Reviews for Dormy Inn Kumamoto

Review 1:Our family of 4 loved our room with 2 beds and a tatami area, which was very convenient as it gave us a good sitting space during the day. The hotel was well placed for the shopping areas and the bus station, and the castle was just a pleasant stroll away.

Review 2:It's a bit far from the Kumamoto JR station, need to take tram.

Review 3:Good location, near shopping street. Ramen service and the onsen. Can see Kumamoto castle from the window.

Review 4:This accommodation perfectly matched my expectations. However, I would not recommend to couples looking for atmosphere. This is for family and business travelers looking for practicality and efficiency. For instance, for the castle view, please be aware that there is a building being demolished between the castle and the hotel. The hotel is not responsible for this, and I assume this is the reason there are charging no additional fee for rooms withe castle view.

Review 5:The excellent location, right behind the main bus terminal, at a 2-min walk from the main shopping arcade 7-min walk from the castle. I even had a room with castle view as requested (with no extra charge). The staff was very professional, helpful and super efficient. The bed and linen were pristine and very comfy. The onsen was a real treat, while the massage staff did wonder on my body.

Review 6:They gave efforts in most details, but I was extremely disappointed that a male staff member declined to help us in mailing postcards when we checked out, and did not offer any suggestion on where we could post them by ourselves. When I asked if he could help in reserving a taxi for us, he also declined by making an X with his arms and shaking his head. (when I asked a female staff member to book us a taxi, she provided the service. Obviously it was not the hotel policy that they could not help on this point) I believed his poor English had contributed to his "inpoliteness", which may be unintentional but rather offensive. Before I encountered these problems, I was very impressed by the hotel and its service.

Review 7:The complimentary ramen at night, hot spring (incl one outdoor), the adjustable warm/ cool air conditioning, the humidifier, the shuttle service (or free taxi) to JR station and excellent location

Review 8:The hotel is located near to Kumamoto Castle, about 10min walk and 3min from main covered shopping street. The hotel provided free taxi shuttle to Kumamoto JR Station in the morning so very convenient for train traveler. The hotel has a roof top onsen and also provided free ramen from 930pm to 11pm. All these make this hotel a great one to stay!

Review 9:Indoor onsen is very crowd even at midnight. Dormy Inn Kumamoto should have clear direction how to go from Kumamoto station to the hotel. This should be explained on hotel website. The hotel may consider to have free shutter bus service for guests more often than existing.

Review 10:Good location. Dormin Inn Kumamoto is fully equiped with all what you want.

Review 11:Would be better if it had a tub instead of merely standing shower.

Review 12:Complimentary use of PC with fast internet access and wifi in hotel. Complimentary use of hot spring public bath Complimentary use of washing machine (paid dryer) Comfortable pyjamas Excellent location near the bus terminal and shopping arcade and Kumamoto Castle Good buffet served at value-for-money Privacy doors in the room

Review 13:The room is too small. The air conditioning makes so much noise which i couldn't sleep. At the end I turned it off and opened the windows instead.

Review 14:Location and with hot springs for free.

Review 15:The room was not properly clean at all.. I was very disappointed with the three persons room(come with two beds and fudon at tatami area) I understand the hotel is not so new but you can clearly find the room was not properly clean.

Review 16:The location is alright. Trams station are within 3-5mins walk in front of main shopping area. They have public bath onsen in the hotel which you can relax yourself a little after a tiring day.

Review 17:Hotel staffs can speak English and very helpful. We arrived the hotel late due to accident, so warm to have some hot noddles after hospital . Thank you very much for the pantry lady, still willing to prepare noodles for us at 11:00pm.

Review 18:我原本訂時寫想要3張床,去到見只有2張床, 第三位要自己鋪地床。我跟front desk staff談論了解,但她最後不耐煩說「u have two choices: u change to Tatami room with extra paid; or u rent and pay one more single room. But we have no tatami room now. So you only have one choice. Our conversation is finished!」 What?! Is this their service ? When I heard that our conversation is finished, I felt angry and spoke in Japanese to ask for her name. She then said wait a minute, and pass the phone to her supervisor . Luckily the man explained much clear than her.

Review 19:方便

Review 20:Nil.

Review 21:The location was excellent. Its convenient for us to dine and shop. The breakfast provided was great, woth variety of high quality food. Plus the price was reasonable. I enjoyed the stay there so much, and highly recommend the hotel to visitors of Kumamoto!

Review 22:Great location and staff. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Parking facility was good. Nice onsen. Free use of washing machine. Both the washer and dryer can be locked on request. Sumptuous breakfast spread.

Review 23:Bathroom is nice and clean, though not like shining new and shiningclean. It will be niceR if the shower head is adjustable (I.E. canchange to diff ways on how water coming out from the shower head).

Review 24:1) Free ramen at night as a night snack (didn't try but very considerate offer).2) Hotspring available. 3) Massage threpist - best I ever had... Right on the spots that I need Help but WITHOUT needing to explain. 4) Free shuttle to Kumamoto station in the morning. Shuttle is not a bus, it's a taxi... And like I said, it is free! 5) Free WiFi.

Review 25:The lobby was a little bit small and crowed. The morning check out was a bit time consuming. There would be additional charges for kids.

Review 26:The position was very convenient. It was very easy for us to go to Kumamoto Castle, the Kumamoto Station, shopping streets and dinning places from the hotel. Nearby bus stations are also very easy to access. There were free taxi transportation to and from the Kumamoto Station when check out and check in. The Onsen on the top floor was very impressive. It was big and clean. The water temperature was kind of hot. There were both indoor and outdoor tubs. The Onsen is signature with 6 flowers.

Review 27:Should go green; don't throw away tooth brush and shavers; don't change towels unless requested by guest.

Review 28:Very convenient to walk to attraction and nearby eateries. Breakfast is fantastic with many choices.

Review 29:The telephone is inconveniently placed at the desk instead of at bedside.

Review 30:The breakfast buffet was fabulous! Better than my other stays at Dormy Inn or hotels. The security for the womens' furo is very welcome.

Review 31:Breakfast was a separate charge, which I didn't realize when making the booking.

Review 32:Nice staff, good breakfast, very nice onsen on roof with indoor and outdoor pool.

Review 33:The real onsen in the middle of town was unexpected but was excellent. The breakfast was very good for the low cost we paid. The access from the train station and to many of the restaurants was so convienient.

Review 34:N/A

Review 35:The location is very convenient to go around. Car park at hotel for JPY1,000/day. there is a 大浴埸at 13/F. A higher floor for better view.

Review 36:Very comfortable rooms, helpful and friendly staff, whole hotel very clean, great selection of local and western food at breakfast, added bonus of complementary noodles in the evening, lovely shampoo conditioner and body wash in room, great location for castle shops and local tram and bus services.

Review 37:Location is quite close to shopping. The room wasn't as small as expected. Hot spa in top floor. Free shuttle bus(taxi) to JR station. Very comfortable stay. Definitely recommended.

Review 38:Nothing, it was great

Review 39:The staff were super efficient and considerate throughout the duration of our stay. They provide portal service and free shuttle from hotel to kumamoto station which was excellent. Room was spacious and clean.

Review 40:The room size is a bit compact but it gets everything you need.

Review 41:Great location. We picked this hotel because we wanted to stay in a hotel with onsen. Then, we found out that it is very convenient-located near the bus terminal as we arrived by highway bus from Kurokawa onsen. It is also not far from the pedestrian street. Besides, Kumamoto castle is within a walking distance. Perfect location !!!

Review 42:Some of the staff really do not speak English well but most are proficient in it.

Review 43:The hotel is really near the shopping district, 2 convenience stores and the Kotsu bus terminal for going to Kurokawa and Takachiho. It offers free ramen, free onsen & laundry (there's a charge for dry-cleaning) and the hotel pays attention to security which is very impt for me.

Review 44:We booked the accommodation online and paid a small fee to upgrade to larger room & bed, which was very spacious by Japanese standards. We were amazed that the Onsen on the top floor was free. The onsen definately sells this hotel. There was a sauna and indoor & outdoor onsen as well as cold bath and cleaning room.

Review 45:Room is clean but very tiny, cannot open 2 luggage at the same time.

Review 46:Staffs are nice and happy to help, the hot spring on the top floor are awesome, location is perfect!

Review 47:- room size doesn't accommodate more than 2 pieces full size luggage

Review 48:- free ramen after 9:30pm - Onsen facilities - Laundry facilities great value (no cost to wash, 100 yen for 20min dryer time) - Massage great value (6000 yen for 60 mins)

Review 49:Location is very good, just opposite Kumamoto Kotsu bus center. Onsen and ramen supper are bonus. They also provide free transport to Kumamoto JR station on the day of checkout. Excellent!

Review 50:Small size of room

Review 51:The public bath and noodles for supper are added value. Walking distance to shopping, Kumamoto Castle and restaurants. Hotel provides free shuttle bus to JR station but you have to inform the receptionist during check in. Small size of room but clean & comfortable.

Review 52:We LOVED the hotel! The onsen was well run, with a daily passcode to enter the female side. I felt very safe using the onsen at all hours of the day/night. The hotel offered funky-style PJs rather than the traditional yukata.. cute! The on-site laundry was very clean and convenient, with a nice waiting area adjacent. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and a great bargain! delicious Japanese and western selections. We also used the free shuttle service to the JR station. All in all, a wonderful experience.. 10 out of 10..thanks!

Review 53:Customers in other rooms of our same floor breached the no smoking rule, and the smoke smell was so strong that I could even smell it inside my own room. That was disgusting.

Review 54:The location is really good, just a few minutes walk to the nearest tram station. The reception staff were polite, helpful and prompt to respond to our request for a jumbo taxi to go to Takachiho. The onsen is really the bonus! My family and I did enjoy it. The breakfast and night noodles are delicious, and the staff at the restaurant are polite and efficient.

Review 55:My only complaint was that the price was a little high. Would still stay here again!

Review 56:Everything was great. The staff, the room, our view, the breakfast, everything!

Review 57:Did not offer an extra cot or small futon mattress. Other hotels offer this for additional cost, but this was not even an option.

Review 58:Close to the kotsu bus center which goes directly to Fukuoka airport. Close to the tram and downtown area. The hot spring is great!

Review 59:Can't go in onsen with tattoos even tho I'm not yakuza. Internet was unreliable. Also gliche in booking system where we booked for two people but hotel advised the booking was for one and we had to pay extra.

Review 60:Free ramen

Review 61:Taxi shuttle only available in specific timings in the morning only.

Review 62:5mins walk to shopping street, free delicious noodle from 9.30-11pm, free taxi shuttle to Kumamoto train station and onsen.

Review 63:I definitely like the tranquility of the spa with the traditional Japanese music :o). A highlight if you are able to go. I also liked how helpful the staff was in regards to my room key, parking and leaving baggage after checking out with the front desk. I also like the convenience of the parking in the hotel itself. Overall, a great time for me and my girlfriend. I would definitely go there again if I ever go back to Kumamoto City. It is also quite near to the main area of Kamitori as well as Kumamoto Castle. Dormy Inn, thanks again!! -Ramon

Review 64:the staff was very friendly, but their English made it sometimes hard to communicate

Review 65:onsen-style bath was very nice, free access to computers in the lobby, free delicious odon soup to all guests between 21:30-2300, shuttle to train station.

Review 66:Nothing :-)

Review 67:This is a great location for foreign travelers. The front desk is bilingual and obliging. The onsen (hotbaths) are very nice and a low pressure place to try a new experience. The breakfast is far superior than many other hotels at this price (and I've been to many in Japan). The late night ramen is delicious. There are a lot of perks at this hotel that you don't get in most business hotels.

Review 68:Helpful staff. Easy walk to Kumamoto castle and covered shopping street. Especially good on rainy days. Very good onsen. Free ramen for supper. Free shuttle taxi to JR station.

Review 69:The booking was made for two adults and one kind at 4-year old with existing bedding at NO extra cost. Detailed information was given upon the booking was made. However, the hotel staff asked for additional Yen1,000 for the kid upon check in!! It is unreasonable and unacceptable!!!

Review 70:1.polite staff, clean room, great onsen. 2.very very close to kumamoto bus station because I plan to travel with bus someday and it's save my time so much. also the location is near the sunroad walking street too.

Review 71:The room is very small . And there's always a lot of customer in the lobby even morning and afternoon .

Review 72:the location is very good , near the tram station .

Review 73:Wifi on the lobby and public space is comparably weak.

Review 74:Free late night lamen is sweet. Hot spring is nice and fully equipped. Breakfast is great. Wifi in the room is good. Location is good, close to Kumamoto Temple and the shopping area.

Review 75:You have to take bus to there but the good thing is they provides free drop off service from hotel to JR station.

Review 76:The room is very cozy with tatami inside. The hotspring is great and the free ramen is also very delicious. Overall, I like it and will stay in its other branches for sure.

Review 77:Room quite small.

Review 78:The exceptional baths on the roof - an outdoor hot spring bath in a tiny garden, lovely breakfast, convenient location, excellent value for money.

Review 79:Good location, Located next to main bus station near shopping arcade, I can see a Kumamoto Castle from my room. Moreover, an onsen and room arrangement are a memorable one.

Review 80:An employee at the desk did not immediately found a request for reservation. She requires us to show our passports, even though we were traveling with ID Cards issued by the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Japan. When calculating the amount of the payment was made a big mistake. After our observation l payment was recalculated correctly.

Review 81:Convenient location, availability of parking, Walking distance attractions

Review 82:Close proximity to the tram from the rail station; short walk to the castle and associated grounds, and restaurants. Cosy but comfortable rooms. A really good onsen is available after a day of exploring. The free shuttle back to the train station was much appreciated. Staff at the reception and in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful.

Review 83:Great location to the bus/train station, shopping street, and the Castle. The Front lady is friendly to respond our question and requirement. Love the hot spring & SPA.

Review 84:Pillows a bit soft

Review 85:Another pleasant stay at the dormyinn. This hotel is exceptionally well located - opposite the bus station that takes you Takachiho, Yufuin/Beppu/Kurokawa

Review 86:Location (near to tram stop, Yen 1,000 taxi ride to station, near to castle and covered arcades - which have all the food and shopping options you may need). Staff - friendly, good English if you need it. Public baths on the top floor were excellent. Washing m/cs and driers available. Great breakfast.

Review 87:Nothing.

Review 88:The location was great and convenient for everything we wanted to see and do. Free noodles every night at 9:30 was a convenient option, but there are several 24hr places in Ginza as well. Breakfast buffet is ok, but convenient.

Review 89:Should not stop the visitors who have tattoo to use public bath.Japanese wants to prevent the mob members to gather in the hot springbut should not stop visitor who have tattoo to use public bath. Tattoois just some certain quantity people's hobby. It doesn't meanthe people is a part of mob when he/she has tattoo on their body.

Review 90:Location is very convenient to access the castle and shopping area. But a little bit far from jr. Station by walk. Public bath andbreakfast both were excellent. Also provide a free late noodle since9:30 to 11pm everyday.

Review 91:Pillows are rather flat, but this is quite the norm in all japanese hotels and ryokans. Toilet a little on the small side, but I have come across even smaller toilets in Japan before.

Review 92:Friendly staff, nice clean room

Review 93:The location is a bit far from JR station. but you can take bus or tram, so it's basically ok.

Review 94:The staffs are quite friendly and helpful, I can tottally relex while my staying in this hotel by myself, and the food was great.

Review 95:nothing to mention

Review 96:We already stayed at a number of Dormy Inn hotels in Japan, and the Dormy Inn in Kumamoto does also meet the expectations: Excellent hot-spring bath on the 13th floor, free Chinese noodles after 9:30 pm, spacey room, queen-size bed, everything clean and comfortable. We already call it the Dormy-Inn-treat. Located in the central part of Kumamoto, everything is in walking distance: the castle and the long and wide shopping 'Arcade'. For the Shinkansen station we took the romantic and inexpensive (150 Yen) street car.

Review 97:be not so bad

Review 98:It was great place to stay at central Kumamoto city. Open-air hot spring on 13th floor is worth to use (complimentary facility). "Soba" night snack time will start at 9:30 pm on 1st floor. morning buffet is also quiet good (need get ticket)

Review 99:Staff didn't understand any English so it was VERY hard to get anyhting out of the ordinary like a plate and glasses for the room. Or to ask about delivery of a parcel that was mailed to us from Hokkaido. Breakfast was VERY average compared to other Japanese hotel standards.

Review 100:The bed and the location

Review 101:Very good location, 5 mintures walk to the cloest tram station and 5 minutres from the train station to hotel by tram. 5 minutes walk to the shopping street, 10 minutes walk to the castle. Hotel facilities are good and staff are very helpful.

Review 102:Not close to Kumamoto Station.

Review 103:Great onsen particularly the open air public bath, nice complimentary ramen in the evening. Close to everything except Kumamoto Station.

Review 104:Given the extras, it is priced more than some nearby hotel/inn, but it is still worth the price!

Review 105:Hot spring bath is availble daily from 3pm to 10am. It is very secure for ladies as the access is via a code which changes daily. Enjoyed the ramen for supper which is good and most of all FREE! Location is good, next to bus terminal and 5 min walk from tram stop and 8 min walk to shopping arcardes.

Review 106:Receptionists could barely understand any English beyond the few phrases needed to do check in.

Review 107:Located next to the bus terminal and short Walking distance to the Kumamoto Castle and the shopping centres. Rooms are very clean and beds comfortable. Room is very small just like any other Japanese hotels.

Review 108:Double Bed is small even for an Asian and we are not big. Pillow is also too flat. Staff cannot converse much in English.

Review 109:Close to Kumamoto castle, hotel provides shuttle bus to Kumamoto train station. Easy access to restaurants and shopping area.

Review 110:Too cold when sleeping. Heater didn't work well in the night. Bad view out of the window.

Review 111:Good location from kotsu center, free wifi, wonderful onsen experience

Review 112:Parking was not free. Would have been nice if they had laid out the futons

Review 113:For a budget hotel, the facilities were really good especially the public bath. Parking was available on site. A nice touch was the free bowl of ramen that was available after 9.30.

Review 114:We love this hotel! Location is convenient, the room is very clean and spacious with a reasonable size standing bath. We went to many onsens in Kyushu before arriving at this hotel, and their top floor onsen is one of the best! It was very clean and provided with ample amenities. Even the outdoor onsen is fantastic for star gazing without feeling too chilly during winter time. The free noodles for supper tasted good too, and the washer is free of charge! Only have to pay for the dryer.

Review 115:From train station to hotel, need a hitch a taxi, a little far from the train statiom

Review 116:Great location, 10 mins walk to Kumamoto Castle, shopping belt (great food), free shuttle to train station, public spa on the 13th floor.

Review 117:Everything in the lobby area is small. A trolley with luggages can't go through the hotel lifts and even the door to the carpark.

Review 118:The hotel has it's own onsen at 13th floor. It's close to Kumamoto Castle, shopping area and dining area (within walking distant).

Review 119:The toilet in our room was poorly cleaned and had a urine smell. For this reason, we have marked this property down on cleanliness. The bathroom of our traveling companions did not have this issue.

Review 120:Location is good and convenient to shopping area. We also liked the fact that they had quad-room so we could fit our family of 4 in a single room. We also like the free-ramen supper that feature in Dormy Inns.

Review 121:Daytime, traffic noise can be heard. At night, all is quiet.

Review 122:Our party comprised 3 adults. We booked a room with 3 single beds. The room is clean and bright. The mattress is medium (scale: soft-medium soft-medium-medium hard-hard). The toilet & shower/bath are in one compartment and wash-hand basin is separated. Our room faces the Kumamoto castle, which is lighted at night. In-room hotel internet was stable and strong. There is an onsen (hot spring bath) in the hotel, with password given to ladies to access the ladies section. Automated parking with the help of attendants is available in the hotel. English was spoken at the reception. Staff are friendly. Free noodle soup is served every night. The soup contains the noodle (ramen, soba or udon), spring onion, some topping. Location: Outside the hotel, many things are happening in the neighbourhood. It is walking distance to Kumamoto castle, and also to a food street. Right in front is the Central with numerous eateries, shopping, supermarket, etc.

Review 123:Noisy room with sound of running water in pipes. Couldn't quite sleep well.

Review 124:Having an onsen on the roof top is great. Size of the room is pretty good.

Review 125:Could've been cheaper..

Review 126:Free bowl of ramen between 9.30-11pm every night, free use of onsen which included sauna and outdoor bath, very close to shopping and wide range of restaurants, a few tram stops away from Kumamoto Station but Dormy Inn provided free taxi to the station every morning as long as you book it the night before.

Review 127:Not change of towel in the room, you have to ask for new towel at reception if you left it in onsen.

Review 128:Just opposite of bus center, near Kumamoto castle and shopping center. Room was small but equipped. Onsen was good. Room rate was reasonable.

Review 129:A lot of chinese/singapore noisy guests.

Review 130:It's close to Kumamoto Castle. The personal is very friendly. They offer a free ramen in the late evening! The onsen area is very nice on top of the building!
