Reviews for Epiphyte B & B
Review 1:This isn't the listing's fault, though they should probably include a warning - using GPS to get there sends you down a road that was closed in 1910, resulting in confusion and a much longer and trip getting there. The lack of internet/cell service will definitely matter to some people.
Review 2:Beautiful area. Lots of lovely plants and neat insects and amphibians and reptiles around! Amazing view of the mountains. The house is beautiful and open with lots of relaxed seating including a hammock. Excellent selection of teas, and the included fruit and toast and jam breakfast was wonderful - seasonal fruits, many new to us, and extremely delicious local jams.
Review 3:Nothing at all.
Review 4:We stayed here once before in 2003/04 and loved it; and we are so glad to have returned. The casual, friendly atmosphere of this is place is delightful, and you are on a wonderfully open situation: the 'open plan' dining room/sitting room' area, fronted by a porch or deck that fins the length of the building, looks across a vast expanse of land to Thorton Peak (the highest peak on QLD); and there are many lovely plantings in the grounds to look out on. In various other places we visited in the area, you are in rather gloomy surroundings among the trees--nice, in theory, but dark during the day and very buggy in the evenings. This is a great base for exploring the Daintree! You can cook for yourself here, by the way. I don't think the website makes that clear. There is not much room in the fridge for storing your own food; but it seems perfectly acceptable to use the stove or oven when you like; and needless to say, coffee and tea are available 24/7. Such a delightful, easy-going place!
Review 5:Everything! I felt immediately at home thanks to Matt, the owner and host who took his time to explain me where to go, what to see and to do, e.g. having a swim in the fresh water creek, boardwalks, beach, yummy icecream from the Daintree Icecream Company and so on. The tropical breakfast with all these yummy fruits and homemade jams was excellent, but don't worry there's vegemite and peanutbutter too. And the music evening at the Crossroads Cafe is an unforgettable experience. Btw: excellent location for all your excursions: Cape Trib is less than 30 minutes away( or less when you don't drive like a tourist as I do...)
Review 6:Large, comfortable rooms backing onto rainforest. Welcomed by extremely knowledgeable host, with good suggestions for activities in the area. Great selection of unusual tropical fruits (many grown in the surrounding tropical gardens) and jams for breakfast Surprising lack of biting insects means you can sleep with the windows open - essential when it's quite hot and humid.
Review 7:There's really no way of getting anywhere in the Daintree without a car. But I guess that has nothing to do with the accommodation itself, just the area.
Review 8:Matt was an amazing host. He could tell me everything about the area and had good advice. Also, even though I had a private room, he offered me a bed on the verandah so that I could sleep outside. This was the best bed I ever had. With the comfort of a mosquito net, I fell asleep surrounded by fireflies, and woke with the sunrise. Absolutely amazing.
Review 9:Mattress could be a little comfier, but perfectly fine for a few nights!
Review 10:Matt is a great host - so much local knowledge which he was very happy to share. We stayed in the cabin which has a great outdoor basic kitchen area. Room has great bush views. Would recommend. Breakfast with local indigenous fruits a great bonus.
Review 11:the only problem we had was we were asked not to use the fridge at our cottage, so we had to go over to the main house all the time.
Review 12:we loved the tropical fruit breakfast. The staff were lovely, very helpful.
Review 13:A beautiful spot - great base to explore the Daintree / Cape Trib region. They really made us feel welcome and introduced other guests with convo starters. It is a great experience to stay somewhere without wifi / phone / TV and on solar power to really detox from modern day addictions and enjoy your surroundings! Kept falling asleep to the sound of the rain and birds. You can check your phone when out and about if you must (Telstra coverage down the road). Was fantastic hearing the acoustic guitar echoing through the house and meeting different visitors. The different fruits at breakfast were fun to try and the local jams were my fave. The host is very willing to share knowledge both about the attractions of the area and 'local secrets' as well as letting me pick his brains about how he built the house and other Qs about solar power and living in the region. If you are doing a tour of the FNQ area save your reef trip for when you are up here and leave from Cape Trib - it is closer to the reef and less people :) Epiphyte can book it for you. We enjoyed our stay and it was the complete opposite to staying in a hotel, which is why we thought it was refreshing and great. Mozzies didn't bother us in the room, Room 1 had a ceiling fan and was fine sleeping temp on lowest setting.
Review 14:Nothing.
Review 15:Excellent location, I could define as the paradise. Matt is an excellent manager and also a experienced guide for the area, including good knowledge of local wildlife. He could give you a hand in your trip for sure. Breakfast: every morning we were surprised by a new tropical fruit to try.
Review 16:Gosh - trying hard but can't think of anything.
Review 17:We very nearly cancelled our stay at Epiphyte B&B thinking that we should have booked the town of Daintree not Cow Bay. Thank goodness we didn't! This is the true Daintree. We had 2 very special days there with Matt, Emma and the other guests. It felt like we were home after 4 weeks of travelling. Matt is a special host who has lived an interesting life that he is happy to share with his guests. Thanks Matt and Emma for the nicest stay on our holiday. Hope we get back again one day. PS - miss those fabulous fruit platters for breakfast.
Review 18:Cant think of a single thing!
Review 19:From arrival we felt really cared for by Matt and Emma. The setting is amazing and the house, including our room, was superb. The range of fruit offered for breakfast must be a world record! Matt is full of good local knowledge and generous to share it. This made our stay one to remember and recommend.
Review 20:Host matt made everyone feel very welcome and prepared a gorgeous breakfast. No TV or internet was great for a few days. House in a gorgeous setting and quiet and peaceful. Nice places to eat very close by.
Review 21:Epiphyte has a very peaceful rainforest location and outlook. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful open living area and deck for lounging, and the very friendly and attentive host. This congenial place suits all age ranges.
Review 22:if you are scared of creepy animals, it will be a bit of a challenge, since you will have to sleep with a open door and window, because of the heat. And there are no moscito nets in the room. also the location is a bit far from good restaurants. but you can cook in the kitchen.
Review 23:Matt is a really nice host, and the place is beautiful. And he made a wonderful breakfast every morning.
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:Incredible view, awesome tropical fruit breakfast, friendly and helpful management. Quiet, peaceful. Kitchen to cook and prepare meals. Connection to nature.
Review 26:The Mosquitos really got us down. There was no fly screening the windows or netting on the bed in our room and the sliding door didn't close all the way so there was no way to keep the mozzies away. It was advertised as a place you come to 'pamper yourself' so we were very surprised at this discomfort.
Review 27:Epiphyte has stunning views, a friendly and helpful owner/manager, and the cabin that we stayed in had a solid range of cooking facilities and a spacious ensuite with a good shower.
Review 28:The owner, Matt, is an excellent host and a fount of knowledge on the local area and its ecology. The property is very close to Cow Bay in a peaceful location within easy driving distance to cape tribulation and all its attractions. Relaxed atmosphere created by Matt with tea and coffee available throughout the day. Breakfast excel lent especially the huge dish of fresh fruit. With idyllic views and Matt's good company we would definitely stay here again but for longer.
Review 29:The property has a beautiful garden and a view of Thornton peak. The breakfast of cereal and fresh fruit was great as was the host's company and advice for exploring the local area.
Review 30:Matt was an amazing host. Super knowledgeable about the area and helped us find a lot of cool spots. He's a great person to hang out with and we enjoyed many cups of tea/coffee together over the course of our stay. The place itself is beautiful and I'd very much recommend staying!
Review 31:Beautiful B&B, very personal and friendly. The host knows everything there is to know about the area and shares the knowledge which makes the stay in Daintree even better. Absolutely amazing views of the garden and forest and mountain, great breakfast. Also a great experience for our kids.
Review 32:No aircon, but didn't need it anyway.
Review 33:The friendly welcome and awesome views of the nearby mountain range in the morning. Plenty of good food for breakfast.
Review 34:Very polite personal. The villa is the perfect place. All the junglesounds at night - great! Nature all around. Best accomodation of our whole Aussie trip.
Review 35:a good place to take in the simple things in life reading a book on the sofa enjoy a g and t as the sun goes down super hosts super spot and if you are lucky you see the big bird thanks mick and pauline
Review 36:No WiFi available for guests. Payment only in cash. ATM Some distance away. No fly screens to any windows, resulting in stuffy air. Owners have chosen not to do improvements.
Review 37:Great location and setting. Friendly manager couple. Nice breakfast.
Review 38:nothing
Review 39:Away from the busy crowds, peaceful, no TV/internet, loved the quiet, fresh air, could hear the wild life at night, breakfast was fresh fruit, cereal, toast, home made jam as well, what ever you felt like to kick start a day of sightseeing the Daintree, environmentally friendly too, conscientious hosts, and give you your own space, Loved IT !!
Review 40:nothing. Everything was so perfect and we were sad to leave :)
Review 41:everything. Especially to hear the birds singing in the morning and all the tranquility around. Super nice hosts. Beautiful breakfast.
Review 42:The breakfast served was very satisfactory however we thought a few little extras ie yogurt and some varieties of bread/toast would be a welcome addition.
Review 43:The helpfulness and thoughtfulness of the couple who manage the property
Review 44:Nothing .
Review 45:Brad and Cathy were really helpful, Anything to make my stay better. They know about the local area and are happy to share it. Fabulous breakfast.
Review 46:Our room was very basic, but adequate, lacked insect screens which could have been a problem - but wasn't. The separate cabin looked superb, well worth the few extra $.
Review 47:Our hosts were friendly and thoughtful; provided a good breakfast and ambience that encouraged leisurely morning conversations with the other guests, while looking over the superbly maintained gardens to the misty mountain. Host (sorry, forget his name now) even helped me to delete excess images from camera card, using his laptop. Gave useful tips for local meals.
Review 48:Could use more lighting at night inside cabin to see.
Review 49:We were very comfortable, wonderful hosts, loved the cassowaries waltzing through the yard each morning, things were very well thought out.
Review 50:Host was welcoming and informative, and gave us free access to the whole house. More like a 'house party' than a 'B&B'.
Review 51:Great place and had a ball our host was very helpful.
Review 52:Epiphyte is a home away from home, thanks Matt!!
Review 53:Gardens and surrounds Breakfast Matt the owner
Review 54:The host Chiara was amazing and so very helpful! And the location is absolutely stunning. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 56:Nothing at all!

Review 63:great location, very comfortable b and b, fresh fruits and breads for breakfast.
Review 64:Beautiful setting, fabulous gardens, fruit platter for breakfast.
Review 65:Noisy birds at 1.30 am, though I am a keen bird watcher!
Review 66:Tropical fruit breakfast and use of self contained cabin
Review 67:Location: nearby everything you would want to see and do in Daintree rainforest. Very personal touch Nice breafast. We liked the plate with fruits
Review 68:Bit short on comfort but had charm
Review 69:Great location and very friendly staff
Review 70:peaceful location
Review 71:Perfect location for a relaxing and quiet retreat while exploring the Daintree region. The relaxed atmosphere, charming property and friendliness of the hosts make you feel at home as soon as you arrive.
Review 72:Moist bedroom and bedding but difficult to cope with due to rainy season. No drying facilities for clothes or shoes.
Review 73:Breakfast is good. Host is friendly and very informative.
Review 74:Restrictions with use of electricity (solar power) and limits on use of generator, water restrictions due to storage tank size, dampness pervading everything due to the wet season which couldn't be helped. Access to bedroom 4's bathroom via outside balcony at night wasn't ideal in rainy season in the dark too.
Review 75:The views from verandah, the beautiful gardens, the ideas for activities that the host provided during our stay in the rainy season. The reading materials and comfortable verandah even in the rain. Epiphyte B&B bedrooms would be a lot more comfortable in the dry season. Getting the balance with Eco-tourism is difficult.
Review 76:Nothing!
Review 77:I loved my beautiful isolated cabin, so quiet apart from the wonderful night calls through the forest by the many animals and birds. It was so picturesque, green and rich with nature - just what I needed.
Review 78:Everything was wonderful.
Review 79:It was lovely to be welcomed so warmly by the delightful hosts. The wonderful mountain view from the main room and veranda was stunning and most relaxing. Our room was spacious and well appointed with its own deck if we wanted privacy.
Review 80:Limited options available for tea and non-ability to self cater unless you could secure the cottage.
Review 81:We liked the uniqueness of the accommodation, the lovely gardens, breakfast and hosts.
Review 82:Felt uncomfortable using the kitchen, if there was a shelf in the fridge, guests could use, that would be nice.
Review 83:Kathy and Brad, just lovely people. Breakfast delicious, room very comfortable.
Review 84:Nothing we didn't like - at first 'surprised' that cottage kitchen is semi 'open air' eg under the main roof and part of main cottage, but open on 3 sides.
Review 85:Host were SO friendly and welcoming and helpful and delightful. Breakfast is delicious and the view is amazing. Staying in the cottage it was GREAT to hear the rain falling on the tin roof. A white lipped tree frog came and visited us at the cottage.
Review 86:Rustic cottage, beautiful setting, terrific hosts. Great Daintree experience.
Review 87:management was very friendly and helpful. Stay there was like home away from home but with the beautiful surroundings of the forest.
Review 88:It is like living in a normal room except that it is in the middle of a rain forest. SOOOOOOO AMAZING!!
Review 89:Lovely view from the veranda.
Review 90:Get away from it all. Peaceful and quiet.
Review 91:A bit grotty and run down
Review 92:Friendly and helpful staff
