Reviews for Hotel Moderno

Review 1:Wifi didn't work in our room but worked well in the lounge

Review 2:Staff were very friendly and helpful Breakfast and dinner were very good Location good easy walk from railway station and close to old city

Review 3:welcoming relaxed ambience. Despite being very busy staff were friendly and efficient. loved the location right by the escalators into the old town. Food and service in Restaurant was both good reasonably priced.

Review 4:Very nice people. Liana (the owner) is a very nice lady. Luigi, Gabriel and Paulo helped us with tours and maps. Everybody so kind. Excellent location. Thanks to all

Review 5:Traffic noise can be a nuisance but not a deal breaker. Aircon a bit noisy.

Review 6:Simple comfortable accommodation providing everything required for a short stay. Great access by escalator to the old city. Good value for money.

Review 7:Free parking is available just for 2-3 small cars. If you don't drive fiat 500 or similar model you will have to pay 10€ extra charge Moreover I could not use wifi as it was disconnected every minute. Ficilities and furnitures looked very old and dirty. Our room was stinky and unpleasant. The hotel is definitely not worth the price.

Review 8:The hotel is situated really close to the escalator leadint to the center of the old town.

Review 9:Parking is available, but is tricky as it is spread over a few (very close by) locations, and gets packed quickly. Restaurant is so-so. We preferred the food in the city

Review 10:Superb location, right opposite escalator which goes up to the city. May not look much, but very nice inside. Helpful staff, clean rooms, pleasant garden, comfy lounge

Review 11:bed sagged in the middle. Felt like sleeping in a canoe, wifi didn't work in room...had to go down to lobby to connect. Security was a concern. Our window was adjacent to the balcony of the apartment next door. Scary looking neighbors. Bathroom not cleaned very well.

Review 12:Good location, good breakfast. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 13:We had a slow internet in our room. Downstairs in the lobby was much better.

Review 14:Breakfast very good. Hotel is right near escalators up to Siena. Staff helpful. Bathroom updated.

Review 15:The hotel once was a grand and luxureous hotel, but that was a long time ago... everything is in need of renovation, and very old. The bed was very hard.

Review 16:The location is perfect for a visit to Siena, located opposite the street to the escalators into the beutiful city of Siena. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good.

Review 17:Some people might find the room a little hot, though I didn't mind that.

Review 18:The staff were extremely helpful, hotel is well-located, close to elevators up to the old city of Siena. Quiet in the room, despite being on a busy road

Review 19:Some rooms smells mood, but when we asked to change for another room, the hotel helped and changed as soon as posible.

Review 20:This is a perfect place to stay and visit Siena. 2 minutes to access the old village. Wonderful localization.

Review 21:The air condition unit was old and very noisy.

Review 22:Excellent location within a few minutes of the escalator into the centre of Siena. Friendly staff, who spoke either English or Spanish, so we could communicate well. We could see our car in its parking place from our room.

Review 23:Insect bites from sitting in the garden for the evening!

Review 24:Great location - could not be better. Outside the city, so car parking was not a problem. The hotel is just opposite some escalators that take you direct into Siena centre. Lovely food in the outside garden restaurant. Old-fashioned place but with character.

Review 25:Wifi did not reach the room had to go to reception which doesn't have A/C, for summer time it gets pretty hot

Review 26:It's an old hotel but the rooms are all new, it has A/C in the room. Great location, near the escalator that takes you to city center

Review 27:The towels were to thin, would prefer the regular type of towel. More variety of foods for breakfast (eg. eggs, more variety of juices).

Review 28:Location, great wi fi connection so we were free to explore the history of the sites before and after the visit.

Review 29:Air conditioning was not up to the job, bathroom floor very slippy when wet, very noisy road but we did have ear plugs so we were ok.

Review 30:Friendly staff, great location.

Review 31:Exceptionally hot weather - 39degrees the day we arrived The air conditioning unit struggled to cope When we explained to the very helpful staff they gave us a large fan which really helped

Review 32:Excellent location Super breakfast Extremely helpful staff

Review 33:I accidentally was charged twice, but the manager was very helpful in arranging a refund.

Review 34:The location was great, the people were wonderful, the breakfast was nice, the decor was pleasant, the room was nice, had air conditioning and wifi, very comfortable.

Review 35:Hotel and rooms are old. Hotel moderno was probably modern in the 70s! But not anymore

Review 36:Location , service, cleanliness, oldish looks are also fun for those who appreciate this

Review 37:Quite dated interior. The room had a sort of a terrace overlooking a garden with no door to it, just a window.

Review 38:Comfortable location near the elevators that lead up into the historical center. Helpful staff.

Review 39:Air conditioning did not function so we had to move to another room in the middel of the night because the room we got was much to hot.And the restaurant was only Open for breakfest due to holiday for the Cook.

Review 40:Location and staff.

Review 41:No bad experience but the hotel itself wasn't air conditioned so could be too warm to sit in lounge/bar. Also the garden wasn't particularly nice.

Review 42:The location was excellent - right opposite the escalator into the city. Beds were comfortable and air conditioned. Staff were very friendly and there was a car park space right opposite the hotel.

Review 43:Noisy aircon made it hard to sleep (too loud to sleep with it on, too hot to sleep with it off), noisy road outside, towels incredibly thin (like tea towels), car parking hit-and-miss (we parked on the street outside).

Review 44:Great location, friendly staff, good size room with a great bathroom, nice to have a little garden to relax in between trips into the city (don't forget your mosquito cream though).

Review 45:The air conditioning wasn't working properly and it was difficult to sleep.

Review 46:The location was good to enter the old town, friendly staff, parking available for our vehicle, clean

Review 47:The elevator door struck my left shoulder While bringing suitcase into it. It was further aggravated at the Milano Airport trying to catch a bag that was Falling. It still bothers me, have to see a Doctor.

Review 48:Location, ambiance, staff

Review 49:Old non refurbished hotel, still clean and reasonable breakfast the price should be lower - we paid less for a studio 5 min away from the duomo in florence which was very modern, new and spacious

Review 50:Close to escalators towards the center and the old city

Review 51:Morte Caldo! 36°C outside. Room maintained 72° inside, however. ..

Review 52:Unforgettable experience with Ricardo Gabby GiGi Moira! Next to escalator to this walkthrough art object of the City of Siena.

Review 53:Although they state escalators near hotel lead to the center of thecity, they never mentioned that after there would be a 1/2 hourincline walk to the center. The hotel itself was anything but modern, asits name would imply.

Review 54:It did have a lovely garden adjoining it.GABRIELLE, A STAFF MEMBER, WAS EXCEPTIONALLY CHEERFUL AND HELPFUL. WITHOUT ASKING, HE TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO PARK OUR CAR, AND HELPED US IN MANY OTHER WAYS. WE HAVEN'T HAD ANYONE, IN ANY PLACE BE SO ATTENTIVE AS GABRIELLE, TO ALL OUR NEEDS.

Review 55:There's nothing Modern about the Hotel Moderno. Rooms and overall hotel feels drab. Otherwise I would recomend this hotel to anyone.

Review 56:Perfect Location and best FREE WiFi so far on my trip.

Review 57:Very old, worn furnishing, old unstuck wallpapers, unclean bathroom - notning in common with the name, given to the hotel. Too expensive price for what is offered.

Review 58:Good location - 20 meters from the elevators to the old city. Free parking (reservation required). Sence of humor of the author of the name of the hotel.

Review 59:Excellent stay for visiting Siena, located right across the escalator to downtown. Thus the old city centre is just within a couple of minutes walking distance. Clean, good and helpful service, very pleasant lobby with bar, big garden for relaxing. 5 minutes taxi drive from the railway station (below 10 Euro).

Review 60:There wasn't even a wifi signal where I stayed, room smelled a little.

Review 61:Tahe location is excellent for exploring Siena and its surroundings. Free parking. Continental breakfast acceptable. .

Review 62:They seem tobe updating it roomby room. We had an older room, with a bit of a mildew problem. still, it was otherwise comfortable.

Review 63:I was travelling with my mother, who became ill. The staff was lovely and accomodating. Great location, free parking really helped..

Review 64:Of course the rooms are dated but commensurate with price.

Review 65:Fair price. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable rooms. Typical mid level hotel with favorable price-feature tradeoffs.

Review 66:Inconsistent wifi, some of the wait staff very stiff, reserved - came across as unfriendly, bored with the guests

Review 67:Very centrally located, ease of getting around, coldness to train and airport inconsistent wifi,

Review 68:Hotel needs some updating to properly reflect the status or grading. Great, helpful staff but the hotel does need some work. Good breakfast. Room was small - ask for room off the road - but adequate, clean enough and did the job.

Review 69:Location, location, location!

Review 70:Although not up top in the town is steps from the series of 5 escalators that take you up top. Natural light into room and bathroom . Windows open for fresh air. Large comfortable bath in large bathroom.

Review 71:The room did get a little stuffy - unfortunately opening the window for air meant we got all the noise from the main street which went quite late into the night. The walls were a little thin from our room so we could hear a lot of loud talking at night and in the morning - was bearable from our room though since we were at the end of a long hallway on the second level. The website claims that the Wi-Fi "works in all areas" but it did not work in our room and have read a few other reviews claiming the same thing - not a big deal since we weren't there to sit on the internet anyway. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on our first night and it wasn't very good - food was not cooked all the way through, suggest eating elsewhere.

Review 72:We are a group of students so the hotel was fairly affordable for us and we enjoyed staying there. We stayed in room 30 and it was absolutely huge with a load of space and a nice ensuite. The beds were large and okay to sleep on - no complaints. The breakfast included was reasonable; it was mostly cakes and sandwiches. The location is FANTASTIC and right across from a set of escalators that take you to the main area of Siena. Staff were helpful and polite as well.

Review 73:Staff didn't seem very interested to help. First morning at breakfast we were completely ignored. Then we realised they were intent on organising the breakfast room for a wedding so guests were a bit of a nuisance! Toaster was ridiculously slow. On our last morning the receptionist was very nice and helpful (the wedding was finished!).

Review 74:Away from any noise

Review 75:They didn't have an iron!

Review 76:Friendly, helpful staff Rooms well cleaned daily No noise Just a short escalator up to the centre of Siena - 5/10 minutes walk

Review 77:No Wi-Fi in my room but available outside it and in the lobby. Shower was full width of bathroom, about 1.5m but only about 0.45m front to back so too small. I couldn't find an English TV channel.

Review 78:Good position for escalator to City Handy parking. reasonable breakfast.

Review 79:The staff, the location and the atmosphere are excellent. I have been before and will come again!! The escalator which takes you directly into Siena is very conveniently located across the road. The view of the Tuscan landscape from our window was breathtaking and the gardens is a great asset to enjoy in good weather.

Review 80:I can't think of anything to say here

Review 81:Very friendly staff who spoke a bit of English The breakfast was very good Having a car park near the hotel

Review 82:- walls were paper thin - twin beds were two different sizes - rooms were dark - wi-fi was very slow

Review 83:- Excellent location if you have a car - free parking

Review 84:A bell boy named Gabriel was the only friendly person in the hotel.

Review 85:Non English speaking staff and fairly friendly, did not feel welcomed by front desk staff.

Review 86:Tiny room and not very clean. I haven't stayed in 3 star hotel before with plastic cups for orange juice. Very disappointing.

Review 87:Wifi good. Location good.

Review 88:No pool, but this was not a deal breaker for us. The walls are thin and doors, windows etc old and creaky so would recommend earplugs, or request an end of corridor room next time

Review 89:We spent one night at the Hotel Moderno - not very modern at all but character- full, easy to find, clean and comfortable with friendly helpful staff and awesome food!! The old centre of Sienna was reachable in just a few minutes on foot without having to negotiate thin and winding streets. The escalator to the top is just across the road and free! Wifi was good inside the hotel, but not so strong out in the garden.

Review 90:Occasionally noisy at night with a major road nearby even though our room overlooked the garden. However, an air conditioner is provided, so can close the window and still stay cool. Parking lot was jammed and a challenge to navigate at times.

Review 91:Terrific location across the street from the escalators up to old Siena. A misnamed hotel as it is nothing fancy but we found it clean and comfortable and an ample breakfast was provided. Rotating staff on the desk was of variable helpfulness but all spoke some English.

Review 92:City tax is exagerated. Otherwise nothing in particular was wrong. The hotel could benefit with a more modern look and attencion to details

Review 93:Nice location, near de electric stairs that take to city center. Acceptable breakfast. Staff was very nice and helpfull when needed.

Review 94:No air con in room. Bed and pillows hard. Shower curtain got in wayduring showering.

Review 95:Safe garage parking for our classic car at only 5 Euro per night. Staffvery helpfull.

Review 96:My wife had a toothache and the staff were very helpful in locating a dentist. Hotel not quite as polished as the pictures but great position for access to old town. Restraunt great.

Review 97:Room was very run down - though the cleaning staff was good, theycouldn't do anything about things like the general mildew betweenthe tiles, rust stains on the wall behind the sink and toilet, dirtypeeling edges of wallpaper, and grimy old carpet in the halls. Showerdrain couldn't handle shower flow and kept flooding. Had to keep thewater on low and turn it off constantly. Hotel claims it has a garden -what they don't say is you can't use it unless you buy fromtheir restaurant. We chose this hotel thinking we could relax in thegarden with our own drinks, but it turned out they don't allow that.Very deceptive advertising. Many times we encountered staff at frontdesk who didn't speak any English. Breakfast selection was largelycheapest quality meats along with store-bought bread/cake items. Westayed at quite a few booking.com places over the course of a 3 weektour of Europe; this was the most expensive, worst quality of them all.

Review 98:The one thing we liked was the location/convenience by car - theyhave free parking and are right across from the multi-escalator spot toget up to the historical center. The unit was as clean as the staffcould get it. The breakfast room was also attractive and well-kept.

Review 99:Creaky beds.

Review 100:Very convenient for people arriving by car - offers free parking and is very close to the escalators to the city center, saving you the worries about the ZTL. Good breakfast.

Review 101:Limited choice at breakfast internet only possible in the lobby area

Review 102:Ease of access with car Free parking facilities 3 minute ride up escalators to the city centre

Review 103:Two beds - one was fine. The other was very poor - sagged from being sat on.

Review 104:Being across the stree to the escalators to old town. Quiet restaurant in the gardens so the hotel property. Good shower.

Review 105:A bit old in style, but besides that it was a good hotel for our short stay.

Review 106:Great location, and outside of the ZTL limit. Helpful staff, good food for breakfast, and comfortable stay with great soundproof windows. Enough free parking space. Clean rooms; ours had a little fridge that was convenient for beverages and medicine.

Review 107:the bathroom sink leaked, the floor was wet all the time, the shower door was hanging off, the water temperature was impossible to control and it was all dirty. the room was dirty, the bedside plug socket fell into the wall when attempted to use. the double window was broken and couldn't be locked close, so it was very noisy all night long. it took an hour to open the garage the following morning and move vehicles to allow us to leave. very poor value for money.

Review 108:Facilities were old and run down. A/C leaked, shower leaked, A/C didn't work and room was too hot

Review 109:Good location. Good breakfast with friendly staff

Review 110:This was the most expensive place we stayed, not only in Italy, but in our entire trip to three European countries. Yet, the room was the smallest and most crowded, though not uncomfortable. It would also be a nice plus if a computer and printer were available to print out boarding passes. A staff member was very helpful in sending us to a nice place where this could be done cheaply, but it is always more convenient to have this service available at the hotel. Finalljy, I wanted to say that both the items mentioned in this section did not distract us from a very pleasant stay in beautiful Sienna.

Review 111:The staff at the front desk as well as in the breakfast area and restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful. Along with one other place in Spain, the staff here made us fell especially welcome. I appreciated the proximity to the escalator entrance to the walled city of Sienna. I also appreciated that there was a restaurant on site for when we were too tired to dine up in the walled section. Of the three places we stayed in Italy (Montorosa in the Cinque Terra and Florence were the other two), Sienna was the loveliest with its charming streets, buildings, and alleyways, colorful celebration of their Palio, warm people and lack of graffiti. Finally, the owner's art collection added to the ambiance of the place.

Review 112:Our room was a little cramped but as we had booked with such short notice it wasn't a big deal.

Review 113:We were in Siena for an afternoon & loved it so much we decided to stay a night. We were lucky to find the Hotel Moderno. Location is excellent, just outside the old city & beside the elevators that take you into it. The breakfast was very good & the staff super friendly & helpful.

Review 114:- the hotel is situated directly at a main traffic street - very (!) clearaudient - a/c was not working properly and - when working - very loud - low waterpressure - mattresses were old, not really comfortable - very simple breakfast, the buns were old

Review 115:- only a few steps away from the city

Review 116:Needed a little more shelf space in the bathroom. We got quite lost even with a GPS! Be careful not to drive through the city walls, likely to get a fine! Wi- fi not accessible in your room!!!

Review 117:Spacious bathroom, comfy beds, great dinning room and tasty breakfast. The staff were also friendly. Lovely big lounge area.

Review 118:Wifi was only accessible in Common area/Bar.

Review 119:Hotel is Clean and Staff was Friendly. The escalator to the old town was just feet from the hotel. We enjoyed a lovely walk down the hill back to our hotel after an evening in the old town.

Review 120:To few parking places and not easy to reach, steep down. Breakfast is restricted WiFi is not wording on the room we had

Review 121:Location is perfect, nearby escalator to the Old centre.

Review 122:Tiny, tiny rooms. When we checked in, the person working the desk did not speak a word of English. Wifi barely worked at all. It would come in and out to the point that we just quit trying. The hotel was okay for a night if you were out all day, but not much more than that.

Review 123:Food was okay and air conditioner worked.

Review 124:The wifi and the aircon both need to be modernised. The aircon was an old style large box that blew cold air upwards with no method of circulation. We asked for a fan which helped but overall the room was still too warm. The wifi seemed to work for a few minutes and then cut off, the hotel needs a better service provider and more routers to make the wifi more usable.

Review 125:Great location, very close to the escalator up to the main town. There were parking facilities which was great for us. The breakfast was brilliant, a wide variety of pastries, bread and cereal. The room was large and the beds were comfy. The staff were very friendly and the food from the restaurant in the gardens was lovely.

Review 126:A friendly stuff. Easy access to th city center. And a free parking.

Review 127:Easy to find and to park a car, very nice staff

Review 128:A very faded lady

Review 129:Courteous staff

Review 130:Name is a bit tongue in cheek...decor was probably "Modern " in 1960!

Review 131:Great staff and great location.

Review 132:There was a bar area where guest can sit so they don't have to be in their rooms all the time

Review 133:Every simple hotel

Review 134:Next to the old city

Review 135:Close to lift so you can walk to center easily.

Review 136:Bed was very noisy

Review 137:The receptionist was fantastic but all the staff were great.

Review 138:Bad breakfast
