Reviews for Hotel Okura Kobe

Review 1:The spa, sauna and steam room were closed for the day I was staying and nobody informed me even if I asked them how to go to the spa. The spa is at an inconvenient place, you have to go down many steps to get there even after getting off the elevator, only to find it is closed.

Review 2:Clean & comfy rooms with a view.

Review 3:Beautiful location at the harbour and an amazing view, especially at night. The staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast at the Camellia Room was an added extra but definitely worth it. Lovely china and cutlery and great food options (including eggs cooked for you in a variety of ways). We also had a lovely dinner at Mosaic which is a short walk away.

Review 4:The hotel is not that convenient to the city centre, but they provide free shuttle services every twenty minutes. On weekends and public holidays the shuttle even goes to Shin-Kobe, which worked well for us because we needed to catch the JR line on our date of departure.

Review 5:The service was excellent and the rooms are very spacious. It was a great view from the rooms. The hotel itself is very close the the harbour and the Kobe port tower.

Review 6:The hotel is superb nice. The staff are very good and service mind. Just as expect from the hotel of this rate. One of the staff who help us carried our bag to the room even ask if we want dishes for our cake (he saw us carry cake boxes). He just offered by himself which is really rare. We got the room of city/mountain view, it was good enough even though I expect that we would get the bay view. There is shuttle bus from Sannomiya Station which is really comfortable for tourist like us. You can even walk from the Harborland/Mosaic Mall on the other side of the bay with less than 10 minutes! Just walk along the bay is really nice feeling. Good view. Good wind. If we get a chance to go to Kobe again, we will definitely go back to Okura Hotel for our stay.

Review 7:Extra charge of 9.000 yen is a bit pricy for early check-in (but entirely my descision). Having said that I was deeply dissapointed about my request for room cleaning in the early evening. The bed was not made up, trash was still in the bins, astrey not emptied, bathroom not cleaned... nothing, I did just find 2 towels on the bed. taken this lack of service in account the 9.000 yen supplement for early check in was not justified. This is not was I expect in a 5* hotel and certainly never encountered in Japan. It is sad how 1 person's (lack of) service spoils the memory of a hotel that is "a grand old lady"

Review 8:The view from the hotel (overlooking the harbor) is whoooow !! Although the hotel is a bit old, the room was very tidy and clean. To Japanese standards, my room was huge !

Review 9:the hotel was quite old but the okura chain hotels are quite famous and popular in japan

Review 10:the view was superb! you could see the entire bay view which was very good :) we took the 16-18 floor which is not very high but you could still get a good view. good money spent :) very worthy

Review 11:Beautiful view of hotel' room I have ever seen. It's so clean and good quality: furthermore, staff' English speaking are good to ease many problem. I had many nice days there.

Review 12:Staff and rook guidance didn't know English. It's ridiculous for a five star hotel. Bed seems broken or very old.

Review 13:Good seaview hotel with shuttle bus from hotel to main station.

Review 14:none

Review 15:Very spacious and clean rooms. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the bathroom was really large. Staff was very helpful. View over Kobe harbor was incredible. The shuttle service from and to Kobe-Sannomiya is available all day and very convenient to get around.

Review 16:Overall good experience and nice staff. Breakfast was good, but choices were limited. It was a bit exepensive, but it was during the Luminarie event of Kobe. The location of the hotel is convenient, however the premises could be maybe a bit more glamour for those who go on foot to downtown Kobe. Nice view on the Port Tower.

Review 17:The view from 27th floor was absolutely breathtaking. Single room is spacious, amenities are good and service is excellent. Will absolutely visit again!

Review 18:Early check in has been too expensive and not indicated at arrival. Final price for the night has been higher than stated by booking.com. I had to correct them which took half an hour during check out

Review 19:No bad experiences.

Review 20:The staff were always eager to help. This is a well-appointed hotel and well organized. I used the concierge service a few times too. The meals were also excellent. It is easy to get around the city from the hotel especially with their courtesy bus service. Stunning view from the room.

Review 21:None

Review 22:The instruction to locate the shuttle bus in Sannomiya Mint Bldg is very easy to understand. Very informative. The service is very efficient and the driver is very friendly. The wifi throughout is very good. Good view of Kobe from the bedroom window. The bed is also very comfortable and the room very clean.

Review 23:A little out of center. No close places to have breakfast or something light to eat other than hotel which was very overpriced. Rug on our bedroom was stained and dirty.

Review 24:Very nice room size with great view. Wonderful staff!!

Review 25:nothing special except expensive breakfast.

Review 26:The hotel is at the perfect location next to the port tower. Wonderful view from the hotel. Nice staff, clean room. Everything was perfect.

Review 27:Gym and swimming pool need be charged to the guests and are quite expensive, facilities might be good but not accessable.

Review 28:Location is very nice of facing the sea. Staff is hospitable to offer help.

Review 29:No Newspaper in english for foreigners. No explanation about where Continental Breakfast is served (room or restaurant).

Review 30:Comfort of hotel and location

Review 31:you have to pay extra for wifi and the pool... When you are already spending a lot of money on the room, I think these things should come included.

Review 32:Nice room with a view of the city

Review 33:We don't expected someone would bring our luggages to room and the service is very good, most of the staff are able to speak English & polite. Room is tidy and have wonderful view to see. Even so, it is a little bit far from town if the hotel did not have the service of shuttle bus.

Review 34:Didn't ask if we parked in their structure. Had a surprise when we left. Had to pay ¥12,600. They will "validate" your parking ticket and the front desk and then you only have to pay ¥1,000.

Review 35:Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 36:Close to perfect. Friendly helpful staff, room with a fabulous view and an English paper under the door! We dined in the cafe and itvwas excellent too.

Review 37:Staff is so polite, kind and helpful that you feel always treated like a king. The view from rooms is tremendous and the quality of breakfast you get is so high compared to the price. Since we were here for our honeymoon, they also prepared for us surprises during our stay. My wife received fresh flowers when we got into our room for the first time and they also served us during breakfast a cake to wish us "happy wedding". Concierge staff helped us a lot, by suggesting where to go and what to do, booking restaurants for us and responding to every single question. We had initially booked just 3 nights here for our stay in Japan, but we decided to book 4 more nights and visit Himeji, Osaka and Nara traveling by train because we liked so much the hotel, the location (we loved walking at night at the Meriken park) and the staff. The Hotel also kept our second luggage when we traveled to Tokyo and Kyoto. When I will travel again to Asia, I will again stay at one of the Okura hotels. Incredible experience.

Review 38:Disappointed that I had to to pay for the gym and swimming pool - I have travelled a bit and always select a hotel which has fitness facilities - at Okura I would have had to pay over $AUD60 each day to enjoy the pool and the gym - quite out of our budget.

Review 39:The staff, the view, the facilities, the room - just about everything! We stayed for 3 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff were exceptionally helpful and thoughtful. The hotel is positioned on the beautiful harbour but only 10 minutes walk into the city - very handy to everything!

Review 40:THE MATTRESS IS MAKING SOUNDS WHEN YOU TURN... TOO SOFT FOR ME

Review 41:GREAT ALLOCATION. JUST HEARBY KOBE TOWER AND UMIE SHOPPING MALL. WALKING DISTANCE TO REACH ANPANMAN CHILDREN'S MUSEUM. MY KID LOVE THIS AREA THE MOST!

Review 42:Everything at the Okura Kobe Hotel is excellent, the staff is super kind and willing to help all the time, even on the most ridiculous worries you could have, their vocation of service is amazing and the location is just perfect. I would recommend to anyone staying at the Okura Kobe Hotel is something you definitely wont regret... I could say a lot more because it has been for me an amazing experience and I will be always be thankful for such an attention and service

Review 43:Can't believe this is a 5 star hotel. Old swimming pool comes at an extra charge which is unheard of in a 5 star hotel Last hotel refurbishment was done likely at some point in the 1970s.

Review 44:Free wifi

Review 45:Nothing

Review 46:If you would like to receive Japan's best hotel hospitality and professionalism, I would recommend Okura without a least hesitation. Staff education is almost perfect, far beyond other accommodations. The atomosphere is calm. Design of the lobby by Taniguchi is spacious and elegant which is seldom seen nowadays. Location and window view is also perfect.

Review 47:This is a full facilities Hotel at the prime location with a superb view of Kobe Harbor. All staffs are welcome and prompt to help you in English language from the Porter to Front Desk, Shop and Manager. Rooms are decorate with old formal hotel design but clean and comfort. If you are looking to stay at the Kobe Harbor, this hotel is my recommended.

Review 48:1. I booked a non-smoking room. When I checked in, I was told none was available. When I persisted, as sleeping in the smell of smoke is not possible, especially at this price, the desk person "found" a non-smoking room. He clarified that he had upgraded me. I felt that I was supposed to be especially appreciative? 2. I finally got to my room and decided to go to the bar for a glass of wine. It was 11.38pm. When I got to the bar, I was told it closed at 11.30pm. Sorry. That was it. No exception. I would have made it if my non-smoking room booked would have been available.

Review 49:Concierge advice re restaurants.

Review 50:There is no shuttle bus service departure from hotel to the train station between 08:05 am and 08:55 am.

Review 51:(1) Near the Kobe Tower and Kobe Port. (2) Free shuttle bus between the train station and hotel. (3) Good service quality hotel.

Review 52:There was a stain on the bath enamel. There was a minibar instead of a fridge. Services such as laundry were overpriced. The carpet has seen better times.

Review 53:A bed-side table with light switchers and other useful functions. The hotel building is tall and visible from different parts of the city. Nice view from the windows.

Review 54:I figured out on arrival 1 . The outdoor swimming pool opens only on the 18 July . 2 The indoor swimming pool as well as the gym are NOT free for hotel guest....

Review 55:Friendly staff.

Review 56:I appreciate being comforted but ladies carrying my heavy luggage is a no-go for me :)

Review 57:Great view from the room, bus shuttle to train station, variety of breakfast, great service

Review 58:Breakfast very expensive (we didn't have breakfast), no convinient store near by

Review 59:great view, big room, convenient location, friendly and smily staffs, warm welcome, free shuttle bus to Sannomiya station frequenly

Review 60:Happily extended our stay! Shuttle excellent for JR connection/subway & city centre. 5-10min Walk to Chinatown / Harbourland for Restaurants & Shopping. Exceptional Staff and facilities, although extra charges for gym etc. In-house restaurants little exy. Great Harbour views!!

Review 61:Nothing at all!! Highly recommend

Review 62:Fantastic Staff, Super efficient and great views of the Harbour. Walk to Subway - Shuttle to Trains - JR. Close to Chinatown & Harbourland for lots of shopping, restaurants, subway. Shuttle to City Centre Subway & JR Line very efficient! Looking forward to our next visit.

Review 63:That the gym and swimming pools had quite late opening times which made it difficult to exercise at the start or end of the day.

Review 64:I like the room! Comfortable with the right amenities inside!

Review 65:The shuttle bus ends a bit early for this hotel while it still continues for the other hotel which shares shuttle with Okura. Don't understand it since they are 5 minutes apart.

Review 66:The staff is fantastic, the shuttle is convenient, nice size room with beautiful view..everythings great. Didn't eat in the hotel, but judging by everything else it should be very good experience.

Review 67:location by the waterfront is perfect in terms of view, but the centre of town (chinatown, Shinkobe station) is a 15 min walk away. There's also a free shuttle bus to Sannomiya station if you don't feel like walking (25 min walk at least). Not a deal breaker, but will probably stay in the thick of it next time.

Review 68:staff, room, roomservice, overall look of the hotel

Review 69:Very comfortable hotel with nice bay view. Free shuttle bus from Sannomiya station and Hotel every 20 minutes. Walking distance to China Town. Newspaper provided every morning.

Review 70:Hotel facility is kind of old as the hotel age.... Bed and Blanket are not comfy. a bit of old smell in the room, not a bad smell though .... but could try to improve

Review 71:Bay View, easily access by Hotel Bus from Sannomiya station and Hotel, every 20 minutes, Better stated the schedule clearly in the hotel description!

Review 72:Only thing that can be considered negative is that guests have to pay for sauna/spa and swimming pool.

Review 73:Very helpful staff. Clean good beds, nice view of Kobe.

Review 74:Nothing really.

Review 75:This hotel is in a great location, next to the harbour but only 10 minutes leisurely walk to Chinatown. They provide frequent free shuttle bus from Sannomiya Station. The last bus leaving at 21:50. Most rooms have nice views of the city or harbour or both. Rooms are outdated but clean and well maintained. For the price and service, you can not really complain.

Review 76:Telephone number provided by booking.com is a wrong number!!! GPS guided us to somewhere far away from the hotel......

Review 77:The night view of Kobe Harbour is superb

Review 78:the breakfast buffet was indeed something that can be missed... may be a good idea to go to Sannomiya to find breakfast instead.

Review 79:The hotel room was very comfortable which made our stay delightful. The hotel shuttle to and from the Sannomiya station was very convenient.

Review 80:It would be lovely to have an espresso bar or somewhere to be able to purchase a coffee to go. The coffee offered in the room for ¥496 was terrible and the only other option was room service for ¥900.

Review 81:Loved that they had onions for more than two beds in a room. Room was spacious and so was bathroom. Views Slovakian was great. Wifi was wonderful.

Review 82:Reserved a non smoking room and were given a smoking room. After finding this out we went and asked if they could give us a nonsmoking room and were told there were none. We were told that they had 'deo-oderized the room so it should be fine'. It was not fine. It smelt like it had been smoked in every night for the last ten years. The room also looked like it. Horrible experience

Review 83:Nice view

Review 84:The room is not big as my expectation. The food of breakfast buffet is not too-many choices.

Review 85:The hotel facility is well-maintained. The room is clean.

Review 86:Having to check out.

Review 87:Superb courtesy bus staff deliver you to sumptuous reception. My room was a Sea View, an appartment size nearly. Good bar and short stroll to Mosaic/Mall, with the maritime Museum in between. Friendly and palatious, top marks on every aspect.

Review 88:The staff, the staff, the staff. Its like they are there at every turn to help you in any way possible, quickly and without hassle. Just trust me and stay at this hotel.

Review 89:- Bed had insects or ticks which gave my wife rashes - Other guests were rude - Nothing really around

Review 90:- Nice view of the harbor - Relatively big room for price - Free shuttle to shopping area

Review 91:There is no convenient store nearby and the bed can be more comfortable.

Review 92:We rent a car for our trip. The hotel has a car park just next to the hotel that is very convenient and it just costs ¥1,000 per day. The location is good and it takes only 10 mins walk to a umie Mosaic, a great shopping mall. It also has free shuttle bus to Sannomiya JR station. Our room has an excellent view of Kobe harbour. I also jogged in the Kobe harbour that was a marvelous experience!

Review 93:We've requested for a non-smoking room when we booked it a month before. However, the room is smoky hence they asked us to pay extra cost for a upgraded non-smoking room. It was quite dissapointing.

Review 94:Nice view, good price.

Review 95:Bed and pillows were nice, but comforter was thin and not warm. Bathroom floor flooded when I took a bath, then room smelled a little bad the next day, even after room cleaning. Not the first time that has happened, I suppose.

Review 96:The service was impeccable. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Nice view.

Review 97:Very nice location -- hotel is just by the port and our room had an overlooking view of the part, the Kobe Tower and the sea Quite convenient from Sannomiya station -- the shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes to and from Sannomiya JR station and the bus stop was very easy to find Hotel staff were extremely friendly, polite and helpful -- we were able to find our way very soon with the help Great decoration -- we stayed right at the beginning of the Christmas season when the beautiful and lovely christmas decorations were put on. The bouquet of preserved roses were amazing. In all, it has always been a pleasant experience staying at Okura (we stayed at Okura Kyoto last year and that was extraordinary as well)

Review 98:1) No shuttle bus provided from station to hotel as can't find information in website.

Review 99:1) Hotel is about 15 - 20 minutes walk to the shopping area. 2) Very professional, polite, and helpful staff 3) Location with excellent views 4) Room was very spacious but extra bed need a more quality ones

Review 100:Not the hotel's fault, but folks using google maps beware by car. Many tiered roads nearby made navigation a bit of an adventure. It's tall though. Fairly easy to find.

Review 101:Great view of the port from the 32nd floor. The room was nice and the staff were very courteous. The location is great. Near lots of things to do.

Review 102:Had a bad encounter with a staff. He assumed all Chinese-speaking guests are from a group, and thus insisted we dragged all our luggage across the hall for storage. In fact we were not part of the group we just wanted to deposit our luggage at the concierge. But this was my first and only bad experience with any hotel staff in Japan.

Review 103:The room is of good size and this makes it value for money.

Review 104:The hotel charge us around SGD8 a day for 2 bottles of mineral water. We thought it was complimentary. In total, the counter staff requested us to pay SGD16 for 4 bottles. Their restaurant food is expensive. We had better meals outside. Bedding is out of shape and I could not get a comfortable sleep.

Review 105:The room is big and the city view is nice.

Review 106:The location is nice if you like views but it's a cab ride away from many of the places we needed to go (they do have a shuttle to the downtown, though not, as someone else noted, to the Shin Kobe station where the bullet trains leave and arrive).

Review 107:This was the third Okura hotel I have stayed in and all are similar - spacious (both common areas and rooms), somewhat old-fashioned - seeing women in kimonos seems almost natural, and excellent staff assistance.

Review 108:Problem with turning off lights over bed resolved after 1 phone call, 2 visits, to be found on clock radio.

Review 109:We asked for a medium level for (12 to 18) but were elevated to 23rd corner room. Beautiful view of the harbour and the city north.

Review 110:No shuttle bus to Shin-Kobe station (Shinkansen) durning weekdays.

Review 111:Room had been upgraded to 30F beatiful sea & city view! Excellent location is just near the City Loop station. Large room in JP (37m2) Receptions can speak English fluently.

Review 112:The staffs are very polite and everyone is able to communicate very well in English. We arrive before the check in time but we are able to leave our bags with the bell captain and when we came back from our sightseeing at 9pm our bags has already been brought up into our rooms.

Review 113:Located a little away from the city central area but the regular bus shuttle service it provides to the city's central bus/train station more than makes up for that. My wife & I stayed seven nights in Okura during our recent travel in Japan and it was the most comfortable hotel we had during our 19 day travel. The hotel upgraded us to a more superior room on a higher floor than our original booking when we checked in. The room was large and comfortable with a limited but still great view of the harbor and city. The members of the staff were very courteous and helpful and although language was a bit of a problem they tried their best to find answers to our questions and requests. Although located away from the city centre we were able to use the very frequent shuttle bus service provided to get to the city and the bus/train station quite easily. With this service we were able to visit the city's tourist attractions, sites and other interesting places without too much problems. We were also able to make day trips with our JR train Pass to other cities including Kyoto & Osaka and get back to the hotel before nightfall. We must make special mention of the following staff members who were very helpful in helping us identify and locate various places of interest to us such as well known Kobe beef restaurants, local pubs/bars (izakaya), jazz clubs and public onsens in Kobe etc:- Mr Hiroshi Murakoshi(Senior Assistant Manager), Mr Noboru Koyama(Assistant Manager), Mr Masahiko Furukawa(Assistant Manager) & Ms Hayuna Yoda(Ms Hayuna Yoda speaks very good English and helped clarify a great deal of situations and questions for us). We enjoyed stay during our travel in Japan from Osaka to Tokyo to Hakone to Hakodate in Hokkaido and back south to Kobe but our most comfortable stay must be in Hotel Okura Kobe. We shall most certainly stay in Okura again if we visit Kobe again.

Review 114:We loved every thing. Thanks.

Review 115:we loved the hotel location, top view, very clean, best bed and pillows. Best concierge desk guy ever. The kind mature man he at concierge was very helpful and very patient, He had all information that we needed. the hotel in general was excellent! just 10 min from kobe train station.

Review 116:A 80's hotel. I think back then was a good hotel. Not anymore with today's standards. It seems old and worn tough not bad views. Its also a little away from things.

Review 117:Views.

Review 118:The bed was a little firm, but I guess to be expected.

Review 119:Staff went above and beyond their call of duty, all very helpful, even the room service were excellent.

Review 120:very helpful staff with perfect English knowledge (receptionist was very supportive in helping with a problem and restaurant recommendations etc); hotel is impressing and part of Kobe skyline

Review 121:Sheets were really stiff and uncomfortable. Have to pay to use the coffee maker in the room.

Review 122:Great view of the harbor, well maintained interiors. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Review 123:All the restaurants in the hotel were too expensive. A budget, or mid priced restaurant would have been the icing on the cake for this stay.

Review 124:Although we hadn't paid for the refurbished rooms, the young lady at check in upgraded us free on charge. The shuttle bus to the train station is very convenient. Approx every 20 minutes. It's possible to walk also.

Review 125:Without advertising it clearly, you need to pay extra for using the sauna. Of course it's an expensive place for food too.

Review 126:Staff and service is beyond excellent. Wonderful staff, very clean, spacious lobby, works like clockwork, elevator interiors I will never forget, bedroom spacious and comfortable, good beds (a bit hard), good views, good location next to Harborland, good sauna facilities, swimming costume rental services, and I'm sure they do good weddings too. Good wifi and shuttle service to town.

Review 127:I ordered pasta for my starving daughter and it took too long for them to bring it to our room. The bar refused to allow me to bring a glass of wine back to my room and room service only sold bottles of wine. When we asked the bell hop about the outdoor pool at 4:30 pm he only told us the location. When we arrived at 5:10 pm, we were told we had to enter the outdoor pool by 5 pm. We were forced to pay full price for our two young children to.use the indoor pool, whereas they would have been free, had we been allowed to enter the outdoor pool. Had we been informed, we would have rushed to the outdoor pool in time.

Review 128:The staff were generally very helpful

Review 129:There was an outside pool which was closed and it cost an extra ¥2100 to use the fitness facilities and inside pool. The location requires a shuttle bus into town or a reasonable walk to the main eats and attractions.

Review 130:The rooms were clean and comfortable with a nice view of the harbour. The staff were pleasant and helpful with our requests.

Review 131:Descrimination against Asian client. Don't see the genuine friendly services offered from The Tokyo flagship. What a pity will not stay there again!
