Reviews for Vaana Resort
Review 1:Incredibly helpful and attentive staff. We went to Habarana to try to photograph some unusual animals and Taraka the manager arranged everything we asked for, no matter how complicated. The resort is next to lake filled with a menagerie of birds. There were also troops of grey langur monkeys that would swing through the grounds, and striped squirrels, big monitor lizards and lots more to look at. The room was nice and the food at the resort was delicious and beautifully prepared. We would definitely recommend Vaana as a good base to explore the surrounding natural and historical sights.
Review 2:Room and surrounding were dark in evening with lot of mosquitoes (May be issue with this area). It had open bathroom from one side of roof with constant water dripping. Dont know if all rooms have this issue. There were insects and frog in bathroom. I did not take bath in my 1 night stay and hoped to leave soon for next destination hotel.
Review 3:Location is very good for Elephant Safari and Elephant back ride. Both these were well arranged by staff. Staff was very good. Like one man army doing everything quite efficiently. Breakfast and Dinner were good.
Review 4:Missed having refrigerator and tea making facilities in room. It is necessary to arrange with staff to clean the rooms - the staff are very respectful of guests privacy. Table cloths in Dining area need to be changed more frequently.
Review 5:Quiet and restful location, pleasant walks around the lake and short walk to town centre. Staff were very attentive (only guests) and helpful, providing and arranging activities and transport - safari, elephant ride, to train station. All meals were delicious Sri Lankan style.
Review 6:Room was full of insects, not helped by the open air bathroom that served no purpose. No options for food, just served what was available.
Review 7:Location and staff
Review 8:The poor service, lack of intercom n poor water flow in da showers including hot water Mosquitoes in da rooms Proper recreation
Review 9:Close proximity to parks n town Also da adjoining vana
Review 10:Just outside the resort, the drivers take the cars they use for safaris to the river to clean them. That meant we were woken up at 6 in the morning (which wasn't very welcome the first morning, after arriving late) by music that definitely wasn't to our taste. It's not the fault of the management at Vanaa, but it still affects those who live there. We stayed at Vanaa 3 nights and during that time nobody cleaned the room (didn't even empty the garbage cans, which I found strange). I also missed a frigde.
Review 11:The room in itself was big, so was the bathroom, but simple. Our plane was delayed, so we arrived very late at the resort. When we arrived there was an issue between our driver and the management because they didn't have any driver's room and it ended with our driver had to sleep in the car. We decided to stay out of their quarrel. We were really well treated by the manager, who made us a lovely sri lankan breakfast. We also had nice dinners there, and the mangement was really nice to us.We liked the surroundings very much, but be aware of mosquitos, bring repellent.
Review 12:It wasn't bad per-say, just for the price we expected a bit more. I've stayed at much cheaper places in Sri Lanka that offered some of the services and amenities that were lacking at this hotel. The didn't have a maid that came in to do simple things like make the bed or empty the bin; no kettle, tea and coffee or mini fridge; no bathroom extras apart from a slither of soap and no sheets that actually fit the bed so you had to sleep one sheet per person on the same bed. The pillows were also dreadfully hard, like Fred Flintstones would have been right at home. Lastly, while we had three different devices, (two phones and one computer) we weren't able to get a usable wifi signal on any of them in the room or even the breakfast area - you had to kinda stand in the middle of the pathway outside.
Review 13:The location of the hotel suited us perfectly as it was close enough to the town that we could walk in, but was still remote and quiet. The manager was very helpful, always there when we had any questions and helped us book a few things as well as called tuk-tuks for us when we needed them. The AC in the room was strong and worked well. The room was also large and spacious. Breakfast was also delicious.
Review 14:- The wifi didn't quite reach some parts of the room, and was sometimes not working.
Review 15:- Huge clean rooms - Bathroom was massive. - The breakfast was really tasty, huge portions and changes daily.
Review 16:Shower could have more reliability and pressure, as well as better drainage. No room service whatsoever, which after 4 days was already really needed. Payment only cash, although they take also main foreign currencies. Owner / manager a bit pushy offering the tours and paid activities. A bit hard bed. Wifi perfect in common areas but it would be nice to have good connection in the room.
Review 17:Beautiful, wonderful setting in the jungle. Atmosphere something truly special. Very nice interior of the rooms. Nice lake and village with friendly locals nearby. Close to all the activities in the Cultural Triangle and to jungle safaris. Wonderful traditional Sri Lankan breakfast and good value and quality dinner. Free bicycle use. Manager very pleasant and helpful in giving advice on the area. Good selection of paid activities and services. No hidden taxes which other hotels sometimes like.
Review 18:The place is very new. They have a huge menu list but you can only orderone or two things from the list. We asked for a taxi service to bearranged and it was a rip-off. We paid twice the amount we paid in otherparts of the country.
Review 19:They gave us Sri Lankan breakfast
Review 20:Tharaka, the best host we had in our 2 weeks trip around sri lanka, provided us with anything we needed and took good care of us. He gave good advice about visits and arranged various vehicles to lead us there. The food was awesome (try the kottu!!) and we appreciated the traditional breakfasts! Very calm surroundings to spend quiet nights even if you could be woken up by monkeys dancing on your bedroom roof ;)
Review 21:Quiet peaceful location close to Habarana. Good base to visit the local attractions. Tharake a great host who went out of his way to organise excellent tickets for the perahera in Kandy at no benefit to himself. The food was also excellent
Review 22:Quiet setting near two lakes where you can see birds and local life. Amazing breakfast prepared just for you. One day I saw a couple eating what I'd had another morning and was ready to have it again, but I had a different breakfast. Dinners were also quite good. The owner is very welcoming and attends to all guests warmly. Bungalows are huge and comfortable.
Review 23:Food in the restaurant was ok. Not a lot in the area. A little expensive.
Review 24:Enormous room with mod cons. Nice place to stay. Very helpful staff. Lovely large breakfast. Rice and curry good. Quiet area close to safari.
Review 25:The location next to a small lake teeming with bird life. Tharaka, the manager, really cares about his guests and arranged some great trips for us with excellent drivers/guides. We spent our first 5 nights in Sri Lanka here and were glad we did so - a great introduction to Sri Lanka.
Review 26:Nothing.
Review 27:What a wonderful place to stay, and at such an affordable price! I couldn't believe how nice it was for the price. The staff are really accommodating and helpful with things to do in habarana. The food was the best I had in 2 weeks in Sri Lanka after travelling all around the country. The egg kottu was amazing - so good we got a tuk tuk back there the next night from the other hotel to have dinner there again. The Sri Lankan breakfast was also sensational. I can't recommend this place enough, I wish I had stayed there for the entirety of my stay in habarana.
Review 28:Nothing, everything was nice.
Review 29:Te place is in a perfect location to visit both sigiriya rock and mineriya national park.its new and beautiful. Tharek the manager and the rest off the staff were very helpful and nice during our two days stay. And the food they cooked was a delight.
Review 30:Very kind and helpful hotel maneger, perfect trip organisation with fair prices, the bungalows are very confortable with a high ceeling and ariconditioning we liked it so much that we extended our stay.
Review 31:Staff were great, very accommodating and helpful and helped us organise an elephant safari with an excellent guide/driver. Loved the feeling of being "in the jungle" and how there was amazing birdlife in the pond just meters from the hotel
Review 32:Not stable and good working Wi-Fi in room, only in reception
Review 33:Comfortable and quite big room, good and cheap food made inside hotel and friendly owner who are happy if the customer happy and he can offer good price of safary tour for customers.
Review 34:Conveniently located, in the cultural triangle near by several natural reserves, the resort offers everything you can expect and even more. Tharaka, the owner, is very friendly and easy-going. He arranged all of our excursions with the best tuktuk driver of the area, Mahenda, who took the time to guide us through our visits. Tharaka always asked for what we would like for breakfast and dinner, and even surprised us with some treats. The food was delicious, really copious. In addition of all that, if you are lucky, you can see a few monkeys jumping from tree to tree in the resort ! It was a very pleasant stay and we were sad to leave.
Review 35:Loved my stay at the Vaana Resort. Absolutely charming place, located near a local lake which is a fantastic place to walk to in the morning. The area itself is extremely green, the only sounds we heard were birds' singing and local children playing ball, waving "hello" to us. We were introduced to the local type of breakfest and thought the food was delicious. Thank you guys for welcoming us so warmly.
Review 36:We stayed in a beautiful room and had some of the best meals in this resort. The owner was very helpfull and puts in lots of effort to make you feel at home. From habarana you can make lots of one day trips. Thank you tharaka, fir the lovely stay!
Review 37:you need to pay in cash
Review 38:The room was very large. the bed was extremely comfortable. The father and son who runs the hotel were so helpful. The food was great. Make sure you arrive before sunset so you can walk along the lake edge as the sun goes down. So many birds and animals. You will love it-- I did. Do the same walk early in the AM.
Review 39:The surroundings to be more lit during the night. It was very lonely.
Review 40:Was comfortable place.
Review 41:everyting is there, but somehow lacks atmosphere
Review 42:very friendly owner, helps out with excusions. great sri lankan breakfast!
Review 43:Not able to cater for family in one room. No Menu or buffet for breakfast.
