Reviews for SKYCITY Grand Hotel Auckland

Review 1:On checking out we were waiting for awhile and staff serving did not check to see who had been waiting longest and just served whoever decided to stand at the front of the counter, whereas we were being polite and stood back waiting our turn.

Review 2:Location, grandeur of the hotel. What wasn't to like, other than wished we stayed longer.

Review 3:We stayed in this property twice over a 1 week period. Each time we checked out, we called down to concierge for help with our bags and both times, our request was not passed on. We ahead to make a trip to the bell hops ourselves after waiting 15-20 min

Review 4:Great location. Very nice room.

Review 5:Parking was a whopping $20!

Review 6:Location was superb. The front desk lady was extremely helpful & quickly sorted out my request for halal food joints in the vicinity, nearest supermarkets etc. She was very warm & very welcoming, a much welcome relief after a long drive from the Bay iof Islands!

Review 7:The lobby lounge restaurant and bar on our second night in the Sky City Grand.... after coming in from Bogata (forgive any spelling mistake) we decided to stop and have a nightcap at around 11pm.. but the staff were a bit too busy to acknowledge us to serve...despite waiting and trying to engage a bit of eye contact... it's ok... we left... it didn't spoil the night.

Review 8:Absolutely superb start to our honeymoon! A lovely complimentary bottle of champagne in our room. A fabulous dinner at the Sugar Club on our wedding night. WOW! truly awesome, we were treated like royalty & can't praise the staff & chefs highly enough... it doesn't get much better than that.

Review 9:That we didn't get to stay longer!

Review 10:Loved the lap pool, spa and sauna facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was immaculately clean.

Review 11:Beautiful hotel, amazing service. Perfect room with a stunning view.Had a beautiful dinner at the gusto , delicious good and wonderful staff. Would definately recommend.

Review 12:I asked for a room with a view and it was a 50th birthday so thought it would be entertained. We were told we had been upgraded to a recently refurbished room, well I thought that was what a was paying for! We had family staying at the sky city side of the hotel, and apart from being 'recently' refurbished there wasn't much difference. Also, the coffee capsules didn't have a good coffee taste, should upgrade to nespresso.

Review 13:Check in was easy.

Review 14:I took my grand daughters aged 7 and 10. While I have stayed several times the girls felt like they belonged. The staff at the hotel and fed st deli were great. The facilities and location are perfect. Easy to get to places.

Review 15:Only 1 negative asked for a jug of iced water to the room but could not . This would not happen in a irish hotel.to have a 5 star hotel unable to supply a pint of iced water at night going to bed ridiculous

Review 16:Great room great bed and bathroom. Great setting

Review 17:Had to wait 30 minutes at reception to check in. Only 3 people there and they had 3 members of staff on. The reception is sooo slow and unwelcoming. Wanted passports and a $200 bond. Room was good, but no complementary biscuits or any special touches. Swimming pool was freezing, spa pool luke warm. Check out was a nightmare, made us wait 30 minutes with 2 screaming kids whilest they checked the minibar to make sure nothing had been taken because it's a manual system and not electronic.

Review 18:Too expensive to eat in the hotel with young children, would have liked a cheaper breakfast option in the hotel.

Review 19:The location was perfect for what we wanted to do. Staff were very pleasant and the hotel felt very spacious.

Review 20:Absolutely loved our stay at Skycity Grand Hotel. Cannot faulty anything - staff were great, rooms were lovely and Auckland is beautiful. Would definitely, definitely stay there again.

Review 21:Felt the price was quite high for the room we were put in. Had stayed there previously and had a much nicer room but I guess that's the luck of the draw.

Review 22:Fairly nice room, comfy bed.

Review 23:Location is central however as a tourist, I would have preferred something a little closer to the harbor. That said, it is only a 10 minute walk, but there is road construction right near the hotel.

Review 24:We stayed at both the Sky City and the Sky City Grand. I would recommend the Grand over the regular Sky City if the price is equal. The rooms are nicer, they are not under construction and it has an overall better feel.

Review 25:Didn't receive wake up call as requested. Luckily we had our own alarm clock set. Staff at the restaurants in the hotel seemed to be a little bit arrogant.

Review 26:Great location in the heart of Auckland with the Skytower nearby and the whole Skycity complex right around the corner. Great food at Masu (Japanese restaurant next to hotel; comment about arrogant staff is not related to this restaurant but the two restaurants right inside the hotel). Fantastic outside sitting area on the 7th floor with direct view of the Skytower and those folks that come down the tower via the "Skyjump".

Review 27:Room seemed to have a set air conditioner temperature and fan speed, which could not be altered. There was minimal toilet paper in the room on this occasion and no extra roll could be found.

Review 28:Fantastic location in the heart of Auckland. Internet access was excellent and also complimentary. Room was spacious and comfortable. Bathroom was large and included both separate shower and bath. The hotel lobby/bar area is stylish.

Review 29:Smaller room and in room service food was smaller portion than last time - a change from stay 3 months ago.

Review 30:Facilities nice and breakfast at Gustos superb

Review 31:The only down fall was the check out system when we went to leave it was down and we weren't able to check out as per normal and had to wait awhile.

Review 32:Being a newly wed couple it was the location for us that was the best as well as the staff there very friendly and helpful.

Review 33:Nothing.

Review 34:Location was excellent - right by the Tower and Casino. It was a short walk down to the harbour and ferries. Staff were helpful and the transfer from taxi to room was very efficient. Room was well-equipped and modern. Very comfortable bed and quiet room (we were on 21st floor).

Review 35:It took 3 phone calls to reception to have the sound working on the television in one of our rooms (stayed as family / booked 3 rooms).

Review 36:Fab location, delicious breakfast with a variety to choose from. Rooms were with harbor view overlooking Sky City tower which was beautifully lit at night.

Review 37:Nothing to report here.

Review 38:The little guy with the cap looking after the valet parking was fantastic nothing was too much for him, this was our first contact with your hotel and this guy gave us a really nice welcome. We were only staying one night next time we'll stay longer. Really enjoyed it.

Review 39:Congestion with the lifts at checkout time on Monday 4th January and 1 of the 3 lifts seemed to be locked off which didn't help.

Review 40:Lovely room, efficient staff.

Review 41:Some of the Skycity Grand restaurants weren't easily signed - The Gusto menu was out the front of Masu and the Masu menu was on the other side. Of the other Skycity restaurants we dined at (Fed, Rebo & Fortuna) Fortuna was the only one to offer charge back to the room. Also we didn't have a clean our room sign and found on the first morning that our room hadn't been cleaned. The person at the desk suggested it was our error by leaving the do not disturb sign on (which we hadn't) rather than rectifying the situation first. However these are minor problems as we had a great stay overall

Review 42:Location was an easy walk to casino, good restaurants and Marina. Room was very nice - particularly the bathroom. Sky channel was also a bonus.

Review 43:Rooms too small for the price and photos on booking website. Pool was not up to hotel's standards.

Review 44:Restaurants were absolutely incredible. Location is terrific.

Review 45:While everyone is very nice and helpful, we found some results lacking: Needing a pharmacy, or even a store with a decent over the counter selection at 9:30 in the eve was met with how that was not available for a long distance. Turns out while walking the main street to find something, 2 blocks away there is a full pharmacy open till Midnight 7 days a week. Passed others similar during our stay. zhotel service should know this. The town - surprisingly - becomes very hard to find a restaurant for a snack and a drink after 10:00 (say something like an Irish pub, etc). Again the best the concierage did was suggest Denny's. (True, room service is available - but not the experience we wanted, and VERY pricey). In fact, directly across from the hotel, in the same complex, virtually visible from it...there is a place with a fine menu of hamburgers and more and full bar OPEN 24/7. Finally, looking to book a tour (which the desk had little insight on other than reading the paragraph n the brochure), they tried but on the busy period we were there, were told no more reservations were available. My trying using the internet in the business center found one - with a little search - and amazingly: it was the same Grey Line tour they couldn't book! Our request for more towels was never acted on. Pool/spa gym area functional, not very nice, upscale, etc. In a town full of hotels with nice location and services, this one is very pricey for not much, if any difference.

Review 46:The place is a city hotel, connected with the downtown casino and as any hotel in the city, walking distances to everything there. It is a nice hotel, but not exceptionally elegant or even special in any way. Airport shuttle service is great.

Review 47:The hotel is in a great location. The hotel staff is extremely helpful and courteous. Our suite was recently renovated and the hotel facilities are well maintained. You can walk to the harbor, war memorial and lots of restaurants and shops from the hotel. It is only two blocks from Queen Street. This is a wonderful hotel.

Review 48:Pillows and lack of noise proofing, avoid adjoining rooms and being near the lifts.staff did allow us to move though the next room wasn't as posh.

Review 49:Foyer and restaurants

Review 50:Centrally positioned luxury hotel in the middle of Auckland with excellent, friendly staff and good facilities. Short walk to harbour to catch ferries to outlying locations and islands and extremely reasonable parking costs for a large city, just across the road at the Casino.

Review 51:Nothing, this hotel stay was exceptional.

Review 52:I especially appreciated the little card in my room welcoming me back together with the bottle of bubbles & house made chocolates - really appreciated.

Review 53:Was a little bit dusty esp on the glass shelves and coffee machine. The big shower head was very very dusty and had spots all over it from soap.the shower glass wasn't very clean at all. Under the bed had bottle caps m n ms and half a biscuit...but if I wasn't a motel cleaner I prob wouldn't of noticed..was very impressed with what was supplied in the room..altho I don't know what was on the vanity set as the box was empty..we left 2 ice packs in the freezer but was never contacted..um..bed was the best bed I've ever slept on! I'm happy to come back still

Review 54:Just an overall fancy place

Review 55:Very noisy due to the construction. Had breakfast outside the cafe Rebo and it was extremely noisy and dusty. We weren't allowed inside the cafe due to the construction work.

Review 56:Clean and very comfortable inside room. Good location too.

Review 57:Furniture is a little old.

Review 58:lt is convenient location for shopping and entertainment. It has nice view if your room in the high floor. There is a good restaurant in the 1st floor.

Review 59:The hotel just had the nicest feel. The room was tidy, clean, everything worked and the hallways were especially quite, allowing us to have a great nights sleep in a lovely king-size bed. We were staying as we missed our flight to our xmas holiday destination due to passport issues and the hotel was very accommodating while we tried to organise a replacement passport, letting us have an extendable late check out with no fuss. Staying in the Grand hotel after our dramas was very refreshing and comforting. Thanks. Great Hotel! :-)

Review 60:quite high daily rates, average spa/Sauna facilities

Review 61:fab location, well-tuned staff, fantastic view from the Harbour facing rooms, clean and modern, exceptionally comfortable beds

Review 62:My partner and I stayed 2 nights and on the first night the staff member only charged for one and I had asked "Is that all? Are you sure?" She said yes only to find out when e checked out we owed them money. After a big anniversary weekend we were a bit disappointed with that as we did clarify with the first staff member. However I stay at the grand regularly and all the other times have been fabulous.

Review 63:The friendliness of staff and that our room was catered to even though we did not ask :) The spa and pool were amazing.

Review 64:Parking on site is charged $20 every time you exit the car park. If you leave your car there you only get charged once, no matter how many days you stay. Doesn't make sense

Review 65:Central location. Easy Walk to ferries. Vibrant eating areas close by. Clean comfortable room.

Review 66:A real let down the pool was closed for so many days. We had 5 days there and the pool was out of order every day. The children were really disappointed.

Review 67:Comfortable beds, excellent location, courteous and helpful staff. Delicious breakfasts. Adjoining rooms were perfect for the family. It was quiet.

Review 68:Unfortunately the pool, sauna and spa were closed during my stay. This was particularly unfortunate as I had booked the weekend as a spa weekend (I had booked into easy day spa following what would have been my second night) after a fortnight on a busy course in Auckland before my return home. I only booked this hotel a few days before and was not informed of this, nor was I told when I popped in the day before to arrange dropping bags off early or infact again when I checked in. I only found out once I was in my room and read a letter I had been left. This made it very difficult for me to requests refund for the first night as I was already in the room. When I went back down stairs to ask about this I was told it had been known about for 3 weeks!!! The initial member of staff I spoke to was very unhelpful but the duty manager was more helpful and in the end I just stayed for the one night at discounted rate and got a refund for my second night. Some people may not be overly worried about the pool facilities but this was one main factor I had in choosing this hotel. I understand maintenance needs to be done but it should be highlighted when facilities are not available when booking or as soon as possible after particularly in a place that is fairly pricey.

Review 69:Modern hotel with access to a lot of bars and restaurants. Comfortable spacious room.

Review 70:Would have been good to have option of breakfast with the booking. Couldn't get into the restaurants wanted. Felt in room menu could be more extensive.

Review 71:Comfortable, good outlook.

Review 72:Valet parking difficult as Federal St closed. Chaotic check in. Woken 9am Sunday morning by a phone call asking why we hadn't arrived! Valet parking attendant on desk Sunday morning rude. Room rate excessive!

Review 73:Location

Review 74:Perfect location for out of town tourists. Walking distance to shopping and harbour ,Ferries to outer islands. Availability of the greatest view of Auckland from the Orbit.

Review 75:The bed was so so comfortable , we had great sleeps, the place was so quiet! The room was well appointed, plenty of space and the sofa comfy!! Polite courteous staff, the macaroons a hit! An enjoyable time!

Review 76:It was quite expensive in comparison to other hotels of a similar standard, but I do except this was a busy weekend in Auckland. For the price though I would have expected breakfast to be included.

Review 77:Great location, convenient for shops and not too far a walk for vectra arena. Lovely modern decor and the Nespresso machine in the room was also a nice touch.

Review 78:For the price, the room it was underwhelming. Especially as we chose the between sky city and the "grand". Size and view need to reflect the price especially since there are plenty of other hotels in the same zone with half the price.

Review 79:Nobody told us how to use the elevator, so we stayed on the same floor for quite a while before another traveller entered our elevator and used her card

Review 80:The view was lovely and it was in the best location

Review 81:Endless choice of pillows, but couldn't Seem to get a simple feather pillow!

Review 82:Our experience was positive. Great staff, upgraded to refurbished rooms, and really love the restaurants!

Review 83:Sadly was nit impressed with the in room dining the chips were well over cooked couldn't really eat them and burger and club sandwich was a little dry, very disappointing as time before I stayed and got room service the chocolate molten pudding was overcooked and dry,so sadly not keen on trying room service again as it's not cheap

Review 84:Love the location and layout of hotel staff are very friendly and rooms are very nice

Review 85:Tea bags were not of a good standard Pretty "cold" reception and the room was a bit tired although very clean

Review 86:Well located but pretty average for the price. Breakfast was good but the area was pretty noisy.

Review 87:The buffet breakfast was very small and only had a limit offering. Considering the cost was $60NZD for a couple (for a hot breakfast it would have been $80NZD) it was pretty disappointing. The coffee was absolutely terrible and bitter.

Review 88:The room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 89:The hotel was not as 'grand' and luxurious as expected. The toilet paper was very poor quality and I did not like the shampoo/conditioner/body wash/lotion, it was a strange smell and left me smelling smoky, my colleague also said the same thing. They are minor issues but it's the little details that make the hotels luxurious and grand. The lighting also cut out 3 times during my 6 night stay, which isn't a huge issue except one of the times I was in the shower and it all went pitch black - I slipped and almost fell trying to get out to switch the lights back on. They are just minor concerns, no great alarming issues and overall had a great stay

Review 90:Location could not be more central. Staff were great. The menu of 8 different types of pillows to choose from was great. I stayed in the premium room and it was very spacious

Review 91:Sediment in the water when drawing a bath and decided to try room service breakfast for 2 which was a bit of let down.

Review 92:Returning to one of our favourite hotels in Auckland is always a pleasure.

Review 93:The TV remote sensor was mounted under the desk. The remote didn't seem to work until we called for one of the staff to come and he worked it out.

Review 94:Nice crisp room.

Review 95:Reception helped with our request for early check in after we had been travelling for 40 hours. We had a room on a high floor and the view was fantastic.

Review 96:We had a good room but it had two double beds. We ended up sleeping in a bed each due to their size.A superking would have fitted and would have been more comfortable.

Review 97:the location was good for us and the restaurants in the area

Review 98:No problems at all

Review 99:It was in a perfect situation, an excellent hotel. Lots of choices of places to eat in the hotel and around. Room was extremely comfortable and everything I needed.

Review 100:No where to sit-in room except bed would prefer no single bed and 2 tub/lounge chairs to sit in. Rooms that are looking into another building should b cheaper and u should be Informed.

Review 101:that we have to walk far from carpark across d road. no proper reception. not welcoming. cot did not arrive until 10pm. chips ordered seem like cooked yesterday. no milk in fridge for coffee.no proper mug for the coffee machine.tv did not work until staff fix it 2x

Review 102:the pool!

Review 103:The fact that we had to order robes and slippers when they should of been readily available upon arriving. The look of the beds upon arriving were plain and a bit of a let down considering it was the grand. The bins were too small for a family and there should be a dirty laundry bin located somewhere in the rm.Also the rm lacked wow factor. In my opinion I believe the skycity hotel rms are more inviting and just show that 5 star quality.

Review 104:The indoor pool and spa for our children. The Beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom was amazing. The airbridge made it easy getting to and from the casino.

Review 105:Room service meal is a bit expensive. I wrote need hot milk for breakfast, but when delivered, it was really cold milk.

Review 106:A very good hotel, clean and quiet. These are the things I care most when I choose hotel.

Review 107:The hotel parking wasn't explained to us or actioned correctly and we were asked for the full amount at the gate. Fortunately the car park attendant believed our situation and only charged us half the price but he said the hotel had not noted it on the ticket as they should have.

Review 108:The beds and the position!

Review 109:Dinner in the restaurant was sublime:) Reception staff were very good. The rooms were comfortable and clean but you would expect that at a 5 star hotel.

Review 110:Nothing

Review 111:We had one of the newly refurbished twin rooms on floor 19. Was lovely! The bed was so comfortable! Also what really made it special was a 'complimentary welcome back' half bottle of bubbles! Really made us feel special!

Review 112:When I asked for check in, they told me my booking has been cancelled, But I did not do that, make me so worried. Finally, they found out they made a mistake:(

Review 113:Room is tidy

Review 114:Everything was excellent: location, friendly staff, beautiful room with everything you need, good facilities, including SPA, pool, sauna and gym. We definitely liked this hotel and would recommend it to our friends.

Review 115:a few lights weren't working in the room and the wifi didn't work either

Review 116:The valet service gentlemen were amazing very welcoming and happy best part of the hotel

Review 117:Absolutely loved the birthday bubbles and chocolate on arrival of our stay. We had a fantastic time and to stay at such a wonderful hotel was just spectacular. Excellent staff.

Review 118:I wish it had a bathtub, it would've made my room PERFECT. Can't complain though, room was beautiful. Wish the room had slippers too.

Review 119:Luxurious. Very easy to find because of the Sky Tower. Great location, right in the middle of everything. The room felt special. I have stayed in many places in Auckland and it is number 1 for me in competition with SKYCITY Hotel. Maroon 5 stayed there too and we ran into them and got photo ops! The whole process of checking in and out was easy. No complaints and all the hardwork in the background like room service went totally unnoticed. This was my best weekend in Auckland.

Review 120:Fabulous views, spacious clean room, lovely bathroom with separate shower/bath. Free newspaper & wifi. There were free macaroons at reception at one stage, and free finger food at afternoon "Happy Hour". Excellent staff service.

Review 121:Restaurants and bars around and in the Sky City complex in Federal Street were buzzing - and deservedly so. The downstairs bar at the Grand with canapés in the evening excellent.

Review 122:Friendly and helpful staff. Room very clean, bed big and comfortable. It is in an excellent spot central to shops ect. The walkway to casino is fantastic. Most enjoyable stay and would recommend it to others

Review 123:Some rooms (like ours) are joint rooms, so noise from neighbours comes easily through. We had some noisy neigbhours, however front desk staff dealt very good with and are strict about noise during the night

Review 124:Good location, friendly front desk staff, good heating installation, fast wifi :)

Review 125:Would be nice to have a little extra milk in fridge for those of us who like an extra couple of cups of coffee or tea, and coffee mugs

Review 126:Very comfortable rooms, and beds, nice showers, staff are very helpful and friendly

Review 127:They charged us for local phone calls (to east day spa just downstairs in the same building) which was unexpected, and even though we were on the top floor (level 21?) could hear creaking from next door rooms/ceiling when people were walking around/from outside wind. We stayed at the sky city hotel next door the night before and the wound proofing was much better there even though that hotel is 4 star.

Review 128:The sauna, spa, pool and gym were great, location was awesome, lots of yummy eateries nearby.

Review 129:We mentioned that we will be arriving early morning but the room wasn't ready for us and we had to wait 4 hrs although we were very tired from our night flight

Review 130:The location is perfect

Review 131:The location was perfect!!! The room was ubber comfortable and the staff is always very kind. It's cool how you don't have to step outdoors to get over to SkyCity, simply walking across a skybridge.
