Reviews for Hida Takayama Washington Hotel Plaza

Review 1:Only given one room card, and twin room was small, even by Japanese standards. Also, front desk staff were not as welcoming and helpful as other similar hotels in Japan.

Review 2:Handy location near station

Review 3:Staff's lack of enthusiasm to serve. First time I've seen Front Desk closed and that's in the afternoon I'm talking about. Asked for an extra pillow and had to collect personally from Front Desk!

Review 4:Location

Review 5:Room is quite old and the bathroom is very small.

Review 6:Location is very near from the station. Only across the street, and surrounding is near with restaurant and mini market.

Review 7:NIl

Review 8:Near to Takayama train station, we stayed just a nite after arriving from Nagoya late in the evening. The convenience is that the next morning , we can continue our journey to Shinhotaka much more easily with our suitcases.

Review 9:caustrophopic. too small even for asian person like myself. everything was like boxy.

Review 10:location is excellent. other than that, too small compared to other japanese hotels i have stayed

Review 11:cramped hotel room and the hotel clerk less friendly and do not understand English

Review 12:Location very close with JR and bus station and also many varieties restaurants nearby

Review 13:There was nothing we did not like.Room is quite expensive but we needed a room with 3 beds and close to the station so there were not so many options for us.

Review 14:Location is the best for us as we are a family of 3 (70 years old mom, my sister, and myslef). The hotel is just opposite to the train/bus station which is very convenience. Besides, it closes to Ajikuratengoku restaurant, one of the best places for hida beef, just 5 min walk.

Review 15:The staff was extremely helpful. I asked for and got a very quiet room. Breakfast choice between Japanese and Western for 1000 Yen. This hotel is located almost right across the railway station and just a 10 minute walk from all the major locations.

Review 16:Front desk clerk was borderline rude. He seemed put out to just provide us a luggage cart for our bags. Most hotels in Japan graciously took our bags directly to our room for us. The room, including the bathroom, was not very clean.

Review 17:Breakfast buffet.

Review 18:The "air con" was heating only - which would be fine dining the Takayama winter - but it is not so good at other times. For cooling, open the window!

Review 19:The location is great - handy for the train and bus stations. This is not a bad hotel but neither is it an excellent hotel. It is an average hotel - and there is nothing wrong with that. You get what you pay for. The staff are helpful. The rooms are OK - but you wouldn't want to spend all day in them - they are small but this is Japan. But you will be out seeing the countryside, touring the town and eating beef in the evenings so a small room will be OK. Breakfast is adequate. But the location is great - get off the train, cross the road and check in.

Review 20:rooms are very small, and beds are typically hard...but not a dealbreaker. i would return.

Review 21:the location across from train/bus station was extremely convenient, and NOT noisy. There were excellent restaurants on the street nearby, all services, and an easy walk to old town Takayama.

Review 22:The room was the smallest I have ever stayed in and I have travelled extensively in Japan. When I requested a second key for my partner I was told that only one key would be given. Like living in a motorhome!

Review 23:The hotel was close to the station and a couple of restaurants.

Review 24:Room was cramped. Grumpy receptionist. No freezer in very small fridge.

Review 25:Beds were good, Wi-Fi was OK but dropped out a few times, good location relative to public transport and sites.

Review 26:Would have to agree with many other reviews - the rooms are tiny, the beds not that comfortable, it was however clean. 'It does what it says on the tin' basic but clean room in a convenient location.

Review 27:Good location close to station

Review 28:really no complaints

Review 29:Convenient location opposite the station. Room was clean but pretty small & the double bed was really only 3/4 size double.....cosy!

Review 30:Bed was small.

Review 31:Location was perfect for our requirements. Close to transport and restaurants and the old town was in easy walking distance. Rooms were small but clean overall you get what you pay for.

Review 32:Travelling with 4 (2 adults and kids of 10 & 15), and booked the Triple bedded Room, which was perfect to sleep 4 comfortably. Rooms is spacious enough for a 2 night stay, incl suitcases. Also, the fact that its opposite the train station is ideal, so just roll the suitcases across the broad. its a short walk to downtown, so PERFECT!

Review 33:The room is very small (11m2) which is unfortunatly the usual size in those kind of hotels in Japan. But this time it is overpriced.

Review 34:Helpful staff and very interesting situation, close to the train and bus station.

Review 35:Not good value for money. Staff is not helpful. Room is very small, even though I requested non-smoking room, I can still smell the smoke. In my opinion, smoking rooms should be on a separate floor.

Review 36:Good location

Review 37:The hotel is a little bit old

Review 38:The hotel location in front of the Takayama station Walking distance to the old town of Hida Takayama Perfect option if you have side trip to Shirakawa area

Review 39:Room is expensive for what you get. Beds too hard and small rooms.

Review 40:Great location, two minute walk from the station and a great base for exploring Takayama.

Review 41:The rooms are very small with nowhere convenient to put a medium to large size suitcase. The beds are hard.

Review 42:Great position just across the road from the train station and close to shops and restaurants. Rooms have a small fridge and kettle.

Review 43:Hotel close to primary transport. Staff friendly and assisted with a last minute change in requirements, without fuss or bother. Takayama is a pretty locality with beautiful old sections just a short walk from the Washington Plaza. Don't miss the morning markets. Town people are very friendly.

Review 44:The old fashioned bedding. (All would be white in colour to impost aclean look and be changed regularly.) The lobby rest room is not kept upto standard.

Review 45:The location is excellant. Attractions within minutes ' walk.

Review 46:You could hear everything from room to room. Hotel could use a facelift, it seems to be still in seventies. Bathroom was like a plastic cube.

Review 47:No sound from trains came into the hotel, station was really close. Foodstore close by and open 24h.

Review 48:shower curtain has some black spots, perhaps mold. Furnishing older compared to another hotel nearby at similar price point.

Review 49:Location. Great pillow with beans. Good sturdy mattress.

Review 50:Requested a non-smoking room but assigned to a smoking room. Talked to the staff and he claimed it was a non-smoking room and no other room was available. He also told me to open the door to release the smell. What an excellent suggestion!!! Finally, the staff found me a room that was on the same floor as the lobby which was quite noisy.

Review 51:Western breakfast was cold and the bacon pictured was missing - very disappointing as we rarely indulge in hotel breakfasts.

Review 52:The Black Sea Cafe next door: Tomato Ramen and BBQ chicken & veg that you cook yourself at the table. Traditional Japanese restaurant out the door, turn left and left again or follow your nose like we did. Cook-yourself Hida beef on Hoba leaf and whole mackerel.

Review 53:Room was small but clean without any space for stuff and luggages. Unconfortable bed and pillow :-(.

Review 54:Hotel is very good located near to the historical center and rail station. We stayed only for one night.

Review 55:Too bad we had no other accommodation options being the big day of the spring matsuri. Painful to have to fork out ¥17k for a non too comfy tiny space without breakfast.

Review 56:Across the street from JR Takayama Station

Review 57:Thr bed was hard and it took a while to get used to. Wished we were told to open the windows to cool down ages a day out in the sun (we'd tried the air conditioning and after an hour or so, it started blowing hot air - when we informed Reception that there was a problem with the AC, we were told that they have been switched off for the season).

Review 58:Conveniently located.

Review 59:Hotel room was a bit dated. Bed was very small for 2 people.

Review 60:The hotel was right across the street from the JR Takayama station, making it very convenient.

Review 61:Its directly opposite the Takayama JR Station and Bus Terminal making it convenient to go to Kawaguchi-ko. There re plenty of restaurants nearby although you might want to go further back in (not main street) to get a more reasonably priced food.

Review 62:Its location is the best. It is very convenient for traveling by train and bus because the hotel is opposite to train/bus stations. It takes only 10-15 minutes of walking to tourist places in Takayama.

Review 63:The front office staff were not welcoming . Rather cold and unfriendly. For the higher rate that we paid compared to the rest of the hotels that we stayed at (of same category) its way overpriced . The room was very small and old and breakfast wasn't included. We decided to check out 1 day earlier.

Review 64:Excellent location, directly across the road from the railway station and bus station where you took the bus to the folk museum Hida no sato. A short walk to historic areas of the town.

Review 65:less choices of breakfast

Review 66:standard twin room was comfortable and we had enough space for our stuff. There 're also many good restaurants around this are.

Review 67:IT´S IN FRONT TO THE STATION. GOOD LOCATION TO TAKE THE BUS TO SHIRAKAWAGO. 5 MINUTES BY WALK TO THE DOWNTOWN IN TAKAYAMA. REALLY GOOD PRICE TO SPEND A NIGHT BACKPACK. TAKAYAMA IS JUST TO SPEND ONE DAY NOTHING MORE.

Review 68:The room was too small for twin beds. No room for the suitcases. Seems by area more suitable for a single room.

Review 69:The hotel is opposite the train station and central bus stop. Old city within walking distance. Good WIFI signal.

Review 70:Location is perfect, just across takayama train station, has a convenient store nearby. An excellent restaurant with hida beef menu in 2-3 minute walk distant.

Review 71:The front desk staff unfriendly, no smile and unpolite unlike the others Japanese that we met. I don't like the pillow which filled unknown material, however I get normal pillows from front desk.

Review 72:Good location. Just opposite of the bus station.

Review 74:The hotel staff is not very helpful and their english is quite poor.

Review 75:The location of the hotel is just opposite the train and coach station. However, it is a bit far from the takayama old town.

Review 76:The room is old and has some problem with the bathtub draining system.

Review 77:We plan to spend a night at Shirakawago after leaving. The hotel keep the luggages for us for a day.

Review 78:Staff at reception desk were not very friendly. Room was not ready at check in time, (although it was very busy being new year). Hotel breakfast was very ordinary and not worth the money.

Review 79:The location was fantastic for JR pass holders, just across the road from the station. Also good location to walk to old part of town. We stayed in 2 rooms, twin and small double. Twin was very good and spacious but much more expensive.

Review 80:Walls are too thin. I could hear voices from other rooms when I was in the toilet.

Review 81:Location is excellent. It's directly opposite JR Takayama station which is so important when you have to push luggage through snow.

Review 82:Everything was fine.

Review 83:We liked the location just opposite the station. It works very well during snowy weather for easy access to everything. Mr. Sato at the front desk was particularly helpful and patient for dinner reservations, taxi etc.

Review 84:The receptionist doesn't show his willing to help his customer.

Review 85:The hotel is in front of the station so it is easy to find and catch the taxi to get around the town. Many restaurants with delicious food are near by.

Review 86:Quite a distance to the old town.

Review 87:Location - right in front of the JR. station and Nohi Bus Terminal. There are various convenience shops and souvenir shops around the hotel.

Review 88:there was not much that we do not like

Review 89:location was just right in front of the train station so its easy for you to walk to the hotel, especially if you arrive late in the nite

Review 90:Nothing

Review 91:Opposite JR rail station and walking distance to all local attractions. Clean, comfortable and value for money. Asked for non smoking and windows that opened and got both.

Review 92:I wish the hotel had bicycle so I do not have to rent it.

Review 93:I had no idea about Takayama, it was my first time there and in Japan. I stayed there as a hub to go to Kamikochi and Shiragawa-go. I had some idea before booking that the hotel is close to the train station and bus terminal so I booked it. It is very convenient for me as I did not really want to be around in Takayama that much. I did not have to get up so early to catch a bus which is really good! It is just the opposite of the train station. I was there with a group of friend and booked a room for 3 persons. The room is big.

Review 94:Opposite railway and bus stations. 5 minute stroll to merchant';s houses. Clean spacious room. Suggest early morning visit to this area - 7am ideal.

Review 95:Room a little stuffy, air conditioner control only made warmer (presume it was more heating for winter time)

Review 96:Great location near train station and walking distance to sights. Basic small western type hotel room with all the usual items eg fridge, wifi etc..

Review 97:The bed was too hard and the pillow was too flat - it's very bad for the neck, especially there are existing neck problems.

Review 98:The location. Easy to do day trips as the bus and train station was across the road.

Review 99:The Hotel is right across the bus terminal and so convenient for us who travel by bus to Takayama.I read earlier reviews about indifferent reception staff and hard pillows but staying there proved everything wrong. Staff was quite friendly and helpful, we were given a soft pillow and a hard pillow each. My wife left her cellular phone behind and we contacted the Hotel receptionist from my home country and they managed to send the phone to a friend of mine who lives in Tokyo. Quite helpful and accommodating.

Review 100:I felt that plumbing in my room could be improved a little (there seemed to be water dripping from the shower at times, and the toilet needed to be flushed a couple of times.

Review 101:Location.

Review 102:- The hotel appears a bit dated on the outside, however the room was immaculate and extremely clean.

Review 103:- Located opposite Takayama train station & Bus Station, so really convenient to visit surrounding areas including Shirakawa-go. - Hotel was super clean as standard for all hotels in Japan. - Location was also close to the main downtown area so there is easy access to a variety of eateries and bars. Takayama old town is also is only a 10 minute walk away.

Review 104:Staff didn't speak English that well and didn't seem as friendly as other places in Japan. Bathroom very small

Review 105:Close to Takayama station. All facilities were good. Room very spacious.

Review 106:• Straw pillows - very hard & uncomfortable • Hard bed • Unhappy staff • Breakfast was the same everyday. Tiny portions - especially the egg!!! • No laundry • Would not give us an extra pillow • Could not control temperature of room • Not good at communicating via email!!!

Review 107:• Location was excellent. • It served the purpose for the price you paid. • Our room was a triple - large and clean with a pretty good view. • Good selection of movies • Would probably come back again - with my own pillow!

Review 108:Counter staff on my stay period was not friendly and limited English spoken.

Review 109:Central location to all attractions, public transports all within walking distance. This is my second stay and the hotel is good

Review 110:Staff tried to speak English to me despite the fact I spoke perfect Japanese to them...and I couldn't understand their broken English.

Review 111:Location is right opposite the train statio, so good if you have bags to carry but only a short distance to all the great sites In Takayama. The rooms were clean and comfortable and value for money. Don't expect huge rooms...you're in Japan!

Review 112:the price ( not including brakfast ) ... We had much better in the other hotels we went too for a cheaper price ( + including breakfast )

Review 113:the location , close to the station

Review 114:Fridge is way too small, I could not fit in 5 water bottles The wifi did not work in room, There was no signal, Wifi only worked in hall

Review 115:Location directly across from the Takayama Train Station

Review 116:The wall is so thin you can hear the neighbor snore.

Review 117:As cost-saving option, the room size is somehow acceptable although semi-double bed is too small for 2 people. It's right in front of JR Takayama station, and the most of tourist attractions in downtown Takayama are in walking distance.

Review 118:Staff were rather off-hand and not even on the desk at all when we checked out.

Review 119:Slightly larger room than normal for Japan. Well situated opposite bus and railway stations. Takayama is quite a pleasant place, nice to walk around. Not too crowded when we were there. Not many good places to eat however. 7/11 store just nearby.

Review 120:- mattress too firm for us, impossible to sleep on your side - pillow firm as well, seemed to be filled with plastic straws, not comfortable

Review 121:- location: right across JR station, easy to walk to touristic sights

Review 122:Bed was hard and uncomfortable.

Review 123:Great location, good breakfast. The room and bathroom were very clean and tidy. Excellent free wifi. There were also adaptors available.

Review 124:ROOM TOO SMALL

Review 125:VERY CLOSE TO STATION

Review 126:Hotel location very near with train station n bus station.

Review 127:The double bed was uncomfortable and the pillows too.

Review 128:The location was convenient. The staff was helpful.

Review 129:Small room.

Review 130:Just next to the train station.

Review 131:Location is good!

Review 132:Twin room is a bit to small.

Review 133:Location is the best, close to train station and convenient store.
