Review 1：The smelly bathroom wastes which the owners fobbed off as being the sulphurous thermal spring water. Two points made this ludicrous - the tap water was certainly not spring fed and the bath and basin wastes had traps in them. 30 years of rotting hair waiting for a good dose of caustic soda more likely. Keeping the basin plug in and a shampoo bottle over the shower waste whilst out skiing reduced the odour to just bearable levels.
Review 2：The breakfasts and the proximity to a gondola station, albeit a steep uphill 500m walk on an icy road in ski boots each morning.

Review 4：Very conveniently located to a main gondola lift. The recommended ski-hire shop (Best Rental) is next to the gondola, gives discounts to guests, hires good equipment and are extremely helpful. The rooms are adequate, though a little small. The in-house set meals are good, but need to be ordered in advance. There is a modest a la carte option. Breakfasts are good. Good value for money. Staff are friendly and enough English is spoken to get by.
Review 5：One may find more sophisticated hotels. But cannot find a hotel more caring. I and my wife stayed in lodge Scole for three nights in February 2015. We love Zao and the members of Lodge Scole who made our journey to Japan worth remembering.
Review 6：Mao (owner) was great - on late arrival she made up some tasty toasties, great skiing, great saki, great lodge - we felt very welcomed by Mao and were told to use the lodge as if it was our own home - highly recommend this place ....
