Reviews for Aarons Hotel Sydney - by 8Hotels

Review 1:Some of our party (7rooms) didn't have renovated rooms they were outdated and not so pretty but were still clean.

Review 2:The staff were great. We had a renovated room that has been fitted out beautifully. It felt fresh and clean. Great to see noise reduction windows and blinds that block out the light.

Review 3:Staff were quite rude and unhelpful. Very lazy. Made us wait half hour just to have someone check if I room had been made up. They need to update some information on there website as I was made to pay double the bond just because I paid in cash which then left me short of money to use whilst staying in Sydney. Staff was also quite rude when I pointed out it did not state this on there website.

Review 4:Nothing like images which are advertised. Felt like we were in an old closet. Bathroom was unacceptable in first room, no shower curtain making floor drenched when you shower. No lamps in first room, only lamp in second room had no lightbulb. No bedside tables and there is a funny smell throughout. Rooms are old and tired. We booked for a double standard room, was nothing like advertised, and the second room we were given was only better because it had a badly renovated additional room with a single bed which we could store our luggage in. This room definitely used to be like the bathroom in the first room.

Review 5:The staff were friendly and upon requesting another room they were helpful. Location was great, everything you need is located nearby. Room is cleaned somewhat well everyday when you request it.

Review 6:The bath room was small and ugly. The wardrobe was very dirty (the shelves where full of dust). The curtain was short so a piece of plywood was covering the window.

Review 7:The location is a very good site.

Review 8:The rooms are basic, (bar fridge, kettle, tea and coffee, air con), but our room was spotless, and is cleaned daily, (including fresh towels), the beds were fresh and quite comfortable and except for a few young loud guests, who stopped the noise when asked, it wasn't too noisy, even though you are in the middle of the city. We were no more than 20 minutes walk from all the touristy things we did. There are plenty of meal options close by, which was terrific for the five of us.

Review 9:For the price we paid, we expected to be in a hotel that at least had sound-proof rooms; that is, you could hear anyone in the hallway outside and outside the windows which were on a main road. We heard every truck, car, loud person on the footpath outside - all night. The hotel staff were helpful and moved us the next night but it was still noisy in the hallway. It was also very run down and the bathroom was tiny for a family room, especially in the first room. It was also quite rusty and dirty, and the fridge was very smelly. There was a huge hole in the curtain where the old air conditioner had been removed - when I complained they blu-tacked a piece of cardboard to the window. There was also no non-stair options to get to our room so we had to make the toddler get out of the pram to carry it up stairs to get to our room. On review, we could have gotten adjoining rooms in the nearby Novotel for a similar price per night and we should have done that.

Review 10:Location was the main redeeming feature of this hotel. Oh, and the staff were quite friendly and helpful on our second day but not very nice on the first.

Review 11:Walking the stairs between 2nd and 3rd floors was inconvenient.

Review 12:Close to chinatown. Was upgraded to bigger room on arrival for free but it didn't have lift to the 3rd floor which was very inconvenient due to the baby.

Review 13:i had to go home.

Review 14:its so close to all sydney has to offer.the staff go beyond their duty to make you feel welcome and comfortable.will definately be staying again in the future.thank you.

Review 15:Very noisy room (234) never want that room again, one window was blanked out with cardboard and didn't look very pleasing, We had cockroaches in the bathroom on the first night, the young man on duty sprung in to action and sprayed the bathroom however the floor was never swept or cleaned the whole time we were there, there was one dead insect in one corner that had never been removed from the first night. he did give us a bottle of wine for our trouble..

Review 16:The hotel was very handy to Darling Harbour, china town and central station

Review 17:The lift not working when I had my mother with me, she couldn't walk the stairs

Review 18:The staff helping changing rooms because my mother couldn't make the stairs

Review 19:Somebody wrote a review on this earlier before I booked the hotel, I did not believe it and proceeded to book it. Huge mistake. Up to you if you want to believe me or not, but what I write here is true:Worst case of door slamming by housekeeping staff. The doors in the hotel do not have soft closing, and they definitely do not bother closing it properly. They would rapped loudly on each door on the floor, yelling 'Housekeeping!!', no answer and started the door slamming routine. Just leaving it slammed as they leave (from fully opened). From 6am onwards, relentlessly. There were also a bunch of fellow guests in a room accomodating multiple beds, they left their door open and talked from room to room in loud voices. Nearly did not sleep at all during my overnight stay although I specifically requested 'quiet room, away from door slamming area' as I have read a review on door slamming but I thought it must be just one case. Huge mistake.Cocroach in the bathroom. Bathroom looks scary and I've been told by staff it is 200 yrs old.Lift do not work and no help with luggage. Very old lift. I've only got one so no complain there but there was a lady alone with a baby and pram and luggages and I wonder how she'd managed.Icing on the cake - accidentally drank water from the tap water in bathroom while brushing teeth, within a couple of hours I started vomitting in public toilets and discovered I had food poisoning. Other food I ate were well cooked and I only drank mineral/bottle water and I might be wrong but I would suspect strongly that the tap water was culprit.Look, location is superb, and if you are not jetlagged and would be up by 5am then it's fine. But as I said to the receptionist, if I'm staying in a hotel chances are I'm not from here, and you do need to be considerate on the guests' time difference. Just use bottled water for brushing teeth, and maybe bring Baygon for cockroach too.

Review 20:Close to the central train station, easy to find and close to food centre etc. Reception are looks nice and newly renovated. Clean bedsheet. Lady receptionist was nice enough.

Review 21:No free WiFi $100 deposit for damages to be paid on check in No Breakfast No use of any toilet facilities once you've checked out of your room

Review 22:Great location

Review 23:Out dated, in the middle of renovations to some areas. No thought for type of client. Poorly planned room layout, badly needs renovating.

Review 24:Location was OK

Review 25:The room was really dirty and clearly hadn't had a proper clean or coat of paint in a long time. I don't even want to know what the stuff on the wall was. The windows didn't close properly and there was no insulation in the walls so you could hear everything from the street and the neighbouring rooms (even across the hall). Probably could have had a similar quality of stay by booking a private room in a hostel for less than half the price.

Review 26:Friendly staff, central location

Review 27:When we checked in, we were 'upgraded' to a family room which had two bunk beds and a double bed which was not what we had booked in the first place. Upon entering our room there was a hole in the carpet, the bathroom smelt putrid, the shower was small and the general room was not worth paying $200 for, especially considering there was no breakfast included. I'm not sure if the standard or deluxe double rooms are better quality but I did not get what I paid for. I'm not impressed with this hotel whatsoever.

Review 28:The bed was comfortable.

Review 29:Rooms are very old fashion and have a rather low standard; not very clean; I had to pay 50 AUS $ extra for a one week of a slow Internet connection; every morning at around 5 a.m. I was waked up by a carbage truck.

Review 30:Location in China Town close to UTS was perfect for me.

Review 31:security issues where the side door was opened during the day and anyone could get the lift to go up to the rooms. Specially after having a experience at night with a lot of screeming on the corridor.

Review 32:staff

Review 33:Nothing really. We weren't expecting luxury for $104.00, and we didn't get it. What we got was what we needed. A clean comfortable room with our own bathroom.

Review 34:Hotel is within walking distance from Central Railway Station. Again short walk to the magic that is Chinatown. You get what you paid for.... A budget priced room that was clean and comfortable and a private loo and lively hot shower. We shall book this hotel again.

Review 35:The rooms were very disappointing for the rate advertised and the impression given on the website. Walls and carpets were disgusting- needed to buy air freshener on arrival. Much more than a housekeeping issue.

Review 36:Nothing- won't be staying with Aaron's again. Glad I didn't pay full price.

Review 37:OVERPRICED.. Room was basic, felt very old and tired, lift broke down during our stay. Far too NOISY - may as well have been sleeping outside!

Review 38:Location was great

Review 39:Will stay again. Found it even better then I expected. Very convenient but I didn't have a car maybe that could have been difference. I traveled my rail and it was so easy for me on this trip.

Review 40:Book in time was 3pm 3.15pm room not ready, updated to delux? Nothing was delux, TV didn't even work properly.

Review 41:Accessability to where we needed to go

Review 42:Didn't like wake up calls from builders at the back .Didn't enjoy building work within hotel wasn't told off this. Little disappointed the lift never seemed to be in working order .

Review 43:Location ,staff overall price fair Very central

Review 44:Room was dirty and noisy (significant noise from adjoining room). No shampoo, soap or flannels in room.

Review 45:Staff were friendly and helpful. Check-in and check-out were easy and quick.

Review 46:Everything. Used towels when we entered into room, flashing lights(lights were gone) and stinking room, unpolite receptionist, we booked for 2 nights but cancelled the second nigth and booked in ibis for the second nigth.

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:there are a couple of things I didn't like was the lift wasn't working I didn't mind the stairs but if I was elderly it wouldn't be very good also linen piled up at the exit door

Review 49:That it was a very friendly environment the staff were excellent and they were wonderful

Review 50:Overpriced for a tired supposedly upgraded room. Definitely not an upgrade. Price was also a trick - advised for $184 (approx) but no refund if required at this price the real price $209 - for a bed and a very very very tired bathroom. Friends staying near by in an apartment with pool and gym $10 more. Definitely feel ripped off - would have to think about trusting booking.com as well

Review 51:location

Review 52:The lift was not working so we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to get to our room. Such a struggle. An elderly person would have found this very difficult. A disabled person would have found it impossible.

Review 53:We got upgraded to a room with a balcony as the lift was not working. So sitting out on the balcony was nice.

Review 54:The hotel was under renovation which means some disturbance was there. Wifi services is not free. That's disappointing. In the 21st century, can clients still expect to pay for internet connections in hotels?

Review 55:The location is excellent with all facilities nearby. Stations, market and business outlets are within reach and at walking distances. Staff are helpful.

Review 56:The booking site put us in the wrong room so we ended up paying $160 for bunkbeds. The room was the size of a shoebox and the only source of natural light was from a skylight. there were cracked tiles and mould in the shower. Don't be fooled by the smart looking reception.

Review 57:Location was the only positive.

Review 58:Nil

Review 59:The hotel is centrally located in Chinatown and easily accessible to tourist attractions eg the Hay Market, the Fish Market and others. Public transport is also easily available, including the Light Rail which is only a stone's throw away.

Review 60:As the hotel is in the middle of renovations we had the pleasure of receiving what I'm presuming is one of the worst rooms! The curtain has a piece cut out of it with a black board nailed to the window, the bunk bed was missing one post so could not be used for safety reasons and the hair dryer was broken! The bathroom was also badly in need of renovations as it was like one large plastic moulded piece with a dodgy sliding door which didn't offer much privacy. There wasn't much sound proofing provided by the windows as it was extremely noisy, it felt like people were yelling right outside your window and we were on the second floor

Review 61:The staff were friendly

Review 62:Our room was fine but our two girls had not realised that their "twin" room would have only 2 bunk beds from which they couldn't even watch the TV

Review 63:Extremely helpful reception staff

Review 64:The room I had was a family room queen bed and 2 bunks the room was dirty , the cleaners obviously don't do their jobs properly THERE WAS A CONDOM WITH FLUID ?? I felt sorry for the lovely young woman from reception who had the grotty job of removing the condom , armed with gloves and disinfect spray she removed it from wardrobe door ;/ in front of my bed. :/ the insides of wardrobe had old shoe box left there , obviously the cleaning staff don't check in drawers cupboards to clean etc the sliding door on bathroom would not close , keeping in mind this is a room for possibly 6 guests the toilet cistern constantly leaked water the 2 cards I was given to enter room didn't work properly , I had to get the very helpful young woman at main desk to let me into my room :/ So I would not stay there if I had a family of young children , unless you previewed your room for cleanliness etc before letting your family into room

Review 65:In close vicinity to transport , shopping and Darling Harbour

Review 66:Dishonest cleaners. I left a sleve that holds a water bottle in the fridge. I phoned the hotel the following day and reported that I had left it in fridge. Office done a check & called me back to tell me it could not be found. This is not good enough.

Review 67:Happy with location

Review 68:Didn't have Foxtel so couldn't watch the Rugby World Cup ... and for family we also couldn't go to a bar to watch as under 18 not allowed in the door.

Review 69:Location was great just across the road from Paddy's Market.

Review 70:Noisy garbage trucks below Curtains didnt cover windows had to get bulldog clips from reception to hold them over window. Old cheap furniture. Rusty bathroom shower rod. Poky odd shaped room. Gap under door. Restaurant in building opposite looked into our room.

Review 71:Bed very comfortable Fantastic location

Review 72:it was slightly old in the décor and there were a large number of school children on the floor and they seemed to congregate outside my room

Review 73:That I was able to get ma booking

Review 74:The room didn't look like the pictures at all. The bathroom smelt through the room and I had an accident in the bed on the first night which was obvious and the cleaners never changed my sheets. They even strategically placed pillows off centre to cover the mark.

Review 75:The staff were lovely and helpful.

Review 76:The lift broke which wasn't two bad as there is only 2 floors. The windows desperately need updating. The sun shone through right onto my head. The water took forever to hear up.

Review 77:The staff were great and we lived being in china town.

Review 78:I styed there before but It's not the same anymore, now there are no buses running in George street, but... very good for the young ones.

Review 79:It was nice and clean

Review 80:The stairs were a bit of a challenge as I have a bad wrist and carrying luggage didn't help. Was worth the hassle though to have a great room

Review 81:Was perfect in location to the course I was completing in the city. Nice and quite. Shower was nice and hot. Booked in again next week

Review 82:was ignored by staff when trying to check in, after waiting several minutes was served.when checking out at 8.10am no staff at front desk, 1 staff members arrived several minutes later, 4 people waiting, check out completed finally after more than 10 minutes, only 1 staff member on duty at this time of day is poor service

Review 83:For 189 AUD a night, I got a room with a broken window! Hopefully it was not so cold in Sydney, but it was difficult to sleep with the noise coming from the street! How can it be possible?

Review 84:nothing to complain about

Review 85:Was clean and compared to the last time i stayed the makeover looks really good. For a night out and a place to crash the price and comfort of Aarons is not something you can pass-by.

Review 86:Everything!!! This hotel is full of cockroaches!!! Informed receptions but was ignored. There were cockroaches crawling on the bed heads and bathroom, I felt so itchy staying there! Reception staff was unaccomadating & cold. Housekeeping was poor, room always seems damp. Worst hotel EVER!!!!

Review 87:Location

Review 88:Sometime, I heard TV sound from next room at night ;(

Review 89:I stayed here for eight night w/ my boyfriend. Hotel staff are very kind and good service. After all, the location is great!! We can go to darling harbor, central station by walk!!! That's awesome. Thank you for your kindness. If I go Sydney someday, I'll stay here again.

Review 90:There was a short electric interruption

Review 91:The location is excellent. It's within walking distance to train station. It served my purpose as i was attending a seminar at Quantas Credit Arena which is near the hotel. There are also a few halal restaurants nearby. It's also within walking distance to Darling Harbour

Review 92:The bathroom Had a spaceship/submarine feel to it and the shower head was made for small children and didn't have adult hight capabilities.

Review 93:Great value, great access to city, the Reno looks good!

Review 94:Shower. The shower head was not worth having. It only had one setting. There strong streams. If you turned it around nothing came out. There were also no bed side table lights. Only had a main light. Windows could be opened and the kids could climb out. VERY DANGEROUS. especially when they were located next to the kids beds. Pretty sure this is illegal.

Review 95:Location and helpful staff price for a family room tight in town.

Review 96:As above. I didn't like everything about the room.

Review 97:The building is old and was under renovation and I wasn't told of this prior to my booking. The lift wasn't working either and had to use the steps carrying heavy bags. The TV was not working. Room was noisy from the traffic outside. The curtain couldn't close properly. Overall I was disappointed.

Review 98:I didn't like pretty much anything It ruined what should have been agreat family holiday and I wasnt made aware id renovations you shouldtravel to Melbourne and see what real hotels look like!!

Review 99:Not much at all it was dirty and our window had catboard in the window Ihad children with me and checked out at 2am it was that bad

Review 100:no iron in room dirty glass which stayed dirty for the entire stay 4 days only on entrance to double bed it is pushed up against a wall not for seniors at all and the noise all night was defening from the butchers across the road there are regulations govening noise polution i beg the owners to follow this up and act and i was on the top floor oh my god having to travrl down to use iron was also a trial seeing how it is the ironing board from hell matched only by the dirty iron...dont stay if you need to look your best such a pity

Review 101:the staff on early morning departure

Review 102:Slight odd smell and one of the curtains in the room was well short so a fair amount of light came into the room at night

Review 103:Staff friendly & room is basic but still quite comfortable.

Review 104:Dirty room & bathroom. Terrible home keeping. Not access to lift most of the times because of construction. Leaking roof while rainning

Review 105:Nothing. Just being in city

Review 106:Very basic, small double bed one side up against the wall. sink where toilet was jutted out so it was a sqeeze past to get to the toilet. Outside noise very loud so getting to sleep was difficult.

Review 107:Right in the city.

Review 108:We loved your location, the staff who we dealt with were very courteous. One young lady who checked us in and out was absolutely fantastic, she helped us with lots in between always with a smile, nothing was too much trouble for her. If all your staff are like her you should always get top marks. The selby clan from uk.

Review 109:Staff didn't tell us the right directions to the car parking. So you ended up paying more When we went to collect our car n pay the man said this is always happening.

Review 110:Clean comfortable bed good location

Review 111:The bathroom was clean but so old- the shower had broken taps. The curtains were ripped and the window hadn't been opened in years and when we opened it paint and dust flew everywhere. The aircon didn't work. The stairs to the street had the door left open all night and We didn't feel safe as anyone could access the hotel. Refurb needed.

Review 112:Location and the history of the hotel.

Review 113:We paid $344 for this room and it was awful, the bed was sunken, room was un clean the bathroom looked like it was about to fall through the room at any time, the door that led to a balcony would not shut, nor would the windows the outdoor balcony was boarded up with ply This room is only worth $100 a night , that is being generous,

Review 114:If you are not used to traffic noise (eg. Horns, Screeching tyres) this hotel might be a bit hard to get to sleep in.

Review 115:Friendly staff that were always willing to help where they could.

Review 116:Doors and walls of room were pretty dirty. Bed were very clean though. Going through an upgrade at the moment so maybe will improve

Review 117:Staff were lovely and friendly

Review 118:Very poor room and very noisy. After first sleepless night the young receptionist arranged a changed room to one of the new renovated rooms which was very good.

Review 119:Fire alarm went off at 8.30am on Sunday morning...a false alarm. We had flown direct via China from Paris and had wanted to sleep in.

Review 120:Close to Central Station, Chinatown and Darling Harbour.

Review 121:I had to make two separate bookings for the same weekend as I had two different groups for two different nights. The group that stayed for two nights got a small family room and the group who arrived on the Saturday and stayed for one night were given a large room. They were able to have the key to this room mid morning which makes me think that it may not have been used the previous night. Also, the two night group would have appreciated our tea/coffee bar being replenished for the second night if that was possible for the fee. We were happy not to have bed linen and towels replaced.

Review 122:Staff were friendly and accommodating. Beds were comfortable. The location was excellent as we were going to the Capitol Theatre for a show. It was great to be able to leave our baggage in a secure place prior to being able to access our rooms and also on checking out.

Review 123:was very dirty all down side of bed Bathroom toilet facilities celings and walls were very dirty Noise was really bad with construction

Review 124:Location great bed comfortable

Review 125:The room was overall clean, but the bathroom had some mould in the corners and dust on the doorframes.

Review 126:The staff was very friendly and I could change check-in time to an earlier time without any difficulties.

Review 127:Fist time I stepped in to room, it smell bad and i found cockroach in bathroom too. At night aircondition didn't work. i ueses fan instead.

Review 128:Friendly staff& location

Review 129:The hotel room was NOT like any of the photographs advertised. It was a lot smaller and the double bed was two single mattress' put together. Was also disappointed that there was no notice of hotel renovations until we got into the room. It was also quite noisy due to traffic and the windows didn't close properly.

Review 130:The location was close to CBD and staff were friendly.

Review 131:- This is a budget hotel, but the room is clean and uses good mattress and clean, crisp linen. - Great value and good size of family room for family travelers and group

Review 132:You need to do your cleaning. We had to ask a cleaner to do a general clean up after one night and provide new towels. The floor wasn't vacuumed that day - and nor was the bathroom particularly clean when we arrived - let in not a minute before 3pm given that 'cleaning' was taking place. Too many male cleaners?

Review 133:The location.

Review 134:Very noisy. Street noise kept us awake and the bed was so uncomfortable we kept sinking in the middle. They are taking a long time to release my deposit of $100. Will never stay there again.

Review 135:Good location.

Review 136:That state a bar but they had young ones lining up to go in there were arguments and fights going on so we did not even go down there they really should make a bar in house.

Review 137:Close to everything

Review 138:Bad air conditioner. Tiny bathroom and bedroom Have seen some cockroaches. Very noisy. Bad smelling in the room.

Review 139:Location is ok except the road construction near the hotel

Review 140:everything. small room crampt full of beds to accomodate backpackers. noisy,no proper heating, uncleaned room and rude staff who'd rather haveprivate telephone calls than help customers! wouldnt recommened EVER.

Review 141:leaving the hotel.
