Reviews for Castello Di Velona

Review 1:The location and the quality of the food at the diner.

Review 2:Amazing location, but very bad servuce except the restaurant ( cooking and service excellent). Cleaness very poor when it was done!! The terrace of the suite was dirty, very dangerous and with almost no view in comparison to standard room. Nothing to hang towels in the bathroom. Very cheap furniture for the price. Impossible to get an ironfir 5 mn in the room. So disapointing, not at all at the level of the price !!!

Review 3:The "gourmet restaurant". The food took a long to be served. On arrival one of our parties food was cold the seabass. One dish was great the sole. Two dishes were inedible lamb with eucalyptus and piglet with timut peppercorns. The chef did not understand how to use the ingredients.

Review 4:The staff and view

Review 5:The remote location means that you need a car to get around. Don't rely on transfer services offered by the hotel -- way overpriced.

Review 6:Beautifully renovated historical hilltop castello. The staff are very forthcoming and helpful. The spa area incl outdoor pool is top notch.

Review 7:It's very far from luxury as service in total, so hotel itself. I can't say that it's clean (for ex. in our bathroom was mildew - not good surprise), pool wasn't clean and private pool at our terrace wasn't clean also, we prefer not use it after we saw it. it's unacceptable if hotel want to be simply good even not luxury. Room Service is under lowest expectation - firstly, you will try to order while nobody answer, but then you will finally wait at least hour even you ask for something simple as coffee. Most staff (except just few persons who were really nice) is not welcoming or helpful: first answer at any your question will be "no".

Review 8:The only reason to visit this place is location and views (wonderful magic sunsets). Castle looks very interesting from outside. But that's all.

Review 9:Looooved the how close it is to one of my favorite towns in Tuscany... Montalcino. Just a short drive from the town and your literally in this castle in the clouds. Beautiful!!

Review 10:Just nothing.

Review 11:Staff are perfect. The hotel is located on the hilltop offering spectacular views of Val d'Ocia. The sunset room is a must which offer a front garden of your own. The outdoor warm water swimming pool is also perfect. Don't want to leave the hotel. Very heartwarming service too.

Review 12:I would improve the web site, Velona Castel is much better on site. I would also improve the cusine, which is good but not excellent.

Review 13:The pool is amazing. The dramatic view on the valley. The Italian courtesy of the staff.

Review 14:Nothing

Review 15:Castello is amazing. Staff unbelievably accomodating..one staff member was kind enough to bring in her laptop charger so my daughter's computer could be used. The facility is drop dead gorgeous and if the weather is bad, there is no shortage of things to do on the premises...thermal pools, massages, wine tastings etc. We could not recommend it more highly.

Review 16:Absolutely beautiful design hotel set in the countryside. Loved the thermal bath in the room, although the smell for some could be too much to handle. Excellent breakfast and dinner!

Review 17:Once our room was not yet clean at 2.30 pm, but it was quickly fixed

Review 18:The warm pools and the spa are not to be missed; the dinner at the restaurant was very good, but extremely expensive. Nearby monastery S. Antimo is worth seeing and listening to the monks chants

Review 19:There was a certain component missing which made this property struggle to feel like a true five star hotel. Besides a spa and very small in-room dining menu printed on white paper, there was no literature in the room. No recommendations of wineries, restaurants, maps, or magazines. The linens felt a bit rustic and the bed was not the most comfortable but about what I expected. There is no bar in which to have a pre-dinner cocktail, you must either drink in your room, at the pool, or wait until the restaurant opens. Nonetheless, the restaurant allowed us to have a pre-dinner drink in their very small lounge area, even though they weren't yet open for business. The little patio outside our room was kind of pointless. It's only partially paved and the furniture was rusty and outdated. There were no cushions or table cloth. We would have liked to eat breakfast out there one morning but the ground was wet and when the entire area is grassy, it's not quite as comfortable as sitting on a paved patio.

Review 20:The service and the staff were superb and extremely helpful. The pool and lounge areas are gorgeous. The breakfast is lovely with lots of variety. The bathroom in our room was absolutely gorgeous (I'd like to replicate it in my own home).

Review 21:Hard to find something...

Review 22:The feel of authenticity, the beautiful modern outdoor / indoor pool perfect to relax anytime of the day overlooking the hills, very helpful staff (they upgraded us upon arrival and helped to find our way in the surroundings), nice breakfast facing the sunrise, nice room but a little small though, modern spa equipment,

Review 23:What's not to like!

Review 24:Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfasts and dinners fabulous. The Castello facilities and setting breath-taking. We did not want to leave!

Review 25:Booking of spa services were completely mixed up and cancelled. Lizards in bedroom. Unresponsive and entirely rude staff. Leaky roof in room. No information about available amenities on arrival to make it possible to enjoy the facilities. Terrible food and unhelpful restaurant staff. Very cold atmosphere. Lights turned off. Bars not staffed. A waste of money.

Review 26:Location is superb. Unfortunately not enjoyable because of other deficiencies.

Review 27:excellent location among wineyards with easy access to Montalcino, Siena and Firenza. Special thanks to Stefano, somelie for his interesting explanation of Brunello di Montalcino wines and always excellent wine recommendation.

Review 28:Our room was small, but that's because the hotel is in a renovated ancient castle so the spaces are a bit oddly shaped! Small windows. Internet slow, though I suspect that is a regional issue not unique to this hotel. There are mosquitos at dawn and dusk in summer so come prepared! The pool needed a cleaning. Room airconditioning somewhat underpowered. On balance, these were all minor issues and I would recommend this place.

Review 29:Unparalleled setting, amazing expansive views over the valley. Quick drive into Montalcino for Tuscan food or wine tastings. Helpful, courteous staff helped with all aspects of the trip including booking us wine tastings and recommending places to eat. Great pool and spa, wonderful food at the restaurant (the view from the restaurant patio is amazing!). I had no problem finding the hotel - it was signposted from Castelnuovo. Ample breakfast buffet.

Review 30:La location

Review 31:Spectacular setting! You need a car since its 15 K from Montalcino Staff was wonderful!

Review 32:Stunning location and luxurious facilities. Great restaurant and views.

Review 33:Small windows just like a real castle

Review 34:Breakfast Staff feels overwhelmed and overworked

Review 35:Location, overall quality

Review 36:Disappointing on the swimming pool

Review 37:View, dinner and environment

Review 38:That we left.

Review 39:everything!!!

Review 40:We did not have any bad experience at this hotel.

Review 41:Beautiful property and excellent service. We felt very special. Excellent restaurant as well.

Review 42:Location and pools are just amazing.

Review 43:Be ready to pay extra money for poor ironing service. Long reaction on requests when calling reception.

Review 44:Great location, great general manager.

Review 45:We liked everything, however, the breakfast should be more robust! Massages and spa/pool was excellent. The staff was absolutely great!

Review 46:very peaceful. Beautiful property.

Review 47:Very nice castle with good SPA and amazing view. Luxury dinner.

Review 48:fabulous surroundings and exquisite lodging

Review 49:amazing!!!

Review 50:young staff were a bit patronising

Review 51:the room and patio was lovely

Review 52:Excellent location south of Montalcino, staff is very kind and cooperative, great place for a short vacation.

Review 53:We loved every thing about this place especially the staff

Review 54:Lovely view frome the castle and pool. It was easy to drive to the wineries nearby. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 55:Pool area is stunning Spa facilities excellent Very good restaurant Views amazing Setting (historical castle) beautiful Helpful staff

Review 56:The pools were dirty, wifi never worked, far from shops/restaurants,too expensive treatments and restaurant, not good value for money.

Review 57:Amazing views, excellent staff always friendly and happy to help with anything, good breakfast.

Review 58:AC was shut of or did not work during our stay Wifi is really slow - because of this, we are unable to stay here again if this is not improved

Review 59:Location, hill top, did not use pool but looks great

Review 60:Wifi not so good In house restaurant is pricy and not so good

Review 61:We were at our honeymoon and enjoyed every minute. The staff is excellent, caring and helpful. The place is beautiful and the spa is great. Breakfast is wonderful and tasty. It is better to come during the summer

Review 62:No place to walk around the hotel. Dirty warm water in pools but no obvious thermal properties. Didn't do a very good job in restoration to a castle and everywhere smelled like fresh paint. Cool and windy inside and had to walk outside for the restaurant. At $1,000 per night for stay and food we expected a lot more out of the restaurant, no table clothes or decanters? Help had no idea of the proper way to serve. Bang for the buck stick to the Relais Chateau, though not perfect they have higher standards

Review 63:Beautiful views! Easy to find and way outside of town. If you want to hide this may be your place. The Dinner was exceptional!!!

Review 64:The gym….3 Machines do not constitute a gym..! So either knock them onthe head….or tell it how it is. (But that is / was a minor point)

Review 65:Two couples, fantastic location (bit of a dirt track to get there – butfun and you get to see rural Italy - and what a view) fantastic staff –very friendly and helpful, fantastic facilities (warm natural springs/ pools)…..so yes….we all really enjoyed our Easter break and would(will) return again. Ha yes….special mention for the breakfast time warmtart…..its to die FOR…!!!...still trying to take of the extra pounds puton during our stay.

Review 66:Slow bar service , dinner I imaginative and expensive . Meals by pool very expensive

Review 67:Great views , good spa facilities , very nice room , good choice for breakfast. Excellent reception staff

Review 68:very difficult to find the hotel, the given GPS coordinate was not correct or missing. Direction to the hotel must be improved. WiFi speed very slow.

Review 69:The architecture of the hotel, room interior decoration, panorama view of Montalcino, spa, swimming poool

Review 70:A bit cold pool water but staff worked on it and it was just great after.

Review 71:Location. Beautiful Tuscany just around you all day long. Amazing wine tours.

Review 72:The sign on the property was hard to find, we drove past it several times before we realised that it was the right place.

Review 73:Loved staying at Castella de Velona, best place we stayed at in Italy, breath taking views, very relaxing, staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 74:Driving directions were as shared previously...absent. Navigation systemw/GPS coord was my saving grace tho my Italian companion who joinedme got whoafully lost and of course, being male refused to stop and askfor directions (guess that's a universal gender trait :-).Thankfully, if you're going to be lost there is no better place forit to happen.

Review 75:Fairytale fantasy!! World class staff, suites, spa, cuisine, vino...andthe 360 views are absolutely spectacular!! Will most certainly return atthe earliest opportunity. In the meantime I'm encouraging all myfriends to plan their Castello di Valona getaway...truly the stuffdreams are made of ;-)

Review 76:Wireless internet were poor....

Review 77:Fantastic Castle, Comfortable rooms and luxurious SPA. Unbeatable 360 degree view over the most beautiful part of Tuscany.

Review 78:nothing, it was even better than I had hoped and imagined.

Review 79:very romantic, a luxurious blend of historical beauty and contemporary design in a clean, uncluttered resort experience. The staff are warm, friendly, and will do anything that you need. Montalcino is a lovely town, and the castle's setting is private and mystical, from the moment you start up the long winding drive to the top of the hill.

Review 80:Finding it with a GPSsystem was very frustrating. I recommend that the villa send out detailed directions at time of booking.

Review 81:This stay met our expectations. We would like to come back and stay for a few days so we can really enjoy the experience. Atmosphere felt like a luxury experience and we were sorry to leave so soon.

Review 82:I did not realize it was located so far out in the countryside. It was a drive to Montalcino. Restaurant was very expensive and had an odd menu, so we chose not eat there. In the evenings, there is not bar area to get a glass a wine or evening cocktail.

Review 83:The staff were very nice and the amentities were spectacular.

Review 84:Difficult o find, more detailed directions would have been useful ontheir website. Dining room at dinner lacked a little atmosphere.

Review 85:View, staff, rooms, spa, breakfast.

Review 86:I was sad to see that the hot tub was not functioning. Would have liked one of the small indoor pools to be a bit warmer.

Review 87:Castello Di Velona was a beautiful place. The hotel just opened two years ago and they have beautiful amenities as well as a knowledgeable and friendly staff. The spa area with the 'emotional shower' and sauna was great. Another nice feature was the outdoor pool with its many jets. The bathtub was fabulous.

Review 88:Lovely quiet location in a most beautiful area. Wonderful pool facilities and most helpful staff. Would be happy to go again.

Review 89:Need to improve air conditioner system.

Review 90:Excellent, All around

Review 91:Great hotel with nice views, service and facilities. The spa is great.
