Reviews for Iris
Review 1:The breakfast one day had cold hard boiled eggs-the eggs had been brought out from the refrigerator leftover from the previous morning, it seemed. The other days had hot boiled eggs-much better.
Review 2:Great location and easy walk to city center. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 3:I recommend a little bit of variation for breakfast, it would be nice if you stay for few days.
Review 4:the house is impressive and from terrace the view is outstanding. We had two double rooms, one of them quite small but this didn't bother me, we only used it for sleep. everything is very clean and we had our towels changed every day. Staff was nice as well. breakfast was fine, it contained eggs, salami, pressed cheese, cereals, yoghurt, croissants, juice, apples and as many coffees as desired:)
Review 5:They put us in a room just next to the hall, and underneath the stairs that lead to the first floor, so we could hear the people outside the hotel, the people in the hall and the people going up and down the stairs, just as if they were in our room!! Plus the bed for two people was made with two single beds put one next to the other and they got separated very very often.
Review 6:Very kind staff and good location
Review 7:The sound proof is not good, you can clearly hear the noise from other people at the hall way.
Review 8:Convenient area, the elevator up to the city centre is just behind the hotel.
Review 9:Parking was a joke, the Hotel did have a small car park but we were given no advice on how to get to it and due to road works this was very difficult. The hotel looks very tired and to be honest felt more like a hostel. The room was very small but clean. The facilities were not at all what I expected. We were on the ground floor which was very noisy from 5.30am due to the kitchen being so close, this also caused the sickly smell of cooking pastries at this hour. We had booked to stay for 2 nights but decided to move on after 1 night.
Review 10:The location of the Hotel was good as it was a short walk into the old town.
Review 11:The hotel is really great situated if you want to visit the city center. The room was really big, clean and it had a really great view. The staff was really, really friendly and helpful.
Review 12:The breakfast wasn't much tasty but you're free to buy it or not.
Review 13:The hotel is situated very near to the historical center. The room was clean and cosy. The building is the old and beautiful palace.
Review 14:Would like in room tea & coffee making facility. Hotel generally tired and worn out ambience. They could not process my credit cards so had to pay cash which was not what was advertised.
Review 15:Lack of air conditioning in the middle of very hot July made it hard to sleep, some broken things in the bathroom
Review 16:Location, helpful staff, interesting building, large rooms, availability of parking
Review 17:Nothing, stay was very good and we plan to return again soon.
Review 18:Superb staff, location. Beautiful old villa style property. A good place to stay to visit the underground fortress caverns below Piazza Italia.
Review 19:It is not a criticism, but do not expect alift or elevator.
Review 20:The hotel dates back to the 1800, but is comfortable, with a nice feeling and the bathroom was modern in style, recently renovated, while the room had a frescoed ceiling in the style of a noble palace. The staff was friendly and helpful, the wireless worked fine, the breakfast was not expensive and very good. there is an ample terrace with gazebo and chairs where you can have your breakfast surrounded by lovely flowers and breathtaking panorama over Perugia and surrounding areas. The hotel has a restaurant nearby where you can have meals. we did not go there so can't tell about the food, but it is convenient if you do not want to go afar. The hotel is also near to a bus stop where you can take R or A line to go to Fontivegge Perugia train station and to minimetro.
Review 21:The furniture on the terrace was quite old and the facade of the palazzo needs redecorating.
Review 22:The staff was friendly, breakfast was ol, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the center is only 5 minutes away.
Review 23:Payed parking 10 eur per day, but at least you have a parking place which is very difficult to find.
Review 24:It has a great location just at the doorsteps of the historic old town next to the escalators but also a nice short uphill walk to the center. The building is a historic one very old it needs a restoration, the terrace is exellent and has a great view. Rooms and toilet are clean, average but nice. Generally it is a really great value for the money. Good morning offer coffee and croissants for 2 eur. It has a parking lot.
Review 25:though we did enjoy our staying there...maybe, it is time to make some refurbishment (out of the room, the corridor and the exterior)
Review 26:staff: polite and helpful price: really reasonable room itself: nice view, clean, decoration (paintings) location: really not far from the very center
Review 27:The breakfast selection was not good and good served in a tiny room that seemed like a cellar. Cappuccino was good!
Review 28:The location is excellent! Few minutes walking to the city center. The building is a beautiful old building. Staff was very friendly and everything was clean. Bathrooms are upgraded and nice.
Review 29:It is not so close to the train station, you should get a taxi to go there, but the taxi is cheap, you can go there by 10 euros
Review 30:I liked the location, very close to the bus station. The bedroom was very good too, very clean and the bathroom was perfect. The breakfast is amazing, you can found everything you want to.
Review 31:Very small single room, to cold room with no glass in between the wooden curtains (cause it is cold in Perugia during winter-I heard), very noisy, aditional breakfast very low :/
Review 32:Nice and well english speaking personel, good location in the center, good price, beautiful old building, hairdryer in the room
Review 33:Frequent WiFi disconnection. Very poor noise insulation from the street.
Review 34:Friendly staff. Good location close to historic center. Very good value for money.
Review 35:lots of blankets for sleeping but room too cold in the winter. single radiator doesn't cut if
Review 36:wifi very fast breakfast decent, though orange juice is fake sugar chemical synthetic drink and no hot food staff friendly location amazing - 5 mins from main bus and regional train station, 10 from mini metro to trenitaila station and main old town really clean
Review 37:Noise level for sensitive persons may be problem in some (few) moments.
Review 38:-Staff. -My training took place in the Old Town. Escalator to the old town begins 50 steps from the Hotel Iris. I did not buy a ticket, but within 5 minutes I was at the top, without shortness of breath. -Spirit of old times is well preserved in IRIS.
Review 39:We found the location to be very convenient and very close to the escalator to the upper town. The bus station was around the corner which made it easy to travel to other towns, and to get to the train station. The hotel staff was most helpful! We appreciated the advice they could give us about how to get around and the restaurant recommendations. The hotel is old but inexpensive and our room was simple but clean. The bed was very comfortable. The wifi worked best in the main lobby or out on their huge, lovely terrace. We would definitely stay there again.
Review 40:We took up the optional extra breakfast, which was a mistake. You'd get better value just a few minutes away in the centre of Perugia.
Review 41:Excellent location, clean modern room and helpful staff.
Review 42:Nothing.
Review 43:Hotel iris is worth to lodge in. This place, that has been a palacewhere the composer Richard Wagner has been staying, is a very inspiringand nice place with nice comfortable clean restored rooms and newbathrooms.there is even wifi.to go to the centre, is quite easy with theescalator throught the old "borgo".good breakfastbuffet andvery good restaurant.good kind reception by Marissa.
Review 44:Though the building is beautifull, it has seen better days. Everything inside (besides the bathroom) is a bit run down. The hotel is situated next to a busy street and the windows are old, as a result at times it sounds like you are sleeping next to a highway. Parking your car costs you 10€ a day.
Review 45:The location was good and it is all set in a beautifull building. The rooms are clean and the wifi was free and fast. The bathroom was new and well-integrated in the old room.
Review 46:could use some repair work to the physical architecture
Review 47:Iris hotel was very basic, had some lovely historical detailing, has not been 'tarted up' you have sense of its history
Review 48:Staff were extremely nice and helpful! Hotel is basic but has character. Very good value for money! We were only going to stay one night but we liked it so much we stayed two.
Review 49:Nothing
Review 50:Close to city center and private parking
Review 51:No problems
Review 52:Room was spacious and so was the bathroom
Review 53:Beatiful building and friendly staff

Review 59:The breakfast room in the basement
Review 60:Very nice place to stay, old glory of Perugia, friendly staf and renewed bathroom
Review 61:No bad experience
Review 62:Very comfortable room in a lovely old building but with modern convenience. Very central and easy to get to city centre
Review 63:The location was excellent
Review 64:Friendly, helpful staff on arrival. Nothing too much trouble. Beautiful bedroom with a lovely bathroom. Couldn't fault it at all.
Review 65:Beautifully painted ceiling, friendly staff and amazing terrace with great view to eat breakfast on.
Review 66:Pictures of the hotel is a bit misleading, the room were a bit small.
Review 67:clean, elegant:)
Review 68:wi-fi didn't work in our room. hot room and no air-con.
Review 69:Closeness to the old town, the terrace, the staff
Review 70:Location was perfect. Room and bathroom were really clean.
Review 71:Cannot fault it.
Review 72:Good location helpful friendly staff. Spacious room . New bathroom. Huge terrace for lounging. Nice breakfast.
Review 73:The staff was very helpful. The service level is like the biggest chains. Was not the biggest room but was the biggest hearth.
Review 74:Location is optimal for visit city very nice historic building Breakfast was OK and very low price (5€/p) Room very cheap.
Review 75:Very good services for reasonable prices. I recommend this hotel when visiting Perugia and Umbria.
Review 76:They need more efficient heating. Temperature in the room was bearable, but not super comfortable.
Review 77:Good location. Interesting room.
Review 78:Location
Review 79:wifi range
Review 80:decoration, staff accomodation, cleaningness
Review 81:The location was perfect for us, travellers with a car. The stuff was very helpfull and attentive.
Review 82:Very noisy all night poor sleep bed uncomfortable
Review 83:Great location
Review 84:Noisy traffic late into the night Very hot room in mid August
Review 85:Great location Quirky rooms Very helpful staff Terrace Parking
Review 86:- Trip from airport to Perugia-city
Review 87:- Free WiFi - Location near town-centre - English speaking personnel - Clean bed- and bathroom
Review 88:Despite the first impression, the hotel it's simply unique, a bit of a magic runs in this place: an old villa with the flavors of time past! Extraordinary position and location! Just a few steps from the old town!
Review 89:Hotel needs renovation but the staff is so helpfull and kind that they make a lot good.
Review 90:perfect location to visit Perugia, very friendly staff, nice to be able to sit outside.
Review 91:Don't walk from the train station, stupidest thing I did in Italy. You basically are climbing up a steep mountain.
Review 92:The view from the front terrace was unreal. The bedroom and private bathroom were clean. The front desk was helpful and friendly. We loved Perugia and a lot of it had to do with this hotel. The free escalators transport you to the old part of the town, they are directly behind the hotel which was amazing.
Review 93:Since it was a bit cold and stormy outside, i would have appreciated more heat in the room, but we had extra blankets and it all finally worked out just well.
Review 94:the location of the hotel is excellent, close to the historic center, to the main sights, only 15 minutes stroll from the Roca Paolina, close to the bus station and to the main bus stops - Piazza Partigiani (where the shuttle from the St Egidio airport stops), close to many nice pastry, restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a delicious meal. The rooms are stunning, high painted ceilings, spacious, spotless clean, warm. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The wifi was ok as well. The hotel has a beautiful terrace and a splendid little rose garden with palm trees.
Review 95:Hotel is in great location at the foot of the city of Perugia. Eventhough the place definitely has a sort of "faded glory" to it,it is comfortable and worth the price.
Review 96:No fault of hotel but Perugia is confusing for first time visitor. Could you give walking instructions from top of mini metro
Review 97:Lovely room, lots of nice fluffy towels, brand new bathroom, comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent as well. Superb value. Would definitely stay there again.
Review 98:The whole hotel had the air of faded grandeur and was rather run down. Flaking paint, broken shutters, dripping taps etc. the room was dark and rather cold. On site parking seemed pricey at €10.
Review 99:The position on the edge of town.
Review 100:We got cold inthe bed! Old windows got windy inside with 4 M.high wallsrooms we're freezing. They didn't heat all day. It's notenough enough to heat only few hours at night in cold wheather.Everybody prefer only for summer!
Review 101:Walking distance to escalator 3 minutes, 2 minutes to bus station, little far from train station(16 E.by taxi) very old but clean rooms andrenovated bathrooms.
Review 102:A lovely place with friendly staff. It's a great location 5 minutes walk to the gates of the old town. Decor is very nice. If we'd been there in the summer we'd have enjoyed lovely terrace but enjoyed our stay just the same!
Review 103:You could tell where there used to be a chandelier because there was still a chain hanging down with a electrical cable attached to it.
Review 104:The location was great with a nice view of the 3 Arches of Perugia. It has a nice location and accommodations as well as a fresco that completely covered the ceilings. The beds were extremely comfortable and the hotel had plenty of room for our family of 4.
Review 105:My room was freezing. It was November and there was no insulation above me so as soon as the heat was turned off the temperature plummeted. Also during the day the room was cold until the heat came on at 19.30 in the evening.
Review 106:Iris is in a beautiful building excellently located to the town. The room was large, bright, wonderful view, clean, good bathroom. Staff were energetic and helpful. Breakfast, though not provided in the cost was good and a small coffee/pastry option was available and worth the money.
Review 107:Very nice ladies at the reception, helpful, both with very nice Englishwhich is rather rare in Perugia. Very nice hotel location-extremelyclose to the Bus Terminal and to the escalators leading to the heart ofthe city in a few minutes 6:15-2:00
Review 108:nothing
Review 109:Great value accommodation within ten minutes walk ( uphill - but not a problem - if you don't like hills don't go to Umbria !) to main city features. We stayed on an extra nignywe liked it so much !
Review 110:Breakfast basic for 6€, and wasn't ready at all as scheduled at 8 am on our last morning when we needed to leave on time for the train.
Review 111:Close to the old city via the massive escalator located just behind the hotel. Old world charm, slightly decaying grandeur.
Review 112:“Hotel Iris” is located in an old, artistic palace and in the sametime the hotel is very comfortable for one pleasant tourist sojourn. In the rooms the visitors can enjoy to original frescoes on theceilings. The hotel is situated in the heart of Perugia, close to theentrance of the elevators, that lead to Pope Paul's Fortress andto main street of the town-Corso Vanucci. The staff is very kindly andhelpful to the guests. The hotel has private, secure parking, that isvery good for drivers.
Review 113:Excellent location - escalators to the historic centre, through the Etruscan "underground" were right behind the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, with reliable (free) wifi. Car parking at €10 a day is good considering the tariffs outside the hotel were €1,90 an hour. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 114:Room was small and I did not really feel that I am staying in a palace ( no fresco on the walls). With the renovation the full point of the building lost.
Review 115:Location is extremely good, few minutes from the center ,from train station is a hard walking unfortunately. Staff was very kind. Bathroom was very spacious.
Review 116:Stuff was overloaded since one person had to serve breakfast and check out at same time. Breakfeast was also limited if you dont like sweets.
Review 117:Stuff was very friendly to store our mtb bikes in hotel and recommend us some sighseeing spots.
Review 118:I would not recommend paying extra for the breakfast. The cappucino andcornetto offer (2 Euro) is much better value for money. The room we werein had no air conditioning. It was ok for early june, but in latermonths this might proove to be a problem.
Review 119:The hotel is great. The room was clean and comfortable, the stafffriendly. The building retains its period features and it has a castlelike feeling. This was the house of Richard Wagner at one time. It isvery close to all major sites. Great value for money!
Review 120:On booking parking was indicated as free, we had to pay additional 10euros. Also were lured into breakfast by the promise of hot eggs andcold cuts, but there were no eggs, and only one kind of salami ( nocheese). Although a lots of rolls and decent croissants.
Review 121:Location!!! Renovated bathrooms
Review 122:Breakfast was a bit of a let down especially as it was an extra cost.
Review 123:Loved the whole ambiance of the building, view and location of this little gem. Staff were wonderful. Room was basic, which we knew when we booked, but spotless. Location was superb in that the bus station was less than five minutes walk away and the escalators to the main square were even closer. No traffic noise at all. Terrace was fantastic and the gardens were so peaceful.
Review 124:The buffet breakfast cost an extra 5 eu per person but did not have many choices. After the first day we declined to pay for the buffet and just had coffee and fresh croissants - a better deal. It also seemed like a lot to have to pay 10 eu a night extra for parking.
Review 125:We chose the Iris because of the reasonable price and the pictures of the wonderful old building which still retains a lot of its faded glory. We stayed for three night and used the hotel as a base for exploring some of the hill towns of Umbria and Tuscany. It was fun to stay just outside the medieval city in such an splendid building, and to enjoy our morning coffee on the terrace. The staff are very friendly and helpful
Review 126:Not exactly luxurious but then you wouldn't expect it for the price - the plumbling and the door were all a bit noisy. Breakfast was good value but boring - we stayed for 9 nights; it would have been all right for a couple of nights.
Review 127:The location. We used public transport to get around Umbria and found the hotel ideal for both stations and buses - it was also easy to get up to the historical centre from there. It's faded elegance. Iris restaurant next door was very good value for money. Good food and lovely owner.
Review 128:nothing, it was great.
Review 129:If you're into 4+ star amenities this probably wont appeal. If you dwell in the more interesting1-3 star world this is a gem. Nice bit of faded history, great location if driving in/out of town (and of course beside the escalators to the square), probably a good idea to secure a room facing out (lovely views - suspect the other side of the building is a little gloomier).
