Reviews for New Miyako Hotel

Review 1:The hotel is a bit dark - not the bright cheery kind which I prefer. Very long winded corridor and I am put right to the very end!!!

Review 2:Near to Kyoto JR station with plenty of food places to eat. Good comfortable rooms.

Review 3:Great location directly opposite Kyoto train station. (We took the bullet train from Tokyo). Good family size rooms with inter-connecting rooms for larger families. Comfortable beds. Easy access to tours and restaurants. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 4:The beds are very firm. For those who like a firm mattress, this will be a treat. I, however, prefer something a bit softer.

Review 5:It's in an amazing location, close to lots of excellent restaurants and within walking distance to the Kyoto Station.

Review 6:The location was fantastic, easy access being across from the train station. Yet no noise could be heard from the room. Fantastic staff, couldn't be more helpful. Really clean rooms, simple but big enough for a Japanese hotel.

Review 7:Our room was very far from the elevator and we need to went through long and dark way before we got to our room. the hotel is a bit dark and dusty. It has an old ambiance which is not match with the price.

Review 8:Horrible experience trying to print a document from the internet. What they call "business centre" is just two old coin-operated computers, one of them out of service, with the slowest internet ever. After more than half an hour waiting for the computer (it was busy with someone trying to print as well) we were unable to load the required page in less than ten minutes and desisted. We knew then why the previous guests were taking so long. On top of this, there was an extra 10% charge added to the price shown in booking.com.

Review 9:King-sized bed. The pillow was uncomfortable but I was able to get a softer one for the second night.

Review 10:Staff in night shift was rude especially if you are Chinese do not stay in this hotel. Encounter 2 night shift female staffs. Spoke zero English and very rude especially u can tell that they are looking dwn on Chinese but forget that they are only receptionist at front desk and spoke zero English and poor in mathematics.

Review 11:my own fault...too many tourists... price for the room...at least there should be complimentary water for hotel guests...

Review 12:location is perfect and excellent !

Review 13:Basement bar's interior needs refurbishment (but excellent service makes up for lack of atmosphere). No 'boutique' experience - this is a big and rather packed place.

Review 14:Very good location opposite Kyoto Station. Very nice and helpful staff; top service. Well refurbished and spotlessly clean rooms. Excellent breakfast buffet (booking incl. breakfast is highly recommended). Great choice for all kinds of travellers. Good value for money.

Review 15:It would be perfect if the bathroom is a bit bigger.

Review 16:The concierge staff are excellent, always patient and helpful advising the transportation and locations for sight seeing. The front desk staff service is very professional and friendly. In short, every hotel staff is helpful. The room space is good.

Review 17:Footsteps from above floor at night, unsure where it is coming from.

Review 18:Location is excellent. Room size is comfortable for family of three. Short distance to shops and train station. Yoshinoya is across the hotel and the set meal is as good as some of the high end restaurants (due to limited English translation for the menu).

Review 19:nothing is bad in here.....

Review 20:-Just opposite to Kyoto Station. Very convenience for shopping and good food in the Isetan and shops in the Kyoto Station. -Bus station also located in the Kyoto Station. -Local mocha cookies, pharmacy, food store just in the Kyoto Station. -24 hours laundry shop behind the hotel

Review 21:Having booked two rooms, we were automatically placed in two rooms with a connecting door which was very convenient for us. The staff and concierge were very friendly when we asked for directions to different tourist sites. Overall a great experience, the buffet had a wide variety and the location was super convenient to get to the JR station!

Review 22:We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. My daughter had lost her phone on the flight and staff at the front desk (Mr Chen) helped us call JAL's lost & found department to get us back the phone. We truly appreciate his help.

Review 23:Nil.

Review 24:The location is fantastic as it's just right opposite the Kyoto station. I booked 2 rooms and they are connected to each other. Rooms are spacious and clean. Hotel staff are helpful and friendly.

Review 25:No onsen & gym.

Review 26:Location is good! Just opp the Kyoto Station. Room is spacious, clean & comfortable. Definitely a good choice to choose this hotel as it is extremely value for money. Highly recommended.

Review 27:Prime location when you catch the Limousine bus from Kansai airport, just get off at Kyoto station Hachijokuchi (8th street exit). only takes 5 mins walk to the hotel. Another reason I booked this hotel is the day tours depart from here, therefore I don't have to wonder around the picking up point.

Review 28:Bed and pillows were firm.

Review 29:You could not ask for a better location in visiting Kyoto. 500m from the airport limousine bus terminal, across the road from the kintetsu Kyoto station, restaurants and shopping malls all nearby, super convenient. Rooms were large, modern and clean. Toilet and bath were small but clean and functional. Excellent hotel with friendly staff.

Review 30:The queue for check in was very long, it took over 20 minutes. The walls of the rooms are thin making it noisy. Staff whilst polite were not friendly.

Review 31:Convenient location, opposite the train station. Good gift shop.

Review 32:The bed and pillows were hard. We had a very disappointing view of a concrete building from our rooms. My husband was woken by jack-hammering across the road at 1:45am 2 nights during our stay.

Review 33:Proximity to Kyoto Station and its shops and restaurants as well as Aeon Mall was excellent. The room was clean and a reasonable size for Japan. Great souvenir shop on the lower floor.

Review 34:Management is very strict on check-in time. We can only check-in at 2pm.

Review 35:Room was spacious and clean. Gave us extra pillows when we requested. Gave recognition that we were on our honeymoon and gave us a sweet card. Staff was really friendly and helpful, always ever ready to help us with directions.

Review 36:Great location behind Kyoto station. Service was top notch - friendly and professional, as you would expect in similar level hotels in Japan. Close to many giftshops and restaurants in the station and a Uniqlo - handy for additional clothes in your travels. Central to buses to all the key temple areas and of course the JR network.

Review 37:The location is right beside Kyoto station, which is very convenient for getting in and out of the city but it's not near the city centre. We had no problem taking the bus to get to the city centre for restaurants, shopping etc. It's a big hotel, so expect lots of large tour groups.

Review 38:Beautiful hotel. Very helpful English speaking concierge. Good buffet breakfast with both Japanese and "Western" food. Room was very big compared to all the other places we stayed in Japan for approximately the same price.

Review 39:The internet service in the lobby is all in Japanese!! Please install some English instructions on usage and facilities in the IT room.

Review 40:Helpful and courteous staff

Review 41:The staff is very strict about the check in time. A flexibility of 1-2 hours early checkin doesn't hurt!

Review 42:Location is right across the station. The rooms are big for Japan standards.

Review 43:If I was booking again I would try for a room at the opposite side of the hotel from the train station as the noise of the trains woke me a few times.

Review 44:Warm welcome from the staff and helpful explaining the features in the room on arrival. The room was nice, very clean and comfortable.

Review 45:Terrible mattress and pillows which was so firm that it gave us a neck ache every single day. Hotel restautants are super expensive, much more variety if you step out to the malls next to Kyoto station.

Review 46:It's a convenient hotel with a good location.

Review 47:Only single beds available, Expensive breakfast. No rooms on weekend, we had to change hotel!

Review 48:Great position, friendly staff and cleanlyness. Occidental style room with Japanese bath. Big size beds.

Review 49:Like a lot of these hotel deals, there are good rooms and bad rooms - you get what you pay for.... likewise some days are a good rate and if you want to stay another day the rate can be high...

Review 50:For a Japanese hotel the room was large. Although it is a big hotel, with 1000 rooms, my room was quiet and a view onto the courtyard. The breakfasts were great- with much variety.

Review 51:From our room on the 10th floor, we could hear the train noise from the Kyoto station. Maybe their room acoustics need to be improved.

Review 52:Hotel location is just right across Hachijo exit of Kyoto station so it is convenient since there are many restos and souvenir shops located at the Kyoto station.

Review 53:The breakfast was quite factory-like, with lines of guests waiting to enter, and unfortunately not worth the wait.

Review 54:The hotel is particularly well located to the train station, which is much more than a train station, it is the center of life in the district: surrounded by food and retail establishments.

Review 55:This is the only hotel in our entire trip to Japan that does not provide complimentary bottles of mineral water!!!

Review 56:Location - it's a short walk away from Kyoto Station. Tons of shops and restaurants in Kyoto Station to shop and dine at.

Review 57:my room is facing to train station so it's quite noisy in early morning and all day. room is pretty small for such prices. bed is too soft.

Review 58:great location, close to Kyoto station and Shinkansen and many car rental shops and convenient stores around. friendly front desk staff.

Review 59:No guest laundry! Undergoing external works making entering a challenge, inside was spectacular!

Review 60:From the moment we entered, the staff were exceptional, the porter who brought out suitcases to our room was one of the best I have met. The rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Location was fabulous!

Review 61:- no facilities - tiny bathroom - the mattress was super hard and the pillows were very uncomfortable. slept very badly. Had a bad neck after few days of stay at the hotel

Review 62:It is a convenient hotel right next to the Kyoto station.

Review 63:Aircondition in room is not cold, requested to adjust , but the hotel couldn't do it because it is central air, advised to open window, or using fan, noisy from underconstruction road outside.

Review 64:Location is perfect closing to Kyoto station.

Review 65:Hmmmm, I suppose it really comes down to how tired the room seemed. At first glance the hotel seems to be a market leader with a gleaming lobby and trim breakfast area. The rooms were another matter feeling like they belonged to a hotel from 20 or so years ago. Expensive for what it is, but that really seemed to be the story for all Kyoto accommodation.

Review 66:The location really is the winner here. Right outside Kyoto station, it's super easy to hop a train or a bus to wherever you're going.

Review 67:Because the hotel was very bussy, we must wait about 30 min for check in. Few television channels make us bored.

Review 68:Friendly staffs, clean room, perfect location, good cloak and room facilities.

Review 69:The beds were very hard/firm.

Review 70:The location was great, requests made for room were met (quiet, non-smoking, high floor) and there were no issues during our stay. Room was clean and housekeeping was excellent

Review 71:None

Review 72:The rooms although small , was very clean . The bed was comfortable. I was amazed that water from faucet was potable . Hotel was walking distance to Aeon Mall (which has Uniqlo Store) the kyoto station , convenience stores and some good restaurants in the area. Will recommend to my friends.

Review 73:No real bathroom, only a wet room - I thought that has long changed in Japan.

Review 74:Its walking distance from the Shinkansen/JR Station even with heavy luggage - if you find the right exit ! don't go for Central Exit.

Review 75:Some rooms can be noisy due to proximity of the busy train station. Rooms are only single glazed and there are a lot of trains ! Suggest asking for a room facing the central courtyard and away from the main road and train station, Rooms are also a bit small.

Review 76:Easy to find location near the train station

Review 77:The eateries were a bit expensive, they were never full would have been nice to have somewhere to have some coffee, cake or a light snack at a reasonable price. But saying that there is plenty in the train station shopping areas. Lost revenue !!!

Review 78:A very good location, right across from Kyoto train station. Reasonably priced accommodation for Japan

Review 79:The location just opposite the jR train station is fantastic. Checkin was smooth and the refurbished rooms were comfortable although wardrobe space was lacking. Liked that the hotel truly practised an Eco policy on room cleaning

Review 80:Excellent location, the hotel staff were helpful, the buffet restaurant was great and plenty of choice. Hotel is Value for money as easy for transport to areas as close to trains and buses.

Review 81:Rooms need upgrading reception area very nice does not match quality of rooms.

Review 82:Upgrade on arrival but had to ask for it as it was honeymoon I did expect something but only a card bought up with bags....no amenities for gift

Review 83:Prices for breakfast were high, so we didn't choose that option. Pillows and bed are very firm compared to what we are used to.

Review 84:Great location to the train station. Very nice hotel.

Review 85:Nil

Review 86:Hotel location was excellent just across a street to Kyoto Station, making it very accessible to various sights. The front desk and concierge service staff were very friendly and efficient. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Thanks!

Review 87:I can hear the next room chattering and laughing.

Review 88:The bed are big compared to the previous hotel that I stayed so it is comfortable to sleep as I need to shared the bed with my baby. Location.

Review 89:Overall, though the concierges were extremely polite, they were not prepared to give clear options on how best to navigate the City or where to visit. The instructions for an already confusing subway network were handwritten on a scrap of paper.

Review 90:Predicatable

Review 91:We were in the old part of the hotel, which was a little dated. Our friends got a room in the new part of the hotel. There room was really modern and nicely furnished.

Review 92:Good location, near the train station.

Review 93:A very comfortable hotel. Very conveniently located on the south side of the train station. All public transportation leaves 10 minutes walking distance on the north side.

Review 94:Good location right next to Kyoto station which is a starting point for trains and buses. Big room. Huge, nice and clean hotel with professional staff.

Review 95:Location. It's located in the back side of the station very close to the shinkansen rail. Very noisy. Morover the street is in reconstructiomwhich makes it even less appealing. Not convienent to catch the buses daily. Wifi very slow.

Review 96:Good beds, very clean and spacious room and excellent breakfast

Review 97:The convenience of location. Hotel is right accross the Kyoto train station. Many shops and restaurants nearby. There's the Aeon Mall next street over.

Review 98:Slowly wi-fi, very frustrating. Hotel restaurants were much more expensive than in the neighborhood.

Review 99:Easy access from Shinkansen. A lot of services near at Kyoto station.

Review 100:Terrasse looks weard, green carpet (artificial gras), not feng shui, no pool, bar closes at 24.00. quite far from center.

Review 101:Good hotel, clean and next to trIn station.

Review 102:Room a little small by western standards. Ate in the ground floor restaurant it was pretty good. Slow service in the restaurant.

Review 103:Great concierge! She explained a lot about taking trains in Japan. Very knowledgeable on the city.

Review 104:There is absolutely nothing "New" about The New Miyako Hotel. Bed is hard, A/C isn't cold enough, internet is as bad as it can't get, staff is not very well prepared and breakfast not included in a regular room.

Review 105:Location is great being in front of the train station. There are 2 malls at less than 3 mins away in walking distance. Also elevators are quick.

Review 106:It's a huge hotel with a super busy lobby, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Review 107:Great location, clean and spacious rooms. Wifi is strong. It's the pick up location for many of the group bus tours which is convenient.

Review 108:I liked it all.

Review 109:It is a top class hotel very conveniently located next to the Railway Station. We were travelling by Japan Rail so were in our room a few minutes after arriving. The staff were cheerful, courteous and very helpful.

Review 110:The hotel kept about $500.00 Ausd pending on our travel money card over and above our bill till we arrived home and sent an email complaining which meant we had to load more money on our card while we were away ( not happy )

Review 111:Front desk service was rather inflexible. In all hotels so far, we are allowed to 'check in' before the official time (at Miyako it's 2 pm) in that we can at least register we have arrived, deposit our bag & return later to check in. This was done eg by Hotel Gracery at Shinjuku - who also sent our bag directly to the room when it was ready. In New Miyako, the receptionist insisted we could only check in at 2 pm or later. Why so inflexible?

Review 112:Excellent location within 5 minutes walk from Kyoto station (once we figured out which exit to use) Room was big - we booked the twin room

Review 113:The hotel looks grand, but the staff were least personable among the 4 hotels we stayed during this trip (the only person greets us is the doorman). The rooms were ok, but sound isolation is poor, there was no safe in room, the the refrigerator doesn't keep food safe (it is posted on the door stating so). Can't fit two older children in the same room so had to get extra room. It feels like it is for tour groups, and not for family travelers.

Review 114:Location. Once we found it, it is an easy walk to the stations.

Review 115:Language barrier If japanese tourism encouraged need to hv more people who can speak both language english m japanese

Review 116:Location n convininiet All good places close by shinjuku ginza Close by shoppingall in the train statoon

Review 117:Old, too busy (waiting lines at the elevator to get to the room), tiny rooms, bed was really horrible!!! too hard, could not get any sleep, loud room (from traffic and train station), bathroom was like a cabin on a train. This hotel was really bad compared to many others I stayed in when in Japan! Staff don't recommend JR - even though most foreigners have a JR pass and can travel for free with JR lines. Don't book!!!

Review 118:Nothing! The lobby looks nice, although you will not find a quite minute - very busy - and unlike with other hotels you will feel and see how busy this hotel is. Really bad hotel!!

Review 119:The concierge - Ms. Tyudo - excellent and very very customer friendly. She from Kyoto gave us a locational map of Glico factory around 40 minutes from Kobe with even the most minute details of train then the local train, bus number, platform number with duration and fares. The whole journey was seamless and without any hiccups. Thanks to Ms. Tyudo.

Review 120:It was a standard business class hotel right next to the Kyoto station and surrounded by two decent malls. Location Ok if you don't in taking a short ride in a bus or the subway to the main tourist sights.

Review 121:Some of the in-house restaurants closed by 9pm - even the buffet restaurant which seemed a bit odd. We arrived at 8.15pm and the staff looked shocked we should want to eat so late!!! So if you arrive on a late train get to the in-house restaurants by 8pm at the latest!

Review 122:Very accessible from Kyoto Railway Station, Bus Station and Kyoto Tower and close to some Temples. Friendly Staff. Check-in was open from 2pm rather than the official 3pm. Plenty of restaurants/cafes nearby including a shopping mall next door. Discount of 10% off most in-house restaurants. There is a Sunrise tour desk in the foyer which can be handy should you want to go on an organised tour.

Review 123:Breakfast was expensive. There were lots of cheaper food options at the Station. Wifi was slow and intermittent, even using LAN cable was equally bad - very disappointing for such class of hotel.

Review 124:Spacious room for triple. Location very near to Kyoto Station.

Review 125:Great location, 5 mins walk from Kyoto train station with all its shops and restaurants; friendly and efficient staff; two connected rooms (very comfortable); good value for money

Review 126:They are very strict about the check in timing and they do not tolerate even half an hour early check in. The room was so small that we could not open 2 mid-size luggages at the same time.

Review 127:The location of the hotel is very convenient. It is very easy to access everywhere in Kyoto from the Central Station, which was 3 min. walk from the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable.

Review 128:We asked for a non smoking room, I would have assumed we would have been on a non smoking floor. I would suggest questioning this if this is important to you as it was to us. Gross having to walk to and from your room breathing in toxic air. The beer garden we payed 3'600 each for a cold buffet! Even when they put new food out it was cold.

Review 129:The location was good for the train. The staff where very lovely and helpful. The room was large in comparison to everywhere else we had stayed in Japan. We got a twin room instead of a double to have room to move.

Review 130:Staff attitude can be improved. We found the older staff much more courteous than the younger one.

Review 131:We stayed in a premier triple room in the main wing overlooking the centre yard which has a fountain. It was big room and quiet. The bed was firm and hard which is really good. We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

The Fine Print
