Reviews for Samanea Beach Resort
Review 1:One little thing, that did not effect us was that there are not enough shadowed places on the beach.
Review 2:The staff especially in the Restaurant was very kind, helpul and nice and made our stay great. Breakfast real good. Dinner also. The place is very peaceful. We were there 6days and no complains at all
Review 3:Our bath did not have taps - yes, believe it or not. No matter what you wanted to order of the menu, nothing was available - have you ever, a 5 star lodge with hardly any food. Will not recommend this property at all.
Review 4:The grounds are beautiful and the staff friendly.
Review 5:Areas for improvement: 1. Communication between managers and reception staff is poor. I needed to organise transport in several occasions, but constantly found myself having to start from the beginning each time I spoke to someone different. With the language barrier, this caused a problem more than once. 2. People have a habit of forgetting things! eg tuktuk pick-ups to take me to the bus station, forgetting to service the room one day, food items from the restaurant. 3. The restaurant could be better. Items out of stock one day after another, things missing from an order, breakfast not really explained very well (I'm still unsure what exactly is included in the room rate!), quality variable. Maybe it's because much of their business is done at weekends? 4. Wifi is very unpredictable.
Review 6:Samanea is a beautiful hotel in an incredible setting. The grounds are immaculate and the gardens are perfectly kept. The pond is really lovely, and the swimming pool is excellent. The jetty and the boardwalk around the mangroves brings you closer to the sea and to nature. The bungalows are superb, with a separate lounge area and a nice indoor/outdoor bathroom. Not too many mosquitoes, which surprised me being close to so much natural water. Many guests are weekenders from Phnom Penh, so if you visit midweek you may even have the place to yourself. Similar hotels in many other countries/resorts could easily charge far more than the rates at Samanea and you wouldn't feel shortchanged, so, notwithstanding the things that could be improved on, Samanea gets 5 stars for being great value for money and having a very friendly bunch of staff always willing to help.
Review 7:Nothing!
Review 8:A beautiful resort. Fabulous gardens and salt water swimming pool. The Family vila we had was immaculate with superb beds and outside showers. Very friendly staff who go out of their way to help. Highly recommended for a very relaxing and comfortable stay.
Review 9:Poor maintanence service after we had an issue with the room lights. Affected our sleep for 2 nights before they changed our room.
Review 10:Tranquil environment, good restaurant staff, spacious clean rooms and bathroom was great.
Review 11:Tuk Tuk and taxis charge you more because they assume you stay in a fancy hotel but it is not Samanea resort's mistake
Review 12:nice staff really helpful and smiling. The owner is also really friendly view from the garden is wonderful Mangrove around the hotel is clean The place is really quite Compared to the other hotels where we stayed in Cambodia, this one has a really good value for money
Review 13:Great location on the water in a picturesque park-like setting next to a mangrove, beautiful big rooms, funky outdoor shower/bathtub. Perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh.
Review 14:The rooms aren't really bungalows, they share a wall so you can sometimes hear the neighbor. There were many mosquitoes and no mosquito net, it's worth bringing one with you. Limited vegetarian food options on the dinner menu. The beach is artificially made in between mangrove, so you can't really swim since the water is brown/murky, but you can play in the sand if you like.
Review 15:Beautiful room, delicious breakfast options, great views, really nice pool. A very close ride to "the heart of Kep."
Review 16:For me personally I didn't enjoy being in Kep. Too quit and hardly anything to do. Kep isn't really pleasing to my eye...
Review 17:The resort is really great if you just go for tropical relaxing and pampering as the staff is happy to attend you and the views and gardens are magnificent!
Review 18:1) Manager doesn't speak good English. 2) we came to celebrate our marriage anniversary but nobody cared. More than that when husband was trying to organize dinner for us they would say that we have to order for 5 people at least, then manager agreed, then in the morning of anniversary dinner he called and said no again. Then agreed on menu (pork for husband, crabs for me) and price but they served all dishes for both of us and of course changed price for much higher. Also we ordered cake which was very tasty but I guess couldn't cost 30$ but not a big deal. 3) too many insects. One morning huge worm was crawling up my chest... Anti mosquito thingy was used by stuff only at check-in day after that nothing but I haven't asked because I brought mine. But bugs and Mosquitos don't even care if u use anything, they just don't die. 4) quite far location from beach, restaurants. Gotta rent a bike (wouldn't recommend asking resort help u with renting, they add at least 3$ per day but don't mention it) or use tuktuk every time u wanna go out. 5) and the last for the best - rats were falling down the ceiling. At first I heard scratched on roof top and thought those are birds. Then husband was saying that somebody was constantly biting our fruits. As its really loud there and u can here a lot of birds, insects and animals there I wasn't surprised. But when in the middle of the night we weren't asleep and rat fell down on the coach... Beeee. Staff was just smiling in the morning. But last fifth night was the worst we woke up at 5 am because rat was running around and making sound rating stuff from trash bean. We were calling for staff, one after another were coming smiling including manager. Nobody commented it anyhow. But since we had whole day ride all the way to Siem Reap that day and we had such nervous couple nights I was really angry and tired.
Review 19:1) Staff is very nice, smily and hospitable. 2) great swimming pool. 3) outdoor shower area
Review 20:The only negative was that the beach area was man made and not really for swimming but there was a beach a short drive away & a great pool on site.
Review 21:Great location with superb villas and excellent staff. We had a discounted price so was also great value.
Review 22:They promised a fruit basket at arrival, but did not find it.
Review 23:This brand new hotel is one of the nicest I have seen so far here in Cambodia. The location is idyllic and the spacious garden, pool and beach are perfectly maintained. Staff was extremely helpful. Large clean rooms with a special private outdoor shower/bath.
Review 24:Bad wifi connection in the rooms.
Review 25:What a beautiful hotel. The villa we were in was very spacious and beautiful. Connecting doors with the room of the kids, so a big family villa. Pool in the garden was super and the pier to see the sunset a big bonus. The staff was extremely friendly and provided us all we needed and requested for.
Review 26:only issue was very slow wifi which made it difficult to access work emails.....which may have been a good thing :)
Review 27:beautiful grounds and lovely pool with sea view
Review 28:Long way from Kep town. Very little to do other than sit around the pool. Although rooms were well proportioned and very pleasant they do not have hot water.
Review 29:Great pool, rooms and general set up.
Review 30:Nothing - all good
Review 31:Samanea is a little gem with beautiful grounds and a wonderul staff; our villa was large, well appointed and the outdoor bath & shower were a nice touch; views on the water and from the pier are spectacular; breakfast was nice if not spectacular- we did not have the chance to try the restaurant for dinner
Review 32:We like the place very much and wanted to extend our stay for one more day, but it was confirmed fully booked. The place is very full of harmony; very relaxing! We like the bathroom the most. My son enjoy the swimming pool. The staff are super friendly; very nice people. We will definitely come back again.
Review 33:There is no real beach but there is some sand & lots of couches etc.
Review 34:Breakfast was amazing, such clean, light food with a lot of choice. The outdoor bath & shower were a wonderful experience. The pool was gorgeous as was the garden & pier over the water. The views are gorgeous & well located to walk to the sailing club or crab market or a quick taxi ride. It was a really relaxing time for us.
Review 35:There were a few power cuts when I was there which were a little annoying if you were in the shower at the time I wasn't able to pay with visa without them adding a 2.5% surcharge
Review 36:Room was spacious with a fantastic bathroom outside with open air shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful The food was excellent with breakfast served on the terrace looking at the sea
Review 37:some toileteries and tea and coffee were at times forgoten. water pressure was weak. ac was too small for room size. many mosquitos.
Review 38:the environs were very nice. the staff willing to help and a good breakfast. nice and quiet.
Review 39:Nothing. Everything was perfect. Would welcome a few more vegetarian options on the menu, but to be honest the food they do have is so delicious and the setting so relaxing it didn't really matter.
Review 40:Everything was wonderful about Samanea. The staff were very attentive and brought my fiance a complimentary slice of birthday cake as a surprise. The pool, the sunset on the pier, the room, the outdoor rain shower, the garden setting, resort is set back from the road so is very private. It is the most luxurious place we have stayed in Cambodia and was a perfect treat after two months of travelling. Cannot recommend Samanea enough.
Review 41:-Just want the resort add the size of bed bigger than now. - prepare much more breakfast type - in the garden use more light for brighter in night time.
Review 42:I like the sea view, pool and room
Review 43:The only thing I would fault is the dinner menu...possibly a vegetarian option, cough cough.
Review 44:Loved everything about this place, the surroundings are amazing, the photos do not do it justice, this really is a 5 star resort! The staff are great and so friendly, make sure you rent you rent a moto from the hotel for $8 a day, much easier then to get tuk tuk everyday. The villas and gardens are so well looked after, hats off to the gardeners.
Review 45:From the moment we arrived and were given our "welcome drink" and introduced to our personal butler, to the amazing views of the water from our villa, our experience at Samanea was amazing. The service was exceptional, the manager was extremely responsive and checked with us every day to ensure we were satisfied with the staff and property, and the staff went out of their way to make our stay memorable. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to experience Kep at its finest.
Review 46:Menu was lacking a number of choices, chef provides very tasty and fresh food but think for the cost pn. More choices and variation is essential. Some inconsistencies with room make up.....new staff need to be mentored more closely, I think just teething problems but a reduced rate or little extras should be offered until it is running to the highest standard the deserves.
Review 47:Location, villas, grounds, pool, beach area, restaurant and food quality very fresh and tasty. All in all a lovely experience.
Review 48:Nothing
Review 49:Loved everything about this place. The villas are beautifully decorated, the grounds are pretty, the pool is big and the beach area with jetty is absolutely beautiful. The staff were amazingly helpful. Food in the restaurant was really nice. Just a great place!
Review 50:This hotel is new and you can fell it as many small points need improvements : - bath ... No enough hot water to fill the wonderfull outdoor bath - coffee ... No real coffee machine ... Just a percolator - no continuous team to take care of the swiming pool or "beach" area ( empty glasses, dirty towel, ... ) Basically need more training and experience to change the place to the dream one that seems a realistic objective !!!
Review 51:Definitively this hotel have all to make it happen ... Beautifull rooms, magic garden and nice swiming pool. The local employees were really helpfull and friendly ... They have tried their best. Very good wifi.
Review 52:My friend Janet and I enjoyed every moment in this paradise. We had the best meal ever by the beach, the rooms were fabulous, The staff were so helpful, and the people that were staying at the samanea at the same time as Janet and I were so friendly. Thank you for looking after Janet and I. We had one of the best times and the best food I have tasted.
Review 53:This place was simply not finished. It appears the owners opened too soon. I don't want to go into great detail here but they really struggled to get the basics right. Really disappointing when travelling with small children for just a couple of days. Not at all what you expect for the price. Had we been told in advance that this was a soft opening (and a discount was on the table), we would not have been so disappointed. As it turned out, we had to negotiate for a discount with the management. No doubt this place will be top notch in six months' time once they get their act together. And we'll most likely be back.
Review 54:Stunning location. Beautifully landscaped. Comfortable bungalows.
Review 55:My adult daughter and I really enjoyed our relaxing stay at Samanea. The staff were wonderful and the villas beautiful. Would recommend Samanea to anyone who wishes to have a few relaxing days to finish off their holiday in Cambodia.
Review 56:Beautiful and cosy environment. The private outdoor bathtub with abundant warm water was a wonderful experience, the Slumberland mattress provided good night rest, and the Bose sound system was a great bonus. Staff are friendly and efficient, they walked the extra mile to bring guests extra comfort.
