Reviews for City Lodge - Backpackers Accommodation

Review 1:Wifi is too expensive The design of the rooms are not convenient

Review 2:Good location, close to Queen Street. The rooms are clean and staff is very friendly. Good value for money

Review 3:Rooms a little too small.

Review 4:Lovely friendly staff. Good location. Laundry available for use. Really, everything you need for a city stay at a reasonable price.

Review 5:Had a great week at the City Lodge, so much that we actually booked up for a second week too. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The "hostel" was more like a good budget hotel than most hostels I've stayed at. Queen room was very comfy. Downstairs kitchen/lounge was spacious and convenient. Only a few minutes walk from city centre. Thanks to all staff for a very nice stay.

Review 6:It would be good to add YMCA to the name since that is what it really is and known by the locals.

Review 7:Walking distance to Queen St and Sky City. Convenience store opposite the place.

Review 8:The rooms were not very sound proof from the road and parking was unavailable the night of our stay. (We didn't know there was parking available as an option and would have booked if we had known)

Review 9:Staff were very accomodating to booking our rooms on the same floor even though we didn't all book at the same time!

Review 10:Great to be greeted with a sincere welcome. Fantastic value for money, excellent location and the best kept secret in Auckland. The kitchen facilities and communal areas were immaculately maintained and much appreciated

Review 11:no air-con only a fan so was a little hot.

Review 12:Great location, reasonably priced room, great selection of complimentary hot drinks provided, and the hostel was very quiet.

Review 13:Because Auckland can be humid this time of the year I think a small aircon in the room would be ideal

Review 14:Location to restaurants and central city was perfect for me.

Review 15:--

Review 16:very comfy small place! have everything we need, hot kettle, fridge, hair drier. And was very close to the city center. it takes about 10 min to walk to the intercity station and about 15min to the Naked bus statoin.

Review 17:nothing

Review 18:Very near the city. Have a convenient store in front of Hotel. Able to check in early which was really appreciated. Ample car park. the kitchen arrangement is good. The no smoking rule makes the hotel fresh and clean. The sky tower can be seen from my room.

Review 19:Niothing!!

Review 20:The staff was above and beyound friendly and helpful. They were so helpful with directions; printed out google mapsfor us as we were driving to Rotorua as "tourist drivers"! The accomodations were spotlessand if you wish to cook your food the common cooking area was spotless and stocked with all pots etc. City Lodge also has on site reserved parking which is a huge plus in centre city area! Highly recommend!!!

Review 21:something is not quite right with a drainage hole in the centre of the bathroom floor. slightly unpleasant smell.

Review 22:very pleasant staff. clean, simplicity of accommodation

Review 23:I found the inability to access the soap without having the shower door open a bit weird. And the tight fit for the bed so that there was no room for a bedside table a bit awkward. But the stool from the bench worked just fine thankyou. Really nothing to complain about!

Review 24:It's just perfect. Comfy bed. Quiet, but in the city. Good price. Lovely helpful people. I love staying there.

Review 25:Paid wifi, no soap in the bathroom, no breakfast (we knew this prior booking).

Review 26:We enjoyed the localization and the bed. That's what we were looking for.

Review 27:Wifi is chargeable and ridiculously expensive. Booked for single room and was given a quad room - the receptionist claimed this was an upgrade?!?!?! The room was super cram.

Review 28:Bathroom clean. Good shower.

Review 29:Only bad bit was when a cleaner tried to enter our room and we were still there, then apologised profusely, which I appreciated. Manners really do help:)

Review 30:Impressed with rooms and staff as well as lounge and kitchen areas. Good parking:)

Review 31:The particular room booked happen to overlook the entrance & face the road & all the street lights. While the noise was reasonably muffled no effort had been made to block the streetlights out. Only Venetian blinds when really the room would benefit from the blackout roller blinds plus curtains. The wifi was useless, possibly doesn't work in the room booked, they shouldn't sell it to people if it doesn't work.

Review 32:You get what you pay for.

Review 33:Slightly noisy as close to emergency services. Its a bit of a dark walk from the city to the lodge.

Review 34:Friendly staff, basic and small but clean rooms. Overall quite good and nice value for money

Review 35:Power was out when we arrived so no lift. had to walk up to room. This not their fault though and was fixed by return time.

Review 36:Good position for where we were going. Very clean with friendly staff.

Review 37:I really liked the fact that the location of my accommodation was close to everything and it wasn't too much of a walk or anything. I also like that the room was really clean and well set out, it was really comfortable and enjoyable. I also like the amount of space that there is in the room. The staff was really good and very welcoming with their big happy smiles on their face. Also really good customer service.

Review 38:Minor things: Dirty spot at the bottom of 1st and 2nd panel of folding shower door Blind that does not hold streight in place the whole time. The left part sags after some time

Review 39:Location and bus stops just outside the site Friendly staff Very Clean

Review 40:The room for two adults sharing twin was a little cramped

Review 41:A little cramped as a twin share but we managed the space. Nice to be close to the CBD and to have a leafy start to the day. Location allows a variety of 'exercise' options when expolring!

Review 42:Woken very early with bin collection outside the window. On a busy road with lots of traffic noise. No toiletries (apart from pump soap by basin) so need to bring your own. (didn't realize this though!)

Review 43:Very small but clean. Used the room from 11pm till 8am but wouldn't want to stay for more than a day due to the size. Shortish walk to Queen St but have to cross busy road and quite dark areas.

Review 44:Very warm in the rooms on the higher floors.

Review 45:The room was small but cozy with a nice TV and very comfortable bed. Nothing spectacular, but perfect for what my wife and I were looking for.

Review 46:There was a lot of noise from the road outside and also inside from other guests. There was a small gap under the door and when there were people outside the room they could be heard very clearly.

Review 47:Really friendly and helpful staff and in a very convenient location.

Review 48:The accommodation offers a no frills option if you're looking for budget accommodation in a good location. The rooms are basic but they offer everything you need. There is no air con but a fan is provided if it gets to hot. The main shops, bars are all within a 10 minute walking distance and a cab to the airport costs approx $30 dollars

Review 49:Rooms were very hot and difficult to control temperature with fans. Beds could be a little more comfortable

Review 50:Having the ability to complete washing in the evening , as we were a football team.

Review 51:confusion over on line booking and payment. They take credit card details. But then say that is not payment Because family booked hotel it caused problems on arrival as we had no cc

Review 52:central location

Review 53:It was just way too hot and stuffy in the room, I struggled to sleep. I also didn't like paying for my parking.

Review 54:I liked the location- a central but quiet street, and the affordable price.

Review 55:- Not much windows, so it was pretty warm in the room - It can be noisey

Review 56:+ Nice rooms + Nice bathrooms + Good beds + All facilities you need are there

Review 57:The beds are not the most comfortable and it's a little noisy at times but I would stay again. Wish Wifi was free but that's hard to find.

Review 58:The rooms are nice and the staff is incredibly helpful. They booked us several cabs and are always around, which is wonderful. It's also very clean and they change the linens daily.

Review 59:How there is only few parking space to book. I had to park really far and expensive, especially before 6pm. Room is so hot. For the price we pay we could have got a nicer accommodation. Overall wasn't too good of experience.

Review 60:I like how its quite clean. Communal lounge/kitchen is pretty spacey so not crowded.

Review 61:Lovely quad room. Bunks were really comfy and fully made. Nice and clean bathroom. Staff were excellent, so friendly, nothing was a bother. Offered us fans for our room, looked after our luggage after checkout, polite and knowledgeable. Would definitely stay again. Luxury backpackers!

Review 62:Incredibly uncomfortable bed, has caused a stiff neck and shoulder pain which I am still feeling today (Thur) and we checked out Sun. My partner also had a sore back as a result. Also, was unsure if cups were cleaned hygienically, or just in the bathroom sink

Review 63:Clean and tidy generally

Review 64:Nothing not to like it is a great place to stay and I will recommend it to anyone who needs to stay in Auckland.

Review 65:Staff were so friendly and helpful at all times and I felt very welcome and comfortable staying there alone. It was the first time I had ever stayed in backpackers accommodation and It was just great and surpassed my expectations in every respect.

Review 66:Shower was cold. Cramped 4-berth room - more cramped than anticipated. A little further to walk to city centre than anticipated. Odour outside lift in hallway to room... (perhaps in carpet?)

Review 67:Comfy bed & bed linen. Clean & tidy. Friendly, efficient staff. Airy, with windows to open. Cost effective, exactly as needed for short stay.

Review 68:Just a little bit stuffy/warm on the bed side of the room. Maybe a fan to help circulate air would be good.

Review 69:Very clean and quite well priced so close to town.

Review 70:Nothing. Maybe no free wifi

Review 71:Really faultless. Great friendly place to stay. Very central location. Excellent facilities. Didn't have to buy wifi so can't comment

Review 72:Mattress could need replacing soon. otherwise comfortable . Room could be slightly bigger as difficult to see TV from all the beds in the room.

Review 75:Staff extremely helpful. Excellent kichen area with facilities for everything you could thing of and a confortable recreation area. Excellent value for money with great access to everything only 3-4 minutes walk from Queen st or the sky tower in a quiet area.

Review 76:Exceptionally clean. Room was very well equipped - TV, fridge, kettle, good lighting, spare bedding. City Lodge is near the free CityLink circular bus route, so easy to get to K Road and Britomart/harbour for other transport options.
