Reviews for Arima Onsen Tosen Goshobo

Review 1:Basically everything. It is probably more enjoyable when travelling as a couple or small group as Arima Onsen itself is fairly small. That aside, it is a perfect location to go to, relax and enjoy the benefits of a Ryokan.

Review 2:1) No sound proofing 2) slippers to wear indoor has no gripe, makes it difficult to walk around, especially climbing the stairs as this traditional building has no lift

Review 3:Location and excellent service. The bath is good!

Review 4:Price is very high as compared with other same grade of hotels in Japan we haved stayed so far. In short, it was like an extortion.

Review 5:Staff service is excellent

Review 6:Can't think of any.

Review 7:We are so impressed by the building itself and its beautiful surroundings. It is just a few steps from the bus station and the shops. Staff are very polite and helpful. They speak reasonably good English. Food is of good quality.

Review 8:The staff were all very helpful, especially for English speaking guests. The onsen on the property was amazing and the kaiseki ryori was the best of our entire trip.

Review 9:The slippers didn't fit either my husband or me and we were worried that we would trip and fall on the stairs.

Review 10:The serenity of the entire property from the helpfulness of the staff to the beauty and warmth of the hotel. We would encourage anyone to stay at a ryokan and especially at Arima.

Review 11:The security was questionable. It is normal for the ryokan style hotel that the room butler could come in the room to set the dinner table or the mattress anytime even when guests are not in the room. And in normal case, the property should not be lost but our case was not a lucky one. Per Booking.com staff and their guidelines for reviews, I could not put more details about the case. Just remember to keep your money in the safety box. The staff did not mention about the safety box when he introduced the room facility and my mistake that I did not bother to ask neither. Remember to keep the room key with you anytime even when you go to the onsen bath... If you leave the key in the basket in the changing room, the hotel will not take any responsibility neither. Just keep in mind...There was only 1 CCTV at the hotel front door in November 2015. I'm not sure if the hotel has installed more after we left. Other cons: I wouldn't have upgraded for a keiseki plan. It was tasty but pricey and not worth what we paid for. When we checked out, we found a bag full of ladies lingerie in the closet. I think it was from the previous guests. Check the condition of the locks on every window. I just realize that one of the window lock didn't work.

Review 12:The location is really convenient just next to the bus station. Recommend to take a bus from either Umeda or Shin-Osaka station straight to Arima Onsen and the hotel is just right there. The public onsen bath on 2nd floor at the hotel is also impressive. The room facility is overall in a good condition considering this hotel operated for hundreds of years. The massage chair was a big plus after a long walk day.

Review 13:The in room safe did not work or very difficult to get to work. The location was also not user friendly. Breakfast quality could use some improvement.

Review 14:The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Great service overall onsen baths were enjoyable. was not able to reserve a slot for the private bath.

Review 15:I saw many guest were confused with the MEN and WOMEN's public bath. A simple character in Japanese or English indicating MALE or FEMALE would really help. On the actual room keys itself had room numbers. However outside the rooms there were no numbers. There was only one private onsen for all the guests. We booked the deluxe room but was unable to get a slot in the private onsen due to all booked up.

Review 16:Friendly and courteous staff. Took care of our car from arrival and departure so that we didn't have to worry about parking ourselves. Considering the history of this place, they have kept it really clean and new appearance. Nice bar and piano area. Futons were comfortable.

Review 17:Staff were excellent and really nice. Customer service was great and some of the staff had good spoken english. Accomodation was really traditional which we liked a lot. Room was really clean and beds were comfortable. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and it was the best meal of our entire holiday. Definitely should prebook the meals in the hotel because all shops and restaurants close early in the area. The in-house hot spring baths made the whole experience perfect.

Review 18:Although the hotel premises is very historical with lovely design, the price is really high. The dinner is very expensive, about $100-US per one person. It is served in the traditional Japanese way but with very small amount of beef. Most of the food are the traditional Japanese type which I do not like too much. I pay extra to order for the dinner mainly because I want to eat nice Japanese beef. However given the amount of beef is so small, actually one should consider to take a short journey down to Kobe from Arima Station, and use the $100-US to eat Kobe beef there would be even more value for money. In any event, there is little that can be down up in the Arima area. Shops are not attractive. I think one time is very enough. I don't think I will visit Arima again. The so-called traditional restaurant is a very small one. I don't think it is traditional in any sense.

Review 19:The premises and layout of the hotel, especially the wood floor and the wooden staircase. Very lovely.

Review 20:It is a little expensive compared to the room and hot spring.

Review 21:We visited the waterfull nearby the hotel in the morning, it was a very good and peaceful experience. The hotel refers good food and nice service.

Review 22:at first we walk pass the hotel and lost because we couldn't find English name of hotel. It's would be much better if hotel has English name for tourist who don't know Japanese. Besides this all is perfect :)

Review 23:All staff are friendly, helpful and provide their best service during our stay. The location is convenience to walk around the town and the hotel is just the next bldg from the tourist information center.

Review 24:Language barrier limiting full knowledge.

Review 25:Onsen, authentic historical ryokan experience, township of Arima and especially the FANTASTIC view over Kobe and Osaka at the end of The Ropeway. We felt very sorry for the father and son from the UK, great people, but travelled with much luggage to the end of the ropeway, but were not informed about the 200m walk to the view (neither were we) - whose beauty is hard to describe. Don't miss the view.

Review 26:None.

Review 27:Good personal service. I felt the dinnercan be better for the price I paid. Breakfast was excellent. I really love the helpful staff assisting us. She took time to explain in Japanese and when I request to repeat In English, she tried her best. The receptionist is also very helpful and warm. I really love their service.

Review 28:We paid extra for a private onsen, but it was nothing special. It is just like an indoor home bathroom. I expected an outdoor view.

Review 29:The public onsen is amazing.

Review 30:The bar in the hotel charges extra for sitting in the bar and the price for tax and service are not included in the prices on the drinking menu.

Review 31:We especially liked that the onsen was as good as 24/24 open (only not during breakfast) and it is not crowded at all.

Review 32:Nothing we didn't like! Although beware of the map at the train station, it's upside down

Review 33:Excellent stay here in Arima Onsen, couldn't recommend this royken more for a treat in the most relaxing environment. We spent 2 days here at the end of our Honeymoon - Perfect!

Review 34:Private onsen is far away and worn out , not recommend

Review 35:Great in every details. Greatest location . Well trained staff with japanese hospitality . Beautiful library with complimentary afternoon drink and nice atmosphere.

Review 36:Everything is perfect especially the service and environment. I have a great experience being two days Japanese, who's wearing yukata, sleeping on tatami bed, having traditional cuisine.

Review 37:noisy chinese neighbors but that´s not Tosens foult :)

Review 38:Great place to visit. Wonderfull onsen, staff. Food was incredible!!!! Higly recomend Tosen Goshobo

Review 39:It will be perfect if the hotel provides a simple breakfast for their customers before their set off.

Review 40:The ambience is super. Staff was super friendly. A great experience and i had a good sleep.

Review 41:We went to Arima Onsen so we could stay 1 night at this hotel and it was worth it. It is not just a stay in an hotel, it is an experience that everybody travelling to Japan should have (albeit the price is pretty steep...). Great points: the food, the onsen, the facilities, the service

Review 42:No shutte bus to the hotel (we did get dropped off back to the bus station on leaving), uncomfortable pillows, room was not dark at night

Review 43:Friendly staff, fantastic location, onsen, comfy beds, yummy food (the Kobe need is a must)

Review 44:Nice staff. Delicious dinner with Kobe beef. Luxury breakfast. The traditional hot spring. The famous town this hotel located. Its beatiful coffee bar.

Review 45:Dinner is not good value for money. For at least 7,000 Yen, I expected more. Pillow too hard. Would have been nice if the onset had been outdoors.

Review 46:Great hotel, very friendly staff, beautiful location in the Japanese countryside. Massive breakfast!

Review 47:The futon matressess arn't the most comfortable in the world.

Review 48:Wonderful japanese style spa-hotel with an excellent restaurant. when you have checked in you don't want to leave.

Review 49:This is a traditional Ryokan. Best features are the hot springs, kimonos you get to wear and the authentic Japanese meals; well worth getting the option of meals included. The service is perfect and the Ryokan has tons of character. The location is not near much but worth traveling to for one night. Highly recommended.

Review 50:Have ant in our dinner dishes. The onsen is indoor only,if outdoor you need to pay extra. You can heard the noise of people keep walking around. If paid for this price you can find some others is valuable.

Review 51:The food is delicious~ the theme of the hotel is good~ room is big enough.

Review 52:May because of the location, This hotel is being very commercial already. There are less Japanese traits in this hotel.

Review 53:- location - nice people - cozy room - There was an old lady serving our dinner, she was kind and friendly, she made us enjoy this trip.

Review 54:It's not dislike, but have to tip-toe walking all the time in the building due to antique wood floor.

Review 55:- Location right next to walking street - Friendly and helpful staffs - Cozy Japanese style room - Beautiful setting and very tastey food - High standard and unique style onsen

Review 56:There was no open air bath.

Review 57:Fascinating rambling hotel, walking distance from the station (if you don't have heavy luggage), with lots of artistic details in the decor. Peaceful, comfortable beautiful rooms, responsive service. Accessible to walks to interesting nearby temples and winding streets worth exploring.

Review 58:Everything is truly impressive, both the hardware and the software, especially the faculty, are highly appreciated. I'd like to choose here again next time.

Review 59:There is no lift, so if you have a physical disability it can be a bit hard to navigate. The staff did help us carry our luggage up to the 3rd? 4th? floor for us.

Review 60:With all its history, this place is NOT old at all! It's being constantly cared for and renovated and loved for. We even saw a lady arranging fall themed flowers in one of the hallways! It is a little big and can get you lost but the staff are extremely helpful. All throughout the hallways there are different displays of writings and prints and sake cups from different eras. Walking around there is like walking through a museum! The onsite onsen is a bit small and while it doesn't connect with the male side, the wall separation does get lower so if you are traveling with a group of mixed friends, definitely great for conversations. Otherwise keep your body in the water :). The view from the bath is great and very relaxing. Location is super convenient, right next to the Hankyu bus station. It is on the main street so there are many cute little shops around. We also did the half board with our meals in the restaurant, great food and ambiance and nice selection of sake.

Review 61:Nothing, well .....I did get a bit paranoid that I would forget to put the right slippers on at the right time and place.

Review 62:The decor, the ambience, the beautiful room with heavenly doona, the amazing public baths overlooking the river, the restaurant, especially the breakfast, the staff, the setting...... everything I was hoping for and more. I was treated like a queen. The best massage I have ever had.

Review 63:It's quite far away from Kobe station, so the taxi ride was a bit expensive.

Review 64:Excellent staff, friendly and very attentive. Perfect dinner and breakfast in the room with a nice selection of wines. The private bath is wonderful.

Review 65:Nothing much, first onsen hotel so can compare much

Review 66:The Onsen was very relaxing, also love the private room in the garden area. Room was very decent size with every time needed. Also very easy to find

Review 67:There were no taxis available in for an early morning departure, although this was to-be-expected given the history and location of the onsen.

Review 68:Location was excellent and reasonably accessible while the onsen hot springs experience was fantastic. Please take some time to understand the onsen tradition and you will get more out of your trip. A special experience is the private onsen, which is available for a reasonable fee. Walk around the town if you can, there's some interesting Japanese experiences to be had.

Review 69:Quality of service and attention to detail was amazing, including accommodating an English speaker and guiding me through the traditions. Sense of history and culture was very visible. Dinner was one of the best meals of my life in terms of both presentation and taste.

Review 70:Dinner at our room was an incredible experience, everything was delicious. Service is very attentive, we were in onsen out of the hours (we did not realize it was closed) but they let us stayed without a problem. Everyone was very polite and professional. nothing disappoints here! this was our best night in Japan
