Reviews for Le Shambala

Review 1:Friendly, professional staff who made me feel so welcome, especially as I was travelling alone, excellent food, peaceful, yet handy location for all village facities.

Review 2:WiFi was weak/inconsistent in room, but great in lounge bar/restaurant area. A shame there's not a few feet more beach in front of the property to make walking and swimming easier. Private pool needs frequent cleaning because of trees surrounding it. But these are minor.

Review 3:Loved the ambiance, private pool with our room, large wood-deck patio surrounded by 2m walls, glass wall between shower and patio. Staff were great. Restaurant was terrific. Three-minute walk to gourmet restaurants of Grand Case. No bugs to speak of. Hardly any road noise or other noise. (No problem with loud music that I'd read complaints about in other reviews--must have fixed that.)

Review 4:We were only meant to stay 2 nights but we loved it so much we stayed an extra night. This is an idyllic peace of tranquil paradise. We loved the privacy of the Tobago suite and the extremely comfy bed. Thankyou to all the 5 star staff. The location is amazing. And the restaurant food, wine and ambience is to be proud of.

Review 5:The bungalow with bedroom was not properly sealed; there are cracks in the window in toilet and gaps between wall and floor. I saw a large cockroach running out from under the wash-bag; I also got very badly bitten by mosquitoes at night. The plug-in mosquito repellent device is useless because of the open space plan of the bungalow and the lack of proper sealing. The head waiter is the `expert' about dealing with English speakers and has undue influence in the operation. The word TIPS in English (but not in French!!) was printed prominently on the bill in the restaurant and the head waiter volunteered a lecture in English explaining that the situation regarding gratuity is `just like' in the US. This is untrue: St Martin is completely under French jurisdiction, tips (15%) are automatically included in bills and people unfamiliar with Western Europe thus end up paying 30% tips. No other restaurant that I ever visited in St Martin attempts to elicit US style tips. The morning the head waiter replaced the lady normally serving breakfast, the service and the offerings were distinctly inferior. One does not need this kind of nonsense at these prices. There is no proper reception desk

Review 6:Beautiful property in beautiful location. Very nice, tasteful furnishing in rooms and in common areas Excellent swimming in sea steps away form bedrooms. Delightful staff, except for one (!). Excellent chef and sommelier; very sweet lady serving breakfast and funny, well-educated bar staff; nice, cultured owners. Delicious French breakfast (when served by Maria): pain au chocolat, brioche, omelette, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad.

Review 7:No beach, only rocks! The price is a bit expensive. The immediate vicinity is pretty run down, but similar to most of Gran Case.

Review 8:The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel location is near excellent restaurants, in addition to their own excellent restaurant situated overlooking the sea. The large rooms and large courtyard were very nice.

Review 9:Wouldn't stay again because of the loud music played in the bar area & speakers even in the street. We couldn't escape without being inside our room with doors closed.

Review 10:We loved the position & easy access to town. Bar & pool area really lovely

Review 11:Rushed checkin procedure. Host neglected to tell us about code needed to get inside property after staff left (6pm on a Monday). Left us locked out until another guest opened it for us. The room is lovely and unique but could use a screen door. No window so not possible to get fresh air unless sliding glass doors are open, allowing Mosquitos in.

Review 12:Comfortable bed with excellent pillows and linens. Great location near many good restaurants. Nespresso machine in room!

Review 13:All is perfect. The one of the best places in st maarten for those who is looking privacy and quite place. I would add some magazines for units and massage for booking.

Review 14:I liked all: the breakfast near the ocean observing the sunrise, privacy in the bungalow with private swimming pool, very clean and comfortable place, the stunning cristal clean sea water full if stars, torturges, stingrays, super for snorkeling. No waves. All gourmet restaurant are very close, but here as well is a very good cousine, friendly atmosphere and hospitality. Sure we will come here again and again. The best place in st maarten for quite and private staying

Review 15:One day the hotel owner wanted to come around 7pm to vacuum out the pool. It was a nice gesture but the privacy on the honeymoon was more important. especially when we didn't request it. But if that was the biggest issue, you can say things went very well.

Review 16:Great location and staff. Very friendly and the room was amazing. Nice to have a courtyard and private pool. Everything was new and clean.

Review 17:The room was very comfortable with a great shower. Location is very good and close to many fine restaurants.

Review 18:The food was delicious, the hotel room w/pool fantastic, and the staff treated us like family.

Review 19:The staff and the ambiance where superb- right on the beach, well maintained - only 5 suites

Review 20:I loved the private courtyards and the decor. The breakfasts were outstanding and you must try the la shambala cocktail!

Review 21:The wi-fi was not working.

Review 22:Our room was amazing and the area we were in had great food! Beautiful

Review 23:CRAZY beautiful place--the pic do not lie!
