Reviews for Hotel Duomo

Review 1:Hmmm, didn't like that I must go so soon...

Review 2:The location was excellent to get around to many sites and accessible to excellent restaurants and shopping. Easy access to Metro as well. Right on one of the main streets and you can look down from your window and balcony to enjoy the people. Small lift for one with luggage but hey...it is Italy..

Review 3:We enjoyed the hotel, the breakfast was very good and the location was wonderful. Two of the employees Caterina and Tony were very helpful. Thank you.

Review 4:Unfortunately one night there was a impossibly loud disco party outside the window, at the HQ if the contrada Aquila- apparently this happens occasionally making a complete nights sleep impossible. No other rooms were available, and the staff were unsympathetic. However I don't know how you find out if this is going to happen during your stay. Only the rooms at the back were affected. Currently, and for the next month, there is scaffolding outside the windows of some of the rooms resulting in a complete lack of privacy as the shutters can't close. If booking here check that you haven't got these rooms - unfortunately the ones with the spectacular view of the cathedral.

Review 5:Location is brilliant

Review 6:- The bed was uncomfortable - The shutters weren't solid and the curtains were sheer so there was no way to block the light out of the room.

Review 7:- Very friendly, helpful staff - Room was very clean - Amazing view from room - Excellent location - Very nice breakfast

Review 8:None

Review 9:Reception manager Tony very friendly and professional, room lovely with view of Duomo, breakfast good and lady in charge of dining room very nice Hotel location very good ?

Review 10:There is only one slow elevator and some rooms do not have elevator access.

Review 11:Rooms were clean and location was great. Walking distance from major turist destinations. Staff were kind.

Review 12:Nothing special.

Review 13:Location of the Hotel is very close to major visiting spots, like "Duomo/Cattedrale" , "Plazza del Campo" etc.. From the room of the top story we can see fantastic Duomo every day.

Review 14:"dated" would be an understatement for this hotel. The staff was very helpful and courteous but the accomodations were tired, musty and subpar.

Review 15:No view from our room.

Review 16:Very close to Siena's centre. The Cathedral (Duomo) is only 5 minutes walk away and the main square is less than 10 minutes.

Review 17:There was no safe in the room which is such an inconvenience. You could leave your valuables in the hotel safe but that means you have to get them to open up twice a day to take out extra cash etc. The breakfast was quite a good buffet but there aren't enough tables in the dining area so if you arrive during the rush you have to go away and try again later.

Review 18:The hotel was about a ten minute walk from the main bus stop and very central. It was in a beautiful old building and our room had a wonderful view over the cathedral and countryside.

Review 19:Very small bathroom, divided into 2 rooms, one of which was just a shower and the other was toilet and sink. Very small shower room with not enough room to get dressed and no ventilation.

Review 20:Staff lovely and extremely helpful. Good location.

Review 21:Hard to get to the hotel by car through narrow and crowded streets.

Review 22:Central location, gorgeous view, walking distance to all landmarks, shopping, parking served by the staff.

Review 23:Shower pressure/temperature fluctuated a little.

Review 24:We were expecting a tiny room for the four of us but our daughter walked in first and said "oh" which had us worried, but it was huge !!! Room 54 was awesome ! View was FANTASTIC. Location was awesome, and staff very friendly.

Review 25:A great location in the heart of Siena, just a stone's throw from the Duomo. Clean and comfortable room, with 2 genuinely twin beds (which was hard to find in Tuscany). Friendly and helpful staff who parked our car for us and brought it back when we wanted it.

Review 26:We all liked the feel of staying within the walls of a Medieval City. We walked to the places we wished to visit, we only wish that we would have allocated more time for this city and this hotel stay.

Review 27:Shower, breakfast was lacking compared to other stays this trip. NO SAFE in room.

Review 28:Close to Duomo and restaurants etc. Staff at the desk was very accommodating.

Review 29:The bed was very hard. Difficult to get restful sleep.

Review 30:Location and very helpful staff. We could walk to major sites in just a few minutes. The view from our room was awesome.

Review 31:We weren't too impressed with the noise which some nights went on until the very early hours of the morning. This apparently is something one has to expect!

Review 32:Hotel was very close to all the sights of Siena and all the restaurants nearby and further afield were very good.

Review 33:The front desk coordinated the successful return of my wallet that was left in the taxi bringing my party from the train station to the Hotel Duomo. They even fronted a gratuity to the returning cab driver out of their pocket, for me to repay them later. Excellent service that saved the day and put my holiday mood back in a great place. A++

Review 34:Nothing to compare.

Review 35:the staff helps you with your luggage and they are very friendly. They gave me a lot of suggestions for my holiday. And of course, the breakfest is very very good. You have fresh fruits, cornflakes, coffe, different juices, different sausage and bread. My room was lovely and i had a good view. With WLAN I had no problems.

Review 36:Nothing.

Review 37:Loved it. We stayed 3 nights and had a very pleasant room and a spacious balcony with wonderful views up to the Duomo and over the Tuscan countryside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, in a nice room. The location is excellent, in close proximity to all of Siena's famous sights.

Review 38:The room decor was that of a dormitory for $420 Euro It was overpriced even for the Palio event.

Review 39:The service desk personnel were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast selection and service outstanding.

Review 40:Bathroom facilities were a little run down and problematic and WIFI was hit and miss in the bedroom.

Review 41:Lovely affordable accommodation right in the centre of Sienna. Great bedroom with wonderful view of the Duomo.

Review 42:The woman on the front desk is often away. The Young guy is helpful. The toaster need to be changed for a professional one, and please buy real fruit juce

Review 43:The location and the view of the bedroom

Review 44:I found the information about the accommodation quite misleading. It seemed that parking is possible free of charge in some hotel parking site, but they demand 20 eur for place, which is 100 meters from the hotel, or they propose site free of charge 400 meters from the hotel! The view from the room was one of the ugliest I have ever seen (dirty cramped yard). The carpets in the hotel are worn-out and it is quite dark. Although I chose room with bath tube, I have been given room with shower - therefore I immediately left and I have used Athena hotel, which was superb. Be careful, when expecting bath tube in 3-bed hotel room!!!

Review 45:The lady at reception (Svetlana) was very kind and helped us to rebook, I appreciate her willingness.

Review 46:My friend and I had a hard time figuring out hotel stay for our trip to watch Il Palio. For sure the Hotel Duomo is super close to that location, but it is close to everything. AND - the staff was great, room view was spectacular (stared out of bed at the Duomo). Loved loved loved it

Review 47:I liked the fact they weren't overpriced, but I got a good deal on your website. The room was worth the 59€ paid, but if I had paid more I wouldn't have been happy. Mind you, I have to take in consideration the location. Which is excellent!! The parking cost 20€ more which I was disappointed about. But it was very safe and the staff parked the car for us!!

Review 48:One of the beds was directly in front of the door and another was situated in a place where the air conditioning didn't reach. And with 100 degree days this mattered.

Review 49:Tony was very helpful and friendly. The room had the most stunning views of the old city I have ever experienced. We had a wonderful meal also recommended by Tony. Everything was very good.

Review 50:None!

Review 51:We were very fortunate to have been given room 51 at the top of the hotel with views over the rooftops of the nearby Duomo. Stunning views. Nearby restaurants were also superb. Siena is a must stay option for anyone travelling through the area. One of the highlights of our 2 week journey through Italy.

Review 52:Floor plan of hotel is a bit odd w/ corridors that wind around, I'm guessing as a result of joining buildings together. Not a big deal and would definitely stay there again.

Review 53:I had lots of email correspondence w/ the staff prior to arrival and they were super helpful and prompt in answering all my questions. Once there they continued to guide us in our enjoyment of Siena. At the hotel, if you did not take the lift you got a real peak at the "old world charm " of the original building.

Review 54:Breakfast: although there was fresh fruit offered, it was generally overripe, or hard as a stone. Not much variety in the breakfast.Staff: a bit abrupt, especially the front desk. The guests are the ones paying the bill, and I think that should be remembered. Smiles work wonders, and they were sadly lacking here, in a stay of several days. Bathroom: the bathroom is TINY, with the shower in one corner, only a shower curtain to cover it so water runs everywhere in the bathroom. Unless you move the towels before, they will be wet. I realize this is an old building, but some sort of other arrangement should be made to enclose the shower.(or perhaps it was only our room)

Review 55:The view was absolutely excellent, but not all rooms would have this, and the location was very good, very near the cathedral.

Review 56:Being charged for one bottle of water. The room should come with one bottle of water per guest as a complimentary gift for tired travelers.

Review 57:Location, location, location. Wonderful service, most helpful.

Review 58:The room was functional but lacking the amazing views as advertised on this site.

Review 59:The location of the hotel is its major selling point - just a few minutes from the Duomo and Piazza del Campo with some excellent little restaurants just a few doors down

Review 60:Location of the hotel was perfect for a short sightseeing tour of Siena. All the main attractions were within easy walking distance of the hotel. Hotel staff were so accommodating friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

Review 61:Chipped paint, drapes torn, no stairway up or down. Must ride ancient, terrifying lifts.

Review 62:Tony was amazing and helped us a great deal. He was also cheerful and polite and truly competent.

Review 63:wifi is spotty

Review 64:The little town is amazingly beautiful and the hotel was lovely. Paulo was very nice and helpful when the room we had been assigned smelled like cigaret smoke (despite the no smoking rule). He quickly found us another room.

Review 65:My only negative comment, and not very negative, is that the bathroom is narrow, but there isn't much they can do about that.

Review 66:Our room was in the back and we noticed no noise but each room came equipped with a noise machine. The owners care about comments

Review 67:The wifi could be spotty at times since we were in the back corner.

Review 68:The location was great and it was nice that 4 people could stay in a room comfortably (including 2 showers).

Review 69:Finding it was a bit tricky - more signage on the approach to Siena is recommended

Review 70:Location is awesome, view from our room breathtaking, service great, can't fault at all

Review 71:No bad experiences to report.

Review 72:Aboslutely stuffning views of the Old City of Siena from both of our rooms. Our rooms were average size, simply and adequately furnished with lovely Tuscan country pieces, very clean. Room had obviously been updated with fresh plaster, flooring and baths. All necessary amenities and pleasant staff. Unfortunately only had one day visit but would like to return again. Had wonderful dinner outside on the beautiful main piazza,,,home-made pasta, Tuscan specialties and wine. Hotel location is excellent and very walkable despite all the hills and narrow twisting streets in Siena.

Review 73:Driving to location with Garmin GPS will take you up pedestrian only streets. You'll have to fool your GPS to get to the Hotel listed (Hotel Doumo).

Review 74:Close to the Doumo and the Campo.Old city is wonderful. Siena is a giggle at night.

Review 75:Dirty hallway- like the Palio horse race ran through. Air conditioner didn't work. Private deck was hardly private- only separated by glass from room next door. Could hear everything, including but not limited to toenail clippings....

Review 76:Wifi was great, location good.

Review 77:The first night we had a bad room with workmen outside the window from very early

Review 78:After the first night we had a delightful room with a wonderful view over the city walls and Duomo to the countryside. The staff were most helpful

Review 79:Very helpful and accommodating personnel, great WiFi, located right in center of town. We had a very quiet room. Luckily we got a discount on the parking: EUR10 per night.

Review 80:Nothing!

Review 81:The staff was super friendly and helpful in getting to know the area. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and there were plenty of choices.

Review 82:In the rooms you can hear the noise coming from the room next door, for example, we could hear the toilet and the shower of my neighbors. Something which you can live with of course, but still not always pleasant :)

Review 83:Everything was great!

Review 84:We approached from the bus terminal. So it's a bit far on foot but the Duomo is quite near.

Review 85:Hotel staff is very friendly and kindly tells us how to look around the city and where to eat. We enjoyed the splendid view of Siena's Duomo from the room window.

Review 86:Great location very helpful staff. breakfast were good , and you can have proper Capuccino at no extra cost! We would stay there again.Siena is a super place for a short stay, with all sights in walking distance of this hotel.

Review 87:We travel from Siena train station, hotel suggest us take taxi spent about 18 Euros which is convenient way to access to hotel. Then all tourist attractions all near by. Our room was clean and comfortable. Only problem was the plug in bathroom which was not working, have to use plug in the room. It was very noisy when I use hair dryer while my mum was sleeping. Breakfast was ok. In all, I would recommend this for money value.

Review 88:What didn't I like? Not a single thing.

Review 89:Well, where to start? The two reception staff with whom we dealt, Svetlana and Tony - the lattter esp also served as concierge - were excellent, informative and professional. The room we had was just beautiful - clean, calming decor, roomy as I had expected in the middle of a medieval town to be cramped. The room was already cosy warm when we arrived, and we threw open the shutters to discover the most glorious view of the duomo and the cathedral in the late afternoon winter sun. The breakfast (in the curiously not claustrophobic basement - classic arched) was excellent with a great buffet selection of meats, cheeses, fruits and cereals, the coffee wonderful as was the choice of teas. We are also so grateful to Svetlana who dropped off a jacket we had left behind when she came to Florence a few days later! Thank you all it was just terrific. The location is really excellent - it is a 3 minute walk to the duomo, and you can begin from there a circuit of the town to see all the major sights.

Review 90:Room didn't have a nice view (it was a quadruple, regrettably it was the only one available). Private parking is very expensive (EUR 20/night)

Review 91:Location Room size

Review 92:Probably because of connecting two buildings, we ought to climb stairs from 1 to 2 floors after using elevator from ground to 1 floors. This work was compensated by the wonderful view from our room, however.

Review 93:The room, beds, bath were all very satisfactory. The view from the room (52) was superb. The location is perfect for visiting anywhere in Siena you would like.

Review 94:This was a last minute booking as I had a problem with my flight and unexpectedly had to stay in Tuscany an extra night. Rather than go back to Florence I thought I would spend a night in Siena and see the sights the following day. I'm so pleased I did - and that I found this hotel. It is in a great location in the centre of the old town, just 5 minutes walk from the main piazza and even less from the famous cathedral. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, with an amazing view from the window. I think that the room had been fairly recently decorated. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 95:Elevator is tiny and there did not seem to be an option to take the stairs up from the lobby. But, this is by no means a deal breaker. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone looking for a good affordable, but not luxury hotel.

Review 96:Location was great. It was very affordable and Tony at the front desk was very helpful in giving good restaurant recommendations and other advice about the area. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 97:It was a bit hard to reach the hotel by car, as my car navigation system did not show properly the one-way roads. In the city you have difficulties to find free parking, so you would ask the hotel to keep the car (one day - 20 Euro). My room had only shower.

Review 98:Convenient place to walk in the city. The hotel is kind to show good restaurants. Breakfast is also OK. Wi-fi worked in my room well, although initial connection was a bit difficult.

Review 99:Trains went on strike on Sunday, Sept. 21 and we could not move on to Lucca where we had a hotel waiting. Phoned Duomo but they were 'completo'. Tooooo bad. Found another place and happily spent another day in Siena. Don't miss the botanical garden, a quiet and restful spot after a day in central city.

Review 100:A quiet location, overlooking the tiled rooftops of old Siena but at the edge of the green hillside and oh, so quiet. Our windows opened on the back side to a view so lovely I took several photos. Staff helped figure out our WiFi; checked on train resers for us - very helpful.

Review 101:Hotel needs some upkeep in the rooms.

Review 102:We loved the location! We were in the quad room which was very quaint. Staff was very helpful to us as we secured transportation. View was lovely. To make it excellent the hotel needs some tender living care.

Review 103:The bed was very uncomfortable and unacceptable -

Review 104:The location was excellent - staff very helpful - breakfast was good and the breakfast room was pleasant.

Review 105:There want anything we didn't like. Being at the south end of the old city it was a bit of a walk from the train station, but doable with lighter luggage. Taxis are also available for about 12€.

Review 106:It is a small hotel and we liked the spaciousness of the room and the proximity to all the sites of the Duomo and piazza Il Campo. The bed was a very firm mattress but good. Breakfast was great and the staff were very helpful.

Review 107:Really difficult drive through town as narrow crowded streets. Garage was another €20 on top of €130 for the room. Terrible old lift and no stairs. Tiny bedroom with shabby furniture and view of brick wall. Miniscule en suite with no separate shower. No english tv

Review 108:Location is very good as it is only a couple of hundred metres from the centre of town though being the centre means there are no outside areas. breakfast was fair though nothing hot (except toast). There is not much else to like!

Review 109:All good.

Review 110:The town, the people & their passion for celebrating, singing and neighborhood activities. Fabulous. Great meals and architecture. Loved it all.

Review 111:Our window looked out on the gorgeous duomo in the distance. We couldn't ask for a better view. The hotel staff is friendly and the hotel is conveniently located. The staff took our rental car to the parking garage for us after we unloaded our luggage at the front door. Osteria Nonna Gina is a delicious casual eatery just down the road. This was our second stay at Hotel Duomo and we hope to stay there on our next trip.

Review 112:The fact that the price will be hard to obtain again...

Review 113:Location, price (was extremely reasonable @ 55EURO per night). Was told due to low demand at the time... The single room I was in had spectacular roof top views of both The Cathedral and the Tower. Breakfast was adequate. Clean.

Review 114:Bed was a little hard.

Review 115:Front office staff were very friendly and helpful. Gave great tips for sight seeing and booked taxis for us which made our stay much more enjoyable.

Review 116:No fridge or tea/coffee making facilities in room. Would have liked even one English speaking channel on tv.

Review 117:This is a lovely hotel and is very central. We had a fine spacious bedroom but the view out the window was looking at someone's wall and roof, making the room quite dark. We were only there for one night so this was not a problem. Staff friendly and helpful, breakfast very good, cleanliness and comfort good. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 118:You can only get to your room by elevator, and this elevator is small, very small + you don't see/feel whether it's moving. Shower is small too. It's a long walk from the train station when carrying luggage, better take a taxi that will cost around 10 EUR.

Review 119:Location in historic centre of Siena. Spacious (triple) room, nice and clean. Quiet, not facing the street. Terrace on the roof. Great breakfast. Friendly staff.

Review 120:Very friendly staff, helpfull. Perfect location. We had a room with balcony and the view was just stunning. Room was clean and spacious. Nice breakfast.

Review 121:Very close to places to eat and all the sights in town. Plus excellent staff who were able to advise us on parking, good places to eat etc. Beautiful hotel.

Review 122:Elevator size bit small.

Review 123:Central location ideal for city touring. Breakfast v substantial. Staff most helpful. Garden filled with birdsong every morning.

Review 124:No stairs, we had to take the elevator the one level up and down. Not a big deal but some people prefer to walk!

Review 125:Excellent location, clean and comfortable. Very helpful staff, the concierge even parked our car for us :)

Review 126:Staff extremely helpful, wifi excellent, location perfect, absolutely beautiful views of the duomo. Great room, had a triple and plenty of room, clean and great place to stay!

Review 127:Scaffolding out my window but I understand and am not complaining

Review 128:Location and great staff

Review 129:We loved the staff -- very friendly and helpful.

Review 130:location of the place, value

Review 131:Difficult to find.
