Reviews for Hotel Athena

Review 1:Staff went out of their way to be helpful and recommend places to visit and eat. Rooms were comfortable, albeit shower in our bathroom was quite small. Was bonus to have parking space. Lots of places to walk to in Siena and lovely places to drive around outside the city. Were fortunate that we had good weather.

Review 2:The coffeemachine at the breakfast was very slow and one was broken. The hotel was very hot inside in the winter?

Review 3:The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The location was convenient and quiet and we had a nice view.

Review 4:The only dissatisfaction was the poor internet connectivity.

Review 5:Everything was very satisfactory and the facilities were all practical. Had a good view of countryside from our suite 714. Some noise from road but not significant.

Review 6:None at all.

Review 7:Our room with a view. We were also upgraded. Beds were very clean and highly comfortable. Staff were all friendly and focused on servicing every table in the restaurant as well as reception. We loved the terrace. I recommended this hotel to my friends here in the Philippines.

Review 8:Although got a free room upgrade, air conditioning was not working. Wifi does not work well...the hotel advises it's Siena's wifi the issue

Review 9:Facilities such as parking and restaurant - beautiful view from the terrace

Review 10:Nothing

Review 11:The location: walking distance from the Piazza Del Campo. We appreciated the free parking and that they allowed us to leave our car there even after we had checked out Our room was recently renovated Good breakfast buffet with lots of choice from fresh fruit and yogurt to eggs and bacon

Review 12:It's outside the walls of the city. That said, you get to have a lovely view of the tuscan hills. Unless you are allocated a room on the back with street views.

Review 13:The terrace is breathtaking

Review 14:The location inside the city walls and the view from the balcony made for a truly lovely stay. The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

Review 15:This property is absolutely gorgeous and the staff was wonderful. Of the 4 cities we visited during our trip to Italy (Venice, Florence, Siena and Rome) this hotel was by far our favorite. Keep up the good work!!

Review 16:Nothing.

Review 17:Great hotel! Wonderful staff, all were informative, helpful. We were driving to Florence and Andre gave us a great tip on where to park, Thanks Andre!

Review 18:The bathroom did not have any window therefore the smell of mold was very strong and bad. I let a paper fell on the floor and I was surprised with the dirt under the bed, lots of dust and a couple of things. The mini bar was not replaced therefore we never had water in the room and we had to order it. The housekeeper would make a lot of noise cleaning the other rooms, not very nice when you want to sleep a little longer.

Review 19:Very nice location, very close to the main attractions.

Review 20:On booking.com it had indicated that breakfast was included, but then we ended up having to pay for it.

Review 21:This was a great location in Siena, and the rooftop terrace was such a treat! The hotel room was clean and the staff was very helpful. Great value and could not have been happier

Review 22:No negatives. We'd go back given the opportunity!

Review 23:We were very happy with all aspects of this well-run hotel. The location is within easy walking distance of the cathedral and centre of town however while sitting in the terrace bar we had amazing views of Tuscan hills. The staff are very relaxed and happy but efficient; the room was large and airy and had its own terrace overlooking Siena. Breakfasts were very good and we tried the restaurant one evening and had an excellent meal there. Desk staff are great with recommendations for things to do and other places eat. Did I mention free parking!!??

Review 24:Not so close from Piazza Del Campo... I think it was expensive for what they offer at the hotel!

Review 25:Nice view from de room. The size of the room was very good.

Review 26:This hotel is located close to all of the historical sights in Siena. Loved the rooftop bar. The staff was always professional, courteous and efficient.

Review 27:The outdoor terrace with amazing views where one could relax with a drink late afternoon. The barman there was very attentive to the guests and friendly. Also the breakfast was very good and relaxing. Dinner there was excellent.

Review 28:Great location, 10 mins from Il Campo. Very helpfulf staff. Terrace bar with a terrific view. Parking and a lift. I would certainly return to this hotel if I visit Siena again.

Review 29:Staff seemed very stoic and didn't appear to enjoy being helpful.

Review 30:The proximity of the hotel in the rennissance village enables you to take in the culture but still have some breathing room. Nice immenities.

Review 31:The room was an economy one without a view, as indicated on the booking form. This also meant it was very dark so we needed lights on all the time. It was noisy much of the time in the room as voices travelled from the reception and lobby, as well as the sound of footsteps up and down the stairs and overhead. We could also hear the lift going up and down the lift shaft.

Review 32:The room was very clean with nice bathroom. Liked the bar with terrace view.

Review 33:The position of this hotel is superb, located just inside Siena's ancient walls, with the added bonus of parking & a short walk to the centre. The standard of the cuisine is very good, both @ breakfast & for the one supper we experienced, where we found the prices very reasonable.

Review 34:We paid a significant amount of money for the room and it turned out breakfast was not included. They wanted to charge us a significant amount extra for that. The rooms were quite noisy, we could hear the neighbors from all rooms with a common wall/floor.

Review 35:Nice and comfortable hotel with friendly staff.

Review 36:Guests coming to dinner in shorts and vest tops or with backward facing caps. Is it too much trouble to tidy up for dinner. Instigate a dress code please

Review 37:Parking was limited, but thankfully we got a space. Dinner was VERY expensive (although delicious!) - go for the set menu if you eat there.

Review 38:Lovely hotel inside the walls of Sienna itself.

Review 39:Definitely great value for money. A very convenient location, so close to city centre, although maybe not if you aren't quite so mobile. The rooftop area afforded wonderful views.

Review 40:WIFI in the room (610 for us) was poor poor poor!! That said, not in this beautiful city to sit on the internet, but it is useful to have for planning. The speed was better in reception and there are also guest computers which you can use.

Review 41:Fantastic location just inside city wall, pleasant decor, comfortable, airy well apportioned rooms. Staff are great. I really loved this hotel.

Review 42:There's nothing not to like but there are two ways the hotel could be improved: i) less intermittent wifi (which is a little bit of a pain); ii) a pool somewhere to ameliorate the Italian summer heat

Review 43:The staff at Athena are extremely helpful and courteous. The hotel is fabulously placed and has lovely views (at least from our rooms). Whilst all the staff were excellent, Elvis and particularly Nicola in the rooftop bar were always on hand to help and were attentive and fun.

Review 44:Breakfast just ok. Room ( we only had the standard one though ) is a little small and the bathroom is tiny. Some rooms though do have a great view worth a 40eur upgrade.

Review 45:Very friendly staff whose suggested restaurants suggestions were spot on. (Top mention for massimo at the front desk). Beautiful views from the roof top terrasse. Ample parking. Location is good.

Review 46:Tobacco smell in the whole room when supposed to be non smoking. Awful wifi Overcrowded breakfast room Bad soundproofing Antique decoration

Review 47:Location Cleanliness Staff

Review 48:Wifi is simply awful. The hotel staff blame the city's infrastructure, but I'm certain that the problems are in the hotel. In our room the connection was very variable, but in the lobby all was well, all the time. Also, whilst the bathrooms are good, the rooms themselves are very dated, with far too much formica and a dreadful faux leather beige headboard - a trip back to the 70s.

Review 49:Good location for the Duomo and Campo, modern bathroom, great breakfast and awesome roof terrace.

Review 50:Nothing to dislike.

Review 51:When looking for a hotel in Siena, look no further. Seriously, with the view from the rooms on the seventh and eight floors, the clean rooms, excellent bathrooms, free parking and wifi and friendly staff, what more do you need. The 10 minute walk to the Campo and the Duomo just give you the feel that you have a discovered a super location: who needs the crowds of the center all the time! Ask for room 808 (twin beds) for a superb view. Ask for 809 for slightly less stunning views but with a balcony. Breakfast is great value at 9 euros.

Review 52:wifi connection not great.

Review 53:Comfortable hotel and helpful staff. Fantastic location and the rooftop restaurant has amazing views. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 54:Breakfast was too crowded and not a lot to take. rooms are pretty old and the Wlan doesnt work very well

Review 55:Its a good location and the view from the terrace is amazing

Review 56:Totally useless WiFi You should not even say you provide it. I would have stayed elsewhere as I needed to be connected to my office and could not make a single contact. Very problematic for my work. Cost me plenty.

Review 57:Staff were great.

Review 58:Wifi connection was not the best....

Review 59:We were a group of 8 people and used 3 rooms. 2 triple rooms have good views. All 3 rooms are comfortable. Terrace roof dinner was very nice, not so much in amount but delicate.

Review 60:This is a fantastic hotel, a couple of minutes walk from the centre. The staff are very helpful, will organise tours for you etc. The room was clean and spacious with complimentary water on arrival. The breakfast was plentiful and varied. I had dinner on the terrace one evening, the view was lovely and the food delicious. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Review 61:The wi-fi could be improved and the breakfast could have better coffee.

Review 62:The view from the rooftop terrace was phenomenal and the hotel is close to the city center and Duomo in Siena. Several shops are nearby and don't forget to book a wine tasting or two out in Tuscany. The front desk is very accomodating and I like how the products were environmentally sustainable.

Review 63:Dinner in the restaurant was under expectations. Please put umbrellas in the afternoon on terrace when hot. Plants should be put on right side for privacy of rooms of guests.

Review 64:Service was very good, especially in the reception.

Review 65:no ramp for strollers. need to carry on stairs

Review 66:Extremely gool location, in the old city. Quality Hotel. Free car park, very good breakfast, very friendly staff, nice rooms.

Review 67:Views from the terrace restaurant, staff were lovely and helpful, short walk into town, free parking, breakfast was delicious really good scrambled eggs and bacon, room was comfy and had everything you needed for a basic stay.

Review 68:A beautiful hotel with modern facilities and amenities run by a responsive professional staff. Attractive rooms are spacious and clean, well-equipped with TV, WIFI, stocked minibar and complementary bottle of wine. The terrace restaurant had delicious food and a great view.

Review 69:The bed was pretty hard.

Review 70:Staff very professional, but friendly. Helpful and excellent in English. The parking helped a lot and being close to the center but with easy access to the highway to explore Tuscana was very helpful.

Review 71:We were given a beautiful room with a view of the Tuscan hills. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, giving us recommendations for some excellent restaurants. The bed was extremely comfortable

Review 72:Loved the view of Tucany from our window (we requested the view & had to pay more...but it was worth it)...the hotel was clean & fun to walk to from the streets of Siena.

Review 73:I did not have a bad experience. Overall this is a big hotel and good for a group stay, maybe not a romantic weekend

Review 74:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a great location. The beds were more comfortable than most in Italy.

Review 75:Siena is one of the nicest citys in Italy. The best thing is the staff at Hotel Athena. They can help you with everything, and they are very kindly. When our car got a flat tire, the staff managed everything with the Italian car rental company. This was very helpful. We got food, taxi and everything at the hotel. Thank you so much.

Review 76:Excellent location. easy walking distance to everything, slightly removed (in a very good way) so can remove yourself from the noise at night and enjoy the rooftop bar/restuarant with fabulous views

Review 77:A bit noisy at night, some visitors have no respect for others.... this is not the fault of the staff anyhow but maybe advise visitors that some people like sleeping earlier than them!

Review 78:Location

Review 79:Did not have any thing bad to say .

Review 80:I loved staying here the staff were all so helpful and nothing was a bother to them, it makes such a more pleasant holiday when you are comfortable in your surroundings.

Review 81:A small thing but the receptionist who booked us in emphasised that we had booked an economy room. It was a very nice room but his attitude was a bit off.

Review 82:Lots of storage space in bedroom and bathroom. Convenient parking. 10 minute walk to duomo/restaurants/shops. Very clean.

Review 83:Internet sucked Spent hours being frustrated from on then off again service Suggest offering Hot Points in the rooms

Review 84:Terrific help from the front desk Great service from waiter and waitress Nice room

Review 85:Only bad point really was the rude roof to waiter who was not happy that we where only ordering dessert and wine! Telling us and everyone in ear shoot he would have moved us else where, no one else even came for dinner... We moved in the end to a better view in the bar and served by some loverly bar staff which made up for it.

Review 86:Great front of house staff, we where on honey moon and passing through so one night stay, also late booking but they made it really special with some nice touches.

Review 87:Only downside was the internet connection- needs urgent upgrading!!

Review 88:The staff and the hotel were both excellent - staff were both friendly and helpful- hotel comfy and clean

Review 89:wifi only worked properly at the lobby. I was on the 4 floor and didn't have wifi at all. I was supposed to have a king bed but instead they put two small beds together both were really uncomfy

Review 90:I like the location

Review 91:Terrace with wonderful view spoilt by pigeons on and around the tables so not very pleasant. Parking quite limited so staff moving cars around, which I didn't like as hire car. Problem with TV took too long to resolve.

Review 92:Good access to centre, very nice room with KETTLE and minibar so could make tea! Staff all helpful and friendly.

Review 93:Breakfast room was chaotic and the single-serving coffee machines were inadequate for so many people at breakfast--and one day there was only one machine working, so there was a huge line.

Review 94:location was good, quiet

Review 95:The walls seem thin, noise from water pipes in the wall, loud enough to wake us up. Perhaps limited to the location of our room.

Review 96:The room and bathroom are large, modern and very comfortably furnished. The bed was very comfortable, nice pillows and bedding. The staff was very friendly, service was great.

Review 97:Free parking and easy access (on foot) to centre of Siena. Rooms do not have much character but are comfortable and well equipped. Very good restaurant and wine service.

Review 98:It's quite a large hotel and a bit impersonal. the roof terrace is not quite as great as they would like you to think it is.

Review 99:This hotel is in a great location for walking into town and has the big bonus of free parking.

Review 100:The bathroom was REALLY small and I could barely turn around in the shower. There was also a drip in the sink that made noise all night.

Review 101:Super friendly staff, very gracious and helpful. Room was clean and we got a complimentary bottle of wine.

Review 102:Walls are very thin and lots of noise (staff moving furniture and talking in the corridor, surrounding rooms) was getting in. Felt quite annoying.

Review 103:Location is just perfect. 5 min walk from Duomo. Quiet street. Nice staff.

Review 104:Fabulous location, 5 minutes walking distance to the city centre, very helpful staff, especially Andrea who gave us a wondeful tip for lunch in Chianti area.

Review 105:Breakfast very disappointing. For a four star hotel, I think fresh fruit and generally better selection is required. I don't think hotel represents value for money.

Review 106:Hotel is located in great location to walk into old city.

Review 107:Loved the whole look and feel!! Very old world and elegant !!!!!!- The staff were wonderful, helpful and friendly. Wish we had had more time there, we would go back.

Review 108:The room was beautiful, with a lovely view of the Tuscan countryside. The staff recommended wonderful places to eat (La Taverna di San Giuseppe Siena stood out for us), and simply sitting on the hotel terrace was a feast for the senses. We will definitely stay at the Athena Hotel again when we return to Siena.

Review 109:Being on honeymoon we loved the views from our room and the quietness (when the window is closed) the facilities are great and well kept. The breakfast was great apart from the self serve coffee machines. Great location as we walked everywhere and didn't feel tired at all.

Review 110:Location is at the edge of the city, not difficult to walk to the heart of things (7-10 minutes), but even so.

Review 111:Nice place, clean, comfortable, good services.

Review 112:The hotel is well run, clean, smart but not pretensious. The location is brilliant. This was our fifth stay there and hopefully we will return there

Review 113:The hotel felt rural despite being within Siena's walls, they view from our bedroom was fantastic, typical Tuscan landscape. The bedroom was spacious and very clean and the bathroom has a tub and shower. Breakfast was typical; fruit, yoghurt, cereals, pastries, cheese, meat and eggs with good coffee.

Review 114:WiFi doesn't work properly. We have two smartphones (Nexus and Galaxy S4) and Asus laptop. Nexus worked but with constant disconnections. Galaxy and Laptop didn't work at all. All three worked properly on 3rd floor (breakfast room). I asked few guests from 7th floor: all complained on WiFi on this floor. Pillows were too stiff for me but OK for my wife.

Review 115:View from our room (Executive Double on 7th floor), helpful staff, facilities, general Hotel appearance.

Review 116:rooms bit dates, but still comfy and clean

Review 117:nice and proff receptionists quick checkin/out good wifi, good breakf. walking distance to main attractions, free parking!!!

Review 118:Bad smell in the bathroom, wifi in room not good

Review 119:room with a fantastic view 716 Staff very helpful Complimentary bottle of wine in room on arrival as we were on our honeymoon

Review 120:My amazing view, the location wasn't directly in the center, which I liked, helpful & hard working staff, especially Christophe, the bar-man! The housekeeping was fantastic, the ladies were so friendly and accommodating.

Review 121:Nothing to dislike

Review 122:Quiet location with just a 10 minute walk to Il Campo. Staff were wonderful with a special mention to Massimo and Aldo who were very professional and accommodating. Roof top terrace was fantastic for watching the sun go down with a long cool drink!

Review 123:Selection at breakfast could be improved.

Review 124:Excellent location, clean, good size rooms, free parking. What else do you need? We had our room upgraded which was an additional nice twist to our stay. We had a jaw dropping view on Tuscan countryside which is something you want to imagine when falling asleep.

Review 125:Athena is an outstanding hotel in beautiful Siena. We stayed there for over a week and felt very much at home. The staff was wonderful and always available to take care of the smallest need. The restaurant (breakfast and dinner) was excellent with superb wait staff. The location was perfect. Quiet area with wonderful views but close enough to main attractions. Our group of four would highly recommend.
