Reviews for Cinnamon Lodge Habarana
Review 1:Bathroom should be better for a 5 star hotel, bit of smell in the bedroom.
Review 2:Very nice property, nice space and beautiful swimming pool area. Perfect plan for a couple of nights to visit the ancient cities in the area.
Review 3:Room smelled slightly stuffy - may be because of dampness by rain. No Bath tub. Tennis court need maintenance.
Review 4:The location, staff, food, swimming pool, the butterfly garden.
Review 5:The air conditioner leaked in our room. As it was placed directly above the bathroom door it was a big slip hazard. I also didn't like that the door to the bathroom could not be opened while someone was standing at the sink.
Review 6:Loved all of the wildlife. During our stay we saw troops of monkeys, turtles, a large lizard, two different types of squirrels, geckos, many countless varieties of birds.
Review 7:On a rainy day the inner roads were wet with poorly levelled surfaces. Equipment and furniture are getting old and out of date.
Review 8:1. Food 2. Ambiance 3. Set up
Review 9:Bathroom door was annoyingly getting stuck open in our room. For close to $300 a night, someone should've fixed it :)
Review 10:Nice location, great facilities, good buffet, good property, and staff.
Review 11:We arrived in our own car in heavy rain. As there was no valet parking, I had to park the car in the open-to-sky car park and walk back to the lobby in the rain. There was no umbrella provided. Then we i.e my wife and to children had to walk in the dark and in the rain looking for our room/house. There was no assistance or umbrellas provided. We had asked around for the house number. Finally someone came to our help but by that time we had already reached our house. When we checked out, we bought a bottle of water which was charged SLRs. 335 which was exorbitantly high in any standards!. We bought the same bottle of water outside the hotel for SLRs.65!
Review 12:The location and the overall ambience combined with the way the chalets/houses were built. The nearby lake added serenity and peace to the already picturesque view of the surrounding area!
Review 13:One of the staff during breakfast , i think the manager, told me off when i was leaving and took a few pastries to eat in car as i was in a rush and was traveling. He came to me at buffet and again at table treating me like a baby while i paid an expensive amount for our 2 night stay and there was no need for his rude comments on January 4 2016
Review 14:Unfortunately the lake was dry when we visited so the site itself was not at its best. The rooms look lovely, colonial and colourful on the website for the hotel but in reality are drab and musty.
Review 15:We were welcomed to the hotel in a relaxed manor, with refreshments provided free prior to booking in. The restaurant and pool area were lovely. The layout of the site is very nice and peaceful. The buffet supper provided the best food we ate in Sri Lanka on our ten day tour. This hotel is relaxing and well situated for visiting nearby cultural spots.
Review 16:We were not full board and found that the alternative dining facilities were poor. We waited for nearly an hour for a meal in their only other restaurant only to be told that it was taking so long because the (shared) kitchen was very busy!
Review 17:Great feeling of being in the heart of Mother Nature, but living in relative luxury at the same time.
Review 18:Buffet big and noisy felt a bit frantic and impersonable. We ate a la carte where the atmosphere was tranquil and relaxing.
Review 19:Pool area with palm trees was very relaxing. Lovely big room, clean and stylish. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 20:Room was a bit far away from the main area of the hotel and the room A/C was bit noisy but managed it somehow.
Review 21:The atmosphere and privacy together with the natural surroundings was great. Being vegetarians we had a very good choice.
Review 22:My veranda was very dirty, no chairs to sit outside.
Review 23:It is a great hotel, but the price is too high...I was lucky and found a good deal on the internet for one of the best rooms - approx. 50% off. If I had to pay full/standard price I would have been disappointed.
Review 24:-lots of instincts which is very natural there because of the area itself ,so green area with amazing view .i don't think it's the hotel's mistake :)
Review 25:-Best staff ever .very friendly and very helpful . -I do recommend this hotel .
Review 26:Over priced. Wet and no way to get to central point when raining, no umbrellas were found in room. Walking paths flooded, when complained the staff, said they waited for this rain to find arias of flooding, hence find staff dishonest to guests. Bills were inaccurate to our disadvantage and had to inform several time before being rectified. The veranda sitting aria gets wet in rain, pool aria not properly lit up in the night when raining one could easily fall into pool. Slow wifi in the room. Bugs in the room. Monkey poop on the pathways.
Review 27:big rooms, large compound
Review 28:Words cannot express the moments of happiness that we enjoyed there at the lodge. Miss Chandimali Keragala, who was at the reception on our arrival, you will always be remembered, appreciated and blessed in such a nice way because you gave us a tremendous support and assistance to make our first anniversary celebration much memorable. Therefore, this is to convey our heartfelt thanks to you Chandimali, for enriching our happiness with astonishing arrangements and giving us more lasting memories.
Review 29:The triple room consists of a twin or double bed and the third bed is a child's size metal camp bed. This was not included in the description while booking the room.
Review 30:The location and atmosphere of the resort and helpfulness of the staff are all exceptional. Located next to a lake with lots of wildlife it is so peaceful, but if you want to sightsee, in a short time you can get to all the interesting parts of the cultural triangle. The rooms are superb, and as for the staff, really, nothing is too much trouble.
Review 31:hard water makes hair very stiff after washing; nothing to see outside the resort; under-stuff, pushing my own luggage to room
Review 32:big room, nature and quiet
Review 33:We had to wait a long time to place our orders for dinner because we went with the Ala carte menu rather than the dinner buffet. The staff concerned were not around as they went somewhere else for about 15 minutes after giving us the menu.
Review 34:Facilities were great, location was excellent and the breakfast buffet was really good. Loved walking around the hotel site because the hotel was situated in the midst of nature... we got to see some monkeys and squirrels stealing sugar! Was very interesting!
Review 35:We enquired about booking a national park safari through the hotel and it was double the price of the tour we eventually did which we organised outside of the hotel. Not sure how the hotel option would have offered so much more!
Review 36:The animals inside the grounds were fun including big lizards and monkeys. Very quiet, calm and peaceful place. Pool was really nice and food was good.
Review 37:The bill came to USD 214 and I paid USD 220 in cash and asked the balance either in USD or local currency. The accountant said that I should pay the exact amount in USD if not they would convert the $220 to LKR at their buying rate and calculate the $214 to LKR at their selling rate so that I am fleeced on both conversions. I left the USD 220 given as deposit with them and do whatever they wanted to do. I had requested that they return the balance of USD 6 either in $ or LKR at their exchange rate. I have been booking through your sight for many many years and have never experienced such absurd contentions from hotel staff.
Review 38:Clean, comfortable rooms. Comfy bed with good linen and excellent pillows. Staff very helpful and friendly in all areas of the hotel. Pool was incredible - large and clean. Nice pool loungers with comfortable cushions and big pool towels always available. Food choices were good and all meals that we had were very good. There was a buffet, an a la carte, and bar area for restaurant choices. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend this hotel to others, especially if you want classy at a reasonable price.
Review 39:No guide to loacte the rooms Swimming pool was located near the pool which is good, but casual clothing were not allowed in the restaurant. After a bath we had to change clothing. You could have atleast allowed a towel and t.shirt at the resturant.
Review 40:Location/Rooms were good.
Review 41:As we booked in we found the guy on the front desk, rude, and not very helpful at all. It spoiled the first impression of the hotel. Think he should be given a PR lesson!!
Review 42:everything the meals and breakfast were very good.
Review 43:It's a big resort and full of foreigners, which isn't really my ideal type of place, but it was nice for a little bit of luxury mid-way through our trip. Shower didn't drain properly. Don't book your Sirigiya trip / safaris through the hotel - hugely over-priced!
Review 44:Spacious, comfortable rooms and excellent staff.
Review 45:Food was extremely expensive, only offered Dinner buffet at 3800 Rupees each, no other option was offered so we ate at pool bar mainly which was good value and tasty. Breakfast buffet was also extremely expensive if not included in your package, 3800 rupees for two.
Review 46:Loved the pool, nature and wildlife surrounding the hotel, very relaxing and staff extremely friendly. All the food is organic and most of it is grown on site.
Review 47:The shower in the room was a bit blocked, but that was the only problem we encountered.
Review 48:Amazing facilities and location, with a beautiful pool and wonderful food options. Loved this hotel - a tarzan-luxury feel in the heart of nature.
Review 49:Food (evening buffet) was very good and with wide choice, however, overpriced
Review 50:Great resort in beautiful setting, large rooms, nice pool, very good value for money (as we got a very good deal via this website)
Review 51:It's very minor but the music at dinner was woeful!
Review 52:The cinnamon lodge was a real treat on our holiday and we throughly enjoyed our stay. A lovely welcome after a long drive from Colombo with hot towel and fresh juice. The room was comfortable, spotless, spacious and elegantly furnished. There is a lovely pool which my 2 year old loved. The grounds are teeming with wildlife and tropical plants. The buffet breakfast and dinner are pretty special.
Review 53:Nothing
Review 54:Almost perfect and nothing to complain as its a property we have been before and keep returning. This time it was even sweeter with the Genius discount :-)
Review 55:Watch out for the taxes and service charge that get added to everything, from a bottle of water to the full evening buffet! You therefore always end up paying about a third more. The check in process is unnecessarily laborious and not in line with the otherwise excellent service. Don't use their travel desk for safari arrangements. You can get a good jeep and driver at the gates of the lodge for half the price!
Review 56:The setting among trees and a tank is gorgeous. The pool is fab and the rooms are very comfortable. The food on the buffets is excellent, but at 2,900 rupees for dinner and 1,900 for breakfast feels nontheless overpriced when compared with other Sri Lankan breakfasts.
Review 57:The property requires an upgrade. The toilets are old and the room looks aged. Staff needs to be more service oriented. We often found that any request made to a waiter at meal times was passed onto another and sometimes to a third person!
Review 58:Location and setting
Review 59:If there had been an overhead fan in the bedroom we could have turned off the AC.
Review 60:Great location near three of the best sights in Sri Lanka, Polonnarewa, Sigeriya and the Minneriya Wildlife Sanctuary. Architecure reflects that of the ancient city, very comfortable rooms in separate 2 room buildings. Great buffets at breakfast and dinner and very kind, cheerful staff.
Review 61:Massive cockroach in bedroom at arrival. The room was not very clean either. Received new room, but without sincere apology. Only at checkout we were told it was an upgrade we received and apologies then after complaint. Could have been handled much better at the time.
Review 62:Style of accommodation, spacious room, comfortable bed. Excellent a la carte restaurant. Location for sightseeing.
Review 63:Food is alright but not giving the value for the money spent
Review 64:The atmosphere around the whole facility feels fresh and energising. The staff is friendly and provide a good service. Rooms are good and kept clean.
Review 65:Food was overpriced, breakfast was expensive. Encourage us to eat away from the hotel.
Review 66:Beautiful setting with lovely grounds Very large and comfortable room Friendly welcome by the staff
Review 67:Nothing, it felt Ike paradise.
Review 68:Amazing wildlife on hotel grounds. We also liked the late check-out time which gave us more time to enjoy the pool. Amazing breakfast.
Review 69:We unfortunately had a bad experience with one of the giant squirrels that are roaming in the compound. One of them managed to bite our 12 yr old 's finger .. We also saw some Monkeys come in to the restaurant and steal some bread rolls ... While it's fun for some of the tourists to witness something unusual like this ,monkeys carry rabies and should not be free to come indoors ...
Review 70:We loved every aspect of this hotel including chatting with the hotel staff .. They are friendly and helpful.
Review 71:If you didn't want the buffet dinner in the evening there was only a small choice of food on the menu from the bar. Often what you wanted on the menu wasn't available.
Review 72:The hotel is set amongst groves of trees with a bridge over a small lake that takes you to the dining area and pool. It was lovely to cool of in the pool after a morning of sight seeing.
Review 73:Evening buffet was extremely expensive as we were only able to book on BB basis only. Rooms are in need of upgrade. Toilets had a slight drainage smell but clean overall.
Review 74:Lovely location and very relaxing. Good service in the restaurants. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 75:Not really.
Review 76:This is an outstanding option for families with children with large compound, good-sized swimming pool, excellent choice of foods and tastefully fit-out and well-maintained rooms.
Review 77:Roofs in appalling state of repair (40% of slates loose and regularly falling off in the slightest breeze). Service in bar slow to non-existant.
Review 78:Excellently located for the Cultural Triangle/Sigiriya. Large, nicely furnished rooms, surrounded by mature gardens with a large river-fed pond. Lots of wildlife, including elephants visible on the nearby (dried-up) tank. Brilliant service from the guy who looked after our rooms (139 and 140). Lovely pool, excellent buffet breakfast and dinner.
Review 79:Rooms badly in need of upgrade. General lack of attention to cleaning rooms. Service good in restaurant but terrible in bar and around the pool. Has great potential to return to its best!
Review 80:Good proximity to all surrounding sights, privacy of the residential units. Food overall was great!
Review 81:The only thing we didn't like was the price of the morning and evening buffets. We did not have breakfast or half board included in our package and meals were quite expensive. That said, their food was very good but quite expensive for our family.
Review 82:This hotel seems perfect for its setting. It's been so beautifully groomed with trees, pond and jungle setting. The monkeys add a whole lot of charm. Our family loved the beautiful pool with the excellent poolside service.
Review 83:I do have a couple of complaints, although I have to say that they wouldn't deter me from staying here again in the future. 1) Despite emailing the resort a week prior to our stay to ensure that we would pay for only our room when we checked out (as we had booked 2 nights for our friends as well), payment was taken even before we had checked out. This could have created a major problem, and while they did offer to try and cancel it before it was taken out, it shouldn't have happened in the first place. We booked via Booking.com and their policy is to take payment upon check out. 2) the resort was going to be 'dry' for 7 days from our 2nd day there, which we have the utmost respect for, but some kind of prior warning would have been appreciated. We don't go away specifically to drink alcohol - far from it - but when relaxing we do enjoy a drink or two. The staff were able to arrange some drinks via the minibar, but I did miss my cocktails! 3) the resort manager assured me that none of their establishments promote or endorse elephant rides, and yet they are clearly being advertised within the leaflets distributed throughout the hotel. Elephant rides have no place in a modern, civilised society (as you may well know if you've seen how these animals are cruelly tamed and tortured for the processes of keeping us humans entertained) and I was extremely disappointed to see them being suggested as part of an itinerary. While the hotel themselves are not providing the rides, advertising them as being available is as good as promoting - and therefore endorsing - them in my view.
Review 84:This resort is quite simply stunning, the rooms/lodges are beautifully presented, the grounds are immaculate and full of wildlife, the restaurants and bars are welcoming with great food, and the pool is wonderful. Staff are immaculately turned out and always ready with a smile, I couldn't really fault it.
Review 85:Location was perfect for travelling to sigiriya, dambulla etc. We even got to see elephants just driving down the road. Loved all the wildlife around the property. Food was amazing. If you can try the a la carte restaurant please do! Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 86:The room was musty, mouldy, dark, in need of a good spruce-up. Inattentive service. Too many monkeys everywhere, beware of them, they will try to snatch your belongings! I saw little monkeys playing in the kids' swimming pool, although cute it is not hygienic and the staff doesn't chase them away.
Review 87:The hotel grounds are breathtaking
Review 88:The hotel has a really spicy smell which is quite nice and distinctive but a bit overpowering
Review 89:Lovely colonial style with spacious and comfortable rooms Beautiful extensive grounds like a wildlife park in itself - lots of viewing platforms to watch the many birds on the lake - nature trails, organic garden, monkeys playing - lovely to walk around Very nice kind and sensible staff making good helpful suggestions for getting around We had a great time here and would definitely recommend
Review 90:Food was expensive as was the travel centre and with very poor service. Lots of bugs but somewhat expected based on the location.
Review 91:Great staff and private cozy bungalos.
Review 92:Staff were very friendly, rooms very spacious with all mod-cons. Money changing facility and good food and drink options. Couldn't ask for more from our stay.
Review 93:We weren't so keen on the school dining hall feel of the restaurant. The hotel obviously attracts huge tour groups which affects the atmosphere. There are no interconnecting rooms so families have to put up with 2 separate rooms. Beware asking for anything on your booking form in advance - our request for an extra bed was completely ignored and our bill was wrong when we checked out. Very poor communication skills from the reception staff. The Lotus is restaurant is dreadful - avoid at all costs and stick to Sri Lankan food.
Review 94:The Sri Lankan dishes were superb, as were the puddings - wonderful room dedicated to sweet things. Great air con and lovely bedrooms. Enormous pool.
Review 95:A brilliant hotel, rooms were nice, pool was fantastic, dinner was great, their was lots of wonderful animal to see in the grounds including birds, monkeys, turtles, fish, squirrels, butterflys. It is a fantastic location for travelling around the north central areas, conveniently located for dambulla, sigiriya, anuradhpura, pollonuwara, minneriya national park etc...
Review 96:Check in and checkout were both slow. They seemed to struggle to find my booking in the first place and then at checkout tried to charge double. It took sometime to sort and even then demanded contact details from our driver. The main criticism though is we found it very expensive both for food and drinks.
Review 97:Rooms were clean and tidy. The grounds were lovely and great for nature walks to spot various animals. The food was generally good both at breakfast and buffet evening meal. The staff were always friendly and helpful although I did always get a sense it was tip based. Location is good for nearby attractions. Nice pool area.
Review 98:As well as the excellent hotel facilities (pool, restaurant) the grounds were superb for bird watching, birds seen ranging from tiny sunbirds to kingfishers to eagles. The butterfly garden was also packed with species though we were getting towards the end of the season.
Review 99:the way that hotel is , room is big and nice , staff are really friendly , and good cuisine , nice breakfast and dinner in the hotel , close to Sigiria and national park
Review 100:The impression of the bathroom was a little bit less. It was a nice, spacious bathroom but the only minus was that the taps were not cleaned very well (a lot of limescale on taps and glass).
Review 101:It's located in a beautiful setting! There are a lot of animals you can see from the grounds. The hotel is very clean, rooms are spacious, good airconditiong, minibar, the meals are very good quality and the bar and a la carte restaurant are top!
Review 102:The bed was a bit hard.
Review 103:We stayed here after visiting sigiriya rock. It is a pefectly central location to reach sigiriya, polonaruwa, the elephant safaris and dambulla. You can swim under the stars in their amazing pool and you're spoilt for choice at mealtimes!
Review 104:The beds were slightly hard and room rate quite expensive but we found this in all hotels in Sri lanka.
Review 105:This was one of my favourite hotels in a great location to explore the cultural triangle. We had a comfortable room with balconies looking out over the grounds and lake. We felt in the heart of Sri Lanka surrounded by country and wildlife. The hotel pool was large, clean and a lovely place to rest after busy sightseeing. It was also a pleasure to hear the monkeys jumping from tree to tree above our heads! Service and food selection (evening and breakfast buffets) was also very good.
Review 106:Food in a la carte Lotus restaurant was awful. Tinned asparagus, hollandaise that was a lump of cold butter, staff poor in this restaurant, great everywhere else.
Review 107:Staff very helpful and friendly, lovely tranquil and peaceful place.
Review 108:The bedrooms an d bathrooms are looking tired and could be updated.
Review 109:Great hotel, with fantastic swimming pool, staff extremely helpful and friendly. Great location for travelling around the cultural area.
Review 110:Some offered services like bicycle rental not available.
Review 111:Very nice combination of nature and comfortable accommodation. Very nice Spa with professional services
Review 112:Receptionists not very cheerfull Airco too loud Curtains less wide than The windows Electricity of the lights not properly working Reaction time reception too slow (bagage took hours, long waiting in the dark when central lightswitch failed) Far too expensive for the offering
Review 113:Location Room Swimming pool Food
Review 114:The room was not clean and poorly maintained. WiFi was slow and sometimes bad. mosquito is a real problem there.
Review 115:I stayed there for 2 nights with my family. it is a very nice hotel for relaxation. The staff were excellent and very helpful. breakfast and dinner were very good with many choices.
Review 116:-Room for high rated hotel was below average -Responsiveness of house keeping was poor -The details for dialing in room services were in accurate
Review 117:-Superb Food, the lay was outstanding, so was the Tate and quality. -Restaurant staff was very courteous and attentive. -Beautiful location
Review 118:Food options are very less.
Review 119:We Were a group of 6 adults and 5 children. WE had a great time. Breakfast options are plenty. Dinner buffet is so-so as the options are less. The property itself is very beautiful with a nice lake and natural vegetation and animals to keep the children busy. All the tourist sights are also close by.
Review 120:- Buffet dinner is the only real option
Review 121:- Perfect location for cultural triangle (Sigiriya and Dambulla can by reached by tuk tuk, Polanuwara and Anaradaphura by local bus outside the resort) - Train station to Colombo, Baticola, Trincomalee (switch trains at Galoya junction!) just outside the village
Review 122:Monkies...huge bunch of monkies play outside spreading their done everywhere. Smelly.
Review 123:Location. Excellent. Next to a lake with large gardens. Also received a very good package.
Review 124:We were in the very back corner of the resort. Some people might be put off by the hike back and forth, but on the other hand it was quiet with a beautiful garden.
Review 125:This resort is great. From the get go, it was excellent. The staff are fantastic. The wildlife abounds - we even had a Chameleon in our room! The pool is good, the food is great, the beer is cold! Lots to do in the area.
Review 126:bed sheets were not soft enough
Review 127:amazing lake by the hotel, featuring tree houses & benches amazing spa great staff huge pool breakfast was great bar food was average
Review 128:Beautiful setting: in the forest on the shores of the lake. Heaven for birdwatching and just sitting and contemplating beauty and serenity around you. Very spacious and well appointed rooms, tastefully furnished with huge balconies to sit and enjoy and lush greenery and birdsongs. Friendly and prefessional staff. Good food and a great swimming pool!
Review 129:Would be nice if they had a fitness center.
Review 130:My sister recommended this hotel. We were 5 of us with a toddler and we really enjoyed this place. Food was delicious and the staff went out of their way to help. We also had a special bbq dinner in the "island" and loved the ambiance.
Review 131:Our room was large and nicely decorated but a bit past its best and could be cleaner. Lots of pesky flies when we were there in September! Despite this we did love the place and would recommend it.
Review 132:The hotel grounds are beautiful and the staff so helpful. We loved the large swimming pool and it was great to see so much wildlife in the grounds. There's not much to do in Habarana itself but it's a convenient location for sights in the Cultural Triangle.
Review 133:Not very clean. Very old hotel and the beds are old too. There is only one restaurant other the main one and it is awful.
Review 134:The breakfast was good and the price was cheap
Review 135:Rooms are a little tired and could use a spring clean in places, some staff seemed very tip focussed. A bit pricey considering you really have to drink and eat at the hotel
Review 136:Great pool, best buffet in Sri Lanka if not the world, relaxing and beautiful
Review 137:Food in buffet was not great! 3 out of 4 of us were really ill for 24 hours!Even The Lotus food left a lot to be desired! Menu read well but food was not as described. The hotel really need to work on the standard of their food & then they will be really a great place to stay.
Review 138:Location,pool,peace that pervaded , the spa, the staff, all really splendid! You could not fault the above.
