Reviews for Angkor Chom Bungalows and Rooms
Review 1:The picture on the site is very deceiving. It looks like the 5 bungalows stand alone on that beautiful stretch of white sand but in fact they are surrounded by other bungalows/shacks and lots of trash too. After I booked a bungalow, the owner contacted me to say that it would actually be a room... While I appreciated his quick replies to my emails, it was hard to know what we would really get. Since it was over the new year's holiday I could not be picky though...Everything else was booked. It seems to me that the owner uses the bungalow picture on the booking site as his shop window to attract customers but doesn't give them what they had booked in the first place. So we ended up in a room in a place (on the water) that looked like a former warehouse. Other false advertising was the wifi. There is no wifi there... We stayed at 2 places on Koh Rong island and in both places we felt like we were the first tourists they had seen. Service was bad and extremely slow (for food it would take a minimum of 1 hour to get the first plate) and we were appalled by the amount of trash. I wish the Cambodian government would put more thought in the future of its country and invest in tourism like Thailand did. At this point, at least in Sokchan village, the locals are left to their own device and it is a jungle... All the tourists I met there were disappointed as Koh Rong had been "sold" to them as Thailand of 30 years ago... PS: I heard that the accommodations on the eastern part of the long white sandy beach are much better (because isolated). FYI we paid $25/room with 2 double beds at Angkor Chom
Review 2:I liked the fact that the owner didn't try to charge us for the last day when I told him that we were leaving a day earlier...
Review 3:Knew days in advance that they had sold our room, 6 people had to jam in one room, I'd told them two rooms booked twice via email, 3 hours to feed 6 people, half little kids,
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:Check in was terribly disorganised. We were shown our room and then later they asked us to pay. The owner seemed to forget who we were as he asked us again on four separate occasions to show our receipt as he wasn't sure if we had paid. Breakfast was not included which for the price we paid it should have been. That was if breakfast arrived at all after ordering. Again staff seemed to forget you were even there. The room was very basic. The bathroom had no sink or working toilet flush. There was no hot water. You can hear everything in the rooms beside you as the walls do not reach the ceiling.
Review 6:The beach itself is beautiful. It is secluded and quiet. There are some great restaurants opened by local Cambodians. Smoothies were great!
Review 7:The Bungalow is way to overprized for the standard you get. Its basic at all. The bathroom was not that much clean and nobody came to clean it after check-in during our 4nights stay. There was no sink at only a bucket of water to flush the toilet by hand. But the worse is the really bad cloake smell from a lake behind the street of the Bungalows. When the wind comes from there its very strong, so you automatically stop brearthing. The towels have to change! They to thin and not drying at all. Breakfast should be included for that price. The rubbish from the sea overflutes the beachside of the Bungalows. Should be cleaner!
Review 8:The wooden Bungalow was directly located at the beachside with a nice seabreeze and the waves of the ocean under us.We loved our balkony with the cosy hammhock on. The bed was quite good, just a bit small for two persons (but there is a second one in the room).
Review 9:The staff was very nice. We had a double room with a fan and shared bathroom. The fan ran all night, but was not needed, as it was not too hot at night. The rooms are right over the sea, you can hear the waves beneath you as you go to sleep. Sok San is very calm, there are like 5-7 guesthouses amd the beach and water are beautiful. When you reach Koh Rong's main pier you have to go to the Dive Center (next pier) and beyond the Dive Center the boats to Sok San are waiting. We didn't have to pay to go to Sok San, as we had already booked. To go back we payed 5$ per person. We stayed for 3 nights which was the perfect length.
Review 10:Some rubish (plastic bags and bottles)in the sea.
Review 11:Prompt reply to emails to sort out transfer from main pier to SokSan (1hour boat journey). Friendly and helpful family run setup
Review 12:When we arrived in koh rong nobody peacked up us... and we had to spent 30 dollars in 3 people to arrive in angkor chom. When we arrived in our bungalow we foubd empty bottles of someone else and ashtray full of sigarettes smoked. After a couple of days we payd a taxi boat to.koh rong main village go and go back but... when we had to go back there were no any boats. We waited for 2 hours calling the angkor chom different times and finally we had to pay an other boat... and we didn't have back the money... just half that we had to spend in the restaurant of angkor chom.
Review 13:The place is amazing... is the part of the island that is still wild... and you can arrive on the long beach that is amazing by walk...
Review 14:'Sea view' room had no window! Difficult to get to, only one boat per day to the beach ($5 each) at 12:00 - arrive any later and you have to hope you can find some other people to share the cost of a taxi boat ($25). Prison camp style building. Gap between roof and wall large enough for someone to easily climb through - insecure. Walls between rooms don't go to ceiling so you can hear everything from the neighboring rooms. VERY expensive for what it is - we found a beach hut on the seafront on the same beach for the same price.
Review 15:Electricity/fans ran all night
Review 16:Wifi rarely, if ever, worked. But honestly, I didn't really even mind that. It added a bit to the experience of being so remote.
Review 17:Location is by far the best on the island. The guy who runs it and his family are awesome. Bugalows are clean and right on the water. Food at their restaurant is cheap and delicious. Would recommend this place to anyone.
