Reviews for Bicheno by the Bay

Review 1:I felt it was a bit pricey compared to other accommodation we had been to.

Review 2:Bicheno is beautiful and the property is well care for and obviously loved by it's owners. The owners were lovely...very accommodating and relaxed. It was a pity we couldn't stay longer.

Review 3:The town of Bicheno basically shuts by 5 pm and if you don't know that you can find your self without a meal. ! Town food prices were outrageous !! The little dam in the property is beautiful to look at but would be a nightmare for parents of little ones as there is no fence around it ! Take care and keep your eyes on small children around the dam. Could of done with a microwave especially when very very limited meal venues and booked out restaurants . Long night if hungry !

Review 4:The bed and pillows were very comfortable

Review 5:It was our first time in Bicheno and I would have liked if the staff were a bit more helpful in advising us what was around to see and do and where to eat.

Review 6:The kid's canoe pond and swimming pool was disappointing. In the summer, the cabin was very hot during the day, fans or air conditioning would've been good. Also spider webs can be found around the cabin.

Review 7:The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cookery.

Review 8:Unfortunately, internet connection was very expensive. It should be free as it is just about everywhere else

Review 9:Great location and comfortable accommodation, close to the water

Review 10:Loved this place! Beautiful bush setting. Great for younger kids. Unfortunately we only stayed one night and didn't have time to take it all in. Great wooden cabins.

Review 11:Could not get heatpump on to heat mode but was outside of reception hours so had to snuggle up with electric blanket on. DVD shelf in an awful spot. Huge potholes in entry driveway.

Review 12:View of lake, close to blowhole, modern room.

Review 13:Couldn't get wifi in the bungalow

Review 14:Very near to the beach, can view penguins coming back from the sea at the beach and even crossing the road at night

Review 15:The exterior of cottages could do with a new coat of paint to give a better first impression. The staff were not unfriendly but cold be more smiley and welcoming.

Review 16:Centrally located. Easy walk to whalers lookout and blowhole. All amenities provided with sufficient heaters. Room downstairs with toilets beautifully renovated.

Review 17:Very dated and not worth the tariff paid. I understand that this accommodation has been there for about 40 years and it is in need of modernising

Review 18:Ideal location convenient

Review 19:Is situated close to water where there are a lot of penguins- i didnt sleep much the first night as they made such a racket moving through the park. However i used ear plugs the 2nd night and that worked well.

Review 20:Well equipped self catering cabin, nice heated pool.

Review 21:Noisy floors!!

Review 22:The stunning local scenery. Cabin was comfy. Nice and wArm. Unfortunately it poured for our stay so we couldn't take advantage of the deck.

Review 23:Poor Wifi reception.

Review 24:Great location walk to town centre. Dont let the outside view of cabins put you off, very cleen and tidy and updated on the inside

Review 25:The location is wonderful: a lovely park-like setting. The room I stayed in was very well appointed, and I'd certainly stay there again .. and for longer next time.

Review 26:There was no microwave in the room. You had to go toghe common room at the back, which wasn't the best option in the pouring rain. Stayed 2 nights, and this had the most uncomfortable bed of the 5 nights we hotel hopped. The blankets were not too cozy either and only covered 3/4 of you.

Review 27:The new motor inn style rooms were perfect, modern and comfortable. Location was convenient to restaurants and attractions in the locality.

Review 28:Walking distance to the hotel to eat, at the base of the hill for the lookout, close to the blowhole, ducks on the pond, the use of the bucket and cloth to wash the car!

Review 29:We were in a room facing the lake it was very relaxing watching the ducks and listening to the birds in the natural environment around us. The location was very close to the beach and all shops which was really handy. We watched penguins come in at night at the blow hole, went to the Sunday market and visited the Motorcycle Museum which was very impressive. We had lunch at the local pub which had fantastic coastal views. Yes the accommodation and location was perfect, clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and we would certainly stay there again.

Review 30:We have two kids and they got heated swimming pool, tennis, playground, kayaking in a pond keep kids busy. And location is Close to everything yet still in a bushland.

Review 31:Paper thin walls inside the unit. Due to the unusual heat an ant infestation at one point during our 3 day stay.

Review 32:Fabulous location and good facilities. Comfortable beds and quality linen - which is vastly different to 30 years ago!!!

Review 33:The unit was very spacious and modern, with a outside deck to relax on. The location was close to the main street and was well set out with lots of shade.

Review 34:The kitchen was overall clean and tidy. However there was a reminder tagged in front of the kitchen stove in Chinese only - please clean every plate that you used and leave the kitchen clean. A little bit condescending and discriminating? I am not sure about the hotel's previous experiences but I would recommend to change this reminder / warning to be billingual. Thanks.

Review 35:We enjoyed our two bedroom cottage very much. Everything was beautifully placed in the living room, kitchen and bedroom. Both rooms were equipped with queen size beds and bedside tables.

Review 36:70s decoration and styling - comfortable, not 'classy'.

Review 37:Very clean and tidy. Great location - easy walk to Blow hole or town. No useable wi-fi.

Review 38:No air-conditioner in the bedroom and bathroom so that we have to open the door between living room and bedroom. No free wifi.

Review 39:The location is perfect with easy access to the blow hole and penguin tour center. The cabin is really beautiful both from outside and inside with broad space.

Review 40:We had not Aircon / Heating and hot water for our 2 night stay!! What a shame! The owners did their best to help out, offering extra heaters and the use of a vacant motel-style room for showers. It was strange that there was no BBQ for guests to use. They had a firepit and forks for roasting marshmallows, but no BBQ. This is definitely a place to enjoy a BBQ, but we could not.

Review 41:If you look past the dated interiors of the cabins, this is a lovely spot to stay: great location overlooking the water; close to restaurants and an award-winning bakery; a pool, tennis court, playground and 'canoe lake'; washing machine in your cabin.

Review 42:Set amongst the trees and a few minutes walk from the ocean, the villas are spaced far enough apart to create a real sense of privacy. Beautiful surroundings and we even saw two penguins at the end of the road on our way home from dinner. Only downside was we were only here for one night.

Review 43:VERY UNTIDY , ROOMS VERY BASIC, AND OUTSIDE SMELL LIKE SEWERAGE TREATMENT PLANT. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT WE RECEIVED.

Review 44:Penguins and bakery

Review 45:Location,view, cosy cabins. Excellent management. Cabins are rather dated but are undergoing refurbishment. Good playground for children. Fire pit for cold nights. Plenty of wild life. Penguins return home within 100 metres.

Review 46:The iga closes at 530 on a weeknight, so that was annoying, how do people who work do there groceries? But no problems with the accomadation

Review 47:Location, friendly/helpful staff

Review 48:The shower was AWESOME! Lovely little deck overlooking a lake with ducks, very cute little place and very conveniently located would recommend it to anyone.

Review 49:Requested a 3 bedroom it wasn't suitable for families young children, with separate entry downstairs for one bedroom. This should be in description on site. Unit while clean is dated and shabby, definitely needs an overhaul. While in a great location I don't think it was worth rate charged.

Review 50:Good location

Review 51:It was a cold day when we arrived so it was lovely to see that the staff had already switched on the heaters in our rooms and prewarmed the cabin. It was really cosy and well appointed. It had everything that you needed and was good value. Very close to everything that Bicheno has to offer and the Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 52:No bad experience. Even if there is, the excellent customer service will resolve it.

Review 53:Excellent customer service Excellent advice given by staff Staff going the extra mile to help Close proximities to penguin watching & attractions Close proximities to town and award winning Blue Edge café Very clean and spacious property

Review 54:It wasn't a big deal but the room was quite cold (June) and the a/c took a long time to warm it up at night.

Review 55:Nice room, lovely grounds and close to everything.

Review 56:Everything you need in a lovely holiday location. Short walk to blow hole and shops (Had a delicious breakfast at the Bicheno Bakery). Undercover parking, washing machine, bush setting, veranda overlooking the ocean.

Review 57:The beds were very uncomfortable also the lounge very uncomfortable no BBQ facility and no wood available for the outdoor fire pit

Review 58:Proximity to the water and views

Review 59:Bedroom was very cold - better insulation is required and a heater in the bedroom. The bathroom was also cold and the bar heater was inadequate.

Review 60:Good location, liked the layout and the undercover car port. Also good quality self-catering equipment.

Review 61:Thinking that by paying so much we should have at least free wifi, but the reality is nasty.

Review 62:Close to blow hole, can see some wildlife animal if you are lucky. Comfortable and cozy room.

Review 63:The wooden framed pretend sofa was far too soft and it was hard to get up from it without sitting on the wafer thin wooden frame !

Review 64:Excellent Central Location Coastal Position Penguins walking across the road The blowhole Tasmanian Devils Swimming Pool Canoes on the mini-lake

Review 65:Wifi is temperamental .

Review 66:Location,location,location. Cleanliness of our accommodation, friendliness of the staff and onsite facilities such as heated pool, tennis court and the duck breakfast parade past our room in the morning.

Review 67:Seaview chalet seemed to have a lurking fish odour but was not really a problem - sort of got used to it.

Review 68:Loved the ocean view and sound of the waves . A great place just to relax and enjoy. Very comfortable, clean chalet with enough space between chalets to maintain a sense of privacy and peace. Could have stayed longer.

Review 69:Great bay location for walking, eating and relaxing while living in a comfortable cabin. The freshest sea food right at the wharf, nothing fancy just the best fish & chips ever!

Review 70:We just loved the little cabins. They were unusual, very comfortable and the views to the sea were matchless. We had two fabulous days exploring this beautiful area. There is so much to see. Make sure you go on the Devils in the Dark Tour to see wild Tasmanian Devils in their native habitat. Just an awesome experience.

Review 71:no wifi. not every apartment has bay view. bed is not very comfortable.

Review 72:the apartment is clean and kitchen is well equipped for extensive cooking. the estate has other shared facilities such as a small pool and bbq pits. the estate is within walking distance to Bicheno town.

Review 73:Due to the terrain it was very very steep driveway . Difficult to get cases up and down stairs. But you cope .

Review 74:Views. Location. Funky decor, layout and balcony , all very good.

Review 75:Notjing

Review 76:The accomodation was beautiful, we stayed in the motel which was modern and overlooked the pond at night sitting on the balcony you could hear the beach highly recommend

Review 77:Our shack accomadation. Not anything like the photographs on the site.

Review 78:The beautiful coastline and the town. Walking along the foreshore path was a delight.

Review 79:The place for DVD shelf was very unreasonable. It's in the narrow passageway and hard to be seen. People will be easy to get hurt. My husband was hit on shoulders twice. For me shorter, hit on head when getting up in the night.

Review 80:We stayed in a wooden house by the lake. The room was clean and tidy but compact. There is a guest laundary which is convenient for long journey guests. One of reason we stayed there was to see the Penguins. But later on we found Penguins in many places of Tasmania. Not only there.

Review 81:View from deck, close walk to all restaurants and beaches. Staff very helpful with info on area. Just walked across road to see fairy pensions that night.

Review 82:As we were travelling with another couple, we had meals together, which we prepared in one or the other bungalows. It was disappointing and inconvenient to have only the bare minimum of crockery and cutlery in each bungalow. A few extra plates, knives and forks would have been handy!

Review 83:We loved the walk down to the very picturesque beach. As our fellow travellers were visitors from England, we liked the wildlife also.

Review 84:The old cabin with mould in rooms, noisy floorboards and being charged the same price as the new A Frame cabins. that are represented in the advertising, we have been ripped off, we did notify the reception of our disappointment when leaving the key.

Review 85:The location.

Review 86:Newly renovated apartment with lovely views of a man made lake in amongst groves of trees and a variety of cabins on a vast area of land. Close to eateries in town while having your own private space and verandah to enjoy the views.

Review 87:Scratched my brain and nothing turned up !

Review 88:The close proximity to ALL the attractions incl. the Blowhole and Whalers' Lookout. The comprehensive cooking facilities and utensils. And the sight of penguins, wallabies, crabs and even the rare wombat makes BbtB the choice accommodation !

Review 89:Wifi isn't great and it's time capped but that's common in tasmania I think.

Review 90:We had a nice room looking over the pond (home to the cutest family of ducks). It felt like our own personal cottage! The front porch was nice to eat breakfast. A quick walk to the town for dinner.

Review 91:Nothing wrong with stay really. We stayed in 5 different accomodation places on our 20 day holiday in tassie, and this was the most expensive per day , but I guess it was Australia day long weekend.

Review 92:1 bedroom bungalow , very roomy had everything we needed for 4 night stay.

Review 93:WiFi signal difficult to obtain

Review 94:Lodge room was comfortable and served our needs. Short walk into town although you needed a torch to find your way home.

Review 95:We were able to relax in this well appointed chalet in a beautiful part of Tasmania. Little penguins, excellent seafood and a blow hole, who could ask for more?

Review 96:It was easily managed by myself as a person using a walking stick. We had the use of the disabled suite so the bathroom was a dream. I could also manage to use the laundry easily. A lovely place to stay.

Review 97:We were 4 adults and required similar rooms. The 2 nd bedroom was a children's room with 2 single beds,no bedside lighting. Limited clothes hanging .

Review 98:Loved the cabin facilities. The view from the balcony was just lovely, and we had everything we needed. Everything was clean and well looked after. Walking distance to the Bicheno Blowhole. The staff were an absolute delight. I would thoroughly recommend this spot for couples wanting a romantic interlude.

Review 99:wifi

Review 100:Nice and helpful reception, comfy place to stay, kitchenware allowed us to cook the seafood we got from the dock, lovely experience here that we caught lots of fishes by booking a boat

Review 101:Town with a nice feel to it, and easy 40 minute drive to Freycinet National park to do a half day hike and take in the beautiful Wine Glass Bay. Get there early though for close parking, as we did. Very comfortable huts with everything, and in a great location!

Review 102:Rooms were a little tired, could do with a update. Nice curtains and good kitchen facilities. No clothes dryer in rooms.

Review 103:We enjoyed the fact it was so close to town so we could walk to facilities. The kids loved the heated pool and canoes on the small lake.

Review 104:We were required to stay in a two bedrooms even if we have two small kids which didn't really need 2 rooms. Would have been helpful if we could get a apartment that have twin beds that can fit 4people

Review 105:Not here long enough to dislike anything.

Review 106:Only stayed here one night arriving late and leaving very early so to be fair cannot really comment on this place fully but it seems like a good family friendly, close to the sea accommodation. Bakery in Bicheno on the main road was excellent for breakfast.

Review 107:The bathroom was very dated and the part of the shower screen was missing. While overall very clean, mould on the grouting of the shower detracted from the charm of the cabin. An exhaust fan in the bathroom would help with the mould.

Review 108:The location was lovely and the overall cabin was comfortable and well appointed with everything you need. Staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Review 109:We travelled with another couple and stayed in a 3 bedroom lodge. The main bedroom was very nice with balcony access. The second bedroom was really for kids....two small single beds and next to the toilet so any nightime visits were very audible! The third bedroom (also two single) is downstairs with the only toilet/bathroom upstairs.

Review 110:This is a park style hotel with wooden cabins. Good location for catching the nightly penguin run! Also for a quick trip into 'town' for the restaurant run! The cabin was very wooden (!) but comfortable. I would stay again and Bicheno is a good base when touring the East coast.

Review 111:The 3rd bedroom is at the lower deck which is quite easily accessible as it does not have a door at the garage for security reason.

Review 112:The apartment was good and spacious for our group.

Review 113:The only real negative I would say if I had to give a negative is maybe there should be lights outside the units from the car park, it was just a bit difficult going up the path and steps in the dark. You could turn a light on for your unit ....but ..that was from the inside.

Review 114:For a number of years we owned a shack at Bicheno but eventually sold it but still love going to Bicheno so we chose BBTB we have stayed there before and will definitely stay there again. It's central, clean and welcoming. We stayed in one of the units this time.

Review 115:Easy to find, clean, comfortable and centrally located cabin style accommodation, great for families - friendly staff and easy check in/check out.

Review 116:Chalet was very close to a pond.found it difficult to sleep due to croaking frogs.

Review 117:The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean.the staff were very helpful. Good facilities-laundry+dryer. Deck to sit on.Very. Modern bathroom.

Review 118:Stayed overnight and loved the earthy, rustic feel of the private, clean, fully self contained, well equipped cabins set in a beautiful park setting opposite the Blow Hole. Bicheno Bay is just stunning!!

Review 119:Old single beds, but double bed room is quite modern. Old bathroom and a bit inconvenient to have a another bedroom downstairs with no toilet at all.

Review 120:Nice living room, comfortable couch, quiet location. A short walking distance to the beach and to shops.

Review 121:Overpriced. The motel rooms were noisey, could easily hear every word your neighbours said, & what they were doing at night. The windows, screens & outdoor furniture were dirty. All in all a very ordinary experience, and would not stay there again or recommend to anyone

Review 122:The accommodation was a little dated and no BBQ which usually makes it easier with a family.

Review 123:The location and facilities were excellent. The family had a great time. The staff were very helpful.

Review 124:Wi-fi didn't extend to our cabin but could use from common areas.

Review 125:Plenty of room, friendly and helpful staff, good location - could see fairy penguins from deck, plenty of wildlife at night
