Reviews for Hotel Marad

Review 1:- I have booked a room looking at the pictures ( I know they are not contractual) and there were tiles on the floor. There was instead carpet on the floor and 2 of us are allergic to dust mites.... Result: we had to take medicaments to sleep in there - Fix shower not really comfortable with kids... - We were not informed about breakfast time

Review 2:- On the first morning we were sent to the Bar to take breakfast ( coffee and croissant). Initially we were a bit frustrated since we assumed that this was 'the breakfast'' mentioned as included in the price. ...We discovered the day after that a normal breakfast was served from 7.00 to 09.30 am....and since we were late for breakfast on the 1st day they gave us the opportunity to have a breakfast anyway ...

Review 3:the interior of the room and expecialy the bathroom need to be updated: the shower was very small and the drain not clear quickly

Review 4:The view from the terrace was breathtaking ! the breakfast is good, we also like the restaurant

Review 5:If you have a car stay clear of the narrow streets in the town area. keep to main roads and autostrade.

Review 6:This is excellent for visiting Vesuvius and Pompei in one day. beautiful views. Excellent value for money. great patio on the roof and a pool area to cool off after a sightseeing trip. Great off street parking at the hotel.

Review 7:Would have preferred to have paid when booking and not at the hotel. Some of the staff were a bit cold towards residents. Location wasn't great.

Review 8:The price, the breakfast, most of the staff were friendly, good cleanliness.

Review 9:Good location just a quick train ride from Napoli or Ercolano. Pleasant, helpful staff, comfortable room, good food and transport to and from the train at Torre Del Greco too. Good value!

Review 10:Not a bad experience but for me the hotel was a little too far from restaurants shops etc. As I was a solo traveller I ate at the hotel every night & the food was lovely but it would have made a nice change to eat somewhere else

Review 11:Fabulous hotel in lovely setting

Review 12:Really nice, quite, familiar hotel with a great panorama terrace in a green area. Located in Torre, you will have the possibility for a lot of Sightseeing-Tours by car.

Review 13:WiFi was horribly slow and had connection issues despite having a very strong signal (access point was outside our room). I wish the pool was open later than 18:00 for some evening swimming. Shower stall was very small and the drain did not clear quickly.

Review 14:Very impressed with the room! It was better than it appeared in the photos. Spacious with a very large bed and an extra day bed. Great balcony with a view of the sea and Vesuvius. The area around the hotel was not very happening, but this was known to us and we preferred the free parking and close proximity to the highway for our rental car. Staff was extremely nice and always allowed us to bring breakfast up to our room.

Review 15:elsewhere staff were chaotic waiters especially at breakfast were clueless even though there were lots of them had trouble replenishing items or serving

Review 16:good sized room and the housekeeping ladies did a good job

Review 17:pool was a bit small with no real shallow end for smaller children. Difficult to pay for anything, staff always wanted to add it to your room, which made it difficult to keep track.

Review 18:Beautiful and clean, friendly staff and great views. Meals first class and a fabulous roof terrace. Good sizeable rooms

Review 19:The reception staff could smile a bit more

Review 20:The staff in the restaurant and terrace bar were wonderful. Especially, Pasquale, Rosario , Salvatore and Gegenschein.

Review 21:Getting 40+ mosquito bites from sitting by the pool. However staff did provide spray for room and sprayed round the pool area. The smell of cigarette smoke everywhere.

Review 22:Friendly staff who were very helpful in providing free car transport to and from the local station.

Review 23:The overall appearance was well put together and well looked after. Staff were very accommodating, particularly in the restaurant. Pool and surrounding area is very nice.

Review 24:We stayed in the annexe part of the hotel, comfortable and clean but with tiled floors throughout sometimes noise travels.

Review 25:The food and service was second too none! Location for Pompeii, Mt Vesuvious and Herculaneum as well as the airport was perfect. A car is a must if staying here.

Review 26:Torre del Greco is a sad area right outside of Naples. Driving through the city center felt like Detroit with graffiti and no stores or restaurants open, more like a bombed out ghost town.

Review 27:Proximity to Pompeii and to Naples

Review 28:This was the third time we stayed at the Marad. The only thing was that booking on line kept us from staying in the hotel - infact we were given a room on the other side of the hotel. the other thing was that if I am not mistake there was a ten percent on the bill, and we did not get it.

Review 29:This is a lovely hotel. Our room, overlooking the pool, was clean, spacious and comfortable and the staff were very helpful- whatever you asked for. Lovely breakfast buffet-lots of choice. My children liked the pool the most of all, but for me, the nicest thing was the rooftop terrace/bar--a lovely area to while away the warm evenings! Ideal for visits to Pompeii and Vesuvius.

Review 30:Perfect location for visiting Pompeii ruins, and relaxing afterwards. No need to use the car. One part is a hotel, another is a motel, so a range of prices is available. Nice pool, good pool furniture, pleasant restaurant, good continental breakfast.

Review 31:Guest room was just ok. You could hear everything in the hallway, stairway and steps. For some reason we received a smoking room. It was clean and odor free but the housekeeper lady - though very nice - smoked all day in the building. We were not in the main building which was ok but not special at all. I asked for a upper level floor- we got the first. Terrible wifi- in and out

Review 32:Restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Rooftop bar with stunning views

Review 33:There was no help with luggage. The assistant male manager with glasses was abrupt and had little understanding of English. The waiters in the restaurant were reminiscent of Fawty Towers. The restaurant menu was poor with little choice and small portions. Despite entering passwords etc we were unable to use the internet for the whole of our stay. The swimming pool was tired looking and dangerous with the only steps leading into the deep end. To enter into the shallow end meant a lunge from the side of the pool making it impossible to use with our 17month grandchild. The whole hotel appeared to need a general up dating. We wouldn't rate more than a 2-3 *

Review 34:Size of the room and the dining outside. The female assistant on reception was helpful and pleasant. There was plenty of parking.

Review 35:The regular bed was nice but the cots were definitely that.

Review 36:Definitely a safe area and the hotel complex is beautiful. Convenient access to Pompeii and Vesuvius. The staff were friendly and the pool was a perfect spot to relax in after all the walking.

Review 37:The room, although roomy, was not as lovely as the public areas.

Review 38:The gardens were very pretty. The terrace was lovely, the view of the bay and Mt Vesuvious were excellent.

Review 39:We had difficulty finding the hotel, but maybe we just took a wrong turn. Directions on booking.com not comrehensive enough. No hot option for breakfast.

Review 40:Great staff, especially the barman ( Rosario ) and his cocktails. Very nice evening meal with good choice. Nice wine. Lovely view. Really close to Herculaneum and Vesuvius ( just below the mountain ! ), Pompeii a little further but still easy.

Review 41:Double bed mattress was actually two singles side by side....with a crack!

Review 42:Fantastic staff attitude, especially in restaurant. Great location for visiting Paestum, Herculaneum, Sorrento, Pompeii, Naples, etc. And good parking (unusual for Italy) Food was excellent for all meals.

Review 43:The hotel is a long way from the station up a very steep hill, but as I have said the hotel provided us with a car to and from the station so it became no problem. The showers were very slow draining otherwise everything else was good

Review 44:The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially as we had been pick pocketed on our journey via the train. We were very lucky to meet a very helpful man at the station who took us to the police station and then to the hotel, he was so kind and generous we would like to send our thanks but don't know who he was. The hotel had lovely views, rooms were good and the staff helpful. As it was so far from the station they were kind and took us to and fro in a car.

Review 45:This hotel is amazing in every sense. It's got the best staff ever; they're friendly, helpful, flexible and constantly endeavor to make the guest feel comfortable. Breakfast was very good and they make the best cappuccino ever, which can be sipped on the terrace overlooking the Vesuvius and the bay. The room was extremely clean and the towels were replaced on daily basis. The location of the hotel is conveniently close to the Circumvesuviana train station, so it's reachable on foot. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who would like to get the most for their money.

Review 46:The wifi was low and the bed is too hard. The breakfast is every day the same and not very karge selection

Review 47:Nice location, friendly staff, very big balcony, beautyfull garden. Very very clean

Review 48:The restaurant was definitely a winner for us. We did not want to go out In the evening as we went site seeing all day. The quality of the food was exceptional, the chef Rosario is an amazing cook. Every night diner was top quality and also the service on 2 nights by waiter also call Rosario was first class.

Review 49:Room 228, WIFI wasn't working AT ALL!! At reception I was told there had been a misunderstanding with my booking. I asked for a non-smoking room but I ended up in a very smelly smoking one. Very noisy building. Too expensive.

Review 50:Free parking, position.

Review 51:There was nothing I did not like.

Review 52:Hotel Marad is a beautiful little oasis and a perfect location for jumping on the auto Estrada and heading for Pompeii. Continental breakfast was delish, dinners at the restaurant were great. The young gentleman waiter was superb and very helpful in answering our questions. The grounds were beautiful.

Review 53:Quadruple room quite far from the main hotel. Balcony not very well maintained

Review 54:Spacious room Excellent breakfast Big parking lot Close to best attractions (by car) Excellent staff service. Great view of the bay

Review 55:nothing

Review 56:It's location: close to roads but quiet all the same. Convenience for Herculaneum; Vesuvius; Pompeii. Good proximity for access to A3 autostrade. Hotel: good restaurant; roof-top terrace; very modern and stylish; clean and very efficient.

Review 57:It is about 1 km uphill from the train station and shopping area. If you arrive by train, call the hotel and they will come and pick you up for no extra charge.

Review 58:The helpful and accommodating staff. The peace and quiet. The views from the balcony. Restaurant meals were reasonably priced. The amenities. The price....

Review 59:More tourist information, places of interest nearby would have been helpful.

Review 60:Very comfortable room with views of the coast and Vesuvius. Very attentive and hepful staff. Attractive gardens and pool.

Review 61:Location - long uphill walk from train station and lack of restaurants in Torre del Greco.

Review 62:Pool, roof top bar - great views and cocktails, rooms cleaned and towels were changed daily, good buffet breakfast.

Review 63:Hairs (more than one!) in the shower and bathroom. A wedding on Saturday night with very loud music, no information provided before to be prepared to that.

Review 64:Situated outside Napoli which is better when you drive, you can park for free in a secured area. Close to Herculanum and Pompei.

Review 65:The front desk staff were unhappy, never acknowledged people and when we asked questions they would respond with short answers. For being a 4-star hotel, the showers were too small and barely had room for one adult to move around. Also, the water leaked on the floor because it was so small. Pool closed at 8pm.

Review 66:If you have a vehicle, it's in a convenient location away from busy Napoli (Naples) and close to Pompeii. The bartender was great and attentive to our 7 and 15 year olds needs by giving them snacks. The Skybar has an excellent view.

Review 67:Not easy to reach without car - we seemed to be the only guests travelling collectively. We asked the receptionist to help us find the right bus or train to get to our next destination, but he said that there were none - and did not want to help us further.

Review 68:The hotel is quiet, clean and with nice surroundings. Nice little swimming pool, charming breakfast area and nice restaurant. High standard without the snobbish atmosphere - we felt welcome. The family room was OK sized, and we had a huge terrace. Very nice view of Vesuvius. Breakfast was good, a quite big selection for being Italian.

Review 69:The area near the hotel quiet littered. Train station is badly signposted and the hike back uphill to the hotel from it. Train was busy when we were on it and we had to stand all the way to Sorrento.

Review 70:Staff did all that was asked of them, even printed out boarding passes for me. Breakfast buffet was extensive. Pool side facilities very good, with towels and waiter service to table. Rooms were cleaned every day and restocked. Vesuvius looks down on the hotel, Pompeii is a short train ride away and Sorrento a bit further.

Review 71:Everything, This hotel facilities are very poor and condition is awful. Need clean every where. Staff reaction is horrible and poor. Mosquitoes every where. Not for a single moment I recommend this hotel.

Review 72:Nothing

Review 73:The location - while close to Vesuvius and Herculaneum is in a shabby neighbourhood. Local transport can be tricky! We did not have a hired car and were quite glad when we saw the traffic….

Review 74:Generally a relaxed atmosphere in a pleasant environment. Meals were good in the evening and the waiters very courteous and good humoured. The view from the top floor reception area is stunning.

Review 75:Quite a way out of Naples, but that's what we wanted. Planned to get local train into Naples - the Circumvesuviano - hotel gave us a complimentary lift to the station as it was raining! Excellent service all round - spacious and very good value for money. Restaurant very good.

Review 76:This is not down to the hotel's responsibility, but if you're taking a taxi from Naples airport, it will cost you around 50 euros to get there, and the sign to the hotel at the roundabout just 100 metres down the gate is covered by another sign, and the taxi drivers won't know where to go! Make sure you have a TomTom with you. Alternatively, arranging a pick up service might save you a few quid.

Review 77:The staff were unbelievably helpful, to the point that they didn't hesitate to make one of their cars available to us and take us around hospitals when one of our friends felt unwell. Very prompt and kind and we are forever grateful. Also, the terrace has a fantastic view and the outdoors pool gave us precious minutes of relaxation in the early morning hours. We were there with our four-month old and the staff were great with him too. Excellent service to the very last moment when they went out of their way again to help arranging the next step of our journey.

Review 78:Wifi on the roof terrace week, in the room it was good though. Shame that they didn't serve drinks on the terrace earlier than 8-9 PM, when most guests went inside, as most of them were with children and the evenings were a bit chilly.

Review 79:The hotel as a good value for money, in a good location if someone wants to visit Pompeii and the Vesuvio. The room was very clean, the staff was kind and the breakfast pretty good. Beautiful roof terrace with view to the see and the Vesuvio. Quite close to the train station and a green villa area. Food and bev at affordable prices.

Review 80:There wasn't many restaurants locally and only the hotel restaurant was within easy reach but didn't open until 8pm which was a little too late for us.

Review 81:It was very relaxing and lots of quiet terraces to relax. The view from the 2nd floor up was beautiful. Really nice garden too. The kids loved the pool and the staff were really helpful.

Review 82:Calm

Review 83:excellent location for trips to Pompei and Mount Vesuvius. Really friendly and helpful staff who put up with out poor efforts at Itailian.

Review 84:Poor internet, scafholding on the balcony and loud construction works last night without prior information

Review 85:initially there was no hot water in the bathroom which needed fixing . But it was fixed quickly.

Review 86:location, Free parking , restaurant does great food.

Review 87:Great location, good view from roof terrace which has a bar in the evening with a helpful, friendly barman.

Review 88:Local town disappointing.

Review 89:Amazing location. Sat on balcony looking right to the Amalfi Coastline and left to Vesuvius. Perfect.

Review 90:Close to Herculaneum and Vesuvius

Review 91:Nothing !

Review 92:Staff where the best I have ever experienced . So helpful and nice could not fault anyone . All fantastic xx

Review 93:Wifi in room intermiiitent

Review 94:Good central location with facilities neRby

Review 95:Very easy access to versuvius. Food & staff good & friendly. Pool small but adequate & excellent value for money.

Review 96:Clean and tidy. In a good location but still quiet.

Review 97:Folks at reception unfriendly.

Review 98:Great location. Good clean place. We had great sea view room. Easy access to Vesuvius (15 mins drive).

Review 99:-

Review 100:A restaurant at the hotel with good food and good service A nice swimmingpool

Review 101:Nasty tour groups. No classic Italian food. No value for money.

Review 102:Okay environment. Pool Save parking

Review 103:Xhttp://livetleker.wordpress.com/2014/09/30/dagens-anbefaling-hotel-marad/

Review 104:easy access,beautiful gardens,v comfortable hotel

Review 105:Limited to 2 wifi connections per room

Review 106:Location Staff Rooms

Review 107:breakfast. unhappy staff. except one girl on front desk, room with garden view should mean over looking car park. hotel rented out pool one day so was not allowed to use it. Kathy from Brisbane must be talking about another hotel

Review 108:nothing stands out. pool was o k.

Review 109:Only very slight criticism is that the bathroom could do with a bit of a refurb - but that did NOT in any way detract from our enjoyable stay.

Review 110:Staff were very, very helpful, friendly and cheerful - nothing was too much trouble. Location was good and grounds attractive. We had dinner in the hotel for all of the four nights we stayed there and the food was excellent; breakfast too. After we left and later arrived at Paestum I discovered that I had left my iPod in the hotel room. On phoning the hotel they offered to forward it to UK via UPS. This wasn't necessary as we were 'passing' the hotel on our way back to Rome and collected the item a couple of days later. Again I would strongly recommend the hotel. It is useful to have a car for access to the various antiquities/ Amalfi coast etc. though others appear to have had no problems in exploring the area. Even with a car, satnav and map I managed to take a tour of the most difficult areas of Napoli when on a trip to Erculano which was about 3.5 km away !!!!!! No matter, we survived and can dine out on the tale. Conclusion a very good hotel.

Review 111:We liked everything!

Review 112:The restaurant chicken with almonds was excellent! They were SO nice to pick us up at the circumvesuviana train station when we were stranded.

Review 113:The room decor was a little dated and the shower overflowed. Thepressure was so high that it seemed more like undergoing a brutalinterrogation technique than a gentle cleansing experience.

Review 114:The reception staff were very helpful and the waiters in the restaurantwere very personable and friendly. The food was excellent and goodvalue. The wine we had would have been more expensive if we had boughtit online. The breakfast (included in the price for the room) was verygood with nice cold meats, boiled eggs, several types of bread andpastries. The outside areas and the car park are well maintained andattractive. The Herculaneum excavations are within easy reach. We drove(10 mins) and parked in the covered car park for 2€ per hour.

Review 115:We stayed in family room in detached building and that wifi spot was refusing connections. Not a huge issue as the network was available for free in main building. Must have been a temporary issue.

Review 116:Excellent facilities worth for money.

Review 117:No public transportation ( but it was ok with the circumvesuviana while visiting ) - however a bit far with a piece of luggage and narrow ( or inadequate) sidewalks. People smoking on the balconies - the smell woke us sometimes up. Poor insonorisation of the walls and the doors ( people speaking loudly in the rooms next door or in the corridor were quite disturbing)

Review 118:Superb view Quietness at night Children friendly Friendly staff serving breakfast Nice breakfast Close to Pompeii , Ercolano, Napoli, the Vesuvio with very friendly and helpful people in Torre del Greco!

Review 119:The wi-fi just wouldn't work with our tablet. The pavements walking up from the Circumvesuviana were as bad as might be expected, which made wheeling our suitcases up the hill a problem. Like much of Campania, finding a restaurant that is more than a bar/pizza/cafe is tricky. There seem to be none in Torre Del Greco! Very minor - but in a room for four you might expect more than one small towel rail in the bathroom.

Review 120:Very polite, helpful staff, providing advice, booking a taxi, friendly chat in the restaurant. Consistent, good food, with good value wine as well as bottles for special occasions. Rooms very clean - good service. Nice pool (if a bit chilly for an April swim). It was close to excellent cheese/salami and fruit&veg shops. Free internet access on desktops in reception. Quiet-ish and just 1km from the Circumvesuviana station.

Review 121:Nothing.

Review 122:Balcony with beautiful view... on one side the sea with Capri, other side volcano. Staff very friendly and helpful, good WiFi signal. Large parking area just in front of the hotel.

Review 123:The staff were very helpful. The front desk person on our arrival offered to take us on a personal tour of Napoli in his car. We were hesitant at first but it was the best thing we did. He collected us at 4.15 pm and drove us around and also walked with us and showed us amazing churches and old streets full of character. We then had pizza at a pizzeria that has been operated by the same family since 1923. The whole tour cost a total of 90 euro and our dinner (26 euro) for the 3 of us to have a huge pizza each and a large bottle of beer each. we returned to the hotel at 10.30 pm. It was fabulous! The next day we had the confidence to catch the train into Napoli on our own and visit several sites,we even went back to the same pizzeria. The hotel is in a nice quiet area and our room had wonderful views. We highly recommend this hotel. The breakfasts were buffet style with lots of choices. We had dinner at the hotel on 2 nights and the meals were very nice and reasonably priced.

Review 124:The rooms and facilities were all excellent, and the staff helpful and friendly. I'd certainly stay again. Location is OK, and it's not too far from a railway station to travel into Naples (which I must admit we didn't do).

Review 125:Poor internet signal

Review 126:I wouldn't call it a 4* hotel, it's not as fancy as it is praised anyhow it seems to be a treasure left in a little, not so friendly village. The view from the hotel is magnificient, the food in the restaurant is gorgeous, everything is clean and comfortable. People from reception need to smile more and practise more english, anyhow they are helpful and courteous at all times. If you want to see the surroundings with a native, local guide, ask for Maurizio. He will take you to places you might not be able (or are not brave enough) to go to. Torre del Greco itself is boring and not so beautiful, though this hotel is highly recommended (close to the train 'circumvesuviana', anyhow beware of the hill you need to walk up in order to reach the hotel - with lots of baggages is not so fun)

Review 127:The local area. There isn't enough to do around the local area and the streets were full of dirty rubbish on pavements at times which is not very pleasant at all.

Review 128:The whole hotel was lovely with great food, friendly staff, clean and just a generally nice feel to it. Rooms are really nice too.

The Fine Print

Please note that the rooftop terrace bar is open from 01 June until 31 August from 19:00 to 00:00 daily, and only in fine weather.
