Reviews for Hotel Casa San Francisco
Review 1:Nothing! All great!
Review 2:The rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated! The staff is very friendly and happy to help to find your way around! The bar/restaurant is great too and good value for money! And the little pool is an extra plus! All in all enjoyed our stay and its location at the heart of granada (without being in the middle of the craziness pf some hotels) made our stay the perfect start of a longer trip around Nicaragua!
Review 3:Hotel Casa San Francisco was a great place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Granada. The staff was so helpful and kind. We were there over New Years and the location was great.
Review 4:It's really overpriced at $95 for a double including taxes
Review 5:The Staff are amazing, really helpful. The Location is great and the Casa is really cute and tranquil set in lovely grounds with a small pool and roof top terrace.
Review 6:Friendly, smiling staff...friendly, smiling owner (Terry), rescued parrot (squeak), tortoise and baby, cool shaded pool, comfy beds, fantastic breakfasts........
Review 7:We reserved the deluxe room but it is located just above the kitchen. It was really noisy and we were woken up really early in the morning because of the noise. For this price, we really don't recommend this place to anybody.
Review 8:The room is clean. It is not far from the Central Park.
Review 9:Nothing stands out.
Review 10:What a beautiful hotel! We felt right at home here, with comfortable rooms and friendly staff. The food was some of the best we had in Granada.
Review 11:a small problem with the wax used on the room floor that died the bottoms of my feet bright pink, but it was cleaned up by the staff and not a problem afterwards.
Review 12:Friendly and helpful staff, clean and nice-smelling rooms, original decor, lots of nice places to sit and read/drink/eat, shampoo/soap/conditioner provided in bathrooms, nice shower, good amenities, fantastic breakfast included that comes with a big thermos of coffee and milk, nice location right near the center but not too close, works closely with other tour operators if no tours are offered.
Review 13:We had a budget room (but didn't realise until we got there) and it was very small with tiny windows so very dark.
Review 14:Good location, friendly staff (Shane who runs the bar is super lovely - they do an excellent happy hour too), good breakfast options, nice plunge pool.
Review 15:Only recommendation would be to put some hooks or hangars in the rooms. We had three big closets, but no where to put anything except on the floor.
Review 16:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although our Spanish was poor we were able to communicate well enough. The location was nice and quiet but close enough to everything.
Review 17:Nothing to mention here.
Review 18:We very much liked the property itself, which is a beautiful colonial building, as well as the staff, who goes the extra mile to make you feel at home. Our room was on the first floor, and had every bit of comfort we needed (and beyond). Breakfast was great (still dreaming myself back to that cup of black Nicaraguan coffee). Location was great as well, three blocks from the Central Park and Cathedral, so close to where the action is, but thankfully not right in the middle of it.
Review 19:Because of construction, the room I had booked was not available. The room I had was rather dark inside with poor lighting. It lacked a comfortable chair to sit in. It seemed I was cleaning floor with my white socks.
Review 20:A very charming place. Nice interior garden. Friendly staff. The beds were comfortable. Easy access to activities in Granada.
Review 21:bathroom was small and outdated
Review 22:Very friendly and helpful staff, charming courtyard and pool. In-room wi-fi, breakfast in the courtyard, towels provided at the pool
Review 23:I liked that is was away from the Main Street so it was away from the noise but close enough to it to easily walk to. The room i stayed in was comfortable but nothing special, but that is all I needed was a clean bed and bath for the two nights. I was out all day exploring anyways. It also has a very nice breakfast that was a part of your room price. And a nice little roof patio to relax.
Review 24:Nothing really. All was fine.
Review 25:Staff very friendly. Beautifully designed hotel and rooms. Hot shower. Very close to plaza. Swimming pool. Rooftop views. Decent restaurant on the premises. Wifi.
Review 26:There was a small problem with ants in my room when I arrived, but I notified the front desk and this was taken care of immediately (a reality of Central America).
Review 27:This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is small and quaint, romantic, and has incredible detail. It is the perfect place to relax, has nice staff, and good food.
Review 28:Bed was not as comfortable as am used to but slept like a log nevertheless..
Review 29:Loved the location with 3 floors beautiful to look at: first floor with gardens and fountains, second floor terrace with my own private balcony on the one side and a view of the pool on the other side, and to top it all off, the third floor terrace with the views all around, esp. the cathedrals and Mombacho volcano catching clouds! The mosquito netting around the bed was fun to wake up to in addition.
Review 30:We absolutely loved Casa San Francisico. Everything about it was perfect for us. Very charming, wonderful/helpful staff and owner, room was comfortable, grounds are pretty, pool is refreshing, and the onsite restaurant/bar serves excellent and very inexpensive tapas. Also a great location, super close to anything and everything you need, without the hassle and noise of the touristy street. No doubt we would pick Casa San Francisco again. Missing it as I speak.
Review 31:We were looking for a relaxing couple days in Granada after a busy 2-week work time in Nicaragua. Hotel San Francisco was perfect: quiet, friendly service, excellent breakfast, good proximity to the central plaza, and a lovely room. We'll be back!
Review 32:The staff was amazing! They are so kind and sweet and happy to help in any way. The breakfast was delicious each morning and the hotel space was beautiful. A great choice to stay in Nicaragua!
Review 33:In order for me to give a hotel 5 stars there's a lot that has to be right and Casa San Francisco definitely met my high bar. For starters the staff was fantastic. They greeted me with a smile and when I greeted them in Spanish they responded in Spanish. When my son spoke to them in English they spoke to him in English. Throughout our stay they were always friendly and helpful. They had a good wifi internet connection in the lobby, restaurant and in the rooms. No issues. Breakfast was included. It included a selection on dishes from a menu (i.e. not a buffet or a pre-selected item) and everything was good. The location was ideal for our stay. It is a 5 minute walk from the main square which is great because it is convenient and also quiet at night. They have a small pool which was very clean and perfect for my son. Lastly, the rooms were very cute. Our was a little small but it had more than enough space for two people and a bunch of luggage. It was clean and had a locking storage cabinet and safe. Also, in the hotel lobby there's a really good restaurant (bocadillos). I'd recommend it for a meal, snack or drink. I highly recommend Casa San Francisco.
Review 34:The breakfast was strictly rationed. If my wife had wanted breakfast I would have gone hungry! They should replace their rations with a buffet
Review 35:Visiting the town in a horse and cart
Review 36:The "economy room" which we were only able to get for one night was nicer and cozier than the one that was $20 more. $75 plus IVA for what was on offer was highway robbery by Nicaraguan standards (even for Granada). For $20 less per night I would have been thrilled with what I got as I've stayed in much nicer places in Nica for that much less.
Review 37:The staff was lovely, wifi was decent, nice little pool open until late at night, good AC, good breakfast and comfortable beds. On a side note, Bocadillos, the tapas bar at the entrance to the building is not associated with the hotel but the drinks and service were the best I had in three months in Nicaragua.
Review 38:We were there in the hot season (99 degrees Fahrenheit), and it was very uncomfortable to eat meals in an open courtyard in such intense heat. During other seasons it would probably be lovely.
Review 39:The staff members were super and more than willing to put up with bad Spanish from us. Restaurant was quite good.
Review 40:great location, amazing staff, super clean, loved the restaurant/bar inside the hotel, and the breakfast was really nice. I would stay here again.
Review 41:Very helpful and friendly staff in both the hotel and bar on site. Helena, the manager, was very welcoming. Other hotels we stayed in felt very businesslike, but certainly not the case here. Great value with breakfast included. 10 options of breakfast to chose from. Very delicious. Nice clean pool to cool off in. We can't wait to come back!
Review 42:beds not too comfortable although is great value for money.
Review 43:Hotel is in a central location with beautiful pool / terrace area. Happy hour at the bar was great!
Review 44:We couldn't always connect to wi-fi, but since we were on our honeymoon, we were'nt trying to do work or anything important! The bed was pretty firm and made it hard to get a good night's sleep, but this was something we experienced at every hotel in Nicaragua we visited!
Review 45:The sisters who own the hotel were great to talk to and offered some good recommendations for Granada. We were only here one night, but enjoyed the small pool to cool off in the afternoon with their happy hour specials (the sangria was amazing). The location was just a short 5 minute walk away from the central area, but quiet enough to relax when we were there. The staff was very helpful and arranged for a nice taxi to take us back to the airport in Managua. I would highly recommend Hotel San Francisco!
Review 46:A small fridge in the room would have been perfect to keep cold water in as it gets very hot in Granada. Struggled to connect to the wifi at first but it eventually work (this may have been a network problem beyond the hotels control though as I believe the internet can be temperamental in Nicaragua)
Review 47:I was so pleased I chose Casa San Francisco for our stay in Granada. The room was lovely and the staff friendly. Breakfast was really good - plenty of choice. Good location in a quiet part of the town.
Review 48:I arrived on a Sunday evening, around 5 or 6, looking forward to taking a shower after the long journey. Unfortunately, the hot water heater for the shower was broken. I spoke to the guy at the front desk and he said, well, you'll have to wait till tomorrow since we are fully booked. The management I had been corresponding with via email was nowhere to be found, apparently they leave at night and do not return till morning so too bad for you if you need to talk to one of them. This is pretty much the case every night because I had called a couple days before and was told the same thing, call back tomorrow morning, no one with authority is here. The best part is it didn't require a huge fix - it was simply a broken fuse but the guy running the show at night had no idea about that. The guy at the bar one night seemed pretty interested in his phone and not too much in the guest waiting to be served.
Review 49:No noise at all, very cozy. They also have an upstairs terrace where you can go and sit in the evenings. Servers at breakfast were most cooperative and friendly. Breakfast was pretty good as well.
Review 50:very small rooms, at $50 it would be a good value, at $75, there are better options, I would pay more for cleaner and updated facilities, there is very little attention to the building maintenance as you look closely
Review 51:friendly staff
Review 52:Smoking allowed everywhere on the grounds (outside of my room, by pool, in restaurant) (I realize that Nicaraguan smoking laws differ from what I am used to, but still did not like it as a non-smoker), did not like liquid soap in bathroom.
Review 53:Location, fabulous breakfast, enjoyed meeting one of the owners at breakfast, pool, room, lobby...basically a great place to stay in Granada.
Review 54:Room was small but clean. A small refrigerator would have been a great help to have a cold drink on hand, as it was very hot.
Review 55:We were made to feel welcome.
Review 56:We stayed in room 6 for 4 days and at least once a day the toilet would stop flushing for a period of time. The front desk said it had to do with the hotel's water tank being empty and waiting to get it refilled, but it seems strange to happen every day. We asked other guests and no one had a similar problem. Our room also had a large metal bar sticking out of the floor under the rug next to the side of the bed - I tripped on it a few times. We and a few other guests had some difficulties at first connecting to the wifi or maintaining a good connection. My husband tried to use the hotel's computer to complete something for work, but the internet wouldn't work that day until someone came out to fix it. Our room was right next to the pool and we could hear everything taking place outside and pool side guests can hear your conversation inside the room if not talking very quietly. The bed is comfortable, but very squeaky... We enjoyed the hotel overall but would suggest staying in a different room than ours.
Review 57:Beautiful gardens, excellent location, and sufficient comfort. The lunch and dinner food at the little restaurant is delicious, although breakfast is just adequate. The little pool is very nice. The staff are helpful if you approach them.
Review 58:not much space besides the bed (if you backpack you don't need a cupboard but some space to lay out your things)
Review 59:very relaxing atmosphere, nice to chill out at the pool. Excellent breakfast.
Review 60:We received an excellent price for our room this year, however, it had a fairly strong musty odor. I don't know what could be done to give the room more ventilation - however, for the price we paid a little musty smell was minor.
Review 61:The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location very good. The breakfast and related service excellent. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Our room last year was very nice and the two rooms that our friends stayed in this year were very comfortable and nicely decorated.
Review 62:There was a metal protrusion under a rug in my room. The price was much higher than others paid. It was like a person should not ask about much...response was "can do nothing about that"!
Review 63:The coffee
Review 64:I showed at at 9am for breakfast each day, and it was at the end of the breakfast crowd, and the server was not happy to see me, and after the first day, my breakfast was missing items and I kept having to ask for the rest of it.
Review 65:The pool, and the rooms with a balcony.
Review 66:The staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to look after us, which was especially appreciated when I needed to see a doctor, which they arranged for me. The facilities a re beautiful, a good breakfast selection and walking distance from main attractions.
Review 67:Charming reconstruction of a colonial era house. Well maintained in every respect. Good beds, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast. Above all, a very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 68:Granada is much quieter and easy to navigate than Antigua in Guatemala. There was nothing other than a little pool noise after hours outside our patio that was mildly irritating.
Review 69:Maria and Helena are bilingual and most helpful from orienting us to the town of Granada to helping communicate details to the drivers we needed to take us to explore other areas. We will be back.
Review 70:Staff at the front desk very helpful and interesting. Great hideaway to hang out or use as a home base. Breakfast was delicious, good selection of bottled beer from the bar, pool courtyard so relaxing.
Review 71:Our stay in Granada was greatly enhanced by staying at this hotel. The staff was both professional and friendly. They went out of their way to be helpful by giving us tips and advice for exploring the city, and even helped me plan a birthday surprise on their rooftop for my girlfriend. We also took the volcano tour with Geo, who did a phenomenal job. I would highly recommend this hotel, and look forward to going back.
Review 72:The owners and staff were so helpful, suggesting places to go....breakfast was very good, the rooftop garden area..a great place to enjoy morning coffee. We loved the grotto feel by the restaurant and pool...lush plants and water sounds.Excellent value !!!
Review 73:The hotel is just off the main thoroughfares of the old part of the city, so it is perfectly located without being in a really loud area. Very clean and safe, rooms were perfectly equipped and well sized. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Would ABSOLUTELY stay there again. Highly recommend for the price.
Review 74:The room was a bit small, the hot water was erratic and the pool was more decorative than practical but these are small complaints in an overall very satisfactory accommodation.
Review 75:Casa San Francisco is a pretty, comfortable hotel on a quite street within easy walking distance to the city center. The staff and helpful and friendly, the breakfast was good and the room small but comfortable.
Review 76:Good location, beautiful courtyard, many comfortable touches from the owners. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Felt more like a home than a hotel.
Review 77:Rooms are small, breakfast was not great (worst one we have had in nicaragua) and waitress was really unfriendly. The restaurant area feels dark and oppressive.
Review 78:Friendly, helpful receptionist who spoke excellent english. Location is okay. We missed happy hour 3-6pm, but did have some hoisin ribs which were tasty.
Review 79:This hotel was everything I had hoped for. It was charming and felt like home away from home. Staff went out of the way to recommend restaurants and give directions. Room small but everything we needed was in it. Ate breakfast by pool. Hot water in shower was great and cool water in pool felt good. Grethel was so helpful. Would not hesitate to stay there again.
Review 80:Ran out of food at breakfast so be sure to arrive before 8:30.
Review 81:Rooftop patio had excellent views and was great for afternoon drink during happy hour. Staff were friendly and brought food and drinks to the rooftop.
Review 82:Great views from terrace Lovely garden & cooling pool Very well designed space just a relaxing time we both enjoyed all in all and the food is exceptional
Review 83:Fantastic staff, lovely hotel. Great central location and free access to Pure gym right down the street. Excellent breakfast. Giovanni who works at the front desk and also as a tour guide took us for a couple of tours; he is fantastic guide. All in all a great stay!
Review 84:NOTHING!
Review 85:Walking in the door of this boutique hotel you can feel the stress fall away. I booked for one night but plan to return for three days at the end of the trip. Clean, so much attention to detail, staff helped me to book my onward journey and changed my flights as I need to come back to Granada as there is so much to do and see. I love the staff, from housekeeping to reception treated us like valued friends. I can definitely highly recommend Casa San Francisco. Don't overlook this place. By the way the food at the restaurant is outstanding and lots of choices for the free breakfast.
Review 86:Noisy air conditioning in the room, and a heated shower mechanism thatdidn't look too safe to European standards, but worked fine!
Review 87:Brilliant central location, only a few minutes walk to the centralplaza. A beautiful central courtyard with a nice pool which was lit upat night. Breakfast was freshly cooked, which was a nice change from theusual buffet. Free filtered water available to refill any bottles.
Review 88:This review does not reflect the hotel- just the booking process. We booked the night before our arrival @6pm. We had an overnight layover in houston so I checked my email in the morning before departing to Managua. I had received the confirmation with booking.com of my reservation for the night. When we arrived later that day in Granada a staff member said my booking did not go through and they are "overbooked." The staff member commented that this "happens all the time." Maybe they need to streamline their booking process before it happens to more people!
Review 89:Nothing.
Review 90:This is a beautifully designed hotel, as an architect I admired their very creative use of space and lovely use of materials. It was quiet, comfortable and a pleasure for the 3 days we spent there.
Review 91:Very friendly & helpful staff, delcious breakfast, nice atmosphere. You see that the owner manages the property with heart. Guide Guivanni made a great day trip with us. Very clean! Free water ;-) Front Desk. Top!!
Review 92:The AC in our room was not working. The second bed was just an add on portable bed. Not the best comfort.
Review 93:Place was cute, clean, and good location. Breakfast was quick and tasty. Staff was very pleasant and helpful.
Review 94:Check air conditioning before checking in and hot water. Did not work. On second trip. Manager not so friendly. Glad to see Grethell later that morning...
Review 95:Well decorated rooms, quiet, easy to get around. Friendly service. First trip perfect. Front desk women Grethell was outstanding. Very kind helped us get cabs directions to Resturants.
Review 96:Stay at Casa San Francisco was everything and more. Our room was very clean the bathroom was great, we had an open window, that was not expected and yet wonderful. Across the street from very good restaurants. Parking was very accessible and safe. A lot of choices for breakfast, not just continental. I had the fruit and was surprised by the variety and amount of fruits. We will definitely stay at Casa San Francisco again and again.
Review 97:We stayed at Casa San Fransisco for 2 nights at the end of our trip. And we sincerely enjoyed this hotel more than any of the others we stayed in during our time in Nicaragua. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. And the hotel was only 2 blocks from the main area with restaurants etc. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 98:Wifi signal didn't reach our rooms. Room with twin beds on upper level was in need of several repairs, the bathroom door didn't close properly, safe was inoperative with codes (no batteries) but I figured out that there was a key entry. They didn't tell us this. Parking is not included, and the safety of paying the night guard in front of the convent is questionable; he never seemed to remember from night to morning that I had paid him already, and there are several homeless people who sleep on the patios of the empty buildings across from the convent. Location is not so great for either the park or the calzada - or better said, there are other options that are both cheaper and closer and still offer the quaint shaded repose needed from the Granada heat.
Review 99:Nice staff, quaint architectural repurposing of colonial building, daily paper at front desk for use by all, good food and service, nice bar (although didn't take advantage). By all appearances a nice little European nook in Granada.
Review 100:No mosquito net.
Review 101:We would definitely go back to this hotel! It was great: friendly service, charming room, great location, refreshing pool, good breakfast.
Review 102:The hotel was clean and small, felt like coming into an oasis of a home with a lovely, cool atrium. The staff was caring and helpful. When we needed an early breakfast, they were accommodating. When we needed safe, reasonable transport for an excursion, they connected us with a reliable, friendly driver whom we used two other times.
Review 103:There was nothing negative about this hotel. It was a wonderful experience and I recommend it highly.
Review 104:Hotel Casa San Francisco was a wonderful place to stay. My adult daughter and I stayed at this fabulous hotel for our base place throughout our first trip to Nicaragua over a period of several weeks. The owners of the hotel are lovely people and the staff is excellent. We were treated like family and everything from the room to the pool to the meals were top notch. I actually am coming back to live in Granada for a social work practicum and I could not have accomplished this without the help of the owner Nancy. The hotel is not only a great place to stay, but also a great resource to learn about the local culture and how to navigate around the city. If you want a wonderful experience in Granada, you can not go wrong booking this beautiful hotel.
Review 105:The location was great, a couple minutes to the centre of town. The breakfast was good. The pool was refreshing after a day of touring the town. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. She also gave us tips about Granada. We loved it there and we also loved Granada.
Review 106:great location, good food, clean, comfy, refreshing pool. awesome garden, and friendly staff
Review 107:Great staff. Very helpful
Review 108:Really cool place to stay, friendly staff and good location.
Review 109:Friendly and helpful staff. Very beautiful place, the pictures on this website do not reflect it, it's even better in real life
Review 110:Wonderful staff. Great location. Excellent food at Bocadillos.
Review 111:Wonderful staff. Friendly atmosphere. Tranquil and relaxing. Near to center. Lovely all around.
Review 112:no free parking
Review 113:great staff excellent location
Review 114:Room too dark.
Review 115:The common areas, the swimming pool, the little balcony, the terrace.
Review 116:Location and quaintness.
Review 117:nothing
