Reviews for Villa Campomaggio
Review 1:Some things just didn’t make sense: The closest parking even for check-in and luggage drop, was in a gravel lot down a pretty long driveway of large uneven stone pavers, and then the layout even inside the hotel and despite the elevator required going up and down a few steps here and there. There was no one to help with your luggage, and while we don’t usually care about that, it was odd that they made no real effort to make it easier to get your luggage to your room, and/or didn't have porters for such an otherwise nice place. Also, the spa is in the lower floor of the hotel and there’s a large spiral staircase coming up from it, so you smell the odors from that as you walk around it on any of the above floors. On a couple of occasions there was a pungent unpleasant odor of nail polish. Next, there was a bit of black mold in the caulking in the shower. The place was otherwise very clean but they need to spray some bleach on that. Also, the welcome pack that they email upon your booking describes that they organize a wine and cheese tasting every evening at 6:30, but fail to mention the 10 euro cost. I don’t think it would have bothered us if we hadn’t kind of been led to expect that it was included. Breakfast is free and was pretty good, but they were very particular about where you could take food to, even when all the tables were full, and even though there seemed to be room for more tables, plus the lobby area.
Review 2:The hotel is very attractive, with beautiful grounds in a spectacular setting, and the rooms themselves were large and lovely. The location is great if what you want is rural Chianti. Many wineries nearby, and a few good restaurants too (note: no full restaurant at the hotel). But be aware that the hotel is very isolated up a long dirt driveway.
Review 3:Hard to find, make sure to use the instructions you get per email beforehand.
Review 4:Nice, professional staff, very pleasant and warm room (October), light meal in the evening (don't have to go out late).
Review 5:I wanted a view of the Chianti countryside when I woke up each morning and Villa Campomaggio delivered. Great location, excellent service, and quaint location. We're planning our next visit to Chianti and Villa Campomaggio as soon as possible!
Review 6:Having to leave
Review 7:The 'girly ' team as they so called themselves are the most delightful hospitality team we have ever encountered . Nothing is a trouble and everything they do is with a smile. The setting too was magical. A perfect spot for day trips or simply relaxing. We are already planning our return visit .
Review 8:Would prefer a shower curtain around the tub. Not a lot of light in the room, so we woke up later than usual (maybe not a bad thing).
Review 9:At the end of a long day, to check in, we walked up the stairs to get to the reception desk and behold a magnificent view and grounds; beautiful setting overlooking vineyards. Very nice room, cheerful service. Ability to have a light dinner on site.
Review 10:we arrived late and they had no rooms other than one right off the lobby, right off the dining terrace. we asked to move for our 2nd night, but they were unable to accommodate which was too bad as not as much privacy as desired... also, no spa treatments available on arrival- need to book at time of reservation which i also wish we'd know ahead of time.
Review 11:the villa itself and facilities are beautiful; not fussy, but classy and beautiful; the terraces and pool area are beautiful. the food was very good, the service impeccable.
Review 12:It was fabulous! The location, the spa, pool, garden and views on the vineyards. The staff is super friendly and available to assist with your request.
Review 13:The restaurant menu was a light dinner - think a full menu would go down well
Review 14:Staff excellent- extremely helpful. Property is beautiful and the swimming pool and spa are a lovely touch.
Review 15:Outstanding, Beautiful setting, clean, lovely food and drink, staff were just brilliant, friendly, nothing to much trouble. Best holiday ever. Thank you all.
Review 16:Wonderful location, fantastic staff, spacious and very comfortable rooms, excellent,if limited, food. Would definitely choose and recommend Villa Campomaggio if staying in Chianti
Review 17:nice rooms but you could hear neighbors very limited offer for dinner (but still good quality) -> need for car not so clean bathroom. Black hairs on the floor for 2 days - we are both blond.
Review 18:-Great location in the middle of the wine fields -very helpful staff -clean hotel -nice pool with good temperature
Review 19:Actually it's not a problem, but to go to this hotel you will need to rent a car. The highway is great, with good traffic signals, but with a lot of curves - plan to arrive there during the day...
Review 20:amazing everything :) Loved the hotel, location, facilities, staff, breakfast and the food. Really encourage you to book if you want an amazing experience in Tuscany. Besides, close to the main cities in the region as Siena, San Giminiano, Montalcino, etc.
Review 21:Not a bad experience per say but a few opportunity areas: the bed was very uncomfortable; the blow dryer in the bathroom was very outdated; should note in advance that the hotel address cannot be found via a gps to avoid guests getting lost or frustrated
Review 22:Nice location in Tuscany. Easy to get to small towns and Florence. Hotel is beautifully decorated and grounds are stunning. Hotel food at dinner was delicious. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Review 23:Location... if you don't have a car you are stuck, there isn't anything close by that is walking distance. The restaurant/bar is very minimal, only open at certain hours during the day, if you didn't rent a car/scooter than you have no other choice, I would assume if there is nothing close by they would have better restaurant facilities. There isn't much to do there, we spent our days by the pool and reading on the hammock but beware of the bee's as they are everywhere! It's a beautiful estate but it needs a lot of work, the staff are fine but not all that helpful, it could be an amazing place to stay if they added a few features including some exploring options, maybe hiring push bikes for the day, etc.
Review 24:A great place to relax and unwind, loved that it was in the middle of Chianti, such beautiful surroundings! Amazing wine with local cheeses and cured meats.
Review 25:There were ants in the room. After bringing this to their attention they used chemicals which solved the problem for only one day and the ants returned the following night. Very disappointing! Also the bed was very uncomfortable.
Review 26:The location was great and the staff were very friendly.
Review 27:The room we stayed in was quite dark and had a funny drainage smell. It was right above the outside breakfast area so we were awake at 8 am in the morning because of people having breakfast even though we shut all the windows and blinds.
Review 28:My husband and I really liked the views and the pool area. The hotel building itself was very beautiful
Review 29:We were very disappointed that our room had a very strong smell of cigarette smoke which we were unable to remove
Review 30:We loved the location, the setting and the view and also the pool
Review 31:Dining options at the hotel or limited
Review 32:The location is beautiful. The pool next to the vineyards is incredible. We really liked the room. The breakfast was amazing.
Review 33:It would have been nice if the self serviced apartments had a few more amenities. But this is just being picky.
Review 34:The location, facilities, staff are all lovely. If you can make it here definitely stay here. Can't wait to return! We had such an amazing time!
Review 35:thought we had a mountain view and we didn't We ordered a taxi at the end of our stay. The order was forgotten and we missed our train . Expensive taxi followed.
Review 36:the facility was decorated beautifully with lowers and greens. Staff was very pleasant
Review 37:Food, breakfast selection could be better especially fruit and meats which are not of a good quality compared to other hotels in the area. Either do food in the evening well or don't bother at all, ran out of lots of items, only 2 young members of staff left to run the evening food. We and others waited over 1 hour just to place orders. Wi-fi falls out from time to time.
Review 38:Pool area is great, well situated. Service from reception to excellent, extremely helpful booking restaurants etc. For a young person so organised.
Review 39:We arrived very late in evening and got a nice upgrade. The room is spacious and well decorated. Under the moonlight, a light dinner with a glass of Chianti wine was so romantic. And.... the view from the garden is just marvelous. We will definitely come back for a longer stay:)
Review 40:Nothing
Review 41:Room was excellent and had a huge terrace overlooking the grounds. Great pool with stunning views. Staff were exceptional in assisting us to book restaurants for dinner and cooking classes. Prefect place to relax and unwind, we loved it and didn't want to leave!
Review 42:Needed to contact hotel after reception had closed so called the emergency numbers, but no answer. Subsequent reason given was poor cell phone reception. Our call was not life and death - but what if it was? Our self-catering apartment did not really have enough items for the four occupants - e.g. only two wine glasses provided - really - in the Chianti area!
Review 43:Staff (especially Chiara) excellent - provided very useful info for excellent restaurants, places to go, renting bikes, etc. Ambiance, buildings, patios, grounds very pleasant. Convenient location for visiting local towns.
Review 44:Wireless very poor, but wasn't too surprised considering we were out in the country.
Review 45:The views, the facilities were lovely, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The 2 bedroom apartment was a good size and worked well for our family of 4. Good location to take day trips.
Review 46:The shower was a relic of the 90's. The bathroom needs a walk-in shower with space for 2 people. Nice to have a bidet though.
Review 47:The location, the terrace, the pool, the delightful and expert staff. Perfect.
Review 48:The Villa does not claim to have a fully functioning kitchen for providing dinner. However, a pasta & salad type of menu is offered. Although reasonably priced, it was not very good, which is a shame given that the terrace upon which breakfast and dinner are served is so pleasant.
Review 49:The whole package was a great experience. We used the Villa as a base to explore the Region, which worked very well,Staff were very helpful in making recommendations.
Review 50:Great front office staff! Extremely helpful and patient. Chiara & Judy at the front desk attended to our every need. They were extremely warm and competent. The F&B team were pretty good as well.
Review 51:According to the daily programme displayed in reception a 'light dinner' is served from 19h30. We sat down to have dinner just before 19h30 and were told that we could not order yet as they were 'very busy' and 'there were only 2 people who had to cook and serve the food'. Eventually (almost 90 minutes later!) our order was taken. When we wanted to bring this to the attention to the owner/ manager upon check out, he was extremely rude and shouted at us that 'this is not a restaurant' 'if you want to have service like restaurant, you must go to a restaurant'. Only problem is that Villa Campomaggio is quite a distance from the nearest reataurant- definitey not on a road you want to travel at night! One of the reasons we chose to stay here, is because we would not have to go anywhere. Well, apparently not. Unfortunately no setting (however beautiful) will ever compensate for bad attitude or service.
Review 52:Beautiful setting - little oasis in the heart of Tuscany.
Review 53:The room we were given had a broken shower and the air conditioner did not work. The staff was aware of the problems but still rented the room. The manager was not on site and could not be reached to resolve the issue. The breakfast was not fresh and did not taste good
Review 54:The staff was very nice and provided excellent recommendations for dinner.
Review 55:It would have been appropriate to supply wine gasses in the apartments (but we were able to get some from the bar without a problem)
Review 56:Superb resort with friendly and efficient staff. Magnificent pool and spa. Idyllic environment. Only wish we could have stayed longer than the 3 days we were there.
Review 57:Apartment was great but the bed was a bit firm (but probably authentic Tuscan style??). Restaurant very convenient with tasty ham and cheese but you will find better pasta in the surrounding area.
Review 58:Can't emphasise enough how friendly and attentive the service was here from the excellent staff - informal but impeccable. The location is breathtaking with the option of a fairly private or communal experience with a number beautiful of spots around the hotel grounds for you to take in the sights over a glass of wine. You're also surrounded by places within easy reach for great dining or winetasting trips, but it is also tempting to while away the hours around the hotel itself. This was the best hotel experience we've ever had.
Review 59:The staff were so amazing. Nothing was too much bother. They helped us with our day trips through personal experience and gave us recommendations for wine tasting I the area. All in all a fantastic place and I would stay there again.
Review 60:My friend and I loved everything about this property! We really enjoyed the spa, the beautiful views, the onsite bar which also served the best pasta I've ever had in my life! The breakfast cost extra but was fabulous and well worth it. The staff were incredibly nice and handled our reservations and provided lots of recommendations for everything we wanted to do in the area. I certainly plan to return.
Review 61:The bathroom had only a bathtub and taking a shower without flooding the bathroom was a challenge.
Review 62:Very nice and welcoming staff. Great service. Charming villa.
Review 63:We had to ask for robes, that were immediately provided
Review 64:I'm going to publish it in the booking reviews Excellent staff, very attentive and helpful. Old Tuscan villa, surrounded by the impressive Chianti vineyards, hills and cypresses. Fantastic room with sunbed terrace with direct view to the vineyard, a truly amazing waking up! It was our first wedding anniversary and the staff surprised us with complimentary cocktails by the pool area. Nice Spa with jacuzzi, Etruscan and Turkish baths and a wide range of massages. Superb stay! Totally recommended!
Review 65:The staff was not accommodating. They failed to provide a willingness and a sensitivity to our needs. I think this reflects a lack of maturity on their part.
Review 66:The property was beautiful. The location was excellent.
Review 67:- Nothing really!! Exsceptional- if you go to Tuscany... you need to stay there!!! - only thing would be more consistency in the making of the plates (but still amazing). We ordered 2 plates of pasta... the best we ever ate it Italy and reordered the next day and the recepe was completly different... BUT.. still good!
Review 68:- Staff is so nice!!- Food is delicious! - Spa spa spa :-) - So romantic - Wine tasting everyday - Wineries close by
Review 69:Nothing.
Review 70:Everything at the Villa was great. Bautifull surroundings and the villa itself looks great. Spacious and clean. The staff where very helpfull and nice. Would stay here again!
Review 71:All good
Review 72:The staff was great starting with Laura at check in. Everyone was very helpful and never tired of our asking for assistance for restaurants, wineries or directions. Even the morning breakfast staff had smiles and were very attentive. I selected this hotel because of the reviews from other guests. We were so happy we did. The hotel was lovely, comfortable, in a beautiful setting, very clean spa and our Jr. Suite were exceptional. We will diffenetly return on our next trip.
Review 73:More selections on their dinner and lunch menu.
Review 74:This is a hidden treasure! The staff is amazing. The property is so beautiful. We went in September and the property was fully booked. We still felt like we were the only ones there.
Review 75:Take mosquito repellant! No complaints about the facilities themselves.
Review 76:Situated in a beautiful part of Tuscany, the villa itself has stunning views and great facilities (two terraces, pool, thermal spa, restaurant, bar, sitting room). A great place to base yourself for a few days driving around Chianti. Special mention to Ilir who went out of his way to make our stay pleasant.
Review 77:The views are spectacular and the accommodations immaculate. My husband broke his leg on our trip and the staff was extraordinary! I can't say enough about the wonderful staff!
Review 78:Was a bit hard to find, but well worth the extra time. (Only got lost one night coming back late from Radda.) Rooms could use a little more light (lamps).
Review 79:staff was gracious and very intent on making our stay one we would remember for a long time. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Food was great and the breakfast was more than I could ask for. Will definitely stay again and hopefully longer than three nights!
Review 80:Having to leave again......
Review 81:We have thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days in this little paradise. Beautiful location, very quiet and peaceful, well groomed gardens. A special mention to the young and professional team, fulfilling their job with a charming and personal touch. Good advice to typical restaurants in reachable distance.
Review 82:My boyfriend and I had a wonderful two nights here & would have loved to have stayed for longer. Beautiful place with excellent service. The stuff was helpful and friendly. We will definitely come back!
Review 83:As we weren't comfortable going out to dinner, we had dinner at the Villa. The selection was limited and not up to the standard set by the location and facilities.
Review 84:We loved our room and the Villa in general.
Review 85:No faults
Review 86:An old secluded and beautiful, refurbished Toscan mansion with modern facilities. Huge space with a nice garden and pool. Very friendly staf. Good breakfast.
Review 87:the junior suite view to the parking was a bit weird... air conditioning was controlled from the lobby, the rooms were too warm! no shower in one of the bathrooms, only bathtub
Review 88:The villa is very nice as it's the location, we booked a room for me and my husband and another one for my 24 yo daughter...both rooms were nice, one was a junior suite on the attic but both overlooked the parking on the side of the hotel beautiful garden and pool surrounded by beautiful vineyard
Review 89:It's a little hard to find, as it is on a gravel road off the SP2bis, Just look for the river PESA and the entrance is right where it crosses. However, just use these GPS coordinates and you will be fine: North 43 -30.331 and East 11 -19.948.
Review 90:This is a true villa with all the amenities, including beautiful grounds, a nice pool, spa, and restaurant. Irir, his wife, and Chiara do an outstanding job of making every aspect of your stay special. And the food - wonderful and reasonable. I can not thank ILIR enough for his hospitality and service to the the guests. We will be back for a WEEK next time!!!
Review 91:I can't imagine there is a better place to stay in the Chianti region. The hotel is gorgeous, the rooms are spectacular, and the spa is absolutely luxurious. The staff is outstanding and attentive. Breakfast was delicious. The location is quite convenient to some fabulous vineyards and to great towns with awesome restaurants.
Review 92:Limited choice for breakfast
Review 93:Location couldn't have been more scenic, the staff were all excellent nothing was too much trouble and the storm we had during the week that presented us with a huge rainbow added to the photographic quality of the surrounds.
Review 94:Nothing major but if you dont like a big step out of a bath, make sure you have a room with a shower. Take your own hire dryer too.
Review 95:The friendly helpful staff. A great pool in lovely surroundings. I did not want to leave.
Review 96:very nice stay in beautiful villa with the beautiful vineyard view. We highly appreciate the professional and very warm behavior of your staff who made our stay memorable. Once we are back in Chianti area we'd love to stay in this hotel again.
Review 97:We absolutely loved it! My wife and I stay at Villa Campomaggio for a few days in August and found the location and the hotel very beautiful, and the staff was fantastic. Being located right in the vineyards was very romantic, but at the same time it was also a family friendly atmosphere. We enjoyed all aspects of this unique resort including the spa, pool, restaurant and the views.
Review 98:The grounds are beautiful surrounded with flowers and vineyards. There is a lovely pool. The staff is excellent and attentive. Thre is a daily 6:30PM wine tasting with a very nice antipasto spread. The room was large and comfortable. A nice breakfast was also included.
Review 99:A wonderful location, beautifully appointed rooms, very clean, a nice pool, good light meals offered at lunch and dinner. The staff was most friendly, respectful and accommodating.
Review 100:We were the second time in Villa Campomaggio and we know that it is the best place in Chianti for us. We were in many hotels in whole Tuscany and Villa Campomaggio is wonderful and we already miss this place. Great, clean room, beautiful view, SPA and swimming pool, extremely nice and helpful staff. Thank you for the room it was really great. I hope we will see in the next year. Best Regards Agata & Rafael
Review 101:We had a 2 bedroom apartment that was just a little bare in furnishings and comfort. It could use some rugs and better beds. Our bed was very hard. Our friends stayed in a room in the hotel and was very happy with their room.
Review 102:People are amazed when I show them pictures of the Villa. It was so beautiful! The staff where attentive to our every need and very friendly. I would definitely stay there again.
Review 103:The lack of personal service, it seemed like the staff where only there to over see the property. Very little interaction.
Review 104:The Villa was excellent just what you want being in Tuscany. A good location to travel around.
Review 105:Grazie a tutti to the wonderful staff of Villa Campomaggio! The food was exceptional, true Tuscan style The staff were warm and friendly and made us feel like family The property was exquisite and the pool was such a wonderful escape during the hot summer afternoons The views were more beautiful than any movie or picture of Tuscany! The location is exceptional, convenient to Florence, Siena, and so many lovely towns dotted throughout Chianti. I can't say enough about this gem...other than we'll be staying again next year!
