Reviews for Namba Oriental Hotel
Review 1:The front desk staff should ask first the current occupant of the room if they are extending their stay or not before they again sell the room to another guest.
Review 2:cleanliness, comfort, security, location.
Review 3:Only complain is probably the late check-in time at 3pm
Review 4:Great location, in the centre of namba district, lively area. Lots of food choices around the hotel. Shinsaibashi and Dontonbori is a few minutes walk away
Review 5:Not much view from the window but no big issue
Review 6:Really convenient location. Senbachuo shopping district is right at the doorstep :) Many 24hr convenient stalls are located within the vicinity of the hotel hence you just have to go down to shop for supper if you're hungry at night. Dotonbori is just 5mins walk down senbachuo. Mrt station is really near but you have to find your way. Third time here and still really satisfied with the comfy stay!
Review 7:The ref (specifically, the freezer) was not working during our stay.
Review 8:It was a breeze checking in & out. Friendly staff. Great location. We would stay here again.
Review 9:Nothing
Review 10:Very good location, 3 min from Namba station and Dotonbori. Comfortable bed. No luxurious but clean and not big room but enough for 2 people. Very good value for money
Review 11:Location is the big selling point for this property. It's on a direct subway line from the Shinkansen station and in the Dotonburi area, which has lots of entertainment and restaurant options. Despite this, our room was very quiet. Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard. The rooms are a little run down, but very clean. The hotel was beginning a renovation project while we were there, starting with the top floors.
Review 12:Air-conditioning is centrally set to 24degC but its not cool enough. We had to open the windows to let cool air in but it can get noisy coz our room is facing the streets. We had to use the quilt cover, with the quilt removed as a blanket.
Review 13:Location is near to namba station and many restuarants. There is a casual Italian restaurant within the hotel premises on the 1st level. Food is really good, price reasonable, service is attentive. Worth a visit.
Review 14:Out of all the places we stayed in during out holiday in Japan this place has the least character. It was fine, but wasn't special and not quite what I was expecting given how highly it's rated online. We used the washing machine and dryer which also made out clothing smell awful - the staff were relatively helpful in addressing this, but it was frustrating and a waste of time.
Review 15:Fantastic location
Review 16:Thenroom was a bit outdated though still comfortable. The hallways and lift smell of cigarettes.
Review 17:The location was super convenient - close to the trains and with lots of eateries around. Shinsaibaishi is just a stone throw away.
Review 18:Location was close to Namba Station and the hotel is in centre of an amazing shopping / restaurant area, rooms were comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed the nightlife around the hotel
Review 19:We checked in late at around 10pm on a Sat, but the hotel didn't give in to our request for a late check-out on a Tue (usual for them is 10am, and we only asked to stay until 11am).
Review 20:Location
Review 21:The hotel rate is quite pricey although location and service compensates for that. Since the building also includes a pachinko area at the basement, smell of smoke is very prominent upon entry to the ground floor and lobby area. Facilities may also be improved since hotel is quite old already.
Review 22:The hotel is at it's best location which is very accessible to shopping area, train station, restaurants and food market. The hotel is also very accessible to the airport and also has a foreign exchange in the area. Staff are very accommodating. Although extension of stay requires extra payment, the hotel accepts storing of luggages until guests are ready to leave for their flight schedule.
Review 23:I think the check in and check out times aren't good. You can only check in from 3pm and you need to leave before 10am - so if you stay one night it feels like you've had little time in the hotel.
Review 24:Very convenient location amongst the shopping arcades next to Namba station High quality hotel, well appointed
Review 25:We had read the reviews about cigarette smoke and smell and so were a bit apprehensive about coming in the end. It's true that there is a bit of smell in the lift and lobby but they seem to be working hard to reduce it and they definitely gave us a non-smoking room as requested. The air purifier in the room seemed to work well too. The hotel just felt a bit old and tired for the price, but to be fair, hotels in Osaka that fit a family of 4 seem to be expensive and the location of this one was really great if you want to be in the middle of everything.
Review 26:The location was great for shopping and eating out, loved the kitchen shopping district just nearby. Also very convenient to get to the airport. Room was clean and had everything we needed and was made up for 4 when we arrived.
Review 27:Cleanliness of rooms could be improved. Behind the couch and underneath the bed dust accumulations is very thick.
Review 28:Excellent location and security rounds every few hours ensuring guest safety. Staff are helpfull in giving directions to your destination.
Review 29:Bad smoking in lifts. Need the hotel to revised a map in details especially for travel from Nankai Station (from the airport)
Review 30:Great location! Nice courtyard Fast lifts to guestroom A Lawson Convenient store is next to the hotel
Review 31:Nothing really. All was great
Review 32:Spacious for Japanese standards. Absolutely fantastic location, helpful staff, comfortable beds, did not smell of smoke as some other reviewers said (apart from lift but that didn't disturb us) bathroom was nice
Review 33:Lift was little stinky - smell of tabacco.
Review 34:Very close from Namba station. Although the hotel is located in the market, in front of big Pachinko place, it was very quiet inside the building as I have read from other people's review. Staffs were very kind. Many drugstores and restaurants are nearby. Kuromon Market is less than 5 minutes walk.
Review 35:Wifi in the room does not work properly. Not value for money. Its more a 2 - 3 star hotel. Room value no more than $60/night. No gym, poor internet, poor room design. Plus credit card is charged at the check-in??
Review 36:Well communicated with public transport
Review 37:They said room came with free wifi, it was practically non existent. No porter service. No immediate taxi or car access to the hotel. Extremely small room.
Review 38:Only the location.
Review 39:1.We are disappointed with wifi connection. We can't connect. We were fortunate to have rented japan wifi for connection. 2. Front desk Staff Mr. Yamashita. He was rude.
Review 40:Our 5th time in Namba Oriental. We rented 4 rooms for me and my family. We are all happy with the location and sleeping comfort.
Review 41:We stayed in two rooms. Both the rooms were very old, and the only places fortunately clean were the inside of the beds, and the bathroom. Everything else was old and dirty, and we did not touch anything. My kids discovered a piece of apple close to the curtains (they took a picture, see review). We mentioned that at the front desk, and the day after the piece was still there.
Review 42:The cigarette smell in the lift to the reception and in the lobby. It can be tricky to find the hotel in the first place because it's in a commercial area, between restaurants and pachinkos, where you don't expect to find a hotel.
Review 43:The hotel is in the middle of everything, in a very busy area, full of people, shops and restaurants. The connections to the Kansai airport and shin-osaka stations are very good. Namba stop might be the biggest metro station in Osaka. If you have carry-on bags I recommend you take exit 1, it has a lift. All other suggested exits for this hotel only have stairs. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was big compared to all other hotels we've seen in Japan. Even if it's a very loud area, there was no noise in the room.
Review 44:I am forced to keep on passive smoking despite I have requested a non-smoking room as non-smoking and smoking rooms are mixed in the same floor. The air of the hotel lift is the worse as it is filled with second-hand smoke.
Review 45:Good location
Review 46:Strangest location I have ever been in a hotel, middle of a leisure and game district. To be honest I did not like at all the neighborhood. Rooms are pretty old furnished.
Review 47:Sfaff was very nice and helpful.
Review 48:The room was bigger than the standard rooms in Japan. Staff were friendly and rooms were clean. The hotel is located right in the heart of Namba and is very close to the subway station.
Review 49:The enterence is through a passage (pedestrian passage) so it might be a bit tricky to find the place.
Review 50:It is located in the middle of downtown area, so it is in the bright and crowded area of the city. Personnel is very helpful and speaks a good level of English. Bed and other utilities are very comfortable.
Review 51:All is fine.
Review 52:It's just 5 minutes walk to Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi Shopping Area. It's located inside the Sennichimae Shopping Area, which is quite crowded. There are restaurants that is still open until midnight (or even 24 hrs). Convenience store is just beside the hotel. One minute walk to Namba Walk, and five minutes walk to Namba Sta. or Nippombashi Sta. Direct train rides to Kansai Airport, Nara and Sannomiya (Kobe).
Review 53:It is hard to find in the little alley ways of namba. Just look up for the pink 9 story building. Signage is not good.
Review 54:Very central to namba - the main tourist area - and just a 100 metres from namba station so is very easy from the airport. One of us was sick and they scheduled us into the doctor, provided directions, extended the check out time ( free) and were generally just really helpful. I recommend this place.
Review 55:They insisted me to check in at 3pm when i arrived at 11am. I asked for earlier like 1 or 2pm, they requested me to pay extra which is the 1st time for me. The room is noisy at night because alot of restaurants downstairs. The wifi is very bad, always disconnected.
Review 56:Location is good, close to station and alot of restaurants downstairs.
Review 57:The hotel attributed us a smoking room.
Review 58:The location is great, at the center of Namba, at walking distance from the train station. The place was clean as it usually is in Japan.
Review 59:Hallway of non-smoking room smelled strongly of smoke. Annoying series of elevators to reach the rooms.
Review 60:Pleasant view of the central courtyard from the elevator.
Review 61:There are smoking smell in non-smoking room and the reodorant in every elevator. Although the hotel provide the special machine to clean the air, but the result is not so good.
Review 62:The location is just near the Namba station. For us, this is a great location for taking the airplane in the morning.
Review 63:A bit challenging to find on our first day, but it was still manageable after asking around. Too early check out at 10:00h, 1-2 more hour(s) would be ideal, took up the option to extend at 500yen ppph (still reasonable). No free bottled water, but I came to realize that most hotels in Japan are like this too.
Review 64:Direct train from KIX Airport and short walking distance to hotel. Friendly staff with good command of English. Free & good WIFI. Great location, there's a souvenir shop just round the corner and plenty of restaurants nearby. Just minutes walk to Dotonbori streets where you can find the food street and even do some shopping! Safe area and plenty of food shop around that open till late.
Review 65:Cleanliness is excellent. Also the location is superb. It's so close to the famous Shinsaibashi area and there are many interesting places to walk around there.
Review 66:Lobby is reeked with stale cigarette smell. Luckily the room is not!
Review 67:Good location. Close to many eateries. Some eateries are open 24h. Room is big by Japanese standard.
Review 68:Staff wasn't overly friendly. We asked one of the men working at the frontdesk to help us out with a restaurant booking. He pointed at my friend's phone and asked: "can you call yourself?". We tried to explain that our Japanese was i sufficient to do that, but he still refused and told us to use the phone in our room, which we were charged for afterwards... very poor service of this particular employee!
Review 69:Nice rooms, good location, in general friendly staff.
Review 70:We had to leave! ((:
Review 71:The location, shops and food everywhere once you step outside the hotel. The hotel lets you use the breakfast vouchers for lunch if you miss breakfast! We had lunch (early) and it was fabulous,Japanese and great buffet.Very clean, good size room.Garden to sit in.For the cost it was amazing.Staff speak english and are very helpful.Taxis if needed at the end of the arcade.Subway and few steps away.Just when arriving for the first time the taxi cannot get inside the arcade.A member of staff came to our help as our driver called the hotel and guided the taxi to nearby. Then helped with our luggage.
Review 72:The walls between the hotel rooms are quit thin. One night we heard our next door neighbor sweared loudly for at least half an hour at 1 am. It was really annoying.
Review 73:Great location for travelers who wants to shop. The room is very clean and fairly comfortable.
Review 74:Increase breakfast selection;more western food. The food gave most of our group upset stomach.
Review 75:Walking distance to namba station and nearby shopping /restaurants.
Review 76:Location is walking distance from the train station. It is also along a pedestrian street surrounded by restaurants and shops and right beside a convenience store. The toilet and bath looks newly renovated.
Review 77:The hotel didn't provide complimentary bottled water for hotel guest. The cost of the bottled in the room's ref is triple the cost from a vending machine.
Review 78:Universal Studios, Osaka Castle, and Namba Walk
Review 79:Luggage left at reception (early arrival)... no help to bring it up in the room (in other hotels in Japan was always already in the room upon arrival).
Review 80:the location, right close to Namba station and a nice commercial area. Room was small but cosy
Review 81:To pay the hotel fee in advanced before we even saw the room. Breakfast is less a lot to be desired for western guests
Review 82:Easy access to station and restaurants
Review 83:The hotel is situated in the middle of a popular pachinko plaza. Not ideal if you were traveling with children.
Review 84:Staff were very helpful with directions and travel information. Large clean rooms (King bed) and generous bathroom (for Japan). Easy access to subway and overland trains. Right in the heart of the Dontonbori area, lots of dining and shopping options.
Review 85:A bit expensive, but considering the location, it was probably justified.
Review 86:The hotel is located right in the middle of the Dotonbori shopping/nightlife area and is a great spot to enjoy the bright lights and excitement of Osaka. It's an easy walk from the subway and the hotel has pictorial directions of how to find it in this maze like shopping g district. It was not noisy despite its busy location. Great coffee shop downstairs for breakfast. The staff were professional and helpful, although not as friendly as other places we stayed in Japan. They held our bags prior to check in and after check out which was great. Four of us in the one room was a bit squeezy with baggage, but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very good. I'd stay here again.
Review 87:Great Location! Just remember your exit no. then everything gonna be very easy! Nice staffs! Easy to get food nearby. Good value for money in Osaka!
Review 88:Great location everything within walking distance from train/subway stations to Pub/restaurant of your choice. Very friendly staffs & efficient service.
Review 89:Breakfast was pricey so we just didn't eat it there.
Review 90:They had an amazing massage chair in our room and after a long day of walking it was much appreciated. Not sure if this is common in rooms - but it was great for us. Also, it is so close the subway station. You didn't even have to go outside.
Review 91:Nothing!
Review 92:I like the location.its very near the restos. The security of the hotel..the courteous staff..i love everything..and we will definitely recommend it to friends..also we will surely go book again in our next Japan vacation .
Review 93:It is very near the Nankai Namba station, around 3-5 mins walk. It is around good restos and just few steps from McDo. Around 10-15 mins walk to Dotonbori, Amerikamura and Shinshaibashi. Room is quite big and 3 people can fit into the 2-bedroom. Comfort room is spacious and complete of toiletries.
Review 94:Unreliable WiFi, tiny room (but typical in Japan) and walked around the block a couple of times before finding the entrance
Review 95:In a central location (once found)
Review 96:Wifi was very slow and you couldn't always get connected!
Review 97:The hotel was in a good location with the train station only a few minutes away. Excellent customer service. Received one of the best massages I have ever had
Review 98:Accessible, clean, and good amenities. Great location with lots within walking distance and an easy walk from Namba Station. Dotonbouri street is just 5 minutes away. Room and hotel was clean, loved the anti-fog mirror in the bathroom.
Review 99:The wifi was slow and kept dropping out. Read up on Namba before you stay there. My wife and I enjoyed it a lot but I could imagine it wouldn't be to everyone's taste.
Review 100:A comfortable hotel located in a covered mall in the heart of Osaka's busy Namba district. The location of this hotel couldn't be better with food, shopping and two railway stations only a very short walk away. Sights like Osaka castle are within a 30min train ride.
Review 101:-Wifi keeps getting disconnected. -Unable to change room air conditioning temperature - when we lowered the temperature control setting, the room temperature actually went higher (warmer) - called the staff for help with air conditioning and was told to open the window. After which, we had trouble closing the window and staff told us to wait 10min for help instead of coming up immediately. This all happened past midnight and we certainly did not have a restful sleep. - no provision of water
Review 102:- Location is undoubtedly good - room spacious
Review 103:Even if the rooms seemed cozy and clean, the lobby looked a bit dated.
Review 104:We liked that the hotel was very near the Namba Station and Train station to the airport. It was a few mins walk to the kuromon ichiban food market as well as other food and shopping locations. The hotel had a small garden area in the middle which was something nice.
Review 105:The staff is not that warm than my expectation, but firmly better than most countries in the world. I can't complain more.
Review 106:Uncomparablly fabulous location with lots lots of shops, restrants, departments and train stations around. Even with a very crowded shopping street along side, the room is still very quiet. Room is clean and spacious.
Easy to reach from Kansai Air port. Only 5 min walk from Namba JR station. Nice hotel, clean and the staff is also nice. I will only stay in this hotel in Osaka for sure.
Review 108:The standard check-out time is a bit too early for us, since our flight is after midnight. Anyway, I have no complain because hotel can allow us delayed check-out with hourly surcharge. What we did is just checked-out at standard time (10:00) and leave our luggage at the reception until a proper time to go to airport (20:00).
Review 109:The location is best for our scenario. We are couple who like to travel around Osaka + Kyoto for few days by public train. Easy to find good food and shopping around hotel. The facilities, cleanliness, and friendly staffs are no doubt.
Review 110:The too early check out time (10am) No free bottled water Noisy neighbors arguing at 12h30am (no fault to hotel)
Review 111:The location next to Nankai train station was extremely convenient. Going to Kansai airport was a breeze. I was particularly impressed by the breakfast - the best one I had in Japan ! The homemade fruit juice was amazing! The WiFi connection using the rooter box was no problem at all. I would stay again at this hotel without hesitation.
Review 112:Check out time is 10am making it very rushing. The entrance to the hotel not prominent and no clear signage. Location is noisy near to a busy shop area.
Review 113:Location is near shops and the market.
Review 114:No WIFI in the rooms (cable only). Room was a bit squeezy with 4 beds in it.
Review 115:Close to everything! Shops, restaurants, street food, railways & subway right at your doorstep. The streets outside the hotel are pedestrian streets and always busy but the rooms are quiet. Nice bathroom and friendly staff speak basic engrish.
Review 116:Overall we really liked this hotel. Our only complaints were that the rooms were very over-heated. We turned the heating in the room off, but it was still stiflingly hot. When we mentioned this to reception we were told to open the window, which we did, but it meant it was a bit noisy and breezy. Seemed a bit crazy to have the window wide open in mid-winter, but it did the trick. Also, the in-room WiFi didn't work for us, but as it was available in the lobby this wasn't a major problem.
Review 117:Overall we really liked this hotel. The location was excellent - a short walk to the restaurants and shops of Dotombori and Shinsaibashi etc. Our room was clean, comfortable (except for the overheating) and relatively spacious. The security, facilities and amenities were good and the buffet breakfast was excellent.
Review 118:The electricity capacity is very limited. The hotel provides 3 hairdryer in the room, but when we turned it on together, the electricity was down. And we were disappointed because the staff forbid us to use the hairdryer together at a time while they were the one who provided it.
Review 119:Location is the best, just 5 minutes walk from Dotonbori area, the center of every Osaka culinary. The room is quite small for 4 persons, but worth the price.
Review 120:Staff were very accommodating. There was apparently free Wifi in the room if you ask for the router device. For the price, it should have come with breakfast. Location-wise - excellent.
Review 121:They gave us smoking rooms when we got a confirmed reservation for non-smoking rooms. They then blamed Booking.Com for it, and it took so long before they solved the problem.
Review 122:Nothing.
Review 123:Namba Oriental is in the middle of it all. Easy to get to subways, stores and lots of good restaurants nearby. The bed was really comfy and there was plenty of room for our family of 3.
Review 124:beds and pillows are a little hard. no internet in rooms, only in lobby.
Review 125:location is the best. near shopping and restaurants. will definitely stay here again.
Review 126:Pillow was too high for me. Room was too warm, couldn't change the temperature in the room.
Review 127:Extremely good location, lots of restaurants and shopping available near by, train stations very close. Although a non-smoking room was not available, they cleaned the room up really well, couldn't smell traces of smoke in the room.
Review 128:TV channels have no free English movies and news at all.
Review 129:The hotel supplies all the necessary travelling needs including complete toiletries and pyjamas.
Review 130:Located in the hub of Osaka's night life, there was plenty to do and see, and a huge choice of foods to sample, all within easy walking distance. I was worried that it would be noisy in the room, but it was very quiet - double glazing blocked out all loud sounds.
Review 131:Check-in time is 15.00, I think it's too late. And check-out time is 10.00,that's very early!! The hotel provide you only green tea but no coffee in the room.
Review 132:This hotel is located near namba station. You can easily access to the hotel from Kansai airport by Nankai express and find B21(for subway namba walk)or follow north exit. Hotel staff can speak english very well and they also have a guide map of namba area for guest. You can borrow wifi-router at front desk for keep in touch with your family. The room is big comparing with other business hotel and the bathroom is great. The hotel location is excellent! All food, dessert, shops, fresh market, kitchenware shops and department store just around the corner. Enjoy!!
Review 133:no wifi at room , room is abit small but still can accept follow japan standard , still consider nice hotel at namba
Review 134:room is clean , nice location , price is ok for me
Review 135:Too many people smoking at entrance to hotel and around the retail area of hotel.
Review 136:Location is right smack in the middle of Namba area where it is easy to get to all major areas.
The Fine Print
The Hotel's check-out time will change from 10:00 (current time) to 11:00 from the 1st of April, 2016.
