Reviews for Stanley Hotel & Apartments

Review 1:The hotel was quite nice, but in the restaurant we waited for half an hour for someone to take an order, and left without being served even though we saw staff was taking orders from other tables. It is a place for locals apparently, not hotel guests.

Review 2:Nice, old-school building

Review 3:Cold flooring (tiled; portable electric heater did not work) and no free wifi (as it was too far from the main hotel building).

Review 4:Cozy cottage with garage. Log woods for the fireplace were provided which was helpful as it was very windy and cold in the evenings.

Review 5:Great location within walking distance of township. Studio cottage had spa, rocking recliners, comfortable bed & had retained original bakery ovens & fittings, which was lovely.

Review 6:As with most budget places the mattress and pillow could be improved on.

Review 7:Stanley is well worth a visit and the Stanley Hotel is well located in the heart of things. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient and it is also a great place for a meal.

Review 8:Not much, it was everything it said it was, shared bathroom, single beds

Review 9:Initially the staff were a bit weird, handed me the key without any direction as to where the room was, check out time etc. sleeping on a single bed was different! When we went down for dinner the staff were great, they were super busy but because we were guests they found a table for us & we enjoyed a meal.

Review 10:The location had wonderful sea views. The house was excellent, separate toilet and bathroom, laundry with a dryer, lovely garden. Lovely furniture . great verandah.

Review 11:Window didn't stay open unless held up by stick of wood, no aircon, beds no overly comfortable.

Review 12:Helpful staff, location right in town centre. Room was as described (with shared bath), clean bathroom.

Review 13:Bathroom very cramped tacky furniture which spoiled the look of what could have been a nice room small wardrobe filled with ironing board a d iron no room for clothes just general lack of attention to detail mortein stored next to wine glasses tea coffee and sugar shoved into a teacup room opened onto balcony where guests were smoking which wafted in no screen on balcony door food was good but totally overpriced as this was only place we found to eat I' m sorry it just wasn't our cup of tea

Review 14:Room and bathroom were clean bed was comfortable food in restaurant was good staff were lovely good location in Main Street and within short walk to beach

Review 15:The guidlines/map to finding the property could be improved especially when trying to find the property late at night.

Review 16:The stunningly beautiful location and value for money.

Review 17:Great place to stay. Fabulous meals in the bistro, but you do really need to book ahead. It gets very busy of an evening. Staff very helpful & friendly

Review 18:Liked that it was right in town, easy to walk anywhere. Nice and quiet even though our room was above the bar area. When we booked in we were recommended to book somewhere for dinner as it was a Saturday night and every place gets booked out, glad we did that.

Review 19:The stairs were very steep for carrying luggage

Review 20:Lovely facilities with a great viewHandy to have the bistro down stairs for dinner.Wonderful to walk across the road after dinner to watch the Penguins come ashore

Review 21:For the budget minded traveler the meals in the bistro were a bit expensive

Review 22:Very good value. Great staff. They were a bit bit quiet so upgraded me for free.

Review 23:The location in the centre of the main street is very convenient. My room was quite spacious and very clean and comfortable with a pleasant view. The bathroom was more than adequate for the three rooms that shared it and very clean. Altogether it was excellent value for money and it felt homely.

Review 24:This accommodation was booked because it said they had accessible accommodation. The only accessible thing about it was the back door. The toilet was too narrow for the wheelchair with no handles. The shower wasn't usable at all. (Step down no handle). It should not be advertised as accessible because it would have been impossible if I didn't have some mobility

Review 25:Stanley was lovely. Great history

Review 26:Just a suggestion. The cabin we had Ellie's on Church. The room could do with some pictures on the walls

Review 27:Great location within walk distance of cafes, sights etc. Lovely cabin !!!

Review 28:The thoughtfulness of staff the willingness of staff to assist and make our stay great the simple offer of seperate rooms for the third party at no additional cost rooms were great

Review 29:We booked a room for 3 adults with 3 beds. It would have been nice if the top bunk had been made. Bit of a pain to make that one.

Review 30:The staff were great. Very helpful & hospitable. Very well located so able to walk anywhere in town easily.

Review 31:Estowen House was the perfect place for our family to stay. Our 2 lively & loud kids had enough space to spread out, both inside and out, and plenty of interesting bits & pieces to explore. We loved the original furniture and memorabilia, the location is great, and it was clean, thoughtfully equipped and comfortable. If you want something a bit different to your average hotel room, plus the privacy of a house, I would definitely recommend Estowen House.

Review 32:There was a few times the electricity in the house went off partially. However, the hotel staff came to the house within 5-10 minutes and fixed the problem.

Review 33:The decoration and the fireplace!

Review 34:While Stanley was cold, the room was wonderfully warm. We enjoyed a 3-course meal in the dining room and everything was excellent (including the service).

Review 35:We are regular visitors to beautiful Stanley and love the tranquil ambience of this heritage village, such a pleasure each time we go there. There is certainly something that pulls you back to this place.

Review 36:The friendly service, comfortable accomodation and genorous meals of local food and wines made it a perfect base to visit the historical sites of Circular Head.

Review 37:Not a thing!

Review 38:An old bakery with a fantastic modern twist. Loved the big spa, lots of towels and lets not forget a big comfy bed! A decanter of port was a delightful surprise as well, Loved that the original old bakers oven and equipment had been tastefully blended into the decor.

Review 39:The food at the pub is terrible. As little and limited the menu was, the kitchen staff still couldn't put out a decent proper meal. Very disappointing Tasmania as you think your the produce capital, what a joke.

Review 40:The old ruins around the area and climbing the nut

Review 41:Atmosphere of a bygone era eminating from this historic town, friendly "natives" and such a lovely comfortable place to be. We keep coming back.

Review 42:Appeared no brekky offered and no bowls to make your own.

Review 43:Modern room and bathroom with doors out to verandah. Bistro was good value and lovely meals. Electric blankets and radiator.

Review 44:Impartial information on restaurants in town rather than promotion for hotel restaurant.

Review 45:Three bedrooms and two bathrooms for two couples. Has everything you would want in a house. Return visit to same property.

Review 46:Bedroom is directly located next to footpath. People walking past and the road noise was not a major concern to us but could be a problem for some potential customers

Review 47:We stayed at a single cottage that had an expansive bathroom, comfortable king bed, central to all attractions. We will return and recommend this facility.

Review 48:Shower a bit small and tricky but this isn't a serious matter at all.

Review 49:Pretty well everything, and the history of the house being available was excellent.

Review 50:wood burning fire, comfotable beds and furniture, views, 5 Min walk to main street and the little extras like soap powder for washing machine and a fresh bundle of tinder wood at door for fire on cold morning.

Review 51:Cottage directly under the Nut with views overlooking the harbour & beach. The cottage was very tastefully decorated & catered for all needs. The staff were very polite & helpful both in reception and in the dining room

Review 52:Stairs up to our room were very steep and narrow, but you get that in such old buildings.

Review 53:Lovely old pub restored in a clean understated modern way. Loved the shower and powder room. Bed very comfortable.

Review 54:A delightful cottage with magnificent view and excellent facilities. Great position, being near enough to the centre to walk in. Delicious meal at the pub and great staff who advised us to book our crayfish dinner to avoid disappointment! Great to be able to catch up on washing too. Off-street parking made it easy to unpack etc.

Review 55:leaving to come home

Review 56:We spent 4 days at Stanley the weather was great. We enjoyed walking around this beautiful town, the restaurants and cafe were all very enjoyable and the service was great. For a relaxing holiday I would throughly recommend Stanley.

Review 57:Love the fact that I could walk everywhere and the beautifully restored village and the lovely beaches. And of course don't forget the Nut. Food was great the Bistro at the Stanley Hotel has a great menu and everything was yummy.

Review 58:The rooms were basic and we only had a shared bathroom but everything was very clean. It was a good hotel for one night in Stanley. The rooms had a fridge and kettle and a sink. We liked it and would stay again.

Review 59:Nothing

Review 60:Central location Clean practical facilities Fantastic food at Hotel Complimentary Port - didn't use but nice touch Able to park motorbike undercover and off street

Review 61:Right on the main street, only a minute's walk away from the track to the Nut and a few minutes walk to the beachfront, this hotel is a great option for budget travellers wanting to spend time in the area. The food and wine choices in the restaurant were excellent; the shared shower facilities were clean; the staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 62:The "studio apartment" for 3 adults was tiny and claustrophobic. There was no table. The street front rooms were subject to disturbance from patrons using the hotel facilities. It was very warm and there was no fan to circulate air. But I guess you can't expect much for $90!

Review 63:Heritage nature of the hotel.

Review 64:The doona smelled like it needed a trip through the washing machine although the cover was clean.

Review 65:I stayed in a single room without an ensuite bathroom and although it was simply furnished, the room and shared bathroom was spotless, and perfectly comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 66:If wifi available for the rooms would be appreciated

Review 67:Good environment, old school style decoration but really good looking; bath room clean and neat, it's share bathroom but you won't dissapoint for it

Review 68:Did not like being put in Pen cottage, booked in March . Had no ocean view, looked at the back of Pol cottage!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Noisy neighbours, stayed up partying all night, no sleep. No breakfast, no Wi Fi.

Review 69:Comfotable lounge area with combustion fireplace, laundry a bonus.

Review 70:We couldn't stay longer!

Review 71:The views, great dinning , friendly locals, good beaches . Charismatic and charming town. Chair lift ride up to the top of the Knut .

Review 72:Shared bathroom but we knew about this when booking, and there was plenty of room.

Review 73:The charm of such a beautiful old building, and the great Bistro downstairs.

Review 74:A little more than a heartbeat from the lovely town centre of Stanley and the Nut, cafes and amenities. As travellers, washing machine and dryer were a real bonus. Loved the log fire as nights were a little chilly. Decor a little tired but clean and comfortable and suited our needs well.

Review 75:Could have done with a heated towel rail & a decent bath mat. The knives in the kitchen were very blunt. The fan in the toilet needs servicing as it was very loud. Would love to have seen some Cling Wrap available in the kitchen as there was only tin foil. The dish washing brush was yuck & passed its use by date.

Review 76:The location was perfect & walking distance to everything. Our room was perfect for our needs, a comfortable bed & pillows. The kitchen had the basics. The Spa bath was lovely! I loved the old bakery oven in the room, was really awesome to see.

Review 77:The room was a little breezy. Wind through the closed window and under the door.

Review 78:You couldn't ask for better value for a pub stay. Very clean and friendly. And just down stairs for an amazing meal at good pub prices.

Review 79:Advertised as having free internet access. This was only available if staying at the hotel itself, NOT at Pol & Pen. Single bed in second bedroom was Very uncomfortable.

Review 80:Location

Review 81:Need an extra bathroom for the 4 bedroom apartment.

Review 82:Many things in the cottage are like antiques. Really have the old cottage feeling. Enjoyed the fireplace. Close to the Nut.

Review 83:Ummmm.......???

Review 84:The period setting. Original & authentic, as if stepping back into a much nicer time yet with all the modern conveniences, a must for us to do again. If you have the opportunity to stay there, take it!

Review 85:Shared facilities, even though clean. Separate facilities would have been preferred. The pub downstairs was not very inviting to have dinner there.

Review 86:Good location. Nice and clean. Also quite. Walking distance to the Nut chair lift. Clean room. Shared facilities also clean.

Review 87:Pile of wood/building materials on balcony detracted slightly from ambience; thin walls - could hear other patrons. Not much you can do about that.

Review 88:Freshly renovated; own balcony; great shower; great food downstairs; great location; free and available parking; great views from room and bistro; great value for money.

Review 89:The laundry for all the cottages was attached to ours. The cleaners were there early doing the laundry and it woke us up. Not good when your on holidays.

Review 90:Really convenient location. Well laid out accom. Perfect for a family - 3 bedrooms, 2 with double beds & 1 with 2 singles, 2 bathrooms (one with spa).

Review 91:Interior steps could be difficult for older folks. Breakfast is available at places a few metres away but not at the hotel.

Review 92:Very clean and comfortable in an old building very nicely renovated with modern firings. Helpful staff.

Review 93:A bit worn and dated. Lounge needs replacing (holes in fake leather) and pillows in double room need replacing.

Review 94:Location, plenty of room, well equipped for families and people staying more than a night or two. Bed linen crisp and white. Delightful garden. Reception was friendly and efficient.

Review 95:I had a very nice and comfy room with en suite bathroom. It was spotless clean and has the nice view of the town center. The hotel is centrally located very close to the nut with the awesome view if the green hills and close to the beach. Such a lovely place to stay.

Review 96:The room was a little small & crowded for 2 suitcases, but otherwise very comfy.

Review 97:The hotel had great meals, and the locals in the bar where friendly and I asked them about travel and they offered some good advice. The close proximity to all the highlights in the town, and the use of the balcony from our room was delightful. Very quaint, cute place

Review 98:Nothing!

Review 99:We stayed in a queen room upstairs in the Hotel and it was great. Super comfy bed, large ensuite and the usual tea&coffee making facilities. Had a fantastic meal in the Bistro downstairs before hand. Definatly not "just" pub food!!! Cosy with the open fire.

Review 100:Food generally in Tasmania average, which was terribly disappointing

Review 101:Stanleys position , you would swear you were in a Cornwall ( England) , in a village like St. Ives .

Review 102:N/A.

Review 103:We thought Stanley itself and the surrounding countryside was beautiful. The Spa Cottage was excellent - spacious for a cottage and with very good finishes. The view from the front balcony was great.

Review 104:Nil to complain about.

Review 105:Electric blanket on bed, nice view, right in the heart of Stanley. Hotel full of character, but rooms you stay in are modernised nicely. Own ensuite bathroom which was very modern. Would stay here again no worries.

Review 106:No kitchen

Review 107:Price and cleanness

Review 108:Somewhere to sit outside. A garden table and chairs would improve the place

Review 109:Spacious period house with character

Review 110:Such a great place

Review 111:There wasn't anything

Review 112:Good fishing spot

Review 113:Loved it all.very comfy bed.

Review 114:The hospitality and friendliness of the locals, you wanna stay there for millions years. And the seafood, you won't get any fresher than that!

Review 115:Second best place in all Australia behind our home town of Esperance WA (The Centre Of The Universe)

Review 116:Several sets of narrow stairs to access room

Review 117:Downtown location

Review 118:Nice, quiet, comfy and unassuming. Would stay again,

Review 119:Good

Review 120:Welcoming service. Attentive staff. Great crayfish dinner!

Review 121:Location and value for money

Review 122:Lovely old home very well appointed and comfortable everything we needed was there
