Reviews for Shiga Kogen Hotel Shiga Sunvalley
Review 1:Lack of meal choices (I have a westernised pallet).
Review 2:I sustained a dislocated shoulder during skiing . The wife of the hotel manager was so lovely to me, she went to my room and brought my shoes down, took my boots off and put my shoes on me (it was my dominant arm) and she had organised strangers to take me to the local hospital, 40 minutes drive away. Then, once I got to the hospital, there was another man who waited for me to take me back up the mountain. Neither would take my money. The ShigaKogen Sun Valley hotel were exceptional, highly recommend. However I will never ski again!
Review 3:One of the stairwells smelled of old smoke but this did not permeate onto the corridor. We had poor snow whilst we were there and only the red slope was open so we had to take the shuttle bus which was not very frequent but was worth it to get to the higher areas with better snow cover.
Review 4:The staff were fantastically helpful and pleasant both before and durung our stay. Food was plentiful and interesting. Ski rental in the hotel. Onsen was lovely. Japanese style rooms are much nicer than western style.
Review 5:If you plan to eat dinner and breakfast at the hotel, make sure you let them know the day beforehand (or the day before you arrive). There's hardly any restaurants in the area and you could get stuck.
Review 6:Hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful!! We arrived at the Shigakogen Sunvalley bus stop at 7pm, it was pitch black outside and we had no idea where to go, but luckily they had staff waiting for us with a shuttlebus! The hotel facilities were clean and varied (ping pong table, air hockey + other arcade games). Cheap ski gear hire and shuttle buses. I would definitely stay with Shigakogen Sunvalley Hotel again if I travelled back to Nagano!
Review 7:What made my stay at Shiga Kogen memorable was the excellent staff at Sun Valley Hotel. They were very helpful, friendly, attentive and went out of their way to make sure I had a comfortable stay. My appreciation and many thanks to Mr Usui and his colleagues!
Review 8:Japanese-style rooms neither very comfortable nor spacious.
Review 9:Friendly staff, nice onsen, good traditional food for dinner, Western-style breakfast available, family-friendly atmosphere. Nice location in the mountains.
Review 10:The staff is so friendly, and was always ready to provide information and practical help on things we wanted to do. The home-cooked food is excellent and varied. There are plenty of nice hiking trails in the area.
Review 11:None to report
Review 12:Friendliness - excellent Onsens (separate). Imaginative 9 course meal every night - no two nights the same. Excellent value half board which I stronlgy recommend.
Review 13:Bit of a walk / slog through the snow from the parking to the hotel (which is the last in the row). But, they use their snow cat van to transport guests & their luggage back & forth, which is MUCH better than walking with bags. WiFi only available in the lobby / public areas. Didn't really have much of an impact - would have been more of an issue if we didn't live in Japan.
Review 14:Hotel right at the base of the Sun Valley ski slopes. Nice staff. Happy hour in the lobby - ends when the ski lifts stop - was a nice way to end the day with cheap drinks. Food (breakfast & dinner) was nice - having some western-ish items for breakfast was great with kids!
Review 15:That I had to go back home eventually. And the location wasn't close to any shops.
Review 16:Cosy and comfortable room and common room. Superb food and dining facilities. Great public bath facility. And most of all.. superb customer service; when I dislocated my shoulder, they rushed me to the hospital with one of the hotel workers who stayed with me the whole time and took me back. They even arranged trips into nearby towns for the guests. And they noticed I had one particular meal option twice they offered to make me something new just to keep things interesting for me. Bed and room was cleaned every single day. And the whole hotel seemed to be run by an adorable family who made me feel right at home.
Review 17:The hotel really needs and update. If looks like it got stuck on the '80s .
Review 18:The staff kindness and friendliness. Even thou they don't speak English much you can see that they really really try their best to help you out and allways try to make your stay as pleasant as possible :) a big thanks to Seo.
Review 19:it takes a little time to reach the resorts further away (on skis or shuttle), and there's no night life to speak of (if you're into that)
Review 20:Sun Valley is the first of the Shiga Kogen resorts as you enter the area, and although small and quiet, it's a great base for exploring the ski hills. The hotel's onsen is wonderful after a day of skiing, the food is excellent and if you're into 70ies chic, it's your place!
Review 21:The beds were so-so and the entire place smelled like cigarettes. You could hardly breath in the lobby when several people were smoking. I wish they had a designated smoking area or better ventilation. I even smoke occasionally but this was too much.
Review 22:Great breakfast, good coffee especially in the lobby after a day of skiing with some jazz music--but they need some new material. The onsen has a great view of the mountains.
Review 23:No wi-fi in the room - the shower was too small for me but that didn't matter because I was bathing in the onsen each day.
Review 24:My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights for a skiing trip. The service was outstanding (drove us around to get rental equipment for free, drove us into town one night for free, etc.) with super-friendly staff, the bed was comfortable and the onsen is great. The dinner was a little pricey but was great food and very plentiful. I also loved being able to ski in and ski out and store our gear in the lockers right off the ski-field.
Review 25:The hallways were smoky, but thankful the smell didn't carry into our room. The bathrooms were very small, hard when helping your children in the bathroom.
Review 26:The staff was very nice & extremely helpful. The onsen was beautiful. The location was great, on the end of a row of hotels so our kids had a safe place to play in the snow. Good was excellent.
Review 27:Same as 1970 Zero atmosphere No shops, restaurants, bars nearby .. Think the shining.
