Reviews for Yudanaka Seifuso

Review 1:Was so glad to have stayed at Seifuso. Very near the train station, so even with our large luggage, no problem getting to this place. However, no lift/elevator inside, so we have to carry our own luggage up the stairs (Our host helped me carry mine, phew!Brother carried his own). Love the dinner, it was delicious, so many dishes kept arriving, we were totally stuffed! I'll highly recommend the dinner set. The onsen was great, private onsen for free if no one else was in it. Our host was really nice, he gave us a ride up to the snow monkey park entrance, plus he even provided boots too. When we got back, he wanted to use towels to wipe the mud off my brother's shoe (brother didn't use the boots). Very humbled and touch by their sincerity and kindness. Oh! plus we were each given a shinshu apple! The best apple I had, sweet and crunchy... Perfect! I'll definitely stay here again if I were to visit monkeys in the future =)

Review 2:Only negative experience I had was that my back did not agree with the futons. But that's more because of MY personal sleeping requirements and not because they were using cheap futons. If you require more padding for your sleep, ask for additional futons to stack.

Review 3:Hot springs were AMAZING. Service, friendliness, and extra mile given by the family that owns the property was excellent and genuine. Very nice place to get away from metropolitan Japan and experience some of the more traditional and simple pleasures of the country. Very close to monkey park also a plus.

Review 4:Good facilities and the staff are really nice! The owner is great to talk to, he also personally drove us to the monkey park in the morning! The ryokan was very homely. They seem to get a lot of Australian tourists! There are three onsen in the ryokan. One indoors, one outdoors, and one family onsen. The indoor one had fruit floating in the spring water. Very serene and relaxing.

Review 5:The hosts were extremely kind and friendly. They went out of their way and gave us a lift in their car to the monkey park which was situated quite far away. The rooms were cosy, clean and neat!

Review 6:Check out was a little slow but this is a family business.

Review 7:We had breakfast which was delicious. The onsen were great. Staff were very kind and hospitable. They given gave us a few apples before we left.

Review 8:The tatami mats were sometimes a little uncomfortable

Review 9:The onsen and private bath experience was amazing. Also, the room was very beautiful. The location was absolutely incredible, Nagano is the most beautiful place !

Review 10:Nothing.

Review 11:The owners could not have been more helpful and welcoming during our stay. Matso drove us to the monkey park and to a local shop sp we could use the ATM, helped us by calling up the monkey park to ask for sightings and recommended a lovely local restaurant. The whole family running the ryokan were so great, it really made the stay memorable. The onsen was a highlight too. A great outdoor onsen we had private use of. The hotel is a little dated in decor, but clean and the location is ideal for anyone visiting the village. Highly recommend!

Review 12:Nothing not to like.

Review 13:Traditional ryokan with things done the old fashioned way. Service and hospitality from the owners as if you were old friends. Our second stay with them and we will be back.

Review 14:The owners don't speak very good English but they tried there best to accommodate you. Basically with a bit of patience and open mindedness we were able to understand each other. They are located in a very cute city and it's a nice break from the bigger crazy cities.

Review 15:Nothing really.

Review 16:I love the owner, he was so nice giving us a ride to snow monkey park. Traditional break fast was amazing, and I love the overall room set up.

Review 17:I didn't have a bad experience, but the private onsen definitely needs a facelift. The wood around the room had the green tinge of what I assume is mold? They should also consider posting some instructions in the room for how to properly experience an onsen (like how you have to bathe before getting in - I had done extensive research beforehand, but not everyone is going to do that - onsen are shared, so you need to clean yourself before getting in).

Review 18:Almost everything haha. The stay was excellent, very close to Yudanaka Station, and the meals were amazing. I definitely recommend you pay the extra $35 and get the Japanese style meal, you won't regret it. It's a ton of food and it's beautifully prepared. Getting to wear a yukata was super fun too, even though I didn't find out until after that I had tied it wrong haha.

Review 19:I didn't like that I didn't stay longer. Nothing bad about this place.

Review 20:The room was spacious and traditional. The outdoor onsen would have to be the best experience.

Review 21:This place was fantastic. The owners are very friendly, and although we spoke little Japanese they were happy to help us however they could. The onsens were amazing, with an outside, cooler option as well as two inside hotter options (one of which could be used privately). The place was very quiet while we were there, but we would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Review 22:it's ana amzing place.Onsen is superb. and the owner and his wife are really really kind. city is very calm in summer, but in hotel you can relax at all

Review 23:Even if the staff doesn't speak fluent English they are super friendly and helpful. Made sure we made the most of the ryokan's hot springs and in the morning they even took us to Jigokudani's Monkey Park for free.

Review 24:Was a wonderful place to stay. Hosts were friendly and helped with rides to and from train station in the rain although it is close enough to walk, no problem. We were upgraded to a large room without asking because it was available. Snacks and tea were waiting for us in our room when we checked in which was a nice touch. Everything was very comfortable and nice. The owners did not speak much English and we did not speak much Japanese but we were all able to communicate without any problems.

Review 25:It's somewhat difficult to communicate with the older couple who own the place, but they certainly try their best - don't let that stop you from visiting!

Review 26:Best experience we had during our stay in Japan. - Really nice private onsen you can share as a couple - Really friendly owners. The son of the owner gave us a ride to the Monkey Park. He also pointed out that there was a little town festival during our stay. We went there and had a great time.

Review 27:At the time of our stay we saw only a couple of other visitors, -not only in the hotel but in the entire village. We wondered if July is totally out of season?

Review 28:We got the feeling that this onsen was exactly like it was 30 years ago - same decoration, same owners/staff, same slippers, same newspaper clippings on the bulletin board... A bit worn out but very authentic. Nice outside onsen. And go see the snow monkeys. They are really worth a visit.

Review 29:We wasn't aware that woman and men weren't allowed to bath together which was kinda sad cause we had to split up in two different onsens. But that has probably more with Japanese culture rather than just this hotel.

Review 30:The staff was extremly helpful and actually drove us all the way up to the snow monkey park for free.

Review 31:there is no actual bathroom/shower, it is in the onsen

Review 32:near to station and room cleaned everyday and welcome tee and cookies are always there. free ride to monkey mountain.

Review 33:We got a big nice room. Staff were very helpful, they even drove us to the monkey park when we missed the bus... Lovely dinner and breakfast. We were there 2 nights and there was a different meal each time. And so much food we hardly managed lunch... Gorgeous private outdoor bath!

Review 34:It would be nice to have breakfast in the hotel.

Review 35:Location 100m from train station, Helpful staff. They helped to change the money what is extremely difficult to do in Yodanaka. Next day they transported us to the Monkey Park absolutely free! Thanks a lot!

Review 36:Can't praise this place enough - wonderful atmosphere, ultra-attentive hosts, excellent value for money. Host took us in his car up to the Monkey Park, then on to the 7/11 (where you can get ATM money). The memory absolutely lingers.

Review 37:Great family run business. Very accommodating and warm welcome. Great breakfast. Loved it. Very clean. Highly recommend it for an authentic Japanese experience.

Review 38:Futons aren't comfortable! One night would've been okay. They're just too hard (and I like hard mattresses). Think the ryokan experience is a little over-rated... No offer of free ride to monkey park which other reviewers mentioned - I guess that's a winter thing.

Review 39:Great location near station and bus-stop up to Monkey Park. Private onsen in hotel, very handy if you want to enjoy the experience with partner. Friendly family staff, only younger ones speak English. Cheap for a ryokan. Didn't try any of their meals.

Review 40:This ryokan has been our favourite onsen stay in Japan. The room washuge and so comfortable and luxurious. The outdoor bath is amazing. Theowner even closed it for my husband and I to have a private bathtogether. There's nothing like floating around a beautiful bathunder the stars with water flowing and flowers falling in the bath. Bookright away if you can!

Review 41:Really nice and helpful staff. They will do their very best to make your stay easy and worthwhile. Wonderful onsen(hot bath) and good base for many close attractions.

Review 42:dining table could have a deeper cleaning, but it's no big problem.

Review 43:Location - very close to the train station. Staff - we were driven to the Monkey Park and give directions for bus to return. The food - both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The Onsen - open air onsen was really refreshing!

Review 44:The owners were very friendly and made us feel at home. It's in very close proximity to the train station. Great place to stay if you're looking for a quiet retreat and traditional Japanese experience. Easy access to the Monkey Park too.

Review 45:Very difficult to communicate with staff in English.

Review 46:Possibility to use onsen privately is great for couple. Great dinner, served traditionally - not cheap but worth the money.

Review 47:So kind that they took us to the monkey park in their car and showed us where to get the bus back whenever we wanted. We didnt have the food but it looked (and we were told by other guests) was fantastic. The outdoor onsen was so lovely!

Review 48:it was not that easy to communicate in English, but the owners try very hard to help, so everything was fine

Review 49:Private Onsen, wonderful Japanese style room, convenient location, delicious Japanese breakfast.... Perfect

Review 50:Sad we couldn't spend more time there.

Review 51:Such a great place to stay. Staff were friendly and helpful, and strivedto communicate with us in English. Helpful in every way. One even droveus up to the local Snow Monkey Park, free of charge. Lent us gumbootsfor the walk there and back as it was extrremely muddy, and would haveruined our shoes. Comfy, spacious rooms. They even gave us an apple onthe way out :).

Review 52:Nothing, really!!

Review 53:Staying at Yudanaka Seifuso was 100% the highlight of our brief, week-long vacation in Japan in March 2015. At the end of our trip, my friend and I both wholeheartedly agreed that our one day/night spent at Yudanaka Seifuso was the absolute best memory. We felt so, so welcomed and catered to by the wonderful family who owns and runs the ryokan, and the peaceful, picturesque in-house hot springs felt like our own private spa - the perfect alternative to our original plan of wandering around outside in the cold to visit the numerous public bath houses and complete our "onsen crawl!" We would more than highly recommend Seifuso to any traveler in Yudanaka/Nagano, and dream of one day being able to visit again. Happy trails!

Review 54:Very nice staff and owner. The son took us to the snow monkeys and they made us fantastic dinner and breafast. It was no problem to do one veggi meal. Onsen was great and when we left we got an apple and everyone came to say goodbye.

Review 55:Not much explanation about the facility or town. Asked two have breakfast and dinner for "tomorrow". Next morning came and...no breakfast. We we're told and hour later that they do meals as dinner the first night. Breakfast the next morning. This was not explained to us. Also, researched showed that traditionally meals are served in your room, unfortunately here it it served at another location near the lobby. Fine...but agian. Would have been nice to know. Having said that... Meals we're incredible. Fresh and delicious. Rooms not sound proofed at all. Bring ear plugs. In the end. Very good value for money... but if you want the true ryokan/onsen experience. There are nicer places to stay close to the center of town.

Review 56:Very Traditional family run place.

Review 57:The friendly and helpful staff. We were transported too the start Snow Monkey track and due to the snow fall, we were given sludge boots on loan to trek our way to see the Snow Monkeys, all at no additional charge.

Review 58:Fantastic location close to the monkey park (owner son very kindly run us to monkey park in morning meaning that we had park to ourselves for 30 mins!) Private onsen Fan heater so not cold at night Japanese tea and biscuit provided in room

Review 59:Room a little dated and could have been cleaned more thoroughly before our arrival, but comfortable enough.

Review 60:Great location within Yudanaka itself (stone's throw from the train station); really friendly and welcoming staff; the outdoor was onsen a particular highlight

Review 61:Wall is a bit thin & the group staying next door was quite loud.

Review 62:Open air onsen Very close to Yudanaka train / bus station (2 mins walk) Friendly & helpful staffs Big bedrooms

Review 63:Large, beautiful Japanese style room. Delicious breakfast served in private room with many courses. The owner's son drove us to the Snow Monkey Park and also provided boots for us to walk in the snow. He also drove us to the station after I had injured myself in a fall.

Review 64:This is a wonderful little Ryokan run by a very kind Japanese couple and their son. Its location is excellent, about a five minute walk from Yudanaka station, and it has free parking across the road. The building itself is beautiful and built in traditional Japanese style. There were many different types of baths to choose from, and all were clean relaxing! I would definitely stay here again.

Review 65:The ryokan was only minutes from the train station. The owners were friendly and provided boots aND a ride up to the entrance to the snow monkey park.

Review 66:3 onsen (hot springs) that can be accessed for private use when available, free of charge. Very friendly family managing the hotel that will go above and beyond their duties to make your stay a memorable one.

Review 67:That we have to go..... but I hope that we will come back someday.

Review 68:The kindness of the staff. For the birthday of my daughter they offered her a birthdaycake. The onsen were wonderfull. We were complety happy.

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:Dinner was almost too much to finish. There were around 10 dishes with care to every details! Not to mention they were all delicious!!! Lovely experience with their onsen both private and open-air bath! We love our room!!! The host went beyond expectations to help us to get our favorite manju and tea to bring back home (which were beautiful, served in our room during our stay)

Review 71:Smoking was allowed in the reception area. My friend who smokes was very happy about it though!

Review 72:- It was no problem for them to prepare me a delicious vegetarian meal, which doesn't happen often in Japan! - The staff were friendly and helpful, and they even gave us a lift to the snow monkey park! They let us borrow snow boots too! - The 3 onsens were great, especially the apple onsen! - Our room was beautiful, clean and cosy even though it was snowing heavily outside!

Review 73:Walls can be a little thin making sleeping in difficult some mornings.

Review 74:Beautiful traditional hotel with amazing onsen baths. The staff is extremely friendly and help you out with whatever you need. Location is great; right in the center of town about 1-2 mins from the train station and a family mart.

Review 75:The family were very helpful, taking my husband to hospital, us to the snow monkey park and always caring about our baby! Great traditional place to stay with lovely onsen baths.

Review 76:It is an older building, so please keep your expectation in check.

Review 77:Great locally own ryokan. You can get free drop off to the snow monkey park. Must try the yam tempura at the cafe near the entrance call Enza. Best outdoor osen where I watched the feathery snow falls. Should try at least breakfast and dinner at the inn once. Breakfast is only 1000 yen with about a 10 plate spread, and dinner is 3500 yen with a 20 plate spread.

Review 78:The Onsen was a bit slimy - literally there was moss or algae in the bath, kinda gross. I felt dirty after getting out.

Review 79:We loved the traditional tea room set up with leg warming blankets :)

Review 80:The folks at Yudanaka Seifuso are the epitome of Japanese Hospitality. I lost my wallet and they went out of there way to help me look for it. In addition, they have kotatsus in their rooms which are amazing during the winter time.

Review 81:We loved the place, it's pretty cozy, not luxurious but really comfortable. We enjoyed a lot the open Onsen. Besides that the staff is extremely helpful, they not only took us to the Monkey Park, but also picked up there, for no additional price. We are very thankful for that.

Review 82:Nothing. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 83:Our room was huge, a 10 tatami mat area for sleeping and an 8 tatami mat area with a kotatsu heated blanket table. The owner's son drove us to the monkey park after we got settled in our room. There is a free private family onsen bath room that you can use if it's unlocked. The shared baths are also very nice and I even ended up alone in the outdoor one. The kaiseki dinner was amazing and completely worth 3500 yen each. There were so many little plates of delicious things. The futons were extremely comfortable and felt like sleeping on a noral mattress. The breakfast was ok, lots of salty salad type things that you can't quite identify, but the smoked salmon was very tasty.

Review 84:Room was very nice, traditional Japanese style. The hot spring was great, one of it can even be private. Staff was friendly, helpful and nice :) Dinner and breakfast were also yummy and local. Thanks very much!

Review 85:Great food (recommend the traditional dinner prepared onsite). Friendly staff (the ride to the snow monkeys was most appreciated). Private onsen was lovely. Heated table was bliss.

Review 86:Great family ryokan. Very near to station. We stayed for 2 nights to visit the monkey park. The hostes were very nice and drove us to the park in the morning absolutely free. And when we were leaving, they gave us delicious apples for our trip.

Review 87:Extremely close to the station. The staff were very friendly. The onsen were amazing, I had the outdoor bath all to myself. They drove me to the base of monkey park and gave me some apples as a parting gift.

Review 88:Nothing we didn't like.

Review 89:The owners were extremely hospitable, helpful and friendly. We were given a free lift up to the monkey park and gifts of fruit. The family room was spacious and very clean. It was located a short walk from the station and very easy to find. The onsens on the premises were excellant.

Review 90:The guesthouse is within the walking distance from the train station ~ 5 mins walk and easy to find. Nice and clean onzen, even with a private onzen. The owner is super friendly, even though we have communication problem *he only speak Japanese :) I will definitely stay here for my next visit.

Review 91:None

Review 92:Great location!!! All staffs were friendly and very helpful. Most of staffs don't speak english, I didn't find it hard to communicate, though. All facilities were functional. The ryokan also provided free ride to snow monkey park.

Review 93:Lovely family who went out of their way to help with transport to jigokudani park. Definetely recommend trying the traditional japanese dinner the cute little ladies make, so much delicious food. The breakfasts were nice and well balanced as well. The onsens were great :)

Review 94:The only setback was, the ryokan was not heated throughout the walkway. Rather cold in winter season.

Review 95:Friendly ryokan owners. Good location and walkable from train station. The ryokan owners' son offered to send us to Monkeys' Mountain and Ski Resort a definite plus factor. Receiving apples upon checkout is a nice gesture.Would book again in future.

Review 96:The private onsen was dirty, perhaps a sign could improve this, detailing how to use the onsen properly.

Review 97:The hosts drove us to the snow monkey park early in the morning to save us for the bus, and brought fresh sheets and new water each day. the place was spotless and the hosts welcoming. would recommend

Review 98:The ryokan is close to the mrt, just 2min walk away. The old couple hosting us were really friendly. The uncle drive us to the monkey Park so that we could make it in time before the closing hours. We opted for dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The food was prepared with so much detail and everything was super delicious!! They even gave us apples when we checked out. Will be staying here again during my next trip for sure!

Review 99:Location close to station. Onsen were great experience. Big rooms. Drove us to snow monkeys. Owners could not have been more helpful, even chasing us down and getting on board the train to give a forgetful daughter Her pink sock back.

Review 100:It's very close to the train station and only took us a couple of minutes to walk there. The owner and his family are so sweet. It was raining the day we went to see the snow monkeys and they drove us there without us even asking. The day we left they drove us to the train station because it was still raining a little. It wasn't very crowded when we were there and they let my husband and I use the indoor and outdoor onsens privately, which was great. This is where you should stay if you are going to visit the monkey park.

Review 101:Visited during peak of apple picking season. Comfortable room. Had dinner at ryokan, excellent and great value as well. Very good service. Onsen was downstairs from rooms and convenient to use.

Review 102:Room wa lovely and tea was waiting for us on our arrival. We also had dinner, and it was super! Highly recommend this place! We also got apples on our departure- which was really sweet .

Review 103:There was some smell of smoke in the room, maybe worth asking for non-smoking room as it is still legal to smoke Indoors in Japan.

Review 104:Absolutely everything

Review 105:Staff extremely friendly and helpful. We're driven to the snow monkeys and had other activities organised for us when requested. Onsen baths are wonderful, especially the outside bath. Breakfast and dinner are a must: delicious and generous.

Review 106:- super friendly and helpful staff (we were driven back to the station despite the fact it's just 3 minutes on foot and we were given apples as a farewell gift); - very nice, clean and beautiful place; - 4 onsens; I've seen 3 - one small private bath where you can lock yourself in (AFAIR the fourth one is also like that), very nice outside bath and large inside bath with insanely hot water (just keep in mind that the large inside bath and outside bath are rotated between male and female only around 2100 AFAIR, so time it well to experience both);

Review 107:The private bath should have a booking schedule so that guest can book time slots to use the bath. When we wanted to use it, it was already occupied and the user did not bother to lock the door!

Review 108:The room in the ryokan was fairly large and confortable. The outdoor public bath was quite large and nice. Location was within walking distance to train station and restaurants. There is a convenient store nearby. With our car, we can easily access the snow monkey park. Staff were friendly and the complimentary delicious apples presented to us on checking out was a nice gesture.

Review 109:The owners were amazing. Drove us to the monkey park and to the train station. Amazing breakfast. Rooms and Onsen were nice. We felt at home. I have to say again that the owners were so kind and respectful. It was a real treat.

Review 110:-No one explain me anything about the hotel ( I fond out the toilets and the onsen by myself, because everything was in Japanese and none was around) - No one ask me if I want to book some dinner or breakfast. - As a solo traveller was a boring/uncomfortable expirience.

Review 111:- The room was really nice. - I really apprecited the pick up service from the hotel to the Snow Monkey mountain.

The Fine Print
