so I can't say anything about that.

Review 81:The hotel was great, clean and comfortable. The staff was really helpuful when inquired about the city. Great location, 2 minutes walk from the subway station at the intersection of the two subway lines of the city.

Review 82:This is our second stay in this hotel and like the first time the offered service met excellently our expectations! Very professional and polite staff!

Review 83:Noise from elevator or construction heard in our room Air-conditioning control panel had no effect Maid turned off air conditioning and fridge every day Beds were very lumpy and sleep was terrible Small room No view (brick wall) Bathroom was dated Pillows were flat and tired Smoke in lobby Charge for newspaper in lobby Air conditioning in lobby was turned down

Review 84:2 blocks from subway

Review 85:It need to talk some distance and just find the bus. The bed is too small.

Review 86:This hotel is near one 7-24 opening restaurant with great and competitive price food. The hotel staff are professional. It close to subway station.

Review 87:I travelled with 2 friends and 2 beds were fine but the third one was just a sofa that we had to use as bed and that one was uncomfortable.

Review 88:The location is excellent; also, the staff is really friendly and they will help you with information related to transport and highlights of the city.

Review 89:The staff was super - extremely helpful and helped us select a tour of the city. Accommodations and location were also great and convenient to transportation and tourist sites.

Review 90:nothing to complain about!

Review 91:The staff was very friendly and helpful! There were lots of amenities in walking distance. The room was comfortable, quiet, and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will always stay here when in Kyoto!

Review 92:Good bang for your buck. Staff was friendly, place was clean, bathroom was a bit small but I realized it's small everywhere in Japan unless you go full on luxury.

Review 93:Smoking in the lobby, not a good first impression to a neat hotel

Review 94:Best location, surrounded by a plethora of restaurants and shops. So close to Karasuma Oike train station.

Review 95:The hotel is a bit of a hike away from the main station and the subway/bus fares add up

Review 96:Friendly Staff. Location was close to a night market type area.

Review 97:Great location. Excellent staff who helped with bus tickets, ideas for where to go, maps and booking trip back to the airport. Good room, not huge, but more than sufficient.

Review 98:Helpful and friendly staff. Convenient location. Nice tea.

Review 99:shower drain was blocked

Review 100:Very large room 2 single beds`

Review 101:The room space is limited in japan

Review 102:Friendliness Immediacy regarding any inquiries

Review 103:I didn't have a bad service with them at all.

Review 104:The staff spoke fairly good English and the service was superb.

Review 105:Location Value for money

Review 106:The rooms are just too small even for Asians. It will not be my first choice to stay next time when I visit Kyoto.

Review 107:Too old, location is far from Kyoto station, too expensive for early of Dec.

Review 108:Maybe room need to upgrade

Review 109:Perfect location near station, near 24 hour restaurant and 7eleven

Review 110:Restaurants are not what we expected.
