Reviews for Hotel Porta Felice

Review 1:Four of us dined in the restaurant and agreed it was the WORST meal we have had in Sicily (we have lived here 2 years and dine out often). The hotel room was very dark, the staff varied from friendly to uncooperative. The final bill had to be corrected, but not until an unpleasant argument ensued over the aggressive/excess charges.

Review 2:The small spa is lovely - a wonderful treat for a traveler or visitor to Palermo. We had a suite, and it was spacious and quiet (this was in December).

Review 3:The "Wellness" facilities (sauna, etc) were always occupied by other guests.

Review 4:Staff was nice. We had dinner there once and it was a good experience.

Review 5:The staff was always happy to answer my many many questions about getting around Palermo. The terrace breakfast was a daily changing festival of Sicilian dessert tortes along with meats, eggs, fruits. Had a great afternoon massage to relax and later drinks up on the terrace with Aurelio and Paolo to guide us through the dinner menu and Sicilian wines. A plus in our (spacious) room: pinkish ? backlighting behind wood on two opposite walls to ease you into dreamtime or wake up slowly.

Review 6:No pool, or terrace to sit out on

Review 7:Excellent location close to harbour and old town. Breakfast and evening meals were both excellent. We got an upgrade to a suite which was very nice.

Review 8:Breakfast Full of sweet pastries. If you diabetc overweight or similar problems. Hotel restaurant just regular for italian standards I aked to charge in room and waiter bring bill without price ,just description. Overpriced c.

Review 9:Big confiortable quiet rooms. Good wifi and small but enough gym. Helpful staff Excellent location close to attractions and restaurants.

Review 10:A bar / lounge separate from the restaurant would be nice but that was not a major problem for us.

Review 11:Very nice hotel in Palermo. Located on the edge of the Historical Centre in the Port. Staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our meal in the Restaurant very much and the staff were a great assistance in chosing and explaining the different choices, my wife being vegetarian this was very helpful. The hotel is located in a narrow street so do not expect amazing views but this was not a problem at all because our room was very comfortable and clean.

Review 12:You can only connect one device to the free wifi service.

Review 13:I loved how clean and modern the whole hotel was. The room was big and comfy too! The breakfast was delicious and it was served in a lovely room on the top floor, I really liked the freshly squeezed "red orange" juice and the espresso machine.

Review 14:The only downside is the breakfast. We got up a bit late one day and felt that there was not much food left. There was also no hot food.

Review 15:The hotel is conveniently located for city sightseeing. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and we had a surprise free room upgrade!

Review 16:Nothing..

Review 17:The room was very comfortable, location is very good, 10 min walk away from the heart of the city, also close to the port You will love the breakfast..

Review 18:A hotel's primary function is to provide the guest with a sound night's sleep, and, in that, PF failed. The air conditioner hummed disturbingly loudly in one room, costing me half a night's sleep. The other room to which I was changed had seen better days; the learher counter top was ratty, worn; and the window's view was obstructed by an alley wall. The manager genuinely loves her job; she exudes that. The staff, however, are stiff, frosty, and don't really seem to know or love what they do. I wouldn't expect a dead-end on a routine transportation question; Tripadviisor was much more helpful. The point is, at a hotel like Porta Felice, you'd expect more knowledgeable staff. Further, I was uneasy with one staffer because on my last visit, she gave me a room with two twin beds conjoined by a pad (to make a queen), and when I notified her of the discomfort, she grudgingly changed the room. With the other front-desk woman, I had arranged a trip to Mondello beach the day of my check-out and was charged accordingly. When I asked her if it would be possible to shower in the spa's shower upon my return, she initially denied the request, saying you will have already checked out. Personally, I think that's unaccommodating, if not unreasonable. I doubt I will return.

Review 19:The manager was a nice woman and the staff, at least, goes through the motions.

Review 20:This hotel was slightly let down by the Air Conditioning system which was controlled by the front desk. Overall the room was too hot, especially at night, when it didn`t give you in-room control of the temperature.

Review 21:A superb hotel, very efficient and ideally situated to explore Palermo. Staff were exceptional in all respects. Roof - top restaurant was excellent for beakfast and for an evening drink/meal.

Review 22:Never a 4 star hotel, dark room which smelt badly. Not exactly out the way but not the nicest part of Palermo. The breakfast is basically cakes or rubberised eggs. Restaurant starters good, mains terrible.

Review 23:The trattorias nearby are amazing.

Review 24:Spacious room in boutique hotel in a quiet street. Lovely stylish decor. Extra large bathroom with full size deep bath. Breakfast on 4th floor terrace. Walking distance to station, sights, bars and restaurants.

Review 25:Ubicación, un poco alejada del centro, pero con transporte público a 100 mts.

Review 26:Habitaciones comodas y bin equipadas. Muy buen desayuno y conexión wi-fi

Review 27:Wifi/Internet appalling unless in lobby or top floor breakfast or restaurant. After 3-4 days of complaining, hotel provided us with our own booster in our room. Worked well then.

Review 28:Very reasonable price-wise and near some excellent eating at Al Covo de'I Beati Paoli Ristorante Pizzeria at Piazza Marina 50, our best buffalo pizza in Italy. A great little gelati/bar for our daily fix of Aperol spritz and gelati was nearby at Non Solo Gelato on opposite side of square.

Review 29:We were two friends and therefore asked for two beds. We booked two beds on the site, we added a special note to please make sure that it was two beds, and we called and said two beds please. Even after all of these measures they gave us a room with only one bed and told us there were no more rooms with 2 beds and nothing they could do about it. They offered an additional room at a small discounted rate which I don't think was reasonable - they should have given us the other room for free for the night until they could have remedied it - since it was their mistake. Once we did finally move into another room, the free hotel wifi didn't reach and we had to go to the hallway or somewhere else in the hotel to use it. Other than that, the hotel was nice, the staff mostly pleasant (other than how they dealt with bed situation) and it was centrally located.

Review 30:The hotel was close to the water and felt pretty centrally located to many of the sights of the city.

Review 31:Poor wifi reception. Stuffy room.

Review 32:Proximity to city centre and sites. Local choice of restaurants. Breakfast and breakfast room. Helpful staff. Quiet room.

Review 33:We decided to stay a few more nights in palermo and out of politeness suggested we could book directly through the front desk. The woman tried to convince us that the price in booking.com was somehow false, with a truly false smile on her face. So i just clicked my iPhone and saved myself 25 a night. She could have given it to us for the price and saved the hotel a few euros. Instead she put us in a smaller room. I hate being lied to. Beyond that a certain foul smell came out of the sink (in both rooms). The smell of... Let's just say... Septic tank?

Review 34:Clean tasteful hotel. Good location.

Review 35:The room was clean, but a bit dark even with all the lights on. The internet is a joke: extremely weak signal in my room, and we were only given 1 code per person, i.e. if you have a laptop and two phones you should pay extra to connect all devices. Staff was not particularly welcoming and helpful on arrival. The reception should have more than just 1 employee.

Review 36:Room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance of many sites, and the bus stop is just few meters away.

Review 37:The bed was a bit too hard for me though I can imagine that this is good for others. The wireless code was not working on the last day.

Review 38:The location and the personnel are both very great. The hotel is a great quality for the price.

Review 39:Didn't try but they have a Pillow Menu! The spa was lovely and affordable - only downside was the hot tub was not hot at all when we were there. Massage was lovely. Rooms were clean and comfortable, reminded us of the Kimpton hotels in the states. Front desk was very helpful and nice.

Review 40:Parking extra cost, but glad to do it considering Palermo's reputation Rooms need a little more light Bath - shower needs updating Not much bad to say!!!

Review 41:Staff - professional, friendly and very helpful Lovely view from breakfast Good breaky with wide range, not great coffee at breaky (nescafe machine) Huge comfy bed Pillow menu Spa (costs extra - but cheap)

Review 42:This is a great hotel in a great position with welcoming and helpful staff, lovely chic but comfortable rooms, a great restaurant for breakfast or dinner with a wonderful view over Palermo rooftops. We slept so well [beds very conmfortable, air-con just right] and roamed the historic alleys and lovely parks nearby in the daytime then again in the evening. Couldn't be bettered.

Review 43:Wonderful breakfast room: great selection and very nice view. Always a choice to eat outside. Staff couldn't have been more accomodating. They called a taxi for us when we got stuck at the hydrofoil dock when our boat to Lipari was cancelled. Good inexpensive restaurants in the area.

Review 44:My husband and I stayed in Porte Felice for two nights. The room was fabulous, very modern , spacious with an enormous, comfortable bed. The staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was very good also. The location was very convenient to all places of interest and it was just a short walk to the port. It was also walking distance to Central station.

Review 45:Staff was not particularly welcoming and helpful on arrival but maybe we have been unlucky!

Review 46:Very comfortable hotel, spacious rooms nicely designed and good location. Great breakfast!

Review 47:The air-conditioning is operated from the desk. Wouldn't normally be a problem but I was laid low for a couple of days in bed and needed the air conditioning. However, it is very cold and not changeable in the room.

Review 48:This hotel is quite lovely. The rooms are spacious, the staff are delightful, the breakfast really good and is taken in the rooftop restaurant with a wonderful view over the city. The position is excellent, within walking distance to the port and all of the tourist attractions including the hop on, hop off bus.

Review 49:We ordered 2 beds, but stuff did not provide us with an appropriate room. Awful view from room and from restaurant area. Bad smell from the street - impossible to open the windows. The air conditioner is automatically turned on when you leave the room and it is very cold inside when you back

Review 50:Big room, good breakfast

Review 51:The continual hum in our room which was not from the air conditioner. They offered us a change of room but that was too much inconvenience and the room change offered was not as good.

Review 52:The restaurant was very good and the staff there friendly

Review 53:comfort right at the edge of the old city and with great restaurant next door

Review 54:Location, location, location. We didn't like the lobby or bar.

Review 55:Large room. Helpful staff. Overall cleanliness.

Review 56:Room a bit dark.

Review 57:Position excellent.

Review 58:To few bedblankets and cushion

Review 59:Excellent and serviceminded staff.

Review 60:Wifi erratic and staff didn't seem to believe us!

Review 61:nothing, maybe the street outside a bit smelly?

Review 62:Very helpful staff, very patient and answer question with high level English

Review 63:Nothing to dislike

Review 64:Location, staff and facilities. The decor and general feel is fantastic.

Review 65:We had a lovely meal in the rooftop restaurant.

Review 66:Lovely hotel in the old city , near great museums and cafes

Review 67:Lousy service at breakfast in the restaurant room.

Review 68:Helpful personel at the receptin desk.

Review 69:Breakfast in 4th floor room overlooking the city, including proper Sicilian espresso. Friendly and flexible staff

Review 70:Bedrooms are noisy at front and below dining room

Review 71:The location is excellent. The restaurant upstairs is first class, an unexpected bonus in the torrential rain.

Review 72:small hotel with great breakfast on roof terrace

Review 73:breakfast good but basic

Review 74:location

Review 75:Close to the nightlife and the water. Clean, good breakfast.

Review 76:Ideal if you want to stay in the Kalsa district, check in was smooth, staff very helpful, and the rooms were excellent!

Review 77:Quality of bar facilities

Review 78:Friendliness

Review 79:The staff who provided such excellent client service.

Review 80:Dinner / breakfast on the roof top was very enjoyable, spacious rooms. Great place to stay for a few days.

Review 81:Double standard room was very good for the price. Staff was helpful and immediate with our requests. If there was rating for Very. Good, I would have selected all.

Review 82:The room was fairly clean, but a bit dark. Even with all the lights on and the shutters open it was still not very well lit. As many other people, we had problems with the internet, which was a bit of a nuisance. The breakfast could be improved. There were some decent cakes, but the brioches were dry and the fruit uninspiring. The area is rather decrepit, but not worse than many other in Palermo.

Review 83:We stayed four comfortable nights at Porta Felice. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a suit and got a very spacious room. The staff was friendly and helpful and the wellness center superb. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance of many sites.

Review 84:Just a beautiful place to stay! I wish I could have spent more time there. The staff was wonderful and spoke excellent English which was a plus since very few people were English speakers around Palermo. The price was £60 over our budget during the off season so I thought it was a bit high. Plus there were no real views. But it was a nice retreat from the sidewalks of old towne. They were also kind enough to pack a bag breakfast for us since we left at 4:00 in the morning. Super professional.

Review 85:Nothing. I liked it all!

Review 86:Great staff so helpful... Noemi helped me when I couldn't get my e-mail to work. Above and beyond what one would expect! what a great crew!! Breakfast - terrific! bar on the top floor --Excellent! Rooms beautiful and comfortable beds,,,

Review 87:Hotel is in the medieval section of the city - no pedestrian sidewalk in front of the hotel. One must dodge motorbikes and racing cars!

Review 88:First class hotel all across the board. Excellent continental breakfast. Wonderful restaurant!

Review 89:Wifi Connection didn't reach my corner room :(

Review 90:Everything but the Wifi connection ;) Location, Room, Staff... everything is perfect! 2nd time I go there and I will definitely go again if I have the chance to be in Palermo!

Review 91:If you want real italian coffee from a real coffeemachine you can be served it for breakfast, but, we didn´t know that you have to order it from the personal, so that we learned from the italian guests.

Review 92:Very nice staff and spacious rooms. Love this place and Palermo!

Review 93:Two things: (1) I was initially given a room with two twins compressed into a larger bed, but the crevice was noticeable; and the room only had a standing shower, no tub. To their credit, they changed the room, to one with a tub and a legit large-sized bed. Why did they not do that from the start, especially as the hotel was well below full occupancy? (2) Room service: I had asked the Bar how much it would cost for the wine (5 euros); he did not say that it was 6 euros to deliver it two flights down. My surprise and consternation came at checkout: it had nothing to do with the money, just not being told. (3) Do not allow the front desk simply to go on hunches of what transportation might be running. Relying on one of those hunches cost me a day; by the time the problem was discovered, I could not pursue other opportunities.

Review 94:The staff are fine, lovely, helpful people. The hotel is nicely decorated, and compared to Italy as a whole, the rooms are good value for the money.

Review 95:Wi-Fi was unreliable in the room. Ar breakfast we missed a fresh fruit salad. The available fruit salad was tinned fruit. Fresh fruit was present like whole kiwis, apples and grapes

Review 96:Very helpful and friendly staff, good knowledge of english. Nice, clean and spacious rooms

Review 97:The room climate was not well controlled and the room lighting was quitedim. Although the hotel advertizes no parking, we had no trouble findinga safe spot across from the hotel.

Review 98:From the comfort of this modern facility, you can experience theambiance of old Palermo. It is an oasis from which you can see and walkthru the old city. There is an outstanding restaurant next door andseveral others within a few block walk. We were most impressed and tookadvantage of the health club and massage facility. The breakfast wasalso varied and sufficient..

Review 99:Rooms terribly dark, nothing for klaustofoby people. Balcony on one step, staff in restaunt just start preparing breakfast 7.00 o clock, but instruction was breakfast from 7.00 to 11.00 o clock, two stars hotel in Trapani has better breakfast, it was really poor. Sorry but four star hotel???

Review 100:Very nice massage, and good personal on the recepcion

Review 101:Sicily generally, unfriendly population, litter everywhere, diabolical driving standards, and utter lack of roadsigns.

Review 102:The hotel was very good, up to European standards, and very convenient for the best al fresco restaurants . Staff were helpful and multilingual.

Review 103:The floors should have been cleaned/vacuumed more. Also the balcony floor (unbelivieably dirty). We missed a pool.

Review 104:This hotel was the only thing we liked about palermo. Spacious rooms, nice design, huge bed, good AC, good help from reception, quick check-in. Two closets to hang our clothes. New soaps every day. I cannot imagine horrible palermo has a better hotel than this.

Review 105:wi-fi coverage and the quality of the breakfast and of the service in the restaurant

Review 106:The proximity to the interesting places and the kindness of the reception personnel

Review 107:WiFi was not always available in fast speed no parking available

Review 108:roof top terrace for breakfast air conditioned room big bathroom with tub good beds close to the city center attractions

Review 109:For the quality of the hotel the breakfast has a lot of faults. The service is dreadful with the staff not being very observant as to what needs to be refilled etc. The warmer was not on for the hot food so it was cold. Even when there was not many people in the room, I had to ask for hot water, for cold water, for teabags etc etc etc. Also, considering all the beautiful cheap fruit available in the markets, the dreadful choice and quality of fresh fruit available was unacceptable. I also was not happy to have to ask to have the air conditioning put on in my room and the controls did not allow us to keep it from freezing us. Additionally following breakfast on our last day, at 10:45 we had been locked out of our room although check out is 11:00. These kind of issues should not happen in a hotel that seems to be trying to attract business customers.

Review 110:The hotel was comfortable and quiet as well as being very clean. the staff acknowledge you as you go in and out of the building and the night security guard was very friendly considering we had to rouse his almost every night.

Review 111:The staff didnt have much information to give to tourists. TheWIfi didnt cover the entire room, we could only get Internet nextto the door.

Review 112:The room and the location

Review 113:Had to log in to the wifi every time you used the internet which was a bit frustrating. A real hair dryer would be welcome in 4 star hotel.

Review 114:Nice room with very comfortable bed. Very nice and helpful staff. Great breakfast. Wifi worked really well.

Review 115:The hotel contains impressive design features, but on a matter of personal taste, the decor in our room was on the dark side. There was a wide range of choice at breakfast, served in a pleasant manner, but the hot dishes (scrambled egg and bacon) appeared to have been cooked well in advance of anyone's breakfast. This is a common failing in international hotels, and given the extensive cold buffet was not significant.

Review 116:The hotel is a modern building with excellent facilities, set in a historic location, within walking distance of good local restaurants. It is very near to the terminus of three bus-routes that link up with bus-routes across the city and even to Monreale. We did not take an evening meal in the hotel, but breakfasts were very good and served on a splendid roof terrace. A staff member was exceedingly helpful in enabling my wife to recover a jacket that she had left on the bus from the airport. At the entrance was a small library of books on Sicily and novels that were available for guests to read. I don't know about parking facilities, since a car is not needed in Palermo (and is best avoided by drivers from outside Sicily).

Review 117:The staff was not very friendly and did not seem to want to help us or answer our questions about traveling through Palermo.

Review 118:Very modern and clean, nicely updated.

Review 119:Door did not isolate from the corridor noise and voices, but just a minor thing.

Review 120:All good, staff and facilities. Not the best area to go out in the evening.

Review 121:Constantly reconnecting to Internet.

Review 122:Reception staff knowledgable about the local tourist sites. Reception staff helped me find out about bus connections in Catania to get to next destination. Room comfortable, and good size, kept clean by house keeping staff. I was able to walk to all areas of interest . Wifi free. Breakfast normal Italian offering.

Review 123:The bed was extremely uncomfortable No tea/coffee making facilities in room - or none available anywhere after midnight

Review 124:Staff were friendly and helpful Garden terrace for relaxing

Review 125:We had booked 2 rooms for4 nights about 5 months in advance and when wearrived we were informed that they had to put us in a different hotelfor the first night due to a "technical problem" with therooms! This took time and was inconvenient and the hotel did nothingsubstantial to compensate us. Very aggravating. Also breakfast was notup to par for a 4star hotel. Do not recommend.

Review 126:I don't like the people very much..and it is not really a beautiful city.

Review 127:I like the ancient History of Palermo and the beautiful beach and Fish resaurants in Mondello.. Nearby!

Review 128:They were not expecting us-even though I booked a month before. The room had a problem with the electrics which at times felt unsafe. The room was at the front of he hotel which was noisy.

Review 129:Location, wellness centre
